‘A Nonsense Christmas With Sabrina Carpenter’: All The Songs You’ll Hear
Image
Sabrina Carpenter does have the same initials as Santa Claus, so it only makes sense that she would have a musical comedy holiday special with guest stars on Netflix. The singer’s 50-minute segment, A Nonsense Christmas With Sabrina Carpenter, streaming as of the evening of Friday, Dec. 6 contained several familiar faces, both musically and in the comedy and acting worlds.

Sadly, there was no sign of Marcello Hernández’s Domingo, but Nico Hiraga played an impressive modern day Ebenezer “Ebby” Scrooge. Carpenter performed musical duets with powerhouse singers Tyla, Shania Twain, Kali Uchis and Chappell Roan while she acted alongside Quinta Brunson, Cara Delevingne, Kyle Mooney, Megan Stalter, Sean Astin, Owen Thiele and Jillian Bell.

She was pitched several “Nonsense” outtros that ranged from bad to “not the worst.” She sang several songs from her holiday EP “Fruitcake” in addition to some Christmas classics like “It’s the Most Wonderful Time of the Year,...

All of the Songs in Sabrina Carpenter’s Netflix Special, Including Her Duet with Chappell Roan
Image
It’s not your mama’s Christmas special. After a whirlwind year Sabrina Carpenter hosted her first variety special on Netflix.

“You could have been anywhere tonight..But instead you’re here half-watching a big screen while scrolling social media on a smaller screen and for that I’m forever grateful,” she said to her studio audience.

“A Nonsense Christmas with Sabrina Carpenter” leans into the popstar’s old Hollywood glamour look with a touch of her signature raunchy twist.

The Grammy-nominated singer joined forces with talented guest stars, including duets with Tyla, Chappell Roan, Kali Uchis and Shania Twain. A couple of the star’s celebrity friends also stopped by, including Quinta Brunson, Cara Delevingne, Nico Hiraga, Kyle Mooney, Owen Thiele, Megan Stalter, Kyle Mooney and Jillian Bell.

The 5 Best Moments From Sabrina Carpenter’s ‘Nonsense Christmas’ Special, Including That Chappell Roan Duet
Image
“It’s the ho, ho, ho-iest special of all!”

Sabrina Carpenter’s “Nonsense Christmas” show arrived on Netflix on Friday. Highlighting her 2023 “Fruitcake” EP, the 49-minute show was chock-full of celebrity appearances, sketch comedy and a blend of her festive tunes and Christmas classics with Carpenter’s signature remixed lyrics.

While some of Carpenter’s holiday tracks are as Nsfw as her beloved “Nonsense” outros and “Short n’ Sweet” lyrics, her Netflix special — directed by Sam Wrench — had the challenge of remaining TV-14. As Carpenter sang, “You can watch with your aunties, I might mention panties, but don’t fret, it’s TV-14,” before saying, “which means I’m allowed to say ‘fuck’ three times. Fuck! Just one left.”

“There are comedy specials, and there are musical specials, and there are holiday specials. But who does musical comedy holiday specials? A lot of people,” Carpenter quipped midway through her “It...

Horror Highlights: Danza MacAbre Volume 3, Wolfland, We Go On

Severin Films Goes Goth On June 4th With Danza MacAbra Volume 3: The Spanish Gothic Collection: "Coming June 4th! Danza MacAbra Volume 3: The Spanish Gothic Collection is the latest in our acclaimed series of Gothic Horror Blu-ray box sets and the first to focus on Spain’s tradition of Gothic Horror, which – particularly during the Franco dictatorship – was characterized by daring concepts, lush visuals, extreme sexuality, and a startling aestheic all its own. These four classic shockers from the 1970s represent the genre at its most audacious: In Necrophagous, the debut feature by writer/director Miguel Madrid, a fractured family in a crumbling castle conceals a grisly graveyard secret. The anthology film Cake Of Blood – never previously available outside of Spain – presents a quartet of supernatural tales by four young filmmakers. Don’t Believe What You Read About ‘Liarmouth,’ Says John Waters, Whose Next Movie Is Still Up in the Air
Image
It’s not easy to shock John Waters. The “Pink Flamingos” director spent his career pushing, prodding and profaning the envelope in every way imaginable. But one thing the self-proclaimed “pope of trash” never thought he’d see was a career-spanning show at the Academy Museum.

The exhibition — which features everything from a full-scale trailer home to Ricki Lake’s cockroach-covered dress from the movie “Hairspray” — opened last September and runs through the end of August. Waters spoke to Variety ahead of the opening, but because of the writers’ strike last summer, he wasn’t able to discuss current or upcoming projects.

Back in Los Angeles this weekend, Waters provided a candid live commentary for his first two short films, “Hag in a Black Leather Jacket” and “Roman Candles,” and fielded questions from the audience. When asked how he feels to be paid such respect by the same organization that bestows Oscars,...

Locarno: John Waters on a Career Inside and Outside of Hollywood
John Waters
It’s 50 years since John Waters made his first feature film, “Mondo Trasho” — a scuzzy, Divine-starring underground ride that set the tone for a career of joyously offending delicate sensibilities and expanding the boundaries of U.S. indie cinema, through such now-celebrated films as “Pink Flamingos,” “Polyester” and the original, pre-Broadway incarnation of “Hairspray.” With Locarno celebrating Waters’ films with a mini-retrospective and the Pardo d’onore Manor award for career achievement, we caught up with the 73-year-old to discuss cinematic rebellion, past and present.

Half a century ago, when you were releasing your first feature, you can’t have imagined that you’d now be getting career awards and retrospectives at a major film festivals.

I know, I love it. It’s so different, though. When I was growing up, people’s parents found my films and called the police. Now people say to me, “My parents love you,...
