Ms. Marvel's New Mutant Superpower Finally Revealed, Permanently Changing the Hero's Lore
Image
For years now, Marvel has been teasing that Kamala Khan's Ms. Marvel has a hidden superpower - a result of her combined mutant/Inhuman DNA. While her stretching abilities come from her Inhuman genetics, that same DNA blocks her mutant ability from manifesting... or at least it did until now.

This isn't the superpower fans expected (and feared) Ms. Marvel would get...

In today's Giant-Size X-Men #1 - from Jackson Lanzing, Collin Kelly, Adam Kubert, Laura Martin and Clayton Cowles - Kamala Khan is hurled through time, encountering the X-Men during the events of 1975's pivotal Giant-Size X-Men from Gil Kane and Dave Cockrum. Signing up with Cyclops' team, Kamala gets her own official X-Men costume. Then, in a battle against a corrupted version of Xavier's son Legion, she manifests an unexpected power.

Fighting Legion, Kamala's fists take on a glowing, diamond-patterned appearance, emitting a shimmering trail...

“I genuinely believe it’s one of the most underrated games of last gen.”: One Underrated Ubisoft Game is Starting to Get Some Love Months After the Dev Reportedly Killed the Franchise for Good
Image
Ubisoft has had a rather rough time as of late with its poorly received announcement regarding the next Assassin’s Creed title, Assassin’s Creed Shadow’s, which has caused players to disapprove of Ubisoft’s decisions.

However, one player hasn’t let this recent controversy stop them, as they have looked back through Ubisoft’s game library and has made a rather popular statement regarding Watch Dogs 2 and how they believe it was one of the most underrated games of the last generation.

Ubisoft Had the Right Idea With Watch Dogs 2, but It Has Now Taken a Step in the Wrong Direction After Ubisoft’s recent Assassin’s Creed announcement, players look back in time to another of its franchises.

It has been nearly 8 years since Watch Dogs 2 was released to the public, and it was rather middling in its reception as gamers were unsure about it. Once the game was released,...

The Bones Episode With The Most Viewers Was A Fiery, Kidnapping Nightmare
Image
Before the streaming wars reinvented cable yet somehow made it worse, television series didn't need to be ratings giants to enjoy a long life. In point of fact, shows that attracted a consistent audience tended to survive long after whatever pristine new series executives had counted on becoming their next breadwinner inevitably faltered partway into its soon-to-be-short-lived run. (My sympathies to "Terra Nova.")

"Bones" was one such series for Fox. Despite the network's baffling efforts to sink Hart Hanson's modest procedural dramedy, the show was quick to draw a loyal crowd that followed it anywhere Fox thought to move it (even the dreaded Friday night "death slot"). In fact, the series actually peaked in terms of immediate viewership after just 11 episodes (out of 246!) with season 1's "The Woman in the Car," which aired on February 1, 2006, to an audience of roughly 12.64 million viewers and double the number of eyeballs. Later...

Christina Ricci and Hamish Linklater to star in an adaptation of Kathy Braidhill’s funeral home true crime drama Chop Shop
Image
With shows like Six Feet Under, Good Grief, Fun at the Funeral Parlor, and Chilling Adventures of Sabrina putting the “fun” back in funeral homes, it’s high time a show came along to remind audiences how grim and mysterious these houses of death can be. That’s why I’d like to bring Chop Shop to your attention. Deadline says a new series starring Christina Ricci and Hamish Linklater is gaining buzz as it prepares to court a network.

Inspired by the Kathy Braidhill novel, Chop Shop retells the true crime story about the Lamb Funeral Home in 1980s Los Angeles. The following description comes courtesy of Deadline‘s exclusive article: When David Sconce — the Machiavellian scion of a Bible college football coach and a church organist — takes the reins of the family business, the seemingly All-American clan begins a jaw-dropping descent from saints to sinners. Desperate to keep their funeral home afloat,...

Sofia Vergara gives a Golden Buzzer to Legion on ‘AGT’ [Watch]
Image
On June 11, “America’s Got Talent” season 19 continued with the third installment of audition episodes. In this initial stage of the competition, each judge is given two “golden buzzer” decisions to make where they can send an act straight through to the live shows. During “Auditions 3,” Sofia Vergara differed from the other judges because the Malambo dance of Legion was not new to her as a South American, but still they were “spectacular” enough to earn her top prize. Watch the full performance in the video above.

The men of Legion explained to the judges that they are an Argentinian Malambo company that rehearses their dance routines extracurricularly to their “real jobs.” With the money should they win, they told Simon Cowell they want their own studio because they’ve been preparing in the backyard of a members’ parents backyard. Malambo is a traditional folk dance where the boots of the dancers are lit on fire,...

Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire Director Finally Explains How Mothra Returned After King Of The Monsters Death
Image
In Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire, Mothra made her surprise return and helped the movie's title characters put their differences aside. The iconic Kaiju perished in Godzilla: King of the Monsters courtesy of the evil King Ghidorah, making the apparent retcon confusing for many fans.

A Mothra egg was discovered shortly after her death, though an explanation for how it was transported into Hollow Earth has never been shared. So, was the Mothra we met a resurrected version of the one that died, the Titan that came out of the egg, or the true original?

Talking in Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire's "Art of" book (via SFFGazette.com), filmmaker Adam Wingard confirmed a big theory about Mothra and finally set the record straight on this apparent plot hole.

"When King of the Monsters came out, my dad went to go see the movie, and the first thing he...

Adarsh Gourav reveals why he'll be in the news throughout 2024
Image
Mumbai, Jan 5 (Ians) Most recently seen in the streaming film ‘Kho Gaye Hum Kahan’ with Ananya Panday and Siddhanth Chaturvedi, Adarsh Gourav has quite a crowded calendar in the year ahead and he talked about it on the sidelines of an event here.

Topping his upcoming projects is ‘Alien’, an American TV series inspired by Ridley Scott’s sci-fi horror franchise of the same name.

The series, which is expected to be released later this month on FX on Hulu, is being directed by Noah Hawley, creator of shows such as ‘Legion’ and ‘Fargo’.

Of course, Gourav is in the news for his re-appearance as Jugnu ‘Chhotu’ Ganchi in the much-anticipated black comedy ‘Guns & Gulaabs 2’.

But he’ll also be seen in Reema Kagti’s ‘Superman of Malegaon’, based on the life of Sheikh Nasir, who featured in the 2012 documentary ‘Supermen of Malegaon’.

John Ridley's Scrapped Eternals Series For Marvel Was 'A Really Weird Story'
Image
This may be a controversial opinion, but Chloé Zhao's 2021 film "Eternals" is perhaps one of the best in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. While several other chapters in the long-running media franchise may have featured more action and captured a certain kind of zippy character archetype that appeals to kids and adolescents, "Eternals" told a broad, philosophically dense sci-fi story that reached far outside superhero norms. The Eternals were a team of unfathomably ancient beings, constructed by ineffable space deities -- Celestials -- tasked with overseeing multiple billion-year cycles of God reproduction. The Celestials required the Eternals specifically because they did not evolve. Their previous creation, Deviants, evolved far too quickly. "Eternals" deals with a time frame so vast, evolution is considered "quick."

The Eternals also regularly aided humanity in their societal development, and are said to have been present in Mesopotamia, Babylon, and other ancient kingdoms. That's when they're...

The First Omen Trailer Looks Like Rosemary’s Baby But Trashy
Image
When Richard Donner’s The Omen came out in 1976, it was at the tail end of a recent wave of demonic, faith-based horror. Less than three years earlier, William Friedkin’s The Exorcist became one of the highest grossing films ever, and both movies likely got their greenlight because Roman Polanski’s Rosemary’s Baby chilled audiences to the bone in 1968 by showing a mother slowly realize she is giving birth to the Antichrist.

So nearly 50 years later, it seems kind of appropriate that The Omen returns to that initial influence in this year’s The First Omen, a devilish prequel if we’ve ever heard of one. In the new movie, director and co-writer Arkasha Stevenson makes her feature debut after helming prestige genre shows like Legion. She offers an alternative vision from the Rosemary template about how the Antichrist comes into the world. The logline of the picture...

‘The First Omen’ Trailer: The Devil Is Conceived in a Sinful Horror Prequel
Image
Before Damien was born in Richard Donner’s infamous 1976 horror classic “The Omen,” a Vatican-adjacent conspiracy to bring the Devil to Earth made for a sinful demonic ploy.

“The Omen” prequel “The First Omen” is the latest installment in modern horror franchises and reboots, following the original film which chronicled an American ambassador (Gregory Peck) who adopts a son who turns out to be the antichrist. The film was remade in 2006 by then-20th Century Fox, and landed the short-lived 2016 sequel series, “Damien.” Now, 20th Century Studios’ “The First Omen” attempts to capture where all that satanic worship kicked off.

The film’s official synopsis reads: “When a young American woman (Nell Tiger Free) is sent to Rome to begin a life of service to the church, she encounters a darkness that causes her to question her own faith and uncovers a terrifying conspiracy that hopes to bring about the birth of evil incarnate.

10 X-Men Movie Moments The MCU Can Do Better
Image
Marvel Studios can fix the mistakes made by Fox in the X-Men franchise once mutants and the X-Men are established in the MCU, giving audiences a better version of these characters. Fox's X-Men franchise introduced popular characters from Marvel Comics to mass audiences and revolutionized superhero films, paving the way for the MCU. Marvel Studios has the opportunity to improve upon Fox's handling of certain characters and storylines, such as Storm, Darwin, and the mutant cure, in order to do them justice in the MCU.

Fox's X-Men franchise had some very disappointing moments, but Marvel Studios can repeat these moments better once mutants and the X-Men are more established in the MCU. Disney's acquisition of 20th Century Fox back in 2019 meant that the rights to mutants and the X-Men reverted to Marvel Studios, allowing a whole host of new characters from Marvel Comics to be brought into the MCU proper.

Exploring the Future of the ‘Alien’ TV Series with Showrunner Noah Hawley
Image
The Alien franchise is gearing up for a new chapter with Noah Hawley’s upcoming TV series. In a world where TV shows are usually clearly marked as either limited series or ongoing sagas, the Alien prequel keeps us on our toes. Collider recently shared insights from Hawley about his vision for the series.

Hawley’s approach echoes his work on the Marvel series ‘Legion,’ which ran for three seasons. He hasn’t committed to a specific number of seasons for the ‘Alien’ prequel, but his planning process is noteworthy. Eschewing rigid outlines, he prefers an organic story development. “I just don’t necessarily know how long it’s gonna take me to get there,” Hawley remarks. His strategy involves letting the story evolve naturally, driven by creativity rather than a fixed plot.

The writers’ room is a hub of creativity, with big ideas starting to take shape on a whiteboard.

10 of the Scariest Moments from Japanese Kaiju Movies
Image
From the hidden depths of the sea, to the farthest corners of the globe, legendary monsters lie in wait. These colossal and fabled creatures, broadly referred to as kaijū, remain dormant or lurk in the shadows until there is no mistaking their existence. During the course of their travels, they often menace civilizations or battle other beasts of a similar size. Their legacies are formidable and their powers are devastating.

Yet despite their sheer enormity and astonishing abilities, audiences today may find it difficult to imagine the likes of Godzilla being genuinely scary. Their destruction can be shocking, but the monsters themselves don’t always strike fear in mankind’s heart. Even so, there are those instances in the course of Japanese kaijū cinema — from Godzilla, Gamera, or otherwise — where viewers are genuinely unnerved by what they see on screen.

Paul Bettany's Forgotten 2011 Monster Movie Secretly Remade John Wayne's Best Western
Image
Paul Bettany's movie Priest is a stealth remake of John Wayne's iconic Western, The Searchers. Priest draws heavily from The Searchers, with similar story beats and themes of rescuing a kidnapped relative from an enemy. Priest even uses a fan theory from The Searchers, revealing that the hero's kidnapped niece is actually his daughter, adding an emotional twist to the ending.

A forgotten Paul Bettany vampire movie is a stealth remake of John Wayne's most iconic Western. Wayne became a movie star thanks to his turn in 1939's Stagecoach, and even though the film featured an ensemble cast, his performance stole the show. While he featured in everything from romantic dramas to war movies, he was also permanently typecast as a cowboy. John Wayne starred in 80 Westerns throughout his 50-year career, with some of the most notable being Red River, Rio Bravo and True Grit.

Possibly the most iconic would be The Searchers,...

Fargo Season 5 Interview: Jon Hamm On Collaborating With Noah Hawley & Playing The Villain

Jon Hamm was drawn to Fargo season 5 because of his admiration for the show and his trust in creator Noah Hawley. Hamm's collaboration with Hawley involved both discussing the character of Roy Tillman and diving headfirst into Hawley's vision for the show. The storyline of season 5 involves a cat-and-mouse game between Hamm's character and Juno Temple's character, with their paths eventually colliding in a unique and creative way.

Much like the Coen brothers' movie that preceded it, FX show Fargo is best known for its blend of dark humor and outlandish Midwestern characters partaking in blood-filled adventures. Season 5 of the hit series, created by Noah Hawley (Legion), takes place in 2019 and returns to its Minnesota roots after season 4 strayed to Kansas. ‘Deadpool’ Filmmaker Tim Miller, Warner Bros. Tackling Adaptation of Sci-Fi Comic ‘Alien Legion’
Image
Warner Bros. is building its own galaxy that is far, far away.

The studio has picked up the rights to Alien Legion, a star-spanning, sci-fi comic initially published by Marvel Comics, with the aim of building a homegrown space opera franchise.

Tim Miller, who directed the original Deadpool as well as Terminator: Dark Fate, is attached to direct.

Don Murphy and Susan Montford of Angry Films, the banner whose credits include Transformers and Real Steel, will produce along with Aaron Ryder.

Legion was co-created by Carl Potts, a former editor and writer at Marvel, and was introduced as part of the publisher’s creator-owned imprint, Epic Comics, in 1983. It became the line’s longest-running title, even outliving the imprint when it was moved to other publishers in the 21st century. Alan Zelenetz and Frank Cirocco are the other co-creators.

Described as “the French Foreign Legion in space,” the stories focused...

David Fincher Finally Gets a Netflix Hit with ‘The Killer’
Image
As expected, Netflix had a quick hit on its hands this weekend: David Fincher’s “The Killer” was an immediate #1 on the streamer. Credit the genre and star Michael Fassbender for giving it a boost that even top directors like Fincher don’t always guarantee.

After all, even Fincher’s first Netflix film, “Mank,” wasn’t a hit. His second offering for the streamer is immediately doing far better than his 2019 black-and-white biopic. Despite good reviews — and eventual Oscar nominations — “Mank” made Netflix’s top 10 for just one day and it only ranked at #10.

As for “The Killer,” its action appeal, a lead actor not known for streaming originals, and elevated festival attention all seem to have contributed to its immediate ascension to #1. It replaced “Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse,” with Sony’s big summer hit still #2.

Netflix originals only took one other place the chart: “Locked In,” a London-set thriller...

Legion 2010 Ending Explained
Image
Disobeying authority, even at great personal cost, is worth it when one knows that the orders are morally wrong. Michael's resurrection in Legion was a reward for his defiance of God's plan to destroy humanity, showing that compassion and a sense of right and wrong are important qualities for archangels. Jeep's optimism and hope for a positive outcome influenced Michael, demonstrating that the faith and belief of one person can have a significant impact on humanity's future.

The ending of 2010's Legion demonstrates through the archangel Michael that it's worth disobeying authority even when it costs everything when one knows that the orders are morally wrong. Legion is director Scott Stewart's first feature-length film with a cast that features Paul Bettany, Dennis Quaid, Tyrese Gibson, Lucas Black, Adrianne Palicki, and Kevin Durand, among others. The exact reason for its cancelation was not disclosed, but low viewership and a decline in viewership throughout the 13-episode season may have played a role. Anthony Head, who starred in "Dominion," suggested that changing the show's airing schedule and a lack of active promotion by Syfy could have affected its viewership and contributed to its cancelation.

The 2010 movie, Legion, was a hit when it first came out in theaters but never received a sequel, leaving audiences curious about what might have happened next in its overarching storyline. Directed by Scott Stewart of the Priest and Dark Skies fame, Legion opens with an intriguing hook where a group of diners finds themselves facing evil supernatural forces.

Alien FX Series Now Eyeing 2025 Release Date
Image
FX's Alien series, created by Noah Hawley, won't premiere until 2025 due to recent setbacks and strikes in Hollywood. The show explores a future Earth where different companies compete for dominance in technologies like artificial intelligence and immortality. Production for the series has been delayed, with the majority of filming still remaining, but Hawley is excited to be a part of the iconic Alien franchise.

Some bad news for Alien fans as reports have indicated that FX's Alien series likely won't premiere until 2025. The series hails from creator Noah Hawley (Legion), who told The Wrap, “The plan right now is to go back in January and be shooting in February, and it looks like shoot until July or so, which puts the air date somewhere in the first half of ’25." Thanks to Fargo, Hawley has some experience with taking a popular movie and turning it into a successful TV show.

Watch the Trailer for Legions: "XYZ Films is proud to launch the trailer to Fabián Forte's Legions, which will land on North American VOD January 19th following an acclaimed festival run that included Sitges, Fantasia, and Fantaspoa. An unabashed love letter to Sam Raimi's Evil Dead series, this gory, hilarious, and heartwarming horror gem is the perfect way to start your 2023!

Prolific Argentinian filmmaker Fabián Forte’s newest film combines the best of his previous cinematic endeavors: the comedic writing and direction of his 2016 hit Dead Man Tells His OWN Tale is masterfully mixed with mystical horror of 2017's Terrified - which Forte contributed to - and once you add a dash of slapstick gore and a whole lot of heart, and you have Legions of fun!

Legions Trailer: Argentine Horror Flick on VOD January 19th
Image
Fabian Forte's Legions is coming to VOD on January 19th. The distributor XYZ Films has just released their trailer for the flick, which really pushes an Evil Dead angle here. I'm not saying that it isn't there but I came out of watching Legions last year with a different reaction. There is dry humor, comedic elements and characters in the institution that made me think that the iconic Spanish director Álex de la Iglesia is definitely an influence here. While I would never consider myself an Iglesia authority I’ve seen enough to pick up on his matter of fact delivery style to notice its influence here. A pair of innocents in the asylum, Roberto y Pedro, along with Olga, who fancies herself still capable...

After opening in Argentina just last month, the film will be arriving in the US to watch on VOD later in January. The forces of evil descend on Argentina. Written and directed by Fabián Forte, this Argentinian folk-horror film stars Germán de Silva, Ezequiel Rodriguez, and Lorena Vega. Welcome to Chippendales Review: Hulu’s New Pam & Tommy
Image
“You can’t make an American dream omelette without breaking a few eggs,” a character muses at one point in Hulu’s new true crime saga, Welcome to Chippendales. The man who hears those words, Somen ‘Steve’ Banerjee (Kumail Nanjiani), indeed managed to live his American dream for a while, but unfortunately when he broke all his eggs, he was left eating a really shitty omelette.

Luckily, Welcome to Chippendales is a more satisfying meal for the most part. Following up his success with Pam & Tommy on Hulu, creator Robert Siegel is back at it on the streamer with a new tale of greed and strife based on the book Deadly Dance: The Chippendales Murders by K. Scot Macdonald and Patrick MontesDeOca, and he brings together yet another stellar cast for this fresh-but-murky American crime story following the rise and fall of Chippendales creator Banerjee, who struck gold with the...

With a promised release date in early 2023, Warner Bros. has finally released the first official Legion of Super-Heroes trailer, giving a proper look at the next Tomorrowverse feature. The footage gives a massive look at Kara Zor-El coming to the Legion Academy, which exists in the 31st century. While Supergirl befriends several Legion of Super-Heroes members, Batman labels her a...

An Original X-Men Member Just Got His Darkest 'Upgrade' Ever
Image
Warning: Contains spoilers for Legion of X #7Warren Worthington III debuted as the winged mutant hero Angel, one of the five original members of the X-Men, and although he has been through several brutal transformations over his long publication history, the recent Legion of X #7 has introduced his most horrifying, bestial form yet.

First introduced in 1963's The X-Men #1 - created by legends Stan Lee and Jack Kirby - Warren Worthington III is the handsome heir to the vast Worthington fortune, and has operated as a core member of the X-Men or one of their offshoot groups since his debut. While Angel is typically viewed as an immensely heroic character, after the then-villain Apocalypse got his hands on him in 1987 and turned him into his Horseman of Death, Warren was transformed into the murderous, blue-skinned "Archangel." This monstrous identity has returned several times and plagued Warren since his initial transformation,...

Netflix, HBO Max Swoop on Streaming Rights to ‘History of the Occult’ (Exclusive)

In a series of key pacts for Argentine political horror pic, “History of the Occult,” Netflix has snapped up streaming rights to the film for Spain and Latin America, which it plans to drop on Oct. 15, while WarnerMedia’s HBO Max has scooped up all Central European streaming rights.

In addition, Eurozoom took all French rights and plans a first quarter 2022 theatrical release, said Guido Rud, CEO of Buenos Aires-based sales and production company FilmSharks International.

“We believe that high concept horror is hard to find, and high concept with amazing scripts, almost impossible. But miracles happen and we are lucky that we know the right buyers who have the skills and foresight to recognize these gems when we do,” said Rud.

FilmSharks picked up worldwide and remake rights to the genre pic last May. A major U.S. genre producer is eyeing it for a remake, which FilmSharks subsidiary,...
