Gary Dauberman
Gary Dauberman teams with Brightburn director David Yarovesky for horror film He Never Dies
Gary Dauberman
Gary Dauberman is staying busy. A couple of years ago, he signed a first-look deal with Sony’s Screen Gems for feature films. As part of that deal, he is expected to “create projects for himself while curating a slate featuring established and up-and-coming filmmakers.” So far, the deal has resulted in the video game adaptation Until Dawn, and other projects in development include the Joe Hill adaptation Ushers, an Urban Legend reboot, the “demonic horror on a plane” story Human Remains, and the video game adaptation The Medium. Now, Deadline reports that Dauberman and his production company Coin Operated are teaming with Brightburn director David Yarovesky to develop a horror movie called He Never Dies.

Yarovesky will be writing and directing the movie. Here’s the logline: In He Never Dies, the man they killed keeps coming back. Bigger. Stronger. Less human. No matter what they do… He. Never.

Gary Dauberman Developing Horror Film ‘He Never Dies’ From ‘Brightburn’ Director
Gary Dauberman
Gary Dauberman, through his Coin Operated banner, is teaming with Brightburn director David Yarovesky to develop a new horror movie, He Never Dies, Deadline reports today.

It appears the title is apt, as the logline reads: “The man they killed keeps coming back. Bigger. Stronger. Less human. No matter what they do…He. Never. Dies.”

Of course, no details have been revealed beyond that, but it feels safe to predict that it’ll be vastly different from He Never Died, which starred Henry Rollins as an immortal cannibal unable to die.

Both Dauberman and Yarovesky, who will write and direct the upcoming project, have been sticking closely to the genre space recently. Yarovesky most recently helmed Locked, a Sam Raimi-produced thriller starring Anthony Hopkins and Bill Skarsgård. He previously directed Netflix’s gateway horror fantasy movie Nightbooks.

Dauberman most recently produced Until Dawn, the feature adaptation of the beloved...

Image
Exclusive: Gary Dauberman’s Coin Operated is developing He Never Dies, a new horror film to be written by David Yarovesky, who will also direct.

In He Never Dies, the man they killed keeps coming back. Bigger. Stronger. Less human. No matter what they do…He. Never. Dies.

Gary Dauberman and Mia Maniscalco will produce for Coin Operated. The development project is their second announced in recent weeks, on the heels of Human Remains, a horror film from writer Zachary Donohue.

Known for his work in the genre space, Yarovesky most recently released Locked, an action thriller produced by Sam Raimi, which starred Anthony Hopkins and Bill Skarsgård. Prior to that directing directed Netflix’s Nightbooks, based on the YA book series from J.A. White, his other credits include Sony’s horror thriller Brightburn starring Elizabeth Banks, and his feature directorial debut, the 2014 cult horror hit The Hive.

The 15 Best Kids Movies On Netflix Right Now
Image
Netflix features no shortage of films -- in fact, /Film's Luke Y. Thompson put together a stellar compilation of the best sci-fi movies on Netflix that everyone should check out. Yet, its kids movies section might be its most underrated aspect, because to quote WWE superstar Sheamus, "It's banger after banger after banger." It's nonstop entertainment for the young and the young at heart.

So, how exactly did we pick the top 15 kids movies on Netflix right now? What was the methodology used? The approach was twofold. One, each movie needed to have a good-to-great critical score on Rotten Tomatoes. And two, a mix of personal preference and general audience reception toward the films played pivotal roles in the final selection. Of course, not everyone will agree on all the movies chosen for this list, but hey, this doesn't mean you can't enjoy what you enjoy. Love it all. Hate it all.

The 13 Best Netflix Original Horror Movies, Ranked
Image
It’s a cliché but it’s a cliché for a reason: Netflix puts out so many movies that most people never even hear about them. That sucks, because while they can’t all be bangers, a lot of those Netflix Originals deserve an audience. Especially their horror flicks, because believe it or not they’ve put out a lot of fantastic scary flicks for fans of all ages.

Let’s take a look at the best Netflix Original horror movies, shall we…?

Before his big, breakout hits “Longlegs” and “The Monkey,” Osgood Perkins lurked in Hollywood’s shadows, quietly gaining cinematic power with artsy, eerie sleepers like “I Am the Pretty Thing That Lives in the House.” Ruth Wilson (“Luther”) stars as a nurse hired to live in an old,...

Tobias Iaconis & Mikki Daughtry Tapped To Script Monarch Media’s ‘A Walk To Remember’ Reboot
Image
Exclusive: Mikki Daughtry & Tobias Iaconis (Five Feet Apart) have been set as the writers for A Walk to Remember, Monarch Media’s Nicholas Sparks reboot on which we were first to report in February.

A seminal coming-of-age romance, published in 1999, A Walk to Remember follows a rebellious high school senior who falls for a quiet, faith-driven girl after being forced to participate in a school play, discovering the transformative power of love, forgiveness and the beauty of living each day with purpose.

Warner Bros previously adapted the book in 2002, with leads Shane West and Mandy Moore breaking out off of their lead performances. The Adam Shankman pic remains one of the most popular in the modern rom-com canon, even if it made less than $48 million in theaters.

Steve Barnett, Alan Powell and Vicky Patel are producing the reboot through Monarch Media, along with the original film’s producers Denise Di Novi and Hunt Lowry,...

Video Interview: Locked Director David Yarovesky Discusses Working with Bill Skarsgård and Anthony Hopkins
Image
He transported us to a deadly summer camp in The Hive, followed a killer superhero in Brightburn, introduced us to a wicked witch in Nightbooks, and now director David Yarovesky is taking viewers on a deadly ride in a luxury SUV that is not what it seems in the new film Locked (a remake of the 2019 Argentinian movie 4x4).

Produced by Sam Raimi and starring Bill Skarsgård and Anthony Hopkins, Locked is a claustrophobic thriller that packs an emotional wallop, and with the film now in theaters via The Avenue, Daily Dead had the great pleasure of talking with David about the making of Locked, including the film's ambitious set design that allowed them to pull the SUV apart and put it back together like a puzzle, as well as the joys of working with Bill Skarsgård and Anthony Hopkins to showcase their amazing performances as their characters go up...

Locked Review: The Bill Skarsgard Trapped In A Car Movie Is Weirdly Relatable Right Now
Image
Before my screening of "Locked," director David Yarovesky made a surprise appearance to thank the press and the special guests in attendance, as this would be his first time watching the movie with a crowd outside of friends and colleagues. "When I started making this movie, I cannot tell you how many people said 'Oh cool, that's totally a streaming movie,' [...] so it's surreal because when you walk into an AMC and see it up on the screen like this, you don't know that it's a tiny indie movie." And he's right. "Locked" is the type of indie thriller that used to be a movie theater's bread and butter — low-budget/high-return seat-fillers like Kurt Russell's "Breakdown" or the Jeff Bridges and Tommy Lee Jones vehicle, "Blown Away" — that are now immediately dumped onto a streamer and lost to the void of algorithms. It's said often in the wake...

Image
Quick LinksWho Was Krysten Ritter In Breaking Bad?Krysten Ritter Is Not In Invincible Season 3

The following contains spoilers for Invincible Season 3, Episode 6, "All I Can Say is I'm Sorry," now streaming on Prime Video.

Invincible Season 3 has revealed one of its most tragic stories with Aaron Paul's Scott Duvall. He lost members of his family to the war from Season 1 between Mark Grayson and Nolan/Omni-Man. That brawl wrecked Chicago, leading to collateral damage and many casualties. It motivated Scott over the years to use his job at the Global Defense Agency to seek power and revenge.

In Season 3, Episode 6, "All I Can Say is I'm Sorry," viewers see Paul's rage unfurling in an unfettered manner. The Exorcist: Deceiver is being redeveloped, so not even Jason Blum knows what it will be yet
Image
Universal Pictures and Peacock forked over an amount somewhere in the range of $400 million to acquire the rights to distribute a trilogy of sequels to the 1973 classic The Exorcist, which we’re going to another collaboration between Blumhouse Productions and directed David Gordon Green (who recently delivered a trilogy of Halloween sequels), they were definitely expecting the first entry in the new trilogy to go over better with audiences than The Exorcist: Believer did when it was released last October. (You can read our 4/10 review Here.) The box office numbers were okay, the movie pulled in $137 million on a $30 million budget, but Universal was hoping for a lot better than “okay,” and the reactions were largely negative. Soon after the release of Believer, we heard that Universal and Blumhouse still intended to carry out the trilogy, but the follow-ups would be reworked. While speaking to The Direct this week, producer...

Director David Gordon Green crafted the story for The Exorcist: Believer with Danny McBride (who wrote all three of his recent Halloween sequels with him) and their Halloween Kills co-writer Scott Teems, then wrote the screenplay with Peter Sattler (Broken Diamonds). The Exorcist: Believer gets a PVOD release tomorrow
Image
The Exorcist: Believer (our review can be read at This Link), the latest entry in the Exorcist franchise, didn’t go over well with critics or the general audience… which pretty much makes it a typical Exorcist movie, because none of these movies – other than the original The Exorcist and Exorcist III – are very popular, even among the horror crowd. It has managed to pull it more than $107 million at the global box office since being released earlier this month – and now it has been announced that it’s going to be reaching PVOD tomorrow, October 24th!

Bartosz Walaszek in Egzorcysta (2017)
There’s a new Exorcist movie in theatres now, The Exorcist: Believer (read our review Here), and for the first time in the franchise Ellen Burstyn reprises the role of Chris MacNeil, the character she played in the 1973 classic The Exorcist. Her presence has been a major selling point in the marketing of this movie – but there’s another returning cast member who makes a brief appearance in the film. We heard months ago that Linda Blair (who was also in Exorcist II: The Heretic) would be showing up in The Exorcist: Believer, and during an interview with People magazine director David Gordon Green talked about reuniting Burstyn and Blair for “a beautiful moment”.

Green told People, “It was just a really special moment to be a part of that reunion, to be a part of that legacy, the connection that’s so monumental that the two of those performers have.

Olivia O'Neill and Lidya Jewett in L'Exorciste : Dévotion (2023)
The Exorcist: Believer pulls in $2.85 million from Thursday previews
Olivia O'Neill and Lidya Jewett in L'Exorciste : Dévotion (2023)
There’s a new Exorcist movie in theatres now. The Exorcist: Believer (read our review Here) is tracking to have the highest opening weekend of the entire franchise and might end up pulling in an amount somewhere in the range of 30 to 36 million. Its theatrical run got started last night, and according to The Hollywood Reporter it drew in $2.85 million from those Thursday preview screenings.

Most of the film’s reviews are negative – it currently has a 20% score on Rotten Tomatoes and JoBlo’s own Chris Bumbray described it as “abysmal” – so we’ll have to wait and see if that’s going to have any impact on the opening weekend box office.

Max von Sydow in L'Exorciste (1973)
‘The Exorcist: Believer’ Review — Follow-up to Trailblazing Horror Film Falls Short
Max von Sydow in L'Exorciste (1973)
You might think it would be difficult, after fifty years, to introduce something new to a motion picture series as long and as storied as “The Exorcist.” Ever since William Friedkin’s trailblazing original horror drama — as frightening as it was insightful about the fragile relevance of religion in an increasingly secular world — filmmakers as varied as John Boorman, William Peter Blatty, Renny Harlin and Paul Schrader have been stretching the concept of demonic possession as far as it they could take it. Their films have been, not always at the same time, fiercely intelligent, deeply strange, hypnotically inept, genuinely terrifying, profoundly embarrassing, and/or uncomfortably insightful.

David Gordon Green’s “The Exorcist: Believer” has now entered the conversation, and to its credit — sort of — it does have one thing we’ve never seen in these movies before: mediocrity, and lots of it. The new film is competently dramatized and occasionally quite startling,...

The Exorcist: Believer heading for franchise record opening weekend
Image
We’ve seen what director David Gordon Green and Blumhouse Productions could do with the Halloween franchise, three times over. Now we’re going to see what they can do with the Exorcist franchise when The Exorcist: Believer reaches theatres this Friday, October 6th. This movie is meant to be the start of a new trilogy of Exorcist sequels, and Universal Pictures and Peacock forked over an amount somewhere in the range of $400 million to acquire the rights to distribute this trilogy… so they’re probably very glad to hear that the film is tracking to have a franchise record-breaking opening weekend.

Deadline reports that The Exorcist: Believer, which will be playing on 3600 screens, is expected to have a domestic opening weekend in the 30 to 36 million range. Currently, the R-rated reboot/sequel is trending demo-wise like The Nun 2, which saw a $32.6M opening, meaning it’s great with the 18-34 demographic,...

The House With A Clock In Its Walls Ending Explained
Image
The ending of "The House With A Clock In Its Walls" offers a surprising message about grief, loss, and growing up, making it more uplifting and positive than the director's previous gory horror movies. Lewis' Magic 8-Ball breaking the clock symbolizes him letting go of his grief and attachment to his parents, ultimately saving everyone from the clock's doomsday countdown. The villainous characters, Selena and Isaac, created the clock out of trauma and a desire to rewrite reality, while Lewis learns to accept his past and move on, freeing himself from tragedy.

While The House With A Clock In Its Walls might be a fun supernatural horror comedy, the movie’s ending offers a surprisingly moving message about grief, loss, and growing up. Eli Roth’s filmography is uneven, to say the least. Roth made his debut with 2002’s grisly Cabin Fever, a backwoods chiller that mixed body horror with...

Jason Blum admits he’s scared “to death” of competing with Taylor Swift at the box office
Image
After producing films like The Black Phone, The Invisible Man, and Jordan Peele’s Us, you’d think it would take a lot to scare Jason Blum. As it turns out, what frightens Blum is a megastar with a cult-like fan following. I’m talking about Pennsylvania-born entertainer Taylor Swift! The blonde bombshell’s Eras Tour film is shaking it off in theaters this October, and the Blumhouse founder’s latest fright fest, The Exorcist: Believer, is getting out of her way.

“The one thing that scares me to death is Taylor Swift,” Blum joked with Entertainment Weekly about competing with Swift’s concert film for box office supremacy. Initially, Blum wanted to unleash The Exorcist: Believer on October 13, a Friday well-suited for the spookiest month of the year. However, when fans began sharing the hashtag #Exorswift on Twitter, Blum considered a release date change for the latest chapter in the Exorcist saga.

The Exorcist: Believer featurette says the filmmakers wanted to honor the original film
Image
Universal Pictures is going so hard with their marketing of the October 6th release of director David Gordon Green and Blumhouse Productions‘ The Exorcist: Believer, it almost seems like the saying “another day, another Exorcist promo” would be fitting. It makes sense, since Universal and Peacock forked over an amount somewhere in the range of $400 million to acquire the rights to distribute a new trilogy of Exorcist sequels that begins with Believer. Today they’ve unveiled a featurette that’s called “Legacy” and looks to let us know that the filmmakers were seeking to honor the 1973 classic The Exorcist with this new sequel. You can check it out in the embed above.

The Exorcist: Believer featurette discusses spirituality and the father and daughter at the center of the story
Image
The Universal Pictures marketing machine is working at full power to make sure everyone’s aware that there’s a new Exorcist movie reaching theatres next month – which makes sense, since Universal and Peacock forked over an amount somewhere in the range of $400 million to acquire the rights to distribute a new trilogy of Exorcist sequels that are coming from director David Gordon Green and Blumhouse Productions (the same creative team that was behind the recent trilogy of Halloween sequels). The Exorcist: Believer is set to be released on October 6th, and the latest piece of promotion is a featurette that discusses spirituality and the father and daughter characters that are at the center of the film’s story. You can check it out in the embed above.

Yesterday, a new trailer for director David Gordon Green‘s The Exorcist: Believer arrived online – and now, Fandango has unveiled a video in which Green spends more than nine minutes going over the moments featured in that trailer. His trailer breakdown can be found at the bottom of this article.

Universal Pictures had been playing to give The Exorcist: Believer a theatrical release on October 13th, but last week they moved it up to October 6th so they could avoid opening weekend competition from the Taylor Swift concert film Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour on its original release date.

The Exorcist: Believer gets a new trailer one month ahead of its theatrical release

The Exorcist: Believer release moves to an earlier date, avoiding Taylor Swift competition
Image
13 is an important number to musician Taylor Swift. She considers it to be her lucky number. As she has said, “I was born on the 13th, I turned 13 on Friday the 13th, my first album went gold in 13 weeks. Also, my first song that ever went number 1, it had a 13 second intro, I didn’t even do that on purpose!” She had more examples to give, but the point is – when it was announced this morning that her concert film Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour is going to reach theatres nationwide on Friday, October 13th, it totally made sense. And now, in response to that announcement, Universal Pictures, Blumhouse Productions, and Morgan Creek Entertainment have decided to move their film The Exorcist: Believer forward one week from its October 13th release date to avoid having to compete with Taylor Swift on its opening weeked. The Exorcist: Believer will now reach theatres on October 6th.

Director David Gordon Green recently finished working on a trilogy of Halloween sequels for Blumhouse Productions that consisted of Halloween (2018), Halloween Kills, and Halloween Ends. Now he and Blumhouse are working on a trilogy of sequels to the 1973 classic The Exorcist (watch it Here) that begins with The Exorcist: Believer, which is scheduled to reach theatres on October 13th. Today, Empire has unveiled a new image from The Exorcist: Believer, which can be found at the bottom of this article, while also sharing a quote where Green talks about preserving the dramatic integrity of The Exorcist.

Green told Empire, “The Halloween movies are in the slasher genre. They’re a place to play, and maybe have some campy fun. But this one was more researched and a bit academic. The narrative we were sculpting, and the relationships, were more dramatic. It’s a very different approach. … We’re talking about the horror genre,...

Jason Blum says The Exorcist: Believer is scary, Insidious / Sinister crossover on hold
Image
Blumhouse Productions founder Jason Blum is currently doing the press rounds for Insidious: The Red Door, the fifth entry in the company’s supernatural horror franchise, which is set to reach theatres on July 7th – and during an interview with CinePOP, a couple other upcoming Blumhouse projects were mentioned. Blum had positive things to say about one of those projects, The Exorcist: Believer, but wasn’t so positive about a crossover between the Insidious and Sinister franchises, which is something he has discussed in the past.

First, Blum confirmed that The Exorcist: Believer is sticking with its October 13th release date. He told CinePOP the movie is “good and its really scary.”
