Roku easily outdid Wall Street analysts’ consensus forecast in the third quarter, delivering a 16% jump in revenue to $1.06 billion and narrowing its loss per share to 6 cents.
It was the first quarter the company exceeded $1 billion in revenue. Platform revenue, the dominant category that includes advertising, increased 15% over the year-ago quarter to hit $908 million. The company does not break out advertising as its own line item.
Analysts had expected a loss of 32 cents a share (compared with a loss of $2.33 in the year-ago period) and revenue of $1.02 billion.
In its quarterly letter to shareholders, the company signaled a change in its reporting protocol, with the number of active households no longer being reported on a regular basis. From time to time, Roku said it would disclose key milestones, such as reaching 100 million global households, a threshold it expects to reach in the next 12 to 18 months. We’ll make a return to Panem in 2026 as Lionsgate announces a new Hunger Games film. More on the story below.
Last year’s The Hunger Games: Ballad Of Songbirds And Snakes was a welcome return to the world of Panem and introduced us to a much younger Coriolanus Snow, far before he became the villain we saw in the original four films.
The film grossed over $330 million at the global box office against a budget of $100m, making it successful enough for Lionsgate to consider a sequel – and one has just materialised.
It was announced yesterday that author Suzanne Collins is due to release a new Hunger Games book, titled Sunrise On The Reaping, in 2025, and Lionsgate announced a film adaptation would follow in 2026.
The book will take place 40 years after the events of Ballad Of Songbirds And Snakes and will feature the Second Quarter Quell.

Match #1: Kiana James & Izzi Dame def. Fallon Henley & Kelani Jordan The following is courtesy of wwe.com:
Fallon Henley and Kelani Jordan paired up once again to take on the conniving Kiana James and Izzi Dame in tag team action after the four Superstars clashed at Stand & Deliver. Henley and Jordan rode that momentum from Saturday afternoon early on, but the size and strength of Dame flipped the script and allowed herself and Kiana to gain full control. Jordan ended up finding herself in the cross hairs of Dame, but Henley saved her from a big boot, however it allowed James to hit 401K to score the victory for her team.
My Score: 2.5 out of 5 Match #2: Je’Von Evans def. Scrypts The following is courtesy of wwe.

Warner Bros. Discovery Adds 1.6 Million Global Streaming Customers; Nearly All From BluTV Acqusition
Wbd’s domestic streaming subscribers have been declining for three-straight quarters, while growth comes from international acquisitions.
Warner Bros. Discovery is usually one of the last media companies to report its quarterly earnings, and that remained the case for the final quarter of 2023. Wbd’s representatives met with Wall Street analysts via conference call on Friday to discuss its fourth quarter 2023 earnings report. Wbd revealed it had gained 1.6 million streaming subscribers, bringing its new total to 97.7 million.
Domestically, however, Wbd saw a decline of 600,000 customers, the third-straight quarter of subscriber losses. The company no longer reveals individual subscriber totals for Max and discovery+, but year-over-year, Wbd’s United States-based streamers have dropped 2.6 million subscribers while the company has added 1.6M overall.

Lionsgate posted better-than-expected earnings in its fiscal third quarter, even as the dual strikes of 2023 took a bite out of its television business.
The company, which is poised to split into two separate publicly traded entities in the coming months, reported adjusted earnings per share of 27 cents in the quarter ended December 31. That was well ahead of Wall Street analysts’ consensus forecast of 21 cents. Total revenue of $975.1 million, though, came up a bit short of forecasts and was down slightly from $1 billion in the year-ago period.
The motion picture division anchored the overall quarter, with revenue shooting up 53% over the prior-year period to hit $443.2 million and profit up 31% to $100.4 million.
The key element in the film division’s quarter was The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes, which has taken in nearly $340 million at the box office since its release last November. The arrival of the new installment...

Disney’s fiscal fourth quarter of 2023 was a critical one for the company. The company unveiled its first quarter 2024 earnings on Feb. 7 — Disney’s corporate calendar puts it three months ahead of most other companies — and the report showed that Disney+ had lost 1.3 million subscribers, putting its new total at 149.6 million.

Streaming losses narrowed by $300 million from the prior quarter and will be profitable in the fourth quarter of its fiscal 2024 (ending in September). Disney had previously promised profits sometime this year but a confirmation was very welcome.

Katniss Everdeen watched several District tributes die during both her times in the arena in The Hunger Games, but she was especially impacted by the death of Cecelia in the Quarter Quell. This was a minor character who was only briefly shown on screen in the Hunger Games movies. In truth, she wasn't even featured much more in the books. However, her death represented something personal for Katniss - and the devastating impact President Snow's Quarter Quell had on the people of the Districts.
In the Hunger Games books, Katniss and Peeta watched the reapings of the other District tributes before the Quarter Quell in Catching Fire. There were so many that Katniss couldn't hope to remember them all, but some stood out to her. Since the 75th Hunger Games selected tributes from each District's existing pool of victors, it was the first Games in history that didn't only include children.

Activist investor Nelson Peltz has named his target in his attempt to get a seat on Disney’s board.
Peltz, CEO of Trian Fund Management, is asking Disney shareholders to vote him onto the seat held since 2018 by Mastercard executive Michael B.G. Froman.
Peltz submitted a proxy statement asking shareholders to withhold their votes for Froman and instead vote for him to take a role in directing the House of Mouse’s future.
Trian, which owns about 9.4 million shares of Disney, is campaigning to “Restore the Magic” through the proxy fight, following a multiyear decline in the stock price.
But in an open letter to shareholders accompanying the proxy, Trian noted that Disney lost over 120 billion in market value in 2022 as its shares slumped 44, and that earnings per share have declined by 50 since 2018 despite a 41 leap in revenue as costs have “ballooned,” leading Disney to eliminate its dividend, which...

Paris-based sales outfit Totem Films has boarded the new, as-yet-untitled project from “And Then We Danced” director Levan Akin, which has just wrapped shooting in Istanbul. Totem will present the film to buyers at next month’s European Film Market in Berlin.

Akin said of the project: “My whole life, Istanbul and its inhabitants have held a special place in my heart, and I’m very excited to soon be able to share this world and its unique spaces with an audience.”
Totem Films said: “Levan perfectly knows how to capture genuine atmospheres and characters. We launched Totem in Cannes 2019 with ‘And Then We Danced.’ What a joy to continue our collaboration with this tribe!”
