Combine Independence Day with an episode of Doctor Who from the 80's but with a cast where the vast majority doesn't even reach the level of community theater. Special effects were probably made with a free filter on a mobile phone and the action scenes are either very bad (gunfights) or rather good (hand to hand) that go on forever. The really awful thing was the writing. The story made NO sense and the dialogue was appalling. To give you an idea where you are getting yourself into : at a certain point they want us to believe that an EMP was activated while you still see the lights on in the background and they step into a working (modern) car. There's more "sci" in an episode of the Teletubbies. If I hadn't been locked up for the last year with this pandemic, I would have gone for a pint instead.
I like to remind myself people worked very hard on these projects so I try to find something positive to write but I couldn't find anything. You have been warned.

Lots going on in this one, mates. Lots of subplots and cross references and... blah. Lots of overly hysterical characters, gasping and grasping. No one central character to follow. So, lots of people to not care about. A big old spaceship, but lots of micro-action instead of the big picture. Fairly good fight choreography, but not much else going on. Seen on Tubi, the free streaming site, which has many indies, foreigns, older major studios, and now, live TV.

I watched the first 45 minutes and wow. What a mess.
First it was near impossible to keep the characters straight. The introductions were not clear at all. Sisters, brothers, steps, fiancees, girlfriends. Who's who? And what are their motivations? Personalities? They all seem 20ish, 30ish and mildly dysfunctional. Not much differentiation.
Then the not very credible story line. A spaceship appears and somehow overturns cars (opening scene). Then a short time later people are rioting and looting. Next an EMP hits but it does not affect the electrical grid. After that we learn there is only one spaceship and it is only effecting Bristol. So why are people going berserk? Why not just get in your car and go elsewhere? Cornwall is pretty, maybe there?
And where is the military? There is only one soldier so far, and he seems to be in the employ of some Russian mafia group.
Finally the women. I am by no means a feminist, but the female characters are hysterical and useless. They can barely go two minutes without screaming or needing some direction from the men. It's like some 1950s sci fi in this regard.
I am now going to look for some spoilers so I do not have to see the rest.

The plot is too much based on dumb people with dumber reactions.
Man, I hate stupid, screaming people.
Five minutes in and I was rooting for everyone to die... horribly.
The CGI... well, just try and ignore the CGI.
Was this a "let's use some town budget and make a movie around here" kind of production?

The basic story that unfolds in Horizon is interesting enough, and could have been the basis for an above-average sci-fi flick. Unfortunately the screenwriters did not exhibit similar rigor and creativity when fleshing it out. Plot holes abound, especially towards the end. Lines voiced by actors range from cliched but reasonable, to cliched and awkward, to, in some cases, idiotic. ("Give them hell!" "I intend to" is an instance of both--extremely commonplace-boring, and at the same time, it makes absolutely no sense in context.)
The acting ranged from reasonably good to awkward to cringe-inducing. There were too many fistfighting and gunfighting scenes, going on for far too long. And one or two scenes near the middle added nothing to the story.
I don't regret watching it, but would only recommend it to someone with a taste for B-grade or lower sci-fi.

... and watched the whole thing in the hope that perhaps the plot took some amazing twist that may have made up for an overall very substandard viewing experience. It didn't.

What does an alien race want with Bristol? Well that would be a spoiler for this excellent shoestring-budgeted sci-fi production that twists and turns its way through a believable storyline inhabited by characters you want to root for and those whose demise you wouldn't be teary-eyed over. It's smart, it's slick and it keeps you guessing. An excellent example of how small budget doesn't have to result in poor fare.
Reading some of the reviews make me wonder what people really expect. OK it's not a Hollywood blockbuster produced by a big studio it was a web series made by a company in Bristol who patched it together and released a movie and considering this whole 2hr movie had a total budget of £30k it's bloody good. I imagine most of the actors and crew would have worked for free and the budget went on the production costs. It's got a good solid story, the acting seemed a bit wooden in the first scene but soon loosened up the further it went on, the story flowed smoothly with plenty of backstory and we even had flashbacks a few hundred years. All in all it's not a bad movie for the very small budget, I'd recommend it to people who like indie movies just don't expect billion dollar budgets!

Bad acting, predictable, too many random stories, corny, just bad. Fight scenes were basic, corny characters ruined it. I'm a fan of western books, movies, video games, just not whatever this was. I feel bad for Costner because I actually like most of his movies. Took my 66 year old father whose childhood was all western movies and he just laughed at how bad this was. I'm just thinking about what else to write about on how bad it was but there so little to even talk about because I left after the first two hours. I can't believe I wasted 33 bucks for two tickets to see this movie. Can anyone make any great realistic movies anymore?

Oh the British! With their bland diet and blander movies. Stick to making movies about the Crown.
The entire movie is drab, bland and comedic to a fault. The characters are boring, Britain is boring and the movie is thoughtless. I don't know why the Brits even attempt movies other than the Crown or other period pieces! I watched a British horror film that was absolutely dead pan!! LMAO There is nothing scary about the British. Now I absolutely love a brilliant British movie, period piece. The ambience, costumes, the air and allure; Brittany should really keep to those types of topics. Don't get me wrong, I love England! God bless William and Kate! But they are not known for anything other than theater and royalty. I would love to go to an English theater and watch opera. But they are not known for that are not Known for their cuisine, are they? Lol.

I really enjoyed this series. I loved seeing Bristol and the actors were great. It was easy to follow and action packed.
It's not a hollywood buster i like that. Sometimes i like the more independent films. There's something about the characters that make it more relatable.

I hoped for a sprawling tale and vast landscape that might take me back to earlier styles of film making. It is this but it lacked an authenticity and its plot build is slow. The three story lines go out into the desert and well you have to trust Costner there will be development and resolution. By the end of the film it seems he loses his faith, panicking into a montage of what we must guess, is to come. As if the clips will lure us back into Chapter 2. It was clumsy here as I felt I was now watching a tv series. I wish too the screen ratio was different to soak up the horizons. So all in all enjoyable if you have the patience and mindset of something big to come and it delivers in Chapter 2. So for a middle aged guy wanted some nostalgia and cinema to be more demanding of our attention it mostly satisfied.
I watched season one at a special screening cinema event after all episodes had aired on the internet. It was really well received on the night so I also purchased the DVD version and financially contributed to the making of the second series.
If you haven't watched it yet I would definitely give it a go. I love a good cliffhanger and had to watch all the episode back to back to find out what happens next!
Being a Bristolian I loved recognising all the buildings and locations in Bristol used for filming.
It's not a big budget blockbuster film but it has everything needed to draw you in and make you want to know what happens next. Can't wait for the next instalment (series 3?)

This film was a little gem. No fantastic special effects and even so, the story was good and the acting was pretty acceptable.
For an Indie film, on a very low budget, this film was very good.
I gave it a 10 considering the budget and story and acting and plot and the excellent fight with the soldier. Also, the wimpy girl, Sarah I think, she was very good and she has great potential 😂 for the future.

This one really fits the bill. Characters believable and likeable and I love the film's intersection with the past. Well worth the watch.

Take time for an overview of one of the most important periods of the USA. 3 hours full with stories of the people looking for their future lives. Native amaricans, white immigrants, men and women, children, animals, it's all there.
I was a little frightened to watch again a simple western, with a simple storyline and simple characters. But nothing of that. Beautiful pictures, interesting cast, intriguing lines, awful images, beautiful surroundings, etc etc
You need to take your time and to sit down for a while. In stead of the negative comments everywhere, I really advise you to watch the movie yourself.
For me it was an epic movie.

It's about time for a good western! Those who rate it terrible just want to see garbage like the Academy Award Winning Best Movie? Horizon is a great movie and finally we have something to watch that entertains the public! Any wait to see the next chapter. Those that don't like the movie just want a fast paced shoot em up 1 hour piece of fake garbage. I give this movie a five star! You go Kevin
The movie keeps you thinking about each time period and the characters as it goes. Those critics of the movie want a no thinking crap movie! We need more movies like this one and let's make some actors into good cowboy greats like John Wayne, Jimmy Stewart and Burt Lancaster along with some good female leads too! !
