‘He Sees You When You’re Sleeping’ VOD Review
Image
Stars: Will Pealer Jr., Scot Scurlock, Nick Nichols, David Lenik, Nellie Spackman, Caroline Williams, Cedric Gegel, Natalie Veater, Peyton Michelle Edwards | Written by David Lenik | Directed by Charlie Steeds

He Sees You When You’re Sleeping is the most recent film from prolific British director Charlie Steeds who caps off a busy year with his first venture into Ho Ho Ho Horror, something I’m surprised it’s taken him so long to get around to.

On Christmas Eve, 1963 young Chester (Will Pealer Jr.) is told a bedtime story about Santa on a killing spree by his Uncle Nick. It proves to be an omen as later that night serial killer Henry Bates (Nick Nichols) escapes from the asylum and makes his way to Copper Grove where he slaughters the Van Buren family, leaving only one survivor.

Seventeen years and a lot of therapy later, Chester returns to Copper Grove. With...

‘Founders Day’ Review
Image
Stars: Olivia Nikkanen, Naomi Grace, Jayce Bartok, Devin Druid, Emilia McCarthy, Amy Hargreaves, Catherine Curtin | Written by Erik Bloomquist, Carson Bloomquist | Directed by Erik Bloomquist

The Bloomquist brothers, director Erik and co-writer Carson are back with their second film this year, following up their summer camp horror She Came from the Woods with Founders Day. Billed as a political slasher has an interesting history to it. The original concept dates back to 2011, and a script that was considered for inclusion in Project Greenlight. They even made a conceptual trailer for it before the project collapsed. And what better time to revive it than now in a time of political division and violence?

In the town of Fairwood, two things are fast approaching, its 300th anniversary and the election of its next mayor. The race is a contentious one, the first image we see is of a campaign sign being destroyed.

Political Slasher Horror 'Founders Day' Teaser feat. Amy Hargreaves
Image
"Let's all go to the lobby!" And get some snacks for the horror show today. Dark Sky Films has unveiled the first teaser trailer for an indie horror film coming to theaters in January called Founders Day, self-labeled a "political slasher". It has already been playing at genre film festivals this fall, starting at Popcorn Frights Film Festival along with FrightFest London and the Toronto After Dark Film Festival. Now it's set to play on the big screen in a few months from now. The newest genre title from the Bloomquist Brothers marks the reunion of 13 Reasons Why duo Devin Druid and Amy Hargreaves, who join an ensemble cast including Naomi Grace, William Russ, Catherine Curtin, Emilia McCarthy, and Olivia Nikkanen. In the film, a small town is shaken by a series of ominous killings in the days leading up to a heated Mayoral election. Another masked killer thriller with freaky twists and crazy characters,...

‘She Came from the Woods’ Exclusive Posters: 1980s Slasher Throwback Comes to Tubi This Weekend
Image
Director Erik Bloomquist (Ten Minutes to Midnight, Long Lost) is back with slasher throwback She Came from the Woods, which is headed home this weekend.

After being released in theaters earlier this year, She Came from the Woods is now slashing its way onto Tubi on Saturday, June 10. Check out a gallery of exclusive character posters below, along with the previously released trailer for the 1980s-style summer camp slasher.

In She Came from the Woods, “A group of counselors unleashes a decades-old evil, long buried secrets, and bloody mayhem on the last night of summer camp in 1987.”

Matt Donato wrote in his review for Bloody Disgusting, “Even as a warmup act to the heavy hitters worshiped by slasher fans since the dawn of internet forums, She Came from the Woods stands its ground as an example of how no subgenre is dead with the proper approach.”

She Came from the...

Caroline Williams, William Youmans, Nicholas Tucci, Adam Weppler, and Nicole Kang in Ten Minutes to Midnight (2020)
Nightmare Radio: The Night Stalker - Jennie Kermode - 18328
Caroline Williams, William Youmans, Nicholas Tucci, Adam Weppler, and Nicole Kang in Ten Minutes to Midnight (2020)
In a little booth in an otherwise deserted radio station, DJ Candy (Paula Brasca) takes her listeners through the night. It's quiet, the lights are low and the ghosts of other films flit by. Viewers might think of 2020’s punchy Ten Minutes To Midnight or last year’s multi-award winning short The Lone Wolf. There are similarities to both, though this scenario is neither as incisive nor as entertaining. Its primary function is as a wraparound for a mixed bunch of short films on horror related themes. Listeners call the station to share their scary stories. Candy is disinclined to give them much credence; the danger is that viewers will agree with her.

The film’s scariest scene comes at the very start of the first short: the very real nightmare of a woman spilling coffee on her laptop. It’s one moment in a life full of small aggravations.

Erik Bloomquist's horror flick, She Came From The Woods, is in cinemas today and we have a clip to share with you in case you need any more coaxing to check it out. The horror film, releasing only in theaters on February 10th, stars Cara Buono (Stranger Things), William Sadler (Bill & Ted’s Bogus Journey), Spencer List (Fringe), and Clare Foley (Sinister). She Came From The Woods - Jennie Kermode - 18171
Erik Bloomquist
Summer camp: a place where generations of American children have had their first independent adventures, and where the slasher genre drew its first breath. It’s a liminal place, where strictly regulated civilisation exists on the edge of the deep, dark woods, and the perfect setting for a genre in which extreme violence exists side by side with comedy – in which we dare to laugh at death even as we watch characters who got into trouble by doing precisely that. Slasher movie fans are always ready to return to those bloody teenage days, and so are the filmmakers who grew up watching that stuff. Erik Bloomquist, who is best known for his acting but has made significant breakthroughs as a horror director with Ten Minutes To Midnight and A Night At The Eagle Inn, is no exception, and here he seeks to place his own stamp on the subgenre.

She Came.

Watch the Trailer for She Came From The Woods
Image
In his Frightfest review, James Doherty wrote that She Came from the Woods is a "fun and entertaining campfire tale," and as someone who saw the movie as part of last year's Popcorn Frights Film Festival lineup, I can concur that the latest film from director Erik Bloomquist (Ten Minutes to Midnight) definitely scratches that summer camp slasher itch. Ahead of the film's February 10th theatrical release from Mainframe Pictures, the official trailer has now been released, giving viewers a look at the horrors unleashed at Camp Briarbrook, set fittingly to the tune of Kim Wilde's ’80s anthem "Kids in America."

Theatrical Release Date: February 10, 2023

‘Night at the Eagle Inn’ VOD Review
Image
Stars: Amelia Dudley, Taylor Turner, Greg Schweers, Beau Minniear, Erik Bloomquist | Written by Erik Bloomquist, Carson Bloomquist | Directed by Erik Bloomquist

Night at the Eagle Inn is the latest film from Erik and Carson Bloomquist. We’ve been following these filmmakers since way back in 2015 and their first short film The Cobblestone Corridor. Since then they’ve released films like Long Lost and Ten Minutes to Midnight; and now the pair have one of the most anticipated films on last year’s festival circuit making its digital debut in the UK, Ireland, Australia and New Zealand. Since the only thing harder than making a hit film is making another one, the question is, can they keep their streak alive?

Sarah Moss and her twin brother Spencer (Taylor Turner; Lillith) are on a mission to solve a dark mystery from their past. They were born prematurely, their mother died during childbirth.

Erik Bloomquist and Peyton Michelle Edwards in Weekenders (2021)
Four People in One AirBnb! Official Trailer for 'Weekenders' Dramedy
Erik Bloomquist and Peyton Michelle Edwards in Weekenders (2021)
"Who do you think is hiding something?" Mainframe Pictures has released the official trailer for an indie dramedy titled Weekenders, the latest sweet & honest film from Ten Minutes to Midnight director Erik Bloomquist. This is debuting in theaters (!!) around the US this weekend, just in time for Valentine's Day. A scheduling mix-up at an Airbnb brings four twenty-somethings together, each navigating the open waters of where, how, and with whom they're supposed to be. As their long weekend progresses, the foursome is forced to contemplate their collective baggage, the value of prioritizing connection over convenience, and what happens when they all go home. Bloomquist wrote, directed and stars. The cast also features Peyton Michelle Edwards, Ehad Berisha, and Maggie McMeans. This looks like some amusing hipstercore (a cousin of mumblecore) about these youngsters trying to figure themselves out. Seems light & easy to enjoy. Here's the first official trailer (+ poster) for Erik Bloomquist's Weekenders,...

Review: Ten Minutes To Midnight Transforms into a Thought-Provoking Contemplation of Life, Death, and the Gray Area In Between
Image
“Hired to be fired.” That’s what radio DJ Amy Marlowe (Caroline Williams) tells her boss (William Youmans) one rainy night before her show… her final show at Wlst Radio, to be exact, as she’s getting the proverbial boot to make room for young up-and-comer Sienna (Nicole Kang). Amy knows that 30 years at one radio station is a damn good run for any DJ, but that doesn’t make leaving any easier. There’s the lack of respect (and sexual harassment) from her superior, the audacity to be asked to have Sienna shadow her on her last day, the fear of a forced major life change, and then there’s that pesky bite on Amy’s neck that isn’t helping matters, either, especially since it may have come from a bat with rabies… or something much, much worse.

Such is the setup for Erik Bloomquist’s Ten Minutes to Midnight,...

Very sad news is coming in for us to pass along today as horror genre star Nicholas Tucci, best known for his roles in the slasher movie You're Next and the Syfy series Channel Zero, has reportedly passed away. The actor's passing was confirmed by his father with a post on Tucci's official Facebook account, revealing Tucci had died at the age of 38 at the Smilow Cancer Hospital in New Haven, Connecticut on Tuesday. "Nick chose to keep his illness private so that he could continue to pursue his professional and artistic dreams for as long as possible. In the last year, he was able to audition, go on location, and continue the work he loved so much," the post reads.

It's also made clear in the message that Tucci had a lot of love and support from his colleagues and fans when he was here, and that hasn't gone unnoticed by the Tucci family.
