Get those engines running action fans, because we now have our first look at Duster, the new Max original series created by J.J. Abrams and Latoya Morgan that stars beloved Lost actor Josh Holloway. Set in 1972, the crime thriller centers around the first black female FBI agent as she teams up with a getaway driver to take down a major crime syndicate operating in the Southwest.

The new teaser trailer for Duster was released today (seen below), and showcases all the action and drama we can expect from Abrams' new creation, which definitely seems more R-rated than some of his previous offerings. We catch a glimpse of the first meeting between Holloway's character Jim and FBI agent Nina (Rachel Hilson) before things get wild. Sex, drugs, and action are all front and center in the new series, as is Holloway's trademark charm.

It’s perhaps the drive for more seriously minded horror films in the vein of “Get Out” or “Hereditary” that has made the slasher subgenre feel less relevant; there’s only so much social satire that can be pulled off in a story about a masked serial killer mowing down innocent people.

Teen shows are a dime a dozen on Netflix, but few of them are as funny, charming, chaotic, and emotionally grounded as "Never Have I Ever." The Lang Fisher and Mindy Kaling-created series follows the exploits of Devi Vishwakumar (Maitreyi Ramakrishnan in her first-ever role), a bold, opinionated Indian-American teenager on a perpetually thwarted quest to kiss boys, get into a good college, and feel okay again after the unexpected passing of her father ("Heroes" alum Sendhil Ramamurthy).

The show starts with precocious, adventurous Devi eager to lose her virginity, with her sights focused on the most popular boy in school. Thankfully, though, the show doesn't get mired in high-school-virgin trope territory, and instead evolves into a surprisingly beautiful (and consistently wacky) take on the complexities of teen relationships, self-esteem, and more. It looks like we finally have a streaming release date for the upcoming fantasy romance movie Girl Haunts Boy. It will reportedly be released on Netflix this October. The exact date is Thursday, Oct. 10, 2024, so make sure to save the date!

We first learned of this movie back in May 2022. However, it wasn't titled Girl Haunts Boy back then, nor was it billed as a movie. In fact, Netflix wasn't involved with the project in any way. Max, which was called HBO Max at the time, had greenlit the project, which was originally titled B-Loved. And instead of it being a movie, it was going to be a two-part television special event premiering on Max in time for Valentine’s Day 2023.

Horror video game adaptation Until Dawn has announced its first cast members and they’re all rising stars. More on the news below.

In January, we brought you the news that the horror video game Until Dawn was getting its own film adaptation. David F. Sandberg, known for Lights Out and the Shazam! films, was announced as the director.

Now, we can reveal the first bit of casting for Until Dawn. Ella Rubin, Michael Cimino, Ji-young Yoo and Odessa A’zion have been cast in the film, but no details on who they are playing have emerged yet. Deadline was the first to report the news.

Screen Gems and PlayStation Productions have revealed four key cast members for the upcoming film adaptation of the popular horror game Until Dawn. According to Deadline, the actors cast are Michael Cimino, Odessa A'zion, Ella Rubin, and Ji-young Yoo.

The film version will be directed by Lights Out director David F. Sandberg. Annabelle Comes Home writer Gary Dauberman wrote the latest version of the script, with Blair Butler (Hell Fest) working on a previous draft.

Michael Cimino is best known for starring in Hulu's Love, Simon spinoff series Love, Victor, in addition to appearing in Never Have I Ever and Annabelle Comes Home. A'zion is probably best known for starring in the Netflix drama Grand Army, though she's no stranger to the horror genre, having starred in Hellraiser (2022). She also has the indie horror movie Hell House in development.

A brief perusal of Hulu’s LGBTQ section doesn’t disappoint, but digging in deeper will give you the best chance at a genuinely memorable watch. Right now, the Disney-backed streamer is hosting popular queer television classics, like “The L Word,” “My So-Called Life,” and “RuPaul’s Drag Race,” alongside fresher fare, including “Everything’s Gonna Be Okay” and “Killing Eve.” Recent Hulu originals, such as “Love, Victor” and “Shrill,” deserve singling out, if only because you know they’re buzz-worthy and readily available on the service.

Based on the book of the same name, the Prime Video original movie Red, White & Royal Blue follows the enemies-to-lovers romance of Alex Claremont-Diaz, the son of the current U.S. president, and Prince Henry, heir to the British throne. After a physical altercation at a royal wedding causes a media firestorm, the two are forced to spend time together in public to try and convince the world that they don’t actually hate each other. As they actually get to know each other, they discover that they have a lot more in common than they realized.

First Three Episodes of “Secret Invasion” Head to Hulu

Disney’s not-so-secret invasion of our streaming-centric society continues. Ahead of Marvel and Disney+’s “Secret Invasion” finale this coming Wednesday, July 26, the Disney streamer has announced it will also stream its first three episodes of the series on Hulu from Friday, July 21 through Thursday, August 17.

The six-episode miniseries that stars Samuel L. Jackson debuted on Disney+ last month on June 21, and as it wraps up, both Hulu and Disney+ subscribers will get to watch the first half of the series on either platform. This is the first time a Disney+ original series will simultaneously on Hulu, as opposed to previous titles, such as “American Born Chinese” and “Andor,” that have jumped between the two platforms, or those that have moved prior to their premiere, such as “Love, Victor.”

The Television Critics Association awards nominations went public Friday, and it was great news for some series and sad news for others.

The Last of Us, The Bear, and Succession are in a three-way tie with five nominations apiece.

All three shows were expected to get some awards love, so their performances here are not surprising.

The Bear has been a bonafide hit for FX and Hulu, but there were some more first-year shows in the mix, too.

Andor, Jury Duty, Shrinking, Interview With the Vampire, and Poker Face were all well-represented.

Somewhat surprising: Ted Lasso and The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel were shut out.

The news comes after both series have been big hits on the awards front and could set a precedent for upcoming awards shows.

Awards will be handed out at an in-person ceremony on August 7, 2023.

There won’t be a TCA Summer Tour this year, but the Television Critics Association is out with the nominees for its 39th annual TCA Awards. Wrapped HBO Emmy winner Succession, sophomore FX dramedy The Bear and HBO’s freshman drama The Last of Us lead the field with five noms each. See the full list below.

ABC’s Emmy-winning comedy Abbott Elementary and Peacock rookie Poker Face are next with four nominations apiece.

Among networks and platforms, the combined HBO/HBO Max doubled up its closest competition with 20 noms to FX’s 10. Streamers Disney+ and Peacock were next with nine each. PBS/PBS Kids got seven.

There are two new categories this year: Outstanding Achievement in Family Programming and Outstanding Achievement in Children’s Programming. Those nominations were dominated by PBS and/or streamers.

The final seasons of The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel and (maybe-probably) Ted Lasso got the cold shoulder from the Television Critics Assoc., which honored the Emmy-winning pair with a total of zero TCA Award nominations.

By contrast, Succession‘s swan song scored a leading five nods, putting the Roy family in a three-way tie with fellow HBO drama The Last of Us and Hulu’s breakout hit The Bear.

HBO’s Succession and The Last of Us as well as FX/Hulu comedy The Bear lead all nominations for the 39th annual Television Critics Association’s awards.

The nominations, voted on by the more than 200 members of the Television Critics Association, also saw HBO and its streaming counterpart, Max, lead all platforms with a combined 20 nods including five each for Succession and Last of Us and two apiece for Barry, The Other Two and The White Lotus.

FX — which produces The Bear (five) followed in second place with 10, while Disney+ (Andor) and Peacock (Poker Face) tied for third with nine apiece.

The coveted program of the year race featured last year’s winner, ABC’s Abbott Elementary, joined by Andor, AMC’s Better Call Saul, Poker Face, Succession, The Bear, The Last of Us, The Other Two and The White Lotus.

“Literally, Marco was in high school,” recalls Miss Benny, who plays him on the show, which debuts June 22. On the latest season of the How I Met Your Mother spinoff, Duff’s Sophie recalls a moment from her teenage years and a flashback scene from Lizzie McGuire appears. The nod to the kids’ show was to all of the fans disappointed the reboot didn’t happen, something that Duff recently recalled.

“I don’t think it was enough to satisfy the fact that [the Disney+ Lizzie McGuire revival] project is shelved,” she told Shape in a recent interview.
