The Proposal is an original screenplay by Pete Chiarelli.
Sandra Bullock, who plays the principal character Margaret Tate, is 12 years older than Ryan Reynolds, who plays Andrew Paxton, her husband-to-be. Bullock was born in 1964; Reynolds in 1976. In the movie script, Tate is 37 and Paxton is 26. The age difference is briefly referenced in the movie, but it's not a major part of the plot.
Sitka is a real town in Alaska, but the Alaska scenes of The Proposal were filmed in Rockport, Massachusetts, in April 2008.
