Courtney A. Kemp has nabbed her first series greenlight under her overall deal with Netflix.
Variety has learned that Netflix has ordered the drama series “Nemesis,” which is co-created by Kemp and Tani Marole in his series writing debut. The official logline for the series states:
“‘Nemesis’ is the story of two men on either side of the law, the tale of what happens when an unstoppable force (an expert criminal) meets an immovable object (a brilliant police detective). What starts as a series that aims to subvert the heist genre at every turn, amped with thrilling life-or-death stakes, family dynamics and explosive action, actually gives birth to an exploration of what drives us, sustains us, and ultimately destroys us.”
“Tani and I are excited to bring a hard-hitting psychological crime drama to Netflix, specific in location, but broad in universal themes of right and wrong, love and loss, and loyalty vs self-preservation,...

In the first episode of Daredevil: Born Again on Disney+, Karen Page (Deborah Ann Woll) teases best friends Matt Murdock (Charlie Cox) and Foggy Nelson (Elden Henson) about their tendency to indulge in nostalgia for the pre-gentrification days of Hell’s Kitchen. “Not nostalgia,” Foggy insists. “Reverence for the past, yet hope for the future.”

Did you know there was once a Marvel show all about containing demons? While Marvel Studios might be more widely known for superheroes, its overall franchise has consistently been at its best creatively when it plays with other genres, particularly comedy and horror. Before projects like Moon Knight, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, and Werewolf by Night challenged the definition of what the MCU was capable of, one Marvel television show about two spooky siblings flew right under the supernatural horror radar and, today, deserves cult classic treatment: Helstrom, from creator Paul Zbyszewski.

Marvel Television produced TV shows like Daredevil, The Punisher, Runaways, and Cloak & Dagger independently of Marvel Studios. However, when Disney+ launched, Netflix ended its partnership and Kevin Feige was given full control over everything.
One by one, series like the ones listed above were cancelled. Fans weren't too upset given the hit-and-miss nature of the Jeph Loeb-led projects but saying goodbye to the world of the Defenders felt like a major loss.
Marvel Studios gave Charlie Cox a second chance at playing Matt Murdock with small roles in Spider-Man: No Way Home and She-Hulk: Attorney at Law. Daredevil: Born Again soon received the green light but was meant to be a reboot that largely moved on from Netflix's Daredevil.
"Season 3 had been well received and they had already gone to work on season 4," Cox tells Entertainment Weekly. "They'd pitched me a really cool arc for the season. My...

"Welcome to the MCU. You're joining at a bit of a low point," says the Merc with the Mouth aka Wade Wilson (Ryan Reynolds) in "Deadpool & Wolverine." He's not wrong. Most would agree the Marvel Cinematic Universe suffered a drop-off in quality in the aftermath of "Avengers: Endgame," with some of the franchise's Disney+ series, in particular, being met with immense criticism. Admittedly, some of that stemmed from a toxic fandom that just couldn't abide by, say, the visual of Jennifer Walters aka She-Hulk (Tatiana Maslany) twerking with Megan Thee Stallion in "She-Hulk: Attorney at Law." However, the lowest rated MCU Disney+ show on Rotten Tomatoes is one that just about everyone agrees would be better forgotten.

New photos have been released giving viewers a glimpse into Paramount+'s Rosemary's Baby prequel, Apartment 7A, directed by Natalie Erika James and starring Julia Gardner.
These pictures bring us back into the world of the controversial director Roman Polanski's beloved horror classic, Rosemary's Baby. While rooted in the anxieties of the 60s, the original film remains timeless in its terrifying examination of religion. This new film by director Natalie Erika James--co-written by her alongside Christian White and Skylar James--looks back to days past in an eerie throwback to the 60s, exploring the titular apartment before Rosemary came to shake things up. The photos featured in an article by Empire show sickly yellow lighting and hazy shadows cast over period-accurate sets and clothing. Deep-cut fans of Marvel Comics have likely begun several pertinent conversations with the following question: if you could adapt any Marvel character, no matter how obscure, into a live-action feature film, which one would you choose? These conversations were mostly held during the 2010s heyday of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, when most of the company's star characters had already been given the cinematic treatment. Spider-Man, The Fantastic Four, X-Men, and the Avengers were all taken, and even some more obscure characters, like the Guardians of the Galaxy, were being given the A-list polish, so Marvel fans had to get creative in their nerdy, self-indulgent postulations.
Personally, I have already written a treatment (which I sent to Marvel many years ago) for the obscure MarvelUK character Motormouth, a foul-mouthed punk rock teen (real name: Harley Davis) who finds a pair of magical sneakers that allow her to leap between dimensions. I...

The McU's new Marvel Television banner can learn some valuable lessons from mistakes in the previous Marvel Television's projects. The old Marvel Television shied away from comic-accurate costumes, reversed major MCU events, and wasted many brilliant minor characters. Mistakes from Marvel Television's past negatively impacted the MCU, so this should be avoided in the future.
Mistakes in Marvel Television's previous TV shows, released adjacent to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, can teach the new Marvel Television some valuable lessons. Long before Marvel Studios began producing its own TV shows for Disney+, Marvel Entertainment entrusted Marvel Television with developing series for various networks that expanded the world of the MCU significantly. In recent years, doubt has been cast on whether Marvel Television's previous projects are considered canon to the McU's main continuity, and this dispute has been exacerbated by the recent revival of the Marvel Television banner, which will now develop shows specifically set in the MCU.

Peyton Reed's 2023 superhero film "Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania" saw the title heroes (Paul Rudd and Evangeline Lilly), and a few compatriots, using an extraordinary sci-fi device to shrink down so infinitesimally small they enter a microscopic dimension called the Quantum Realm. In the Quantum Realm, they find a whole civilization of bizarre humanoid and non-humanoid creatures, as well as the evil rising empire of a villainous tyrant named Kang (the recently-fired Jonathan Majors). Kang had been imprisoned in the Quantum Realm, and if he can escape, he would cause mayhem in the normal-sized world. Howard the Duck's 50th anniversary special takes a satirical approach, exploring how he could be integrated into the Marvel Universe. The first story imagines what would've happened if Howard's presidential campaign had been successful, with greedy aliens profiting from conformist versions of superhero stories. The story also includes digs at Disney, who initially felt that Howard was too similar to Donald Duck, highlighting the conglomerate's trend of acquiring studios and IPs for profit.
Howard the Duck has always had a biting satirical bent, so it makes sense that his 50th anniversary special wouldn't pull any punches. Despite starring in the first ever Marvel theatrical movie, Howard has been relegated to cameo appearances and Easter eggs in the years since. That may be why the special's first "What If..." story goes straight for the McU's nonstop content machine.

Earlier this year, it was announced that New Line Cinema had come out the winner in a bidding war over the haunted house project Occupant, which would be based on a 39-page short story by new writer Victor Sweetser. Now that the writers strike has come to an end, The Hollywood Reporter has discovered that New Line Cinema and producer Zach Cregger, the writer/director of last year’s Barbarian (watch it Here), have found the writer who will flesh Sweetser’s story out into a screenplay: Blair Butler, a former writer and on-air personality for shows like Attack of the Show who has gone on to work on several genre films. Her previous writing credits include The Invitation (the vampire movie that starred Nathalie Emmanuel), Polaroid, and Hell Fest. Butler was also a producer on the Marvel-inspired TV series Helstrom.
The Occupant purchase was part of Cregger’s year-long winning streak.

But the way we formed this character is very different from what I think people expect."

Clark Gregg, the onetime front man for Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. — sorry, Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. — had to raise an eyebrow at a perceived slighting of the first contemporary live-action Marvel series.
In post-morteming the underperformance of recent IP-driven films, Disney CEO Bob Iger said this week at the annual Sun Valley Conference, “In our zeal to basically grow our content significantly to serve mostly our streaming offerings, we ended up taxing our people way beyond — in terms of their time and their focus — where they had been.

Before the age of epic Disney+ series set in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, like WandaVision and Secret Invasion, Marvel endeavored into the world of television on numerous occasions in an attempt to bring its comic properties to life. Infamously, Marvel didn't find much success in this medium at first.

Blade: The Series is one live-action superhero show audiences forgot existed almost immediately after it came out. Set in the same continuity as Wesley Snipes' Blade trilogy, the series attempted to continue the story of the titular vampire hunter. Still, it was promptly canceled after a single season consisting of 13 episodes.

As the MCU continues to expand the Multiverse in anticipation for Avengers: Secret Wars, Nicolas Cage’s Ghost Rider could come back into play, but there’s another who would work even better. Cage first played Johnny Blaze in 2007’s Ghost Rider and again in its 2011 sequel, Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance. This was before the rise of the MCU as it is known today. Intriguingly, there exists a deleted scene from Iron Man in which Nick Fury mentions Eric Bana’s Hulk, Spider-Man, and mutants as there was hope the MCU could incorporate them from the start. However, Ghost Rider was never considered among them.
It’s thanks for Spider-Man: No Way Home and its reintegration of both Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield’s Spider-Men that anyone is thinking there’s a chance that other heroes from non-mcu Marvel movies could reappear. Patrick Stewart reprised as Professor X in...

“Snowpiercer” is changing showrunners going into the show’s fourth season.
Paul Zbyszewski — whose past credits include “Lost,” “Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D” and “Helstrom” — will take the reins of the TNT series from Graeme Manson. Manson famously took over showrunning duties on the drama show after original series creator Josh Friedman and TNT parted ways over “creative differences” before Season 1.
In addition, “Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D” alum Clark Gregg and Michael Aronov are both joining the series in Season 4. The news comes the same day as the Season 3 finale. Production is now underway on Season 4.

With the arrival of Disney+, Marvel Television took a decidedly more mainstream turn. Gone were the more offbeat, second-tier, or downright bizarre offerings centered on characters that would likely never find their way to a big-screen feature film.. Instead, we suddenly got series like WandaVision, The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, and Loki, which not only focused on established figures from the MCU but also frequently tied directly back to the adventures taking place at the local multiplex.
This isn’t an entirely bad thing—after all, WandaVision was one of the best shows we saw on television last year—but it has meant we’ve had to say goodbye to many familiar properties in order to get there. George R.R. Martin sent a raven Wednesday with updates on his highly anticipated new projects on his blog.
The 73-year old fantasy author behind “Game of Thrones” (and creative contributor to the just-dropped “Elden Ring” video game) cast some light on the numerous “GoT” prequel series that are in the works. Perhaps more importantly to his O.G. fans, he confirmed that he is still plugging away at his long-delayed novel “The Winds of Winter,” the sixth of seven planned doorstopper books in the “A Song of Ice and Fire” series from which “Game of Thrones” and the entire Westeros mythos derives.
“Winds of Winter,” which was originally due to be published in 2016, is still coming, he says, but as a way of excusing himself for its absence, he wrote that Westeros is bigger than just one project now. But working in that world is his “number one priority,” he said.

On March 16 Disney+ will gain all six Marvel series produced for Netflix in their uncensored glory: “Daredevil,” “Jessica Jones,” “Luke Cage,” “Iron Fist,” “The Punisher,” and “The Defenders,” as well as the ABC series “Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.” To prepare for the incoming violence and profanity, Disney+ is asking its subscribers to update their parental controls settings.
It might be shocking to see Disney+ host The Punisher, an antihero who’s been known to vanquish his enemies with a sledgehammer, but that shift may signal something even more significant. Once upon a time, Disney+ was supposed to be the family-friendly streamer and Hulu its more mature and complex cousin. With R-rated content, Disney+ changes its branding barrier — and that may also reflect a change in Hulu’s future as a standalone streaming service.

It's hard to imagine a world of Marvel television series before Disney+ entered all of our lives, but yes, this mysterious time exists, and there were a lot of really wonderful shows that came out of it. Based on the Marvel comic of the same name, "Helstrom" was a series about siblings Daimon (Tom Austen) and Ana (Sydney Lemmon), the son and daughter of a mysterious and powerful serial killer. The duo's relationship is complicated, to say the least, but the two join forces to hunt down humanity's most despicable monsters and make sure they can't hurt anyone ever again.
