This documentary provides an intimate look into how this truly beautiful piece of art was conceptualised and brought to life. The brainchild of Max Richter, a prolific composer who has added such essential scores to TV and films, such as The Leftovers, Arrival, Hostiles and Ad Astra, this eight hour lullaby has been his labour of love for twenty five years.
This film documents a live open air performance in Los Angeles, one of nine that were showcased around the world. With interviews from Richter, his partner and musical collaborator Yulia, and comments from attendees of the event, it achieves it's goal of an explanation and origin story.
Ultimately though, Sleep is a musical experience that transcends our consciousness between our two natural states, and the blurred reality that joins them. So make sure you have the full album ready to sing you to sleep as the credits begin to roll. You cannot fail to be moved.
Most moronic movie you will see all year.
Trust me.
It's complete trash for people with too much time on their hands.

One of the most ambitious musical performances by one of the most talented of composers gives birth to one of the most unique music documentaries of recent time.
An ethereal experience on life, solitude and shared memories, Sleep will lull you into a transient trance that perfectly captures the unique sensation crafted by the 8 hour long concert this film is about.
I absolutely adore Max Richter! His pieces of pure beauty (On The Nature Of Daylight, November, Sarajevo, Embers) are what made me fall in love with music in the first place, and this documentary is a remarkable look into his story.
I really recommend this for any other fans of Richter, and I doubly recommend it if you've ever fallen asleep using binaural beats.
I give this film an A4+

30 minuten would have been enough for this documentary. I prefer to listen to the full 8 hours of Sleep itself.
