When it comes to streaming services, most sites are an ever-changing pool of mystery. Disney+, on the other hand, is one site you can always count on to know what you're getting. Disney+ has pretty much every Walt Disney Studios staple, as well as the complete collections of iconic franchises such as "Star Wars" and Marvel.
When picking the best films on Disney+, the choices could be obvious. We could easily include "Beauty and the Beast," the first animated film to be nominated for Best Picture at the Oscars. There's "The Empire Strikes Back," which many consider to be the best "Star Wars" entry. While including those films and fan-favorites like "The Lion King" and "Toy Story" would probably result in kinder reactions, we decided to mix it up a bit.
Even if your favorites are missing, every movie on this list is an absolute banger. If our choices don't...

Friends of Kermit and Miss Piggy are having a tough month. On June 7th, the film-attraction Muppet Vision 3D — Jim Henson’s final project before his death — will run for the last time at Walt Disney World’s Hollywood Studios. Muppet fans, who have expressed their dismay and sadness at the idea for months, now have a set date for the destruction of a beloved historical Muppet attraction.
Many fans have also taken issue with how Disney is handling the dismantling of Muppet Vision 3D: that is, without any fanfare and only vague references to somehow “preserving” the film. Disney representatives have also declined any interviews with current Muppet performers.
However, Steve Whitmire, the former Muppet performer who played Bean Bunny, Rizzo the Rat and Waldo C. Graphic in the attraction (he also inherited Kermit the Frog after Henson’s passing), was happy to take a walk down memory lane with me.

Way back in July of 2015, we heard that Matt Venne, whose credits include Masters of Horror, Fear Itself, Stephen King’s Bag of Bones, White Noise 2: The Light, Mirrors 2, and Fright Night 2 (not the ’80s one), had written an adaptation of author Carla Norton’s thriller novel The Edge of Normal on spec and landed a production deal for the script. Almost ten years went by with no updates, but the script moved on to a different production deal during that time and earlier this month it was announced that Chloe Grace Moretz (Kick-Ass) is set to star in the film. Now, Deadline reports that Rupert Friend (Companion) has signed on to co-star.

For people who didn't live through the era, it's a bit hard to quantify just how huge the Muppets were between 1975 and 1985. For five seasons, they were the stars of the beloved and wildly popular syndicated series "The Muppet Show," rubbing shoulders with celebrities like Liza Minnelli, Sylvester Stallone, and Mark Hamill. During that show's run, Kermit the Frog, Miss Piggy, and Fozzie Bear also made the leap to the big screen with the absolute, stone-cold classic 1979 film "The Muppet Movie," which only proved how talented they were while giving the world one of the most instantly iconic songs in "Rainbow Connection." While "The Muppet Show" ended its run in 1981, the Muppets would continue making successful films, such as that year's "The Great Muppet Caper" as well as the end of the would-be trilogy of sorts, "The Muppets Take Manhattan." This 1984 musical comedy is set in the Big Apple and...

Anonymous Content España, backed by Anonymous Content and Spain’s Morena Films, is teaming with Alea Media to produce a series based on Spain’s 1981 Toxic Oil Syndrome, one of – if not the – deadliest case of food poisoning in modern-day Europe.
The still-to-be-titled series is the first project announced by Anonymous Content España, underscoring its ambition to “elevate local stories into premium television pieces that have a local impact with an international reach,” said its Managing Director Beatriz Campos.
To achieve that, Alea Media is an excellent partner. It’s time to stop the music, it’s time to kill the lights. In devastating news for Muppet fans, the curtains are closing on MuppetVision 3D, which has been in operation at Disneyland’s Hollywood Studios since 1991. The move is meant to make room for Monsters Inc. Land. Fans, get your tomatoes ready!
With MuppetVision 3D out, that means that Muppets Courtyard will get a complete overhaul. So bid farewell to Miss Piggy’s fountain (which itself has been chiseled away at over the years), the themed restaurants and wealth of easter eggs that brought joy to fans. Instead, the area will be transformed into one themed after Monsters, Inc., no doubt in part because of the success of Toy Story Land.
Obviously the building that houses MuppetVision 3D will have to be put to use somehow, but what about the short film itself? Thankfully, Disney isn’t just torching it.

Being a teenager can be pretty tough. Most of us spend our formative years doing our best just to fit in. We are so desperate to find a place where we belong that it can expose us to the most sinister side of human nature. In the 2022 Spanish psychological horror thriller Piggy (Cerdita in Spanish), Sara (Laura Galan) is the subject of ruthless bullying by her peers because of her weight, which leads her to be extremely shy and anti-social. Many movies have been made about the horrors that bullied kids go through, but Piggy is unique in the way that it deals with these merciless teenagers who make Sara's life a living hell daily. Director Carlotta Pereda masterfully crafts a genre-defying film that slowly turns into the day-to-day misfortunes of a lonely Spanish girl and leads the audience down a horrifying path of abduction, torture, and twisted and bloody death.

My favourite festival of the year is soon to be upon us and Fantasia has another insanely brilliant line-up ready for you! Here are ten films – in no particular order – that I cannot wait to check out.
Samara Weaving in a new horror film. That’s all I need to say really but I will go on. Azrael is also written by Simon Barret and directed by E.L. Katz (Cheap Thrills) and is a post-apocalyptic survival horror. With almost no dialogue, this promises plenty of gore, action and another fantastic performance from Weaving.
In Bookworm, director Ant Timpson and Elijah Wood team-up once again (formerly in the excellent Come To Daddy), this time in a much more family-friendly movie. A camping adventure for eleven-year-old Mildred with her absent father does not impress her. But they will be searching for The Canterbury Panther in this strange and heart-warming adventure.

Malaga, Spain — “The Chapel,” from “Piggy” director Carlota Pereda, Celia Rico’s competition title “Little Loves,” loved by a lot of critics, and “Free Falling,” produced by “Society of the Snow’s” J.A. Bayona and that film’s producer Belén Atienza, looked like three of the hottest tickets at this week’s Malaga market and Spanish Screenings which rated as the most upbeat in years.
Most all sales agents on the films – focusing on titles from Spain and Latin America – whose ranks are now swelled by Antonia Nava’s Neo Art International, forecast or saw deal traction on more than one title or a broad slate of films.

Artist komakesthings combines The Muppets and The Princess Bride in delightful crossover artwork featuring Miss Piggy as Buttercup and Kermit as Westley. The artwork captures the essence of both stories, appealing to fans of both The Muppets and The Princess Bride. The interest in crossover projects shows a strong desire to see The Muppets take on more famous stories as they have in the past.
Kermit the Frog and Miss Piggy take on the roles of another iconic pop culture couple, as one artist imagines The Muppets in a scene from The Princess Bride. Rob Reiner's 1987 fantasy movie focuses on a romance between a princess and a swashbuckling rogue, as read by a grandfather to his sick grandson. Robin Wright stars as Princess Buttercup, a young farmer's daughter of Florin who falls for Cary Elwes' farmhand Westley. Mandy Patinkin, Wallace Shawn, and André the Giant portray companions in their quest.

Paris-based sales house Charades has acquired international sales rights to “In a Violent Nature,” the debut feature film from writer and director Chris Nash that is set to premiere in Sundance’s Midnight Section on Jan. 22.
Produced by Shudder under the streaming service’s Shudder Original banner, the film follows a vengeful undead monster as he methodically slaughters a group of campers in the wilderness after they remove a pendant from his resting grounds. Peter Kuplowsky and Shannon Hanmer are also producers on “In a Violent Nature,” which is set for release in 2024.

Cementing its reputation as a harbinger of emerging talent, Madrid-based Latido Films has acquired the international sales rights to “Tras el Verano,” the debut film from Yolanda Centeno picked out as one of Variety’s 10 Women Directors to Watch from Spain, compiled in 2021.
Alfa Pictures is handling distribution in Spain.
Following on hits such as Colombia’s “Killing Jesus” and “Carmen & Lola” and “Lullaby” from Spain, this acquisition not only underscores Latido’s interest in nurturing and promoting fresh, innovative voices in cinema but also highlights the strength of a new generation of talent emanating from the Spanish-speaking world.
Centeno’s debut feature has attracted strong talent in the form of Goya and Gaudi winners Ruth Gabriel (“Numbered Days”) and Alexandra Jiménez (“The Distances” “100 Metres”).
Joining them is actor Juan Diego Botto whose own directorial debut “On The Fringe” reaped recognition at the Goyas, Venice and other festivals.

In the Spanish comedy drama series “Zorras,” based on the Noemí Casquet best selling novel of the same name, Andrea Ros, Mirela Balic, and Tai Fei play Alicia, Emily, and Diana, three women from very different backgrounds. They find a commonality, however, in a desire for friendship and exploration of themselves through sexual experimentation and novelty.
“Zorras” might translate as “sluts” or “tramps.” The show flips such terms and acts such as bondage on their head.
“I really think it’s about empowering ourselves through those words that have been pejorative to us throughout our existence simply by living and doing with our lives what we want to do with our lives,” Casquet told Variety.
“The term ‘sluts’ has always been very derogatory regardless of how many times we slept with someone. What this series wants to do is to turn the term around. To stop hurting us and to...

Underscoring a renaissance on Spain’s genre scene, a duo of titles – Daniel Calparsoro’s “All the Names of God” and Carlota Pereda’s “The Chapel” – lead the lineup of the second Spanish Screenings on Tour, which unspools at Rome’s Mia forum, taking place Oct. 9-13.
A platform of market premieres, projects, pics in post and potential remake titles, the Spanish Screenings also underscore the ever stronger emergence in Spain of open arthouse titles – Isaki Lacuesta’s “Saturn Return,” Arantxa Echeverría “Chinas,” Benito Zambrano’s “Jumping the Fence” and Gerardo Herrero’s “Under Therapy,” which was one of the best-selling titles at March’s Malaga Spanish Screenings.
With titles in Next from Spain set to present trailers, Spanish Screenings on Tour will also position a bevy of anticipated feature debuts, at different stages of production, from Spain’s seemingly bottomless well of new talent, such as Jaume Claret Muxart.

Madrid-based sales house Latido Films and indie distributor-producer #ConUnPack are joining forces to handle international distribution rights to Tribeca Festival’s hit “One Night with Adela,” the feature debut of Spanish writer-director Hugo Ruiz snagged Tribeca’s best new narrative director award.
An audacious revenge thriller, lensed using a single-shot technique, the film marries concepts of religion and sin with childhood trauma.
“One Night with Adela” toplines Laura Galán, the star of Carlota Pereda’s 2022 Sundance hit “Piggy,” a role that earned her a Goya prize for best new actress.
In “One Night,” Galán plays a disturbed street sweeper in Madrid, who savagely enacts retribution for an incident from her youth over the course of one night.
Although not everyone is to blame for her miserable life, a cocktail of drugs, sex, and deep-seated fury fuels her cruelty towards most who cross her path, culminating in a shocking scene.

Hugo Ruiz’s One Night With Adela made waves at the Tribeca Film Festival, ensconced in the Midnight section. This enigmatic Spanish film, a feature debut for Ruiz, swept the festival, winning the Best New Narrative Director Award, a title previously held by the likes of Michelle Garza Cervera for Huesera. It’s a noteworthy achievement for a film that seemingly appeared out of nowhere, taking the festival by storm. Ensconsed in Tribeca’s Midnight section, Spain’s “One Night With Adela” the feature debut of Hugo Ruiz, came pretty much from nowhere to walk off with the festival’s best new narrative director award, won in the past by Michelle Garza Cervera for “Huesera.”
Produced by Spain’s Muertos de Envidia Company and FTFCam, the film follows Adela, a deeply wounded and disturbed night sweeper that is hellbent on retaliating against those who she believes have wronged her.

Fantastic Film Festival (Nifff) last year, incoming artistic director Pierre-Yves Walder marked his first edition with Scream Queer, a thematic retrospective that explored the thorny and thrillingly diverse forms of queer representation in genre fare. Now building on the success of that well-received program, the Nifff director wanted to deliver a sequel of sorts.
“We want to continue last year’s investigations and to take our thematic journeys a step further,” Walder explains. “You could say that this focus will continue to ask and answer the same questions with a slightly different emphasis.”
And so here comes Female Trouble, a 20-film, century-spanning spotlight built on a French play-on-words that blurs gender and genre. Starting with Mario Roncoroni’s silent serial “Filibus,” which mixed sci-fi motifs with gender-fluidity and lesbian desire all the way back in 1915, and on through Jacques Tourneur’s “Cat People...
