    Yes, the film is based on Thomas Mann's novel "Die Buddenbrooks", which was published in 1901. In 1929, Mann received for it the Nobel prize of literature.



    No, although Thomas Mann used members of his own family as models for the characters in his novel "Die Buddenbrooks". The house in Lübeck that is shown in the film as the Buddenbrook home was actually the home of the Mann family, now a museum dedicated to the life and works of Thomas Mann and his family, among them the writers Heinrich Mann (his brother) and Klaus Mann (his son) and historian Golo Mann (another son). The museum is called "Buddenbrook-Haus".
