New York and Los Angeles-based arthouse genre sales company Yellow Veil has reported a strong buyer reponse at EFM to Hellbender and The Spine Of Night starring Richard E Grant and has closed territories on both titles.

Fantasia 2021 premiere Hellbender starring Zelda Adams, Lulu Adams and Toby Poser has gone to I-On New Media for German-speaking Europe, Kinologistika for Cis and Baltics, Mi Media International for Malaysia and streaming platform Vivarto for Poland. Talks are ongoing for all of Latin America, Spain and Portugal.

In one of the first big deals of the upcoming SXSW Film Festival, emerging genre sales company Yellow Veil Pictures has acquired the global sales rights for the animated fantasy “The Spine of Night.”

Directed by Philip Gelatt and Morgan Galen King, the film is set to have its world premiere in the SXSW Midnighters section of the festival, which runs virtually from March 16–20. The cast includes Richard E. Grant (“Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker”), Lucy Lawless (“Ash Vs. Evil Dead”), Patton Oswalt (“A.P. Bio”), Betty Gabriel (“Get Out”), and Joe Manganiello (“Magic Mike Xxl”), and featuring Abby Savage (“Orange Is the New Black”), Larry Fessenden (“The Dead Don’t Die”), and Rob McClure (Broadway’s “Beetlejuice”).

Described as an ultra-violent, epic fantasy, “The Spine of Night” was hand-rotoscoped in the style of cult classic animator Ralph Bakshi and designed to evoke the style of formative fantasy artist Frank Frazetta.

One of George A. Romero's earliest films (regarded as a PSA about the horrors of ageism), The Amusement Park was previously thought to be lost to the passage of time, but following its recent discovery and new 4K restoration, the movie's worldwide sales rights have been acquired by Yellow Veil Pictures, bringing it one step closer to public consumption.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Yellow Veil Pictures is bringing The Amusement Park to the Cannes Virtual Market, so we might not have to wait long to see who will team up with the company to distribute the film to the masses.

In his latest interview/podcast, host and screenwriter Stuart Wright talks with co-writer/director Matthew Pope and co-writer/producer Don M. Thompson about their debut feature film Blood on Her Name, starring Bethany Anne Lind, Will Patton and Elisabeth Rohm.

A woman’s panicked decision to cover up an accidental killing spins out of control when her conscience demands she return the dead man’s body to his family.

Blood on Her Name is available on VOD in both the UK & USA now.

In the opening moments of “Blood on Her Name,” an arrestingly twisty and suspenseful Southern noir thriller in the tradition of “One False Move,” we’re introduced to Leigh, the working-class protagonist played by Bethany Anne Lind, with a jarring close-up that is at once explicit and ambiguous. Her face is battered, her breathing is labored, and she appears to have just gotten the worst of it in a fight.

But, then again, maybe not the very worst of it.

The bloodied man lying in front of her, we quickly learn, isn’t just unconscious or injured; he is seriously dead. And even before she pauses before completing a 911 call, it’s quite clear that, whatever the reason for the guy’s recent quietus, Leigh views his inconvenient corpse as incriminating evidence.

Blood on Her Name opens with a pool of blood and a panicked breath. A dead body of a man lies at Leigh’s feet. The cuts on her face would suggest that it was self-defense, an accident. She’s a single mother to a teenage son and fears the consequences for her family and for her auto body shop, so she decides to scrub her garage floor clean and dispose of the body. Just as she’s about to dump his body into the lake, his phone rings. Leigh listens to the message left: it’s from his son. Guilt hits her like a punch in the gut, and her conscience tells her that she must bring his body back to his family, to leave them without the pain of the unknowing. But she soon learns that nothing will be able to ease her conscience, and her world soon falls apart.

So when she accidently kills a man who came to her autoshop late one night, she has little reason to trust that the police would believe her when she would tell them she was acting in self-defense. So she decides to cover it up, and that leads her down a increasingly dangerous and psychologically damaging road. A lot happens during the course of director Matthew Pope and co-writer Don M. Thompson’s Blood on Her Name … too much. This can prove problematic for what starts as a simple plot before things start turning convoluted real quick thanks to new revelations shedding light upon secrets and lies. Surprisingly, however, that perpetually escalating noise is justified. The reason stems from the fact that Leigh Tiller (Bethany Anne Lind) isn’t a murderer. Well, that’s not entirely true. Technically she is a murderer since she did presumably kill the man lying dead in a pool of blood on her auto shop’s concrete floor—an act that becomes the driving force of this entire endeavor. She’s just not a murderer in the sense that she did so with purpose.

If we’re being completely honest, none of the characters on-screen are. None of them are necessarily good people either.

Exclusive: U.S. indie distributor Vertical Entertainment is launching a genre-leaning UK distribution arm during the American Film Market.

The slate for 2020 will include Polaroid, previously of Dimension Films; Ld Entertainment’s re-make Jacob’s Ladder; Xyz Films’ Code 8; Peter Facinelli-directed mystery thriller Hour Of Lead; Freida Pinto and Leslie Odom Jr. sci-fi film Only; and Skylin3s, the third installment in the Skyline franchise.

Also among the slate will be genre fare including Rock Paper Dead, Dark Light, Inmate Zero, The Host, True Fiction, Bit, and crime thriller Blood On Her Name starring Will Patton (Armageddon).

Vertical partners Rich Goldberg, Mitch Budin, and Peter Jarowey made the announcement. Vertical’s Head of international Sales, Ryan Keller, and Josh Spector, Vice President, Acquisitions & Distribution, will be overseeing the acquisitions strategy for the territory.
