Production-distribution powerhouse Constantin Film has unveiled the cast for its crime-drama series “Smilla’s Sense of Snow,” and the first-look images from the show.

The series stars Filippa Coster-Waldau, Elyas M’Barek and Henry Lloyd-Hughes. Other cast members include Morten Suurballe, Amanda Collin, Set Sjöstrand and Alexandre Willaume.

The series is directed by BAFTA winner Amma Asante. Adapted from Peter Hoeg’s bestselling novel, the show was written by Asante together with Tanja Bubbel, Clive Bradley, Tina Hastings, Rebecca Martin, Julie Nørgaard Jensen, Keith Hodder, Sonya Desai and Pipaluk K. Jørgensen. The book was previously adapted in 1997 as a feature film, directed by Bille August and starring Julia Ormond.

Picture Tree Intl. has boarded international sales for Constantin Film’s comedy fantasy blockbuster “Chantal and the Magic Kingdom,” which will receive its market premiere in Cannes.

The film has been No. 1 on Germany’s box office charts for four consecutive weeks since its release on March 28, and reached more than 2 million admissions, with a gross of $22.5 million.

“Chantal” is the latest German-language hit from writer-director Bora Dagtekin and producer Lena Schömann. The duo previously delivered “Turkish for Beginners,” the “Fuck You Goehte” franchise and the German remake of “Perfect Strangers,” which have collectively grossed more than $300 million worldwide.

In “Chantal,” the beloved “Fuck You Goehte” character Chantal and her best friend Zeynep are sent on a fantasy adventure into the world of fairytales with a comedic and contemporary twist.

Chantal, an influencer without followers, and Zeynep stumble into the fairytale world through an ancient magic mirror, which they mistake for a social media gimmick.

Fack Ju Göhte spinoff Chantal in Fairyland (Chantal im Märchenland) capitalized on its strong start in Germany last Thursday, turning in a weekend performance for the record books. With $6.2M through Sunday, the time travel adventure from Constantin Film scored the best Easter opening frame ever for a German movie in the home market, as well as the best overall launch for a local title since Chantal filmmaker Bora Dağtekin’s 2019 comedy The Perfect Secret.

In total, the Thursday-Sunday session sold nearly 580K tickets with a 37% share of the market. Including previews and the strong Easter Monday holiday, admissions are at 815K through yesterday for nearly €8.3M ($8.9M) which puts Chantal in line with Barbie at the same point in release. Factoring in numbers from Austria and Switzerland, the movie has clocked a little over 930K admissions.

Respected German industry veteran Martin Moszkowicz is stepping down as chairman of Resident Evil producer Constantin Film.

The independent film and TV production company announced that Moszkowicz will let his contract expire as planned and at his own request on February 29, 2024. He will continue to work as a producer for Constantin Film from March 1, 2024.

Current Deputy Chairman Oliver Berben has been appointed as his replacement in the chairman role with effect as of March 1 2024. In other board news, Hanns Beese has extended his contract.

Martin Moszkowicz is to step down as chairman of the executive board of Constantin Film, the producer of the “Resident Evil” franchise and one of Germany’s leading distributors, with deputy chairman Oliver Berben taking over the role.

At his own request, Moszkowicz is to let his contract expire on Feb. 29, 2024, and he will then continue to work as a producer for Constantin Film from March 1, 2024. The company’s supervisory board has approved his request and has appointed Berben to be chairman of the executive board as of March 1, 2024. Additionally, Hanns Beese, the member of the board in charge of finance, has extended his contract.

Moszkowicz is one of the leading producers in the independent film and television sectors worldwide. Constantin Film has achieved major successes on his watch and has established itself as a leading media company both at home and abroad.

“Resident Evil” and “Shadowhunters” producer Constantin Film has renewed the contracts of its long-serving CEO Martin Moszkowicz and TV and digital chief Oliver Berben, and promoted Berben to deputy CEO.

Moszkowicz has been CEO of Constantin Film since Jan. 1, 2014 and in addition to company management and strategy he is also in charge of worldwide production and distribution, world sales, marketing and publicity, and corporate communication and legal affairs, among other duties.

Moszkowicz’s most recent credits include “Resident Evil: The Final Chapter” (2017), “Suck Me Shakespeer” (2017), “This Crazy Heart” (2017), “How About Adolf?” (2018), “Polar” (2019), “The Collini Case” (2019), “The Silence” (2019), “Das perfekte Geheimnis” (2019), “Dragon Rider” (2020), and “Monster Hunter” (2020).

Berben has been a member of the board since Jan. 1, 2017, and as deputy CEO will continue to run the TV, entertainment and digital media division, and supervise the development and production of all national and international projects of the division. Berben will continue his activities as a producer as well.

With Germany and the rest of continental Europe swooning through the dog days of August, local audiences flock to the cinema to catch the latest capers of detective Franz Eberhofer, the star of a crime comedy franchise based on a series of best-selling novels. As temperature soar, so do ticket sales for what’s become one of Germany’s most sure-fire box office hits.

But don’t expect to catch “Leberkäsjunkie” (The Meatloaf Addict) anytime soon at a theater near you. The fifth installment in the Eberhofer franchise has hardly traveled beyond Bavaria, even as it’s become Germany’s second highest-grossing domestic film of 2019 ($10 million). “It’s a huge social event in parts of Bavaria,” says Martin Moszkowicz, executive chairman of Constantin Film, which distributes the film. “It’s a real phenomenon.”
