Following weeks of rumors, the Friday, August 30 episode saw what is likely the end of the road for actor Adam J. Harrington on ABC’s “General Hospital” after his character, John “Jagger” Cates, was killed off.
During a face-off with Sonny Corinthos (Maurice Benard), John confronts the mobster, telling him he should turn himself in by confessing to his crimes. Unfortunately for the FBI agent, Sonny had the upper hand, informing John that he made a mistake by going after his family, something the coffee importer/exporter had warned him about previously. In the end, Sonny shoots two bullets into John as the rain pours down over them.
In a post shared on X (formerly Twitter) after his final episode aired, Harrington seemingly addressed his exit, captioning the post, “Good night all……” The post was accompanied by a photograph of a sunset. Separately, in a post on his Instagram story timeline,...

Dominic Rains played Dr. Crockett Marcel on Chicago Med, but is leaving the show after five seasons. Rains became an integral part of Chicago Med's cast as Crockett changed immensely from his original character type and added something important to the show. Crockett's departure has been set up by the Chicago Med Season 9 finale, but he deserves to return for at least the Season 10 premiere.
Chicago Med fans know that the NBC show has a revolving door, but the departure of Dr. Crockett Marcel is especially going to hurt. Season 9 ended with Crockett taking a leave of absence from the hospital -- and not long after the finale aired, Deadline broke the news that actor Dominic Rains had also left the series. Season 10 won't be the same without Crockett or Rains, both of whom grew by leaps and bounds over the last five seasons.

You'd have to be the world's biggest grump to grouse over Billy Dee Williams returning to the role of Lando Calrissian for "Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker" 36 years after the character's last appearance in the series. First off, it's Billy Dee Williams. The man defined 1970s suave as Louis McKay opposite Diana Ross' Billie Holiday in "Lady Sings the Blues," and was denied a bevy of further star turns for infuriatingly obvious corporate/cultural reasons. Williams didn't disappear from the movies, but he should've been topping marquees for at least a couple of decades.

It’s official, Fox has confirmed that the next season of American Idol will have Harry Connick Jr, Jennifer Lopez and Keith Urban as judges.
TVLine reports that Lady Gaga will be appearing on Saturday Night Live as musical guest and host. After watching her perform in sketches with Justin Timberlake, I’m eager to see more.
In an interview with The Av Club, Futurama co-creator David X. Cohen says tonight’s farewell required some special planning to get right, “For the scenes between Fry and Leela in the final episode, for example, Katey Sagal was very busy, because she’s shooting Sons Of Anarchy at the same time she’s recording Futurama. So, we recorded some of the really deep scenes between Fry and Leela individually and tried to piece it together, and I finally just went, ‘You know what? This isn’t going to work. We’ve got to do this right.

NBC is adapting the popular Venezuelan telenovela The Black Widow for American audiences. Sri Rao (General Hospital: Night Shift) will write the script. The Black Widow is based on Venezuela's telenovela La Viuda Joven, which premiered in 2011 and aired 142 episodes around the world.
Electus is producing. The Black Widow is one of three telenovelas that Electus is developing for NBC, with an eye toward one of them airing as a 13-episode series, with multiple episodes running each week, much like an actual telenovela.

NBC has inked a deal with Ben Silverman’s Iac-owned company Electus to develop three telenovelas with an eye toward airing one as a 13-episode series — with multiple episodes running each week, following telenovelas’ traditional air pattern. That would mark a rare stripped primetime run for an original scripted series on a U.S. English-language network. “We believe there is huge potential for telenovelas to be adapted and developed for American viewers,” said NBC Entertainment president Jennifer Salke. “These stories clearly have resonance across all cultures and nationalities.” NBC and Electus have identified the first project to be developed under the pact, The Black Widow, from writer Sri Rao (General Hospital: Night Shift). It is an adaptation of the hit Venezuelan telenovela La Viuda Joven, which premiered in 2011 and aired 142 episodes around the world. (See the Spanish-language trailer below.) Created by Martin Hahn, it centers on the stunning Rojas aka Baroness,...

NBC is making a big push into the telenovela business. The network is teaming with Electus to develop three telenovelas with one likely earning a 13-episode series order, The Hollywood Reporter has learned. First up, the network will develop The Black Widow, an adaptation of Venezuelan telenovela La Viuda Joven, with writer Sri Rao (General Hospital: Night Shift). The drama centers on a mysterious woman who becomes a celebrity after marrying a famous baron. With enormous wealth following the deaths of her last three husbands, she becomes a suspect when her fourth spouse dies. Photos: NBC's 2013-14 Season:

Up All Night is bringing in an Alphas female to whip Ava into shape.
TVLine has learned exclusively that Azita Ghanizada will appear in a Season 2 installment of the NBC comedy, playing Ava’s yoga instructor and uncharacteristically fast friend. However, not everyone is fond of the former talk show host’s new pal.
Reagan quickly becomes crazy-jealous of just how close the two have grown, particularly when she realizes that their relationship centers on something to which she can no longer relate: being a happily (?) single lady.

Alec Baldwin interviewed Fred Armisen for his podcast and asked for a role on Portlandia. Considering Baldwin's Saturday Night Live performances, I'd say they should consider writing an episode around his various ideas for characters.
In what could turn out to be amazing news, new episodes of the classic Iron Chef will air in Japan starting in October. If it gets dubbed in English like the original run, I will be ecstatic.
Saturday Night Live is adding three new cast members, including two Second City alums.
How does the cast of MTV's The Inbetweeners deal with internet trolls? This is almost as good as that Kidz Bop twitter account.

Good Times, Bad Times
I've read a lot of the commentary about these scenes, and I think Edwin is wildly over-reacting. He acts as if Ron was under some obligation to tell him that was gay, but I don’t think he is. It’s not like it ever came up, and Ron certainly never lied to Edwin about it. I agree with Ron that Edwin is making a big deal about it, mostly because he thinks Ron is after him.
But how does Ron hiding his sexuality, which I don’t feel he did, mean that he is out to snare Edwin? And how would not telling Edwin he was gay help Ron if he really were out to get Edwin? That does not compute to me.
Besides, thus far Ron hasn’t done anything to undermine Lucas and Edwin’s relationship. On the contrary,...

One of our favorite mantras around the AfterElton offices is “because visibility matters.” Indeed, the idea that gay and bisexual men need to be visible, both to ourselves and to the wider culture, is one of the principle reasons AfterElton.com even exists. After all, it is only by being visible to family, friends and the world that we’ve been able to overcome the stereotypes and bigotry used to justify discrimination against the Glbt community.
That quest for visibility explains why we have done so many polls including the AfterElton Hot 100, the Fifty Greatest Gay Movies, the Top 50 Gay TV Characters, and the 50 Best Gay Books. After all, it’s not as if Entertainment Weekly is going to ask gay and bisexual men which guys we think are the hottest, which movies mean the most to us or, in the case of our latest poll, which celebrities we most admire.

We value you ladies and feel bad that every year we have to ask you to sit out the Hot 100 voting (for that list we wanted a fair representation of whom gay and bi men find attractive).
To try and make up for it, every year we run a special poll exclusively our female readers, in which we ask them which gay/bi men they find hot.
This year over 12,000 votes were cast for over 600 different nominees. The top fifty appear here.

Every day until the results are announced for the 2009 AfterElton.com Hot 100 poll we're leaking beefcake at a steady rate of a hunk a day (two slipped out on Monday, but we've adjusted the stream).
Today's fan-fave is out actor Chad Allen, who has transitioned from child star (Our House) to teen dream (Dr. Quinn, Medicine Woman) to out actor and bona fide gay role model (Save Me, General Hospital: Night Shift, the Donald Strachey Mystery series). All this, and he still finds the time to promote Arbor Day:
Oh, and he's currently auctioning off his tidy whiteys for charity. Now that's putting your money where your mouth ... would ... like to ... be ...? (sigh)
To find out where Allen placed on this year's list, you'll have to come back for the results. But for now, enjoy this assortment of pictures...

Two weeks ago, the Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation (GLAAD) named CBS’ daytime soap opera As the World Turns Outstanding Daily Drama for their storyline centered on gay teens Luke Snyder and Noah Mayer. This was the second year in a row that Atwt won the award.
It was also the second year in a row that Tom O’Neil, who writes the Gold Derby blog for the Los Angeles Times, decried GLAAD’s bestowing the honor on the show; last year he also called on the media watchdog group to rescind the same award. This year he was joined by Nelson Branco of The Suds Report in condemning both GLAAD and As the World Turns.

Chatting With … Sri Rao
I recently had the pleasure of interviewing Sri Rao, the former head writer of last year’s best soap opera on either daytime or nighttime television, General Hospital: Night Shift. In addition to discussing his work on that gay-inclusive, critically acclaimed show, Rao also shared his thoughts on the depiction of gay characters in the genre, who should write gay characters, how As the World Turns handled the Luke and Noah storyline, as well as news about a new project very close to his heart.
[While very interesting and worthwhile, this interview is five pages long. To skip directly to this week's In My Humble Opinion, Gool Newsbeat and Scoops And Spoilers click here.]

AfterElton.com: You were the head writer for General Hospital: Night Shift. Had you written for soaps before that?
Sri Rao: No, this was my first foray into the soap opera genre. I had been watching General Hospital for my entire life. I’m a long-time fan of the show so I was very familiar with it.

In The Spotlight — Emmerdale
This week we bid a fond farewell to Emmerdale’s Paul Lambert (out actor Matthew Bose) and Jonny Foster (Richard Grieve), by taking a look back at their relationship as they exit the series for a new life in Australia – oh, yeah, and to give their troubled marriage a second (or is it third?) chance. It’s been a long hard road for this couple that found their love tested time and again.
Matthew Bose (left) and Richard Grieve
During Paul’s years living in Emmerdale, he endured a series of unsuccessful relationships and tumultuous events including the night he rescued his neighbor Grayson Sinclair (Christopher Villiers) during an assault (and somehow managing to learn of Grayson’s bisexuality in the process0. Grayson’s wife, Perdy (who is aware of her husband’s bisexuality) instantly concluded Paul and Grayson were secretly lovers, but once Paul convinced...

This week we speak with Tom Chroust, former head writer of Forbidden Love. Chroust started at the show as an intern in August 1998 and eventually became head writer at Fl from July 2007 to June 2008. (He now is part of the writing team at All That Matters.)
During Chroust's tenure as head writer at Fl he shepherded the internationally loved romance between Christian Mann (Thore Schölermann) and Olli Sabel (Jo Weil). We talked to the out writer via email about that storyline, as well as other plots and characters he enjoyed working on. We also asked him what he wished he could have done differently and lots more!
German soap writer, Tom Chroust
AfterElton.com: How did you come up with the love story for Christian and Olli? Was it a story that you already had in mind in general, meaning a gay love story, or for them in particular?
