A few weeks ago, Variety reported that Paramount’s Republic Pictures had acquired the distribution rights to the serial killer horror thriller Vindicta and were planning to release the film sometime in October. Now a trailer for the film has arrived online (you can watch it in the embed above), and along with the trailer comes details on Paramount Global Content Distribution’s release plans: Vindicta will be reaching select theatres and will be available to buy on digital as of October 6th.

Starring Elena Kampouris of the most recent Children of the Corn movie, Sean Astin (The Goonies), and Jeremy Piven (Judgment Night), Vindicta has the following synopsis: When a city is terrorized by a sadistic serial killer, a seasoned detective and a newly recruited paramedic are forced into a deadly game of vengeance, only to discover the key to stopping the bloodshed lies in unlocking the truth of their own haunted pasts.

What Happened to Monday? has begun production in Romania; new cast additions include Kon-Tiki’s Pal Sverre Hagen.

Willem Dafoe (The Grand Budapest Hotel) has joined Noomi Rapace and Glenn Close in sci-fi thriller What Happened to Monday?, which began principal photography at the Castel Film Studios in Bucharest on July 23 .

Tommy Wirkola (Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters) directs the feature, which is produced by Vendome Pictures and Raffaella Productions and fully financed by Snd, which will handle French distribution rights as well as international sales.

New additional cast includes Marwan Kenzari (Accused, Reckless), Christian Rubeck (Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters) and Pal Sverre Hagen (Kon-Tiki).

Set in a world where families are allowed only one child due to overpopulation, a resourceful set of seven identical sisters must avoid governmental execution and dangerous infighting while investigating the disappearance of one of their own.

Originally announced way back in 2008, Robosapien has had a long gestation period and has gone through numerous re-titles (including Cody the Robosapien and Robosapien: Rebooted) since being filmed in New Orleans some 5 years ago. Helmed by longtime kids TV director Sean McNamara (Even Stevens, That’s So Raven, Bratz), the film is a family-friendly adventure film with a heart, the type of movie which rarely gets made outside of the TV movie arena these days…

The film is based (loosely) on Wow Wee’s robotic toy of the same name, and tells the story of an inventor working for Kinetech Labs who designs a robot for search and rescue missions that has the ability to mimic human actions and emotions.

Toronto-based Starz, LLC, President and CEO Chris Albrecht reports the company has now completed a transaction resulting in a Canadian investor group purchasing a majority stake in Starz Animation Toronto.

Starz, LLC has retained an equity stake in the company and will continue to support the studio.

"Starz is turning its primary focus more toward globally appealing live action TV programming, " said Albrecht, "and we are confident that the best way for the animation studio to continue its growth is to go forward under Canadian majority ownership."

Media/marketing executive J. Thomas Murray and executive producer Steven B. Hecht lead the Canadian buying group, planning to support the current productions/business development at the studio, while utilizing Starz Animation Toronto as the foundation of a multimedia business.

Sony has announced that they will be bringing a computer animated adaptation of Popeye to the big screen in 3D. The film will be released under the Sony Pictures Animation label, with Sony Pictures ImageWorks handling the computer animation. The real-look Popeye image above is probably far too scary for the animated film adaptation, but I'd much rather see a film featuring the character design of Rick Baker. At least that might be interesting. Producer Avi Arad, who use to be attached to huge films like Spider-Man, has found himself more recently attached to films like Robosapien: Rebooted and the Bratz movie. Looks like that departure from Marvel really worked out for him. Former Variety writer Mike Jones, who was laid off from the Hollywood trade paper a year ago, is in talks to script the adaptation. Actress Penelope Ann Miller, whose movie credits include 'Carlito's Way,' 'The Freshman' and 'Kindergarten Cop,' has given birth to her second daughter. The baby, Maria Adela Huggins, was born March 23 in Los Angeles, People magazine quotes Miller's manager as saying. The 45-year-old actress has another daughter, eight-year-old Eloisa May, with husband James Huggins. Crystal Sky Pictures, via Slash Film, has posted the first poster and full synopsis for their upcoming Robosapien: Rebooted. The film is based on the popular toy of the same name. The flick is being produced by head Marvel Studios honcho Avi Arad and directed by Sean McNamara (Bratz, Raise Your Voice). Bobby Coleman will play a boy who befriends a robot on the run from malevolent corporate interests in Robosapien: Rebooted, which has begun filming in New Orleans.

The cast also includes Penelope Ann Miller, David Eigenberg, Holliston Coleman, Joaquim de Almeida and Kim Coates.

Avi Arad and Steven Paul are producing the movie, based on Wow Wee's Robosapien remote-controlled robot, under their respective Arad Prods. and Crystal Sky Pictures banners.

Senn McNamara (Bratz) is directing the script by Arad and Max Botkin from Botkin's story.
