In 2013 Peter Jackson announced that he would direct the sequel once he had finished The Hobbit trilogy (which would be 2015). Jackson, however, went on to direct the documentary feature They Shall Not Grow Old and produce the fantasy epic Mortal Engines, which were released in 2018.
In a late 2018 interview with Polygon, Jackson reiterated his intention to direct a Tintin sequel, but played down his progress, claiming there wasn't even a decision on which book he would be adapting. Tintin 2 was firmly back to square one. Jackson hoped to knuckle down on Tintin in 2019, but that year he announced and began working on a Beatles documentary, and nothing has been said regarding Hergé's Belgian reporter since.
In short, the project hasn't been officially abandoned (yet), but it's unclear if the sequels are still going to happen. Steven Spielberg is still on board to produce the second installment and co-direct the third installment together with Jackson-as has always been the plan-but the ball seems to have been in Jackson's court for the past 11 years.
