Even though Halloween fever is currently on everyone's minds (and rightly so), after it passes, the holidays will be right around the corner. Might as well start your planning so that they're as full of mayhem as they are mirth, and Bloody Christmas looks to be a great starting point!

In the grand tradition of holiday horrors (Halloween, April Fool's Day, Happy Birthday to Me) comes Bloody Christmas, a new film from Long Island filmmaker Michael Shershenovich, available via Planetworks and Mvd on October 23rd. The film offers a unique experience by shying away from a typical slasher and drifting into stylish cinematography, all while not taking the subject matter too seriously.

If we count his first three short films made on shoestring budgets between 1976 and 1983 as a trilogy, and his next, Distant Voices, Still Lives, as a diptych (they were actually made separately), Terence Davies has directed a mere seven films in 35 years. This puts him in the same exclusive league for low output and high quality as his contemporary, Terrence Malick. Davies's last film, Of Time and the City (2008), was a withering documentary about the sad decline of his hometown, Liverpool, and it followed two feature pictures adapted from American novels set at different times and in different American milieux, John Kennedy Toole's The Neon Bible and Edith Wharton's The House of Mirth.

The first clip from Terence Davies’ The Deep Blue Sea, a film we had a chance to see at Tiff, is now online. Set to Jo Stafford‘s version of “You Belong To Me,” the brief scene is a romantic look at Rachel Weisz, dancing with Tom Hiddleston. Dave Robson gave the film a very positive review stating, “Fans of Terence Rattigan’s original play certainly shouldn’t fear a garish adaptation. The original is sensational, and Davies leaves it largely intact. Rattigan’s words are wonderful and any director would be lucky to have them. The dialogue he weaves into his plays is complex, at times subtle, and puts everything just so delicately. That’s all made it into the film. Davies version isn’t dumbed down for export, either—if you don’t understand what is meant by a “milk-in-first sort of person,” that’s a shame”. Here is the clip.

The latest promo for FX’s American Horror Story trots out a set of bloody twin boys and a menacing neighbor girl who doesn’t so much borrow cups of sugar but deliver heaping spoonfuls of doomsaying.

Also, citing the chiller-thriller’s pedigree — Glee executive producers Ryan Murphy and Brad Falchuk — the teaser promises to have you “singing a different tune,” as it then cues up the whimsical (yet unsettling, once you see its context within the pilot) ditty “Tonight You Belong to Me.”

It was recently announced that English director Terence Davies’ The Deep Blue Sea would be closing this year’s BFI London Film Festival, to go hand in hand with another film that Rachel Weisz is starring in, 360, which will be opening the festival on 12th October.

A lovely first clip from the film has now surfaced, The Playlist report, and it gives a great feel of the beautiful moments we can expect from the film ahead of its November release here.

“Set in post-war Britain, this deeply moving story is an adaptation of Terence Rattigan’s classic play, The Deep Blue Sea is a study of forbidden love, suppressed desire, and the fear of loneliness. Stuck between the devil and the deep blue sea, what – or whom – should Hester choose?”

It doesn’t give anything away but a taste, leaving you wanting more, which is always good for a clip to do.

On June 28th, Eagle Rock Entertainment released The Doobie Brothers "Live at the Greek Theatre 1982" as both a remastered album and as a DVD featuring the taped concert of their "Farewell Tour". The DVD features five bonus songs cut from the original version of the concert's film. Does that excite you? Save for maybe the year 1982, there's not a single thing about the following phrase that isn't pretty damn great: The Doobie Brothers "Live at the Greek Theatre 1982". The Doobie Brothers gave us such hits as "Listen to the Music", "Black Water", "Out on the Streets" and "You Belong to Me". Live albums feature new takes on old classics and prove whether or not a rock group sound great without a soundboard remixing them (which the Doobie Brothers do). The Greek Theatre was the venue for those huge shows that could define the live performance careers of any musician that took the stage.

On June 28, Eagle Rock Entertainment will release The Doobie Brothers Live At The Greek Theatre 1982 on DVD, the show from the final date of the farewell tour of hometown heroes The Doobie Brothers. The DVD will carry a list price $14.98.

Eagle Rock will also release an audio CD of the show for $13.98.

The performance included a couple of surprises: For starters, Doobies co-founder joined the band for the final two songs. Additionally, for the performance of “Listen to the Music” (the band’s biggest hit), original Doobies drummer John Hartman joined the band, as did former members Tiran Porter and Michael Hossack.

But, as this is rock’n’roll, the Greek Theatre gig was Not the last time the Doobie Brothers performed on stage as the band pulled it together for another tour five years later.

Sometimes an album title tells you everything you need to know about a project. Such is the case with Eddie Vedder’s new set, “Ukulele Songs.” Out May 31 on Pearl Jam’s own Monkeywrench Records, Pj’s frontman will release a collection of originals and covers performed by him on the ukulele. First single, “Longing to Belong” proves these are hardly cheesy uke tracks like “Tiptoe Through the Tulips” (Although how awesome would that have been to hear?) Eddie Vedder is back. And this time he’s packing a ukulele.

The front man of the rock band Pearl Jam plans to release a solo album on May 31 called “Ukulele Songs.” The album will feature original songs and covers performed by Vedder on the ukulele. One of the songs, “Longing to Belong,” is out right now.

Taylor Swift may want to go "Back to December," but November has been kind to the singer. Not only has her LP Speak Now stayed at the top of the Billboard albums chart, but on Tuesday night the 20-year-old country-pop chanteuse was honored with the country songwriter of the year prize at the Bmi Awards in Nashville.

Swift became the youngest recipient of the prize, telling the crowd, "It's been a really emotional week for me." And while this week has been filled with highs, it has also had its share of lows as she attended the funeral of a friend on Monday. She added, "He was 21, and I used to play my songs for him first."

Back in late June 2007 at Frameline31, one of my favorite films was Sam Zalutsky’s first feature You Belong To Me, a suspenseful Polanski-style thriller with dark Hitchcockian overtones. As Pam Grady wrote for the Frameline program, this tale of gay obsession morphed into something quite unexpected as the protagonist Jeffrey (Daniel Sauli)—smitten with a one-night stand—stalks the fellow to his apartment building and rents a vacant unit in the building in hopes of getting closer to him. That’s creepy enough in itself; but, it soon becomes apparent that “the rot eating at his hardwood floors is symbolic of an evil infecting the entire address.” With classic indirection, the film starts off with one story and skillfully warps into another.
