This movie in no way fits all of the positive reviews on here. People said it was intelligent, unpredictable, thrilling. It is none of those things. The characters are so ridiculous that it's impossible to take them seriously or be scared by the villains. Not to mention it's about a half hour longer than it needs to be. Even the good cinematography can't make up for the horrible storyline and pretentiously written dialogue. This movie does nothing new, we've seen it all a million times. I wanted to turn this movie off 15 mins in, but I paid for it and wanted to get my money's worth so I suffered through the whole thing. I am begging you not to watch this movie.
I'm not impressed with this one. I generally love horror movies where you know something is off but you can't quite put your finger on it. I like movies where the tension builds slowly until it reaches some unforeseen end. Unfortunately, the subtlety required to pull off that kind of movie was missing entirely in this one because the characters were over the top. They were caricatures rather than characters. It is so obvious that something strange is going on that you're not surprised when everything goes to hell. And the ending is cheesy. It's too bad. It's an interesting story and it could have been a good film had it been done right.
I had this saved on my Amazon next movies to watch this and it was late I didn't want to really put it on because of the 2 hour length but decided to anyways and for the first 30 minutes or so there is not really any indication of what is gonna happen but there is an evilness under with how strange and decadent the hosts are acting towards the couple the entire time telling stories that have no significance to the plot and drags on forever with not much happening but evenbefore that its kind of clear the direction this is going with the talk of eating human livers and then eventually the evil hosts make their move which was of no surprise at all and its the typical set of events that take place in these kinds films but without the build up or twists and the ending was kinda of unneeded and taking it too far pointless so overall I wouldn't recommend this way too long for no reason when nothing happens and a lot of useless dialouge.
I would recommend the 2015 film that is on netflix called the invitation much better than this in every way.

I really tried to like this movie and stayed until the end but I was utterly dissapointed...the story had good potential and the gory bloody scenes should have been better but it wasn't and also I find the actors really a bit bland even the lead actress...well anyways, I gave it a 4/10 because I stayed until the end...had it been a better ending I would have given a +1 on it.
