Psych fans may want to tune in to Boston Blue, the upcoming offshoot to the TV series Blue Bloods. It was previously reported that Donnie Wahlberg will return in the new series, but as he relocates to Boston, he'll be joined by an all-new ensemble cast of co-stars.

Per Deadline, it's just been revealed that Boston Blue has cast Psych star Maggie Lawson in a major role. Her casting follows the news that Star Trek: Discovery star Sonequa Martin-Green would play Detective Lena Silver, the new partner of Wahlberg's Danny Reagan. Lena is also the eldest daughter of a prominent law enforcement family, similar to the Reagans on Blue Bloods. Ernie Hudson was also recently cast for the show.

She will play Boston Police Department superintendent Sarah Silver, who is described as “well aware of the tightrope she can walk sometimes between her job and her family.”

“Boston Blue” stars Donnie Wahlberg in a reprisal of his “Blue Bloods” role, officer Danny Reagan. The series follows Danny after he takes a role with Boston Pd, where he is partnered with detective Lena Silver (Sonequa Martin-Green), the eldest daughter of a prominent law enforcement family.

Since its premiere, How I Met Your Mother has become an iconic TV sensation. Night Court, the follow-up to the classic legal sitcom, will air on NBC in the 2022-23 season.

When the series, which stars and is exec produced by The Big Bang Theory’s Melissa Rauch, was first ordered, the broadcast network had yet to decide whether it would air in midseason or in the next season.

After launching its midseason schedule today, Susan Rovner, Chairman, Entertainment Content, NBCUniversal Television and Streaming, confirmed that it will bow next season.

“We love Night Court and really do believe in it. It will be on next year’s schedule,” she told Deadline on a post-midseason schedule call.

Multicamera series Night Court comes from Rauch and Outmatched and Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt co-ep Dan Rubin. It was first developed last December, scored a pilot order in May and was picked up to series in September.

Jonathan Reynolds, a playwright and screenwriter whose string of film credits in the 1980s included the comedies Micki & Maude, Switching Channels, My Stepmother Is an Alien and the notorious flop Leonard Part 6, died Oct. 27 of organ failure at the Actors Fund Home in Englewood, N.J. He was 79.

His death was announced by family to The New York Times.

A prolific Off Broadway playwright, Reynolds stage works included the acclaimed 1982 Hollywood satire Geniuses, produced by Playwrights Horizons and based on the journals Reynolds wrote during his three months on location in the Philippines to observe the infamously difficult filming of Francis Ford Coppola’s Apocalypse Now.

Exclusive: Egot winner Rita Moreno has been cast in a starring role in the feature film The Prank, to be directed by Maureen Bharoocha (Golden Arm), opposite Connor Kalopsis and Ramona Young (Never Have I Ever). Filming begins this month in and around Los Angeles.

The Prank follows two high school students who play a prank on their physics teacher, Mrs. Wheeler, played by Moreno. When she fails them on a test; they teach the imperious, demanding, insulting instructor a lesson by falsely accusing her of the murder of a missing student.

Other cast in The Prank includes Keith David, Meredith Salenger, Jonathan Kimmel, Nathan Janak and Kate Flannery.

The dark comedy is written by Rebecca Flinn-White & Zak White. Bharoocha was recently named IndieWire’s Rising Female Directors of 2020, was on HBO’s 2018 Director’s List, and was nominated for the SXSW 2020 Adam Yauch Hörnblowér Visionary Directing Award.

The pilot, produced by Warner Bros. Television and Universal Television, was penned by “Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt” production alum Dan Rubin, who will serve as both executive producer and writer on the reboot.

The original series that aired on NBC from 1984-1992 starred Harry Anderson as an offbeat judge who worked the late shift at a Manhattan court house. Rauch will play the jurist daughter of Anderson’s Judge Harry Stone. She presides over the same court and tries to bring order to its crew of oddballs and cynics, most notably former night court prosecutor Dan Fielding (Larroquette).

Executive producing alongside Rubin are Rauch and her spouse Winston Rauch for After January Productions. Larroquette is also executive producing.

Jane Lynch, star of Glee and current host of NBC’s Weakest Link, has found her latest comedy role – joining ABC pilot Bucktown.

Lynch, who played Sue Sylvester on Fox’s musical dramedy, will star alongside Westworld’s Shannon Woodward in the comedy.

The show centers on Amy (Woodward), who, after being dumped by her boyfriend and kicked out of her apartment on the eve of a big promotion, finds refuge at her mom’s house in the blue-collar neighborhood where she grew up.

Prepare yourselves, Coke fans, a slot on Fox’s primetime lineup is about to become Pepsi territory. Wild Cherry Pepsi, to be specific.

Fox revealed Wednesday it has ordered “Cherries Wild,” a half-hour trivia game show hosted by Jason Biggs that will heavily promote Pepsi’s Wild Cherry brand. The soda maker partnered with the network for the show.

Here’s the official description for the series, which premieres Sunday, Feb. 14 at 7/6c on Fox: Created by Wes Kauble and hosted by Jason Biggs, this fast-paced half-hour game show will feature two rounds of pop culture trivia gameplay – during which a team of two contestants will try and “Solve the Slots” in hopes of getting one step closer to winning the $250,000 jackpot. At the end of each episode, when they spin the reels on the enormous slot machine, contestants will attempt to capture all five Wild Cherries to win the ultimate prize.

Asher Grodman (Succession), Danielle Pinnock (Young Sheldon), Richie Moriarty (The Tick), Sheila Carrasco and Román Zaragoza round out the series regular cast of Ghosts, CBS’ single-camera comedy pilot from Joe Port & Joe Wiseman, Lionsgate Television, BBC Studios and CBS Studios.

The quintet join previously cast leads Rose McIver and Utkarsh Ambudkar and co-stars Rebecca Wisocky and Brandon Scott Jones. The pilot, greenlighted in February but delayed by the coronavirus pandemic, is filming this week.

Written by Port and Wiseman based on the British series, Ghosts follows a young couple, Samantha (McIver) and Jay (Ambudkar), whose dreams come true when they inherit a beautiful country house, only to find it’s both falling apart and inhabited by many of the deceased previous residents.

Grodman will play Trevor. A finance bro who died in the late 1990s, Trevor’s life was “sick” and his partying “high level.” Limos, bottle service, Hamptons parties with B-list celebs.

In a Gold Derby exclusive, we have learned the category placements of the key Emmy Awards contenders for Fox. For this season, the broadcast network has returning hits “9-1-1”, “Empire”, “The Masked Singer” and “So You Think You Dance” plus newcomers like “Prodigal Son” among their slate.

Fox has renewed its Tom Payne- and Michael Sheen-led drama “Prodigal Son” for Season 2 to air during the 2020-2021 season, the network announced Thursday.

Created by Chris Fedak and Sam Sklaver, the psychological thriller follows Malcolm Bright (Payne), a psychologist who has a gift for understanding how serial killers think, because his father, Dr. Martin Whitly (Sheen) was one of the worst, a notorious serial killer called “The Surgeon,” per Fox’s description. Bright is the best criminal psychologist around and murder is the family business. The network has renewed the serial killer drama for a second season, closing the books on its scripted offerings from 2019-20. Its pickup follows renewals for The Resident and Last Man Standing earlier in the week, while the first-year comedy Outmatched was canceled.

The brain trusts at Fox have opted not to order a second season of child genius-themed sitcom Outmatched.

The now-cancelled series followed a blue-collar couple, Jason Biggs’ Mike and Maggie Lawson’s Kay, as they raised their four kids — three of whom are certified geniuses. In Outmatched‘s March finale, which drew an anemic 2.4 million viewers, it was revealed that their youngest daughter Leila — aka the lone “normal” kid out of this uber-brilliant brood — is also secretly a genius.

Fox has opted not to proceed with a second season of its freshman multi-cam family comedy Outmatched.

The move, which was fully expected, leaves Prodigal Son as the only Fox series formally on the bubble. That drama, starring Michael Sheen, is getting renewed, contingent on finalizing deals and locking in Sheen’s schedule.

Outmatched, the only new live-action comedy introduced by Fox this season, never quite registered creatively or ratings-wise, but Fox brass love the two leads, Jason Biggs and Maggie Lawson, and may try to get them for other network shows, I hear.

Fox has canceled the multi-cam comedy “Outmatched” after one season.

The news comes on the same day the network announced that it had renewed both “Last Man Standing” and “The Resident.” With the cancellation, the only Fox show awaiting word on its fate for next year is the freshman drama “Prodigal Son,” which sources say is likely to return.

Fox has canceled the multi-camera comedy “Outmatched” after one season, TheWrap has learned.

“Outmatched” was one of a handful of shows absent from Fox’s schedule for the 2020-21 season when the network announced it last week. “Last Man Standing” and the medical drama “The Resident” have since been picked up for new seasons, leaving the freshman drama “Prodigal Son” as the only scripted series still awaiting a decision from the network.

The cancellation leaves Tim Allen’s “Last Man Standing” and midseason entry “Call Me Kat” as the network’s only two live-action comedies currently on the slate for next season.

Fox is keeping the lights on at Outdoor Man, renewing Last Man Standing for a ninth season, TVLine has learned.

In addition to the Tim Allen comedy, the network has picked up a fourth season of medical drama The Resident. Both are expected to return sometime in 2021, following the release of a pandemic-proof fall schedule that mostly consists of sports franchises, reality series, animated tentpoles and postponed scripted fare.

Fox has officially renewed two more series for next season, flagship comedy Last Man Standing, headlined by Tim Allen, and medical drama The Resident, starring Matt Czuchry and Emily VanCamp. Both come from 20th Century Fox TV and both had been a lock to come back.

The pickups leave freshmen Prodigal Son and Outmatched as the only remaining Fox scripted series yet to hear their fate. As we reported, drama Prodigal Son’s renewal is being finalized while comedy Outmatched is not expected to continue.

Last Man Standing and The Resident will join the rest of Fox’s returning live-action series on the bench of midseason. Because of the uncertainty surrounding the timing of Hollywood’s production reopening amid the coronavirus pandemic, Fox’s fall schedule only features scripted series that are either already in the can or are animated, as animation has not been significantly impacted by the pandemic.

It's a good day for fans of The Resident. 

According to TuSubtitulo, the Fox drama has officially been renewed for a fourth season. 

The news is unsurprising, especially when you consider that The Resident Season 3 averaged 4 million viewers and a 0.7 rating in live + same day ratings. 

This is down around 20 percent from The Resident Season 2's results, but the numbers are still strong for Fox.

We also need to remember that the series was moved from Mondays to Tuesdays this season, so some erosion was to be expected.

Helping matters is that The Resident Season 3 went out with season highs of 6.8 million viewers and a 1.2 rating in live + 3 figures. 

The series may have lost some ground in linear ratings, but it remains a resounding success on digital platforms. 

The Resident focuses on the lives and duties of staff members at Chastain Park Memorial Hospital, while delving into the bureaucratic practices of the hospital industry.

Fox is pressing on with its plans for the fall, despite the Covid-19 lockdown showing no signs of slowing down.

As expected, the line-up consists of a lot of unscripted content because there will be a severe shortage of scripted content in the fall.

To help ease matters, the network is drafting in L.A.'s Finest, starring Jessica Alba and Gabrielle Union to its fall schedule.

The series was previously in the works at NBC, but the network did not give it a series commitment.

Spectrum stepped in to air it last year in a co-production deal, and Season 2 is slated to launch on Spectrum this year.

Fox has picked up both seasons.

This is a big deal for the series, allowing the network to promote it as a new show, and making it more viable to Spectrum in the hopes that people seek it out.

Fox may not be giving its usual upfront presentation to advertisers this year, but the network still set its fall slate right on schedule. On Monday — the day it would have held its upfront, if not for the coronavirus — the network unveiled a fall 2020 schedule which includes a pair of new dramas starring John Slattery and Kim Cattrall and returning hits like “The Masked Singer.”

But what that slate is missing is “9-1-1” and other staple series that are either moving to midseason or still awaiting decision amid the pandemic.

The network is filling the holes left by those shows with Slattery’s “neXt” and Cattrall’s “Filthy Rich” (dramas that wrapped production before the shutdowns) as well as broadcasts of “Cosmos: Possible Worlds,” which first premiered on Nat Geo, and Season 1 of Spectrum’s “Bad Boys” spinoff series “L.A.’s Finest,” starring Jessica Alba and Gabrielle Union.

In a normal year, TV executives would be working some serious late nights right about now, deciding the fall fates of existing primetime shows while weighing shiny new options in fully produced pilot form. This is not a normal year.

This spring, there are (pretty much) no pilots. Thanks to Covid-19, there are also no upfronts, the week when broadcasters hype up their returning and freshman series for potential advertisers. What there is instead is an opportunity for shows that might have been canceled any other year to give it (at least) one more go on network television.

Take Fox’s “Outmatched,” for one example. The Jason Biggs-led comedy has almost no buzz, averages a weak 0.8 rating among adults 18-49, including one week of delayed viewing, and has a 22% critics’ rating on RottenTomatoes. There is no reason “Outmatched” should have a chance at a second season — but it actually does.
