When Russo Brothers Almost Walked Out Of Marvel’s Captain America: Civil War & Said “We’re Not Interested In Continuing As Directors”
Image
When Russo Brothers Almost Quit On Captain America: Civil War (Photo Credit –Instagram/IMDb)

Captain America: Civil War beautifully set the stage in a way for the Avengers: Infinity War. When Tony Stark reveals to Bruce Banner that the Avengers have broken up, Bruce innocently questions him, “Like the Beetles?” It generated a lot of laughs in the theatres, but that might not have been possible if Marvel’s Creative Committee stopped the Russo brothers from pitting Tony and Steve Rogers against each other in the 2016 movie.

Russo Brothers’ Team Cap vs Team Iron Man Idea Was Initially Rejected

Civil War was directed by the director sibling duo Joe Russo and Anthony Russo and featured most of the Avengers. However, Thor and Hulk were not part of the film. It featured Robert Downey Jr as Iron Man, aka Tony Stark, Chris Evans as Steve Rogers, aka Captain America, Jeremy Renner as Hawkeye,...

Alien vs. Captain America comic book is set during World War II
Image
When Disney acquired 20th Century Fox a few years back, the comic book rights to Fox franchises like Predator and Alien ended up in the hands of Marvel Comics – and given the fact that Predators and Aliens battled DC Comics heroes like Batman, Superman, and Green Lantern in the days when Dark Horse Comics held the comic book rights, it seemed obvious that Marvel would eventually get to making them face off with their heroes as well. A couple years ago, we got Predator vs. Wolverine, which has been followed by Predator vs. Black Panther and Predator vs. Spider-Man. Last year, we also got Aliens vs. Avengers. Now, Marvel has announced the four-issue limited series Alien vs. Captain America, with the first issue set to reach store shelves on November 5th!

Written by Frank Tieri with artwork by Stefano Raffaele, Alien vs. Captain America has the following synopsis: Smashing Through,...

This 'Captain America' Easter Egg Hinted at the X-Men Over a Decade Ago
Image
Back when Marvel Studios made Captain America: The First Avenger, they had no idea that the X-Men would make it into the MCU in about a decade's time. In 2024, Deadpool & Wolverine officially introduced Hugh Jackman's Wolverine into the MCU, which is just another step closer to seeing the X-Men and Avengers team-up on the big screen. But did you know that The First Avenger offered us our first glimpse into an official X-Men crossover? No, Wolverine wasn't hiding in the background of one of Steve Rogers' (Chris Evans) missions against Hydra, but there was mention of a specific military base that longtime X-fans might recognize from the comics.

Captain America 4 Just Set Up The Perfect Replacement For Hydra In The MCU
Image
Captain America: Brave New World will pit Sam Wilson against a number of villains, including the Leader, the Red Hulk and the Serpent Society. Giancarlo Esposito has been cast as the King of the Serpent Society, Seth Voelker's Sidewinder, who formed the group in Marvel Comics. The Serpent Society could be the perfect replacement for Hydra, as this major supervillain organization has been all but ignored since Captain America: The Winter Soldier and Avengers: Age of Ultron.

A new supervillain organization appearing in Marvel Studios' Captain America: Brave New World could be the perfect replacement for Hydra in the MCU. Following major cast and story announcements at this year's Sdcc and D23 presentations, anticipation is high for the McU's next feature film, Captain America: Brave New World. Marking the theatrical debut of Sam Wilson's Captain America, Brave New World will pit the new star-spangled-man against a number of villains, including the Leader,...

Marvel Exec Addresses if Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. Is MCU Canon
Image
There has long been a continued debate over whether Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. is set in the Sacred Timeline of the MCU. The possibility has gotten an update from Brad Winderbaum, Marvel Studios' Head of TV, Streaming, and Animation.

In an interview with Screen Rant, Winderbaum spoke about the show's status in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, acknowledging how the TV series did hint at MCU connections. However, while not outright giving a clear answer, Winderbaum said that the series "fits into The Multiverse Saga," seemingly hinting that the events of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. are set in a different timeline, but could still potentially connect to the MCU through the multiverse. With that teased, the executive couldn't quite guarantee that either, hinting that there was no rush to revisit Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., even with great appreciation for the series.

Forget The Doctor Doom Hype, Chris Evans' Best MCU Return Would Break The Internet
Image
Warning: This article contains spoilers for Deadpool & Wolverine.

Chris Evans could return to the MCU as a twisted version of Captain America, following in Robert Downey Jr.'s footsteps. Robert Downey Jr. is returning to the MCU, but not as Iron Man, rather as Doctor Doom in Phase 6. Chris Evans has been hesitant about returning as Captain America, but the multiverse may allow many actors to portray different versions of their heroes in Avengers: Doomsday and Secret Wars.

Robert Downey Jr.'s transformation into iconic Marvel villain Doctor Doom has come as a shock, but Chris Evans could follow suit if he brings Captain America back to the MCU. Robert Downey Jr. and Chris Evans were the faces of the Infinity Saga, compiling two of the "Big Three" - alongside Chris Hemsworth's Thor - and both Tony Stark and Steve Rogers being powerful Avengers leaders. Unfortunately, both of these...

Why The McU's First Captain America Turns Evil - Isaiah Bradley's Shocking Twist Explained
Image
Isaiah Bradley's mind control leads to an attempt to kill the president. The brainwashing hints at another threat pulling strings behind the scenes. Escaping capture, Bradley may face ramifications or be reprogrammed.

Sam Wilson may be the new Cap, but one of the earliest characters to bear the title is set to have a wild turn in Captain America: Brave New World. The McU's Multiverse Saga is well under way, but since Steve Rogers left at the end of Avengers: Endgame, the Avengers team has been largely dismantled. Fortunately, with Sam Wilson picking up the shield and accepting the mantle at the end of The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, it appears that the stage is being set for the team to assemble once more.

However, in Wilson's first solo outing as Captain America, the hero will have several new villains to test his mettle against, and a few surprising friends turned foes.

10 Superhero Movies Missing From Rotten Tomatoes Best Movies Of All Time List
Image
Spider-Man 2 is a superhero classic that delves deep into Peter Parker's struggles and features a perfect villain in Doc Ock. Captain America: The Winter Soldier is a groundbreaking political thriller that challenges Steve Rogers and uncovers Hydra. X2 broke new ground in showing what superhero movies can be, with a compelling story and surprising mutants uniting together.

Although Rotten Tomatoes' recent Best Movies of All Time list does feature some of the best superhero movies, there are some notable omissions both from the MCU and Dcu. The superhero movie genre has become a huge part of Hollywood with dynamic storytelling, crossovers, and action-packed events that more often than not result in some major blockbuster hits. However, some of the greats are noticeably absent from this new list.

Rotten Tomatoes' new 300 Best Movies Of All Time list features films spanning across multiple genres of cinema. Of those 300, 10 are superhero films,...

Disney's Newest Bucky Snub Continues The McU's Crimes Against The Winter Soldier
Image
Bucky Barnes' role in Disney's Rogers: The Musical was cut due to time constraints, which continues the trend of downplaying his importance to Steve's story and the larger MCU. The reduced role of Bucky in the musical reflects Marvel's ongoing trend of sidelining his character in the MCU. Bucky deserves more respect and a story of his own, considering his complex legacy and character development in the MCU.

Disney's Rogers: The Musical, the 30-minute production showcasing Steve Rogers' legacy as Captain America in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, had to cut Bucky Barnes' role due to time constraints, continuing an annoying trend. Originally included in the Disney+ show Hawkeye, Rogers: The Musical was turned into a one-act musical performed at the Disneyland Resort in California this summer. Though other people in Steve's life, like Peggy Carter, have major roles in musical, Bucky Barnes only appears in the very beginning and in the final musical number,...

DC's Version of Hydra Just Proved It's More Disturbing Than the Original
Image
Warning: contains spoilers for Knight Terrors: Angel Breaker #1!DC’s version of Hydra just became even more disturbing. In the Marvel Universe, Hydra - a fascist, terrorist organization with its roots in WWII - uses fanatical believers in its bid for world domination. In the DC Universe, a group called Kobra plays a similar role, operating as a group of snake-themed zealots committed to evil. However, in Knight Terrors: Angel Breaker #1, they receive a disturbing new layer - one that rivals Hydra’s worst moments.

Knight Terrors: Angel Breaker #1 is written by Tim Seeley, drawn by Acky Bright, colored by Brian Reber and lettered by Saida Temofonte. Knight Breaker, a member of the League of Shadows, is leading an assault on a Kobra base, seeking the Asclepius, aka "the Dream Snake." Mixed in with Angel Breaker’s story are four young children at the Kobra compound. All are wearing school uniforms.

Bad City – Review
Image
Hitoshi Ozawa as Torada, in Bad City. Courtesy of WellGoUSA

The subtitled Japanese crime flick, Bad City, delivers the goods on two essential counts – an atypically complex plot with a handful of switches and double-crosses, building to an adrenaline-satisfying series of hard-nosed fight sequences. This is the second feature from director Kensuke Sonomora, after nearly 20 years of steady stunt work, including many gigs as stunt coordinator or action director. Experience shows, as this film seems more cohesive and focused than his first crime drama, Hydra, while still dishing out the mayhem that motivates most potential viewers.

Disgraced police captain Torada (Hitoshi Ozawa) is granted parole by an idealistic prosecutor to go after the city’s most powerful tycoon/criminal, Gojo (Lily Franky), who’d just been undeservedly acquitted on racketeering charges. Gojo’s tentacles reach high into every branch of government and law enforcement, making regular attempts to nail him futile.

10 Worst Things Nick Fury Did In The MCU
Image
Nick Fury has a history of making bad decisions, from exploiting the Skrulls to abandoning the Avengers when they needed him most. He kept Captain Marvel's existence a secret, even during emergencies like the Asgardians' arrival and Ultron's plan for world destruction. Fury manipulated Spider-Man by sending Talos in his place to deal with a new threat, while pretending to be on a desert island.

Nick Fury has made some terrible decisions in the MCU since his first appearance in 2008's Iron Man. Samuel L. Jackson debuted as Nick Fury in Iron Man's post-credits scene, teasing the formation of the McU's Avengers after Tony Stark revealed his superhero alter ego to the world. Jackson has appeared in a total of eleven feature films and two TV shows set within the world of the MCU, spanning a whopping 15 years, which makes him one of the longest-serving actors in any live-action superhero franchise.

Who Agents Of Shield Planned To Become Modok (& Why They Didn't)
Image
Before debuting in the MCU, Modok was almost introduced into Agents of Shield, but these plans were hastily canceled. Produced under the Marvel Television banner, adjacent to Marvel Studios' MCU, Agents of Shield ran on ABC for seven seasons between 2013 and 2020. The series featured the mysterious return of Clark Gregg as Phil Coulson following the character's death at the hands of Loki in The Avengers, exploring the dynamics of a new team of Shield agents as they deal with the unfolding events of the MCU. AoS introduced the Inhumans and explored the ongoing battle against Hydra and nefarious Life Model Decoys.

Over its run, Agents of Shield explored many storylines from Marvel Comics that weren't planned for adaptation into the MCU proper. During Agents of Shield season 4, many LMDs set to work on eliminating Inhumans, working under the command of the leader of the Watchdog terrorist organization, the Superior, otherwise known as Anton Ivanov.

Marvel's What If...? Premiere Review: It's Captain Carter to the Rescue
Image
It's Captain Carter to the rescue as Marvel Studios ventures further into alternate realities. What If...? is an animated series that brings the extraterrestrial Watcher (Jeffrey Wright) into the MCU. Known as Uatu in the comics, the Watcher observes historic events play out along different paths in the multiverse. The series premiere is a Captain America: The First Avenger redo. What If...? posits Peggy Carter (Hayley Atwell) taking the super soldier serum and not Steve Rogers.

What If...? opens in a familiar setting. Skinny Steve Rogers (Josh Keaton), surrounded by scientists, military brass, Howard Stark (Dominic Cooper), and Dr. Abraham Erskine (Stanley Tucci); gets ready to receive the super soldier serum and a blast of vita rays. But in this timeline, a chance realization and dastardly sabotage forces Peggy Carter to make a critical decision. Subject herself to the experiment or risk losing Erskine's work forever.

Meanwhile in Scandinavia, Hydra...

MCU’s Loki: 10 Things About The Tesseract You Need To Know
Owen Wilson, Tara Strong, Tom Hiddleston, Sophia Di Martino, Gugu Mbatha-Raw, and Wunmi Mosaku in Loki (2021)
The Disney+ series Loki served as the transition from the Infinity Saga to the next overarching storyline of the franchise. The Infinity Stones dominated the MCU’s Phase One to Phase Three plotlines, with the Tesseract being the most recurring object, having passed from Hydra to Loki, and then eventually to Thanos.

However, the comic book history of this item is far different from what mainstream fans are used to, making the story of the Tesseract entirely different in printed media. Exploring the background of Loki’s most favored object in the MCU will make fans truly realize just how much the series changed in its adaptation from the comics over to live-action.

Hydra – TV Series Review
Image
A scene from the Japanese TV action series Hydra. Courtesy of WellGoUSA

When I saw the title of this television series was Hydra, I thought we were in for another Marvel origin movie – this time about the evil organization the Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. spend their lives fighting. Not the case. This one’s a subtitled Japanese crime flick that’s long on action and short on everything else. The fight scenes will justify the time for any martial arts junkies who remember to set the rest of their expectations on low.

First-time director Kensuke Sonomura, who also appears in a substantial role, has 75 stunt gigs under his (presumably) black belt. That history allowed him to choreograph a couple of the most exciting, unique fight scenes in the genre. No wires or CGI pyrotechnics. Just a couple of foes squaring off in gritty matches of speed and agility with normal-people weapons.
