K-Pop legend BTS may be on hiatus but fans are decidedly not. Concert film BTS: Yet To Come hit no. 5 at the North American Box office this weekend with 5.1 million on 1,100+ screens, for a cume topping 7.8 million from the first showing Feb. 1.
The group announced last year it was planning to take a break. In October, after their one-off live concert to support the bid by Busan, Korea’s second biggest city, for the World Expo 2030, BTS said its seven members were planning to fulfill the Korean government’s mandatory military service and reconvene as a group in 2025. That concert footage has been cut, re-edited and remixed for the big screen.

BTS’ fourth theatrical film will, in fact, go to theaters, the group announced Thursday, notwithstanding uncertainty about how many of the world’s cinemas will be reopened by the initial release date. “Break the Silence: The Movie” is scheduled to hit more than 70 countries beginning Sept. 10, with a rollout in an additional 40-plus regions Sept. 24.
A list of which regions are expected to have “Break the Silence” on which date has gone up at www.btsincinemas.com, with the announcement inevitably cautioning that “dates vary per territory and (are) subject to change based on the status of local cinema re-openings.”
The U.S., Canada, Mexico, Brazil, India and over 40 countries in all are listed for the later release date on Sept. 24. The list of territories getting the new film earlier, on Sept. 10, is much longer — more than 70 in all — and includes Korea, the U.K., Japan, Spain, Russia, Italy, France,...

South Korean super-group Bts took over New York City’s legendary Grand Central Terminal for a spectacularly choreographed performance of their new hit single “On” that aired Monday night on “The Tonight Show With Jimmy Fallon.”
Bts also took over the entire episode of “Tonight,” riding on the NYC subway with Fallon — who delivered his opening monologue on a moving subway car.
The band, who are promoting their new “Map of the Soul: 7” album, recalled their first public performance at a showcase with about 300 people in attendance.

At a time when leaders spout lies and cries of “fake news” put reputable media outlets in doubt, audiences showed an astonishing appetite for nonfiction filmmaking. This year, more than 15 documentaries crossed the $1 million mark in theaters, ranging from high-profile concert films (such as Bruce Springsteen’s “Western Stars” and “Bring the Soul: The Movie”) to powerful human interest stories (“Maiden” and “The Biggest Little Farm”). Revolutionary “The Lord of the Rings” director Peter Jackson pushed the boundaries of the medium yet again, bringing fresh dimension to century-old World War I footage in his 3D doc “They Shall Not Grow Old”, while high-frame-rate eco doc “Aquarela” changed the way we look at water. All told, it was an incredibly strong year for documentaries, amid which Variety film critics Peter Debruge and Owen Gleiberman singled out these 10 as their favorites.

Korean pop superstars Bts will be taking what’s being termed an “official and extended period of rest and relaxation,” according to a Twitter post by its entertainment company.
The K-pop ensemble ends its run today at the Lotte Duty Free Family Concert in South Korea. It is the group’s first break since its 2013 debut. The leave of absence was announced by Big Hit Entertainment, the South Korean entertainment company behind the group’s worldwide success.
“This period of rest will be an opportunity for the members of Bts, who have relentlessly driven themselves towards their goal since their debut, to recharge and prepare to present themselves anew as musicians and creators,” said the Twitter statement. “This will also provide them with a chance to enjoy the ordinary lives of young people in their 20s, albeit briefly.”

On paper, Warner Bros./New Line’s “The Kitchen” seemed to have a lot going for it, especially with box office draws Melissa McCarthy and Tiffany Haddish on board. But after poor reviews, Andrea Berloff’s directorial debut is flopping hard at the box office, grossing only $5.5 million from 2,765 screens in its opening this weekend.
Heading into the weekend, analysts who spoke to TheWrap said that an opening of around $10 million was expected. While far from a strong opening, it was at least projected to outperform Fox’s “The Art of Racing in the Rain,” which opened this weekend to just $8.1 million.

Summer is coming to a close, and most of the major Hollywood releases have already come and gone. Hobbs & Shaw hit big last weekend, and managed to stay in the number one spot for its second straight weekend in a row. This comes despite facing off with six new movies, all in wide release. Of those films debuting at the box office, it was Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark that brought in the biggest audience.
It was said early on that while Hobbs & Shaw wouldn't make nearly as much as recent installments of the Fast and Furious franchise on its opening weekend, it would have strong box office legs as August played into September. That is proving true, with the spin-off experiencing a decent drop of just -51%, bringing in an estimated $25.4 million for its second weekend in theaters. Despite plenty of new nationwide offerings, Universal’s blockbuster “Hobbs & Shaw” pulled ahead of the competition to maintain its reign at the domestic box office.
The “Fast & Furious” spinoff — starring Dwayne Johnson and Jason Statham — collected $25.4 million during its second weekend of release. Those ticket sales mark a 58% decline from its inaugural outing, on par with past franchise entries. After nine days in theaters, the tentpole has earned $108 million in North America and $224 million overseas.
Though “Hobbs & Shaw” retained the box office crown, CBS Films, eOne and Lionsgate’s “Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark” came within striking distance, debuting at No. 2 with a strong $20.8 million from 3,135 theaters. The PG-13 thriller, adapted from the popular children’s horror book series, was directed by Andre Ovredal and produced by Guillermo del Toro. “Scary Stories” tied 2012’s “The Woman in Black” as CBS Film’s biggest opening to date.

It wasn't as close a race at the top of the weekend box office as we thought it might be heading into the weekend as Universal's Hobbs & Shaw held on much better than expected and easily retained the #1 spot for a second week in a row. As for the weekend's crowd of six new wide releases, CBS Films, eOne and Lionsgate's Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark led the way with nearly $21 million, followed by a decent performance from Paramount's Dora and the Lost City of Gold while Fathom and Trafalgar's release of Bring the Soul: The Movie appears to have eked its way into the top ten. Leading the weekend was Hobbs & Shaw for the second weekend in a row. The film held on quite well in its second weekend, dipping just -51% for an estimated $25.4 million sophomore frame and a domestic cume that now stands at $108.5 million.

To the excitement of many, many Bts fans, the trailer for the boyband’s upcoming concert film “Bring the Soul: The Movie” is officially here.
Making its worldwide premiere Aug. 7, the film follows the wildly popular South Korean group during the European leg of their “Love Yourself” tour. Bts will be back on the big screen this summer. The Korean pop group announced today that their latest feature film, “Bring the Soul: The Movie,” will have a global release on August 7. It arrives just six and a half months after the septet’s last film release, “Love Yourself in Seoul.”
“Bring the Soul” is expected to be similar in theme to 2018’s “Burn the Stage: The Movie,” which was a mixture of Bts’ live performances, interviews and candid footage of the septet being tourists. This latest film focuses on the band’s final days of their “Love Yourself” tour in Europe. The filmmakers promise that the group — made up of members Rm, Jin, Suga, J-Hope, Jimin, V and Jungkook — will share never-before-heard anecdotes.
“Trafalgar Releasing is thrilled to collaborate with Big Hit Entertainment again for ‘Bring the Soul: The Movie,’” Trafalgar Releasing CEO Marc Allenby said in a statement.
