The Like a Dragon series is one of the longest running Jrpg franchises and is known for its mix of serious crime drama and absurd, over-the-top minigames. With Like a Dragon: Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii, that formula is very much present with minigames from managing a pirate crew to cooking, go-kart racing, and even tending a garden. But could it also be too much?

Well, for longtime franchise fans, this is expected, even welcomed. But what if you’re a new player and this is your first Like a Dragon game? There’s a very real scenario where all the side content is too overwhelming. Minigames make the world feel rich and interactive, but it has to be balanced.

How to Get to Clark’s Boss Fight in Like a Dragon: Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii
Clark is a character in Like a Dragon: Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii that you’ll have to fight before you can recruit him, and as bosses (or a miniboss really) go, he’s not exactly a walkover.
Before we can even begin to explain how to beat him, first, you need to know how to get to Clark in the game. Set the prerequisite of a bigger crew and better boat by the steward at Madlantis’ Pirate Coliseum, our quest turns to Clark, and how he, a shipwright, can...

The Yakuza / Like a Dragon series had a rough time outside of Japan when it first came overseas. But when Yakuza 0 was released worldwide in 2017, the series finally got the mainstream attention it deserved. Since then, the series has grown tremendously and became a hit for Sega and Ryu Ga Gotoku. With Like a Dragon: Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii just released on February 21, I put together a guide on which order to play the games in the series. Chronologically, each entry takes place after the other, making the series easy to follow with a few exceptions, particularly the spin-offs. Yakuza 0 Yakuza 0 is a prequel starring Kazuma Kiryu and Goro Majima in their younger days. Surprisingly, it has one of the best, if not the best, story in the entire series. The game switches between Kiryu and Majima’s perspectives, and greatly expands the latter’s character development. Related: The Power...

Samoa Joe’s redemption arc as a menacing villain is slowly taking shape. His failure to become one of the top contenders in WWE under Triple H’s leadership enabled him to explore other routes, which included playing the antagonist in Like a Dragon: Pirate Yakuza.

Microsoft has made a leap in quantum computing with their recently announced Majorana 1 chip. But is there a chance that somewhere down the pipeline, this affects gaming? Well, if we were to guess, a quantum computer could be the key to solving one of the biggest headaches of gamers in recent years.

With Unreal Engine 5’s heavy demand on PC hardware, players have been forced to deal with frame rate dips, shader compilation stutters, and just overall problems. The experts will have to confirm this but imagine the potential applications in AI upscaling and generation. We don’t expect to have quantum computers in our houses anytime soon, but at least our PCs won’t turn into potatoes.
Could Majorana 1 mean anything for gaming? Surely there’s a way for gamers to benefit down the road.

To be a Like a Dragon fan is to be a gamer spoiled for choice. Since 2005, the franchise (formerly known as Yakuza), has seen nine mainline entries and 14 spin-offs, making it Sega’s long-running action roleplaying game series. With near-annual releases, it’s almost inescapable at this point, with older titles taking up swaths of digital real estate from virtual bargain-bin sales and Netflix-like gaming subscription services. Beyond gaming, there’s not one, but two, live-action adaptations that diverge in their interpretations, representing the series at both its wackiest and most dramatic.

For those who’ve been holding their breath since 2013, Ryu Ga Gotoku’s Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii plays like a spiritual successor to the beloved Assassin’s Creed: Black Flag. But the game, historical accuracy and reality be damned, is also the most delightfully bonkers pirate simulator that you’re likely to ever play. It’s so successful on that front that the traditional Like a Dragon storytelling weaving in and out of the pirate material almost feels intrusive. But it’s a necessary evil—if one even wants to call it that, given that the traditional Like a Dragon elements here are as delightfully chaotic, weird, and overly earnest as ever.

2012 was a big year for isekai stories. Tappei Nagatsuki’s Re:Zero -Starting Life in Another World- series began serialization in April via the Shosetsuka ni Narou (Let’s Become a Novelist) platform. The Sword Art Online anime premiered in July. These popular projects (as well as others like Mushoku Tensei: Jobless Reincarnation ) spread awareness of the growing genre across anime and manga fandom. What is less known, though, is that one of the most beloved isekai works of 2012 was a computer game. Zakuzaku Actors starts unassumingly. Players who enjoyed Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth and are looking for a new game to sink their teeth into a new game can find exactly what they're looking for in another RPG, though maybe not the one they'd expect. The obvious follow-up to FF7 Rebirth would be FF7 Remake Part 3, but until that game materializes, fans will need other options to tide them over. The 2020s have seen many fantastic RPGs – Baldur's Gate 3, Tales of Arise, and Persona 3 Reload to name a few – but one that may have slipped under the radar of many fans was Yakuza: Like a Dragon.
Set in the Japanese city of Yokohama, Like a Dragon follows the story of a low-ranking yakuza gangster named Ichiban Kasuga on a quest for redemption after being betrayed. Though the premise and setting may sound like a far cry from FF7 Rebirth, there's a lot of the same DNA to...

The Yakuza / Like a Dragon series is a big mix of crime, drama, and humor. There are plenty of games that all sound slightly different, which can make it hard for new players to know where to start. The story takes place in a made-up part of Tokyo called Kamurocho and follows the lives of yakuza members. For new players, a popular recommendation is to start with Yakuza 0, which tells the backstory of key characters Kazuma Kiryu and Goro Majima. However, starting from here means taking a lot of playtime before getting to the modern games.
If you're looking for a quicker way to dive in, you might want to start with Yakuza: Like a Dragon (or Yakuza 7). This game features the new main character, Ichiban Kasuga. The live-action adaptation of Sega’s “Like a Dragon” video game series, and the first since the 2007 film “Like a Dragon” by Takashi Miike, was one of the most anticipated series of the year, considering the popularity of the game. What the creators presented on Amazon Prime is a series that borrows the characters and setting of the original 2005 Yakuza game as well as its 2016 remake Yakuza Kiwami but the story is a loose adaptation and follows an original plot, though some major plot-points are retained. Let us see how they fared.

Sega's Like a Dragon series, known mainly as Yakuza in the West, has entertained audiences for nearly 20 years with its mixture of martial arts action, character-driven storytelling, and delightfully convoluted crime drama plotlines. Now, the story of the original 2005 title is being adapted for a Prime Video original series, called Like a Dragon: Yakuza.
Though ostensibly based on the main plotline of the original 2005 Like a Dragon game, the series borrows elements from different games in the series, including Yakuza 0 and Yakuza 4. The series takes many creative liberties with the story in order to present a more character-driven story that nevertheless features many unexpected twists and turns that will surprise even longtime Like a Dragon fanatics. The series stars Ryoma Takeuchi as series hero Kazuma Kiryu, though this version of the character is significantly younger than his video game counterpart. Despite its initial critical and commercial failure, Infinite has found a new life on Prime Video three years after its release. The sci-fi action movie followed Evan McCauley (Mark Wahlberg), a man haunted by memories of places he's never visited, who joins forces with a group of reborn warriors to stop a madman from destroying the endless cycle of life and reincarnation. Based on D. Eric Maikranz' The Reincarnationist Papers novel, Infinite's cast also included Chiwetel Ejiofor, Sophie Cookson and Jason Mantzoukas, among others.

The Yakuza franchise spans seven mainline games, a handful of spin-offs, and the soft-reboot series, Like a Dragon, which itself spans two mainline games and now a spin-off in the form of Like a Dragon: Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii. That's not even mentioning the Judgment series, which is made by the same developers, set within the same universe, but is its own separate entity. It's all a little confusing, especially for an outsider looking in, and that's becoming a bit of a problem.
Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii took people by surprise when it was initially announced, not least because of its bizarre pirate-themed gameplay, but also because no one was really anticipating a Like a Dragon spin-off. It’s not easy to go from a popular video game to a live-action show, especially with a title as well-known as Yakuza, which is now called Like a Dragon. Since the beginning, gamers have been hooked on this series, which combines intense action, deep writing, and a unique sense of humor all set in Japan’s criminal underworld. The Yakuza games are known for having complex plots and interesting characters. The stories unfold in the fictional city of Kamurocho, which is as much a character as the people who inhabit it.
Like a Dragon: Yakuza is spread out over six parts on Prime Video. It tries to catch the spirit of the 2005 game, especially Kazuma Kiryu’s story. The show tries to tell a story in two different time periods by showing Kiryu’s life as a youngster in 1995 and again when he comes back to Kamurocho in 2005 after serving a long jail term.

There’s a recurring trend in the gaming industry where developers and studios rush to announce a live action adaptation only for it to never materialize. Look no further than Netflix’s fumbling of its Horizon Zero Dawn adaptation, a fan-favorite franchise whose streaming debut was announced and subsequently halted after two years in limbo.
More often than not, it’s smarter for creators to keep mum until their projects are nearly done and ready for social media show-and-tell. This is how Sega and Ryu Ga Gotoko Studio shocked fans...

Kiryu Kazuma (Takeuchi Ryôma) needs a new suit. In Like a Dragon: Yakuza’s second episode, the former enforcer, fresh off a decade-long stint in prison, tries on an outfit in a store, only to be harassed in his fitting room by a trio of ruffians. When their leader gets overly pushy, Kiryu wallops the group with an obvious lack of both effort and enthusiasm. After the posers scurry off, Kiryu takes one more look in the mirror. The glass, cracked during the tussle, sends jagged lines across his reflection, embodying his fractured sense of self.

Though I’ve never experienced any of the games in full, I have long been fascinated by the Like A Dragon series, or Yakuza as its known in the West. Apart from being arguably Sega’s biggest franchise not starring any anthropomorphic hedgehogs, the games have long held a reputation for deftly balancing more serious and dark crime drama with an often wacky, over-the-top world, as well as solid, action-focused gameplay.
Those two disparate tones naturally made me curious as to how the franchise would be adapted to television and I figured no matter what, the end result would be fascinating to watch. Said end result, Like A Dragon: Yakuza, isn’t necessarily as compelling as I hoped; but it’s an enjoyable enough series that longtime fans will probably get a kick out of.

"What's that demon get out of all of this?" Prime Video has revealed the main official trailer for the series Like A Dragon: Yakuza, a new live-action adaptation of the video game series Yakuza made by Sega. It will be streaming later this month in the US to watch via Prime Video. The title Like A Dragon: Yakuza flips around the original game title Yakuza: Like A Dragon. This Japanese action drama series plunges into the dark underworld of the yakuza, exploring the universal theme of family not only through bloodline but also through ties between yakuza bosses and their underlings, orphans and their caretakers, as well as mentors and students. These relationships are marked by deep affection at times, and by intense conflict at others, all intricately intertwined. Set in the fictional town of Kamurocho, the story unfolds across two intersecting timelines—1995 and 2005. The Japanese action thriller stars Ryoma Takeuchi as Kazuma Kiryu,...

The always-surprising Like a Dragon series might be taking its hardest left turn yet with Like a Dragon: Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii, but if past ventures are anything to go by, it'll find a way to stick the landing. Announced at the developer's 2024 Rgg Summit, Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii follows a succession of games that mix dramatic Yakuza stories with fun side content and a lot of heart. Although they traditionally take place in urban Japan, 2024's Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth introduced Hawaii as a setting, and the tropical flavor isn't going away quite yet.
Rather than following the recent series protagonist Ichiban Kasuga or original headliner Kazuma Kiryu, Like a Dragon: Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii puts the chaotic Goro Majima in the driver's seat. True to its name, the game is embracing the buccaneer spirit, giving Majima a tricorne hat to match his eyepatch and a wooden...

The second such live-action adaptation of the series, Like a Dragon: Yakuza is an upcoming TV show based on Sega's popular 3D brawler video game franchise. Bringing the games to life and perfectly recreating their feel, a new first look at the series confirms just how accurate its protagonist will look compared to the source material.
As seen in a new livestream video, fans now have a new look at actor Ryoma Takeuchi's take on Kazuma Kiryu in the show. Looking right out of the games, the Dragon of Dojima is seen wearing his iconic grey and red suit. With the visuals seemingly already down pat, half of the work is done for the Amazon Prime Video adaptation in terms of honoring the games.

Amazon Prime Video's adaptation of Sega's Yakuza: Like a Dragon will star Takeuchi Ryoma as protagonist Kiryu Kazuma, diving into a classic Yakuza story. Like Fallout, the Yakuza games feature some RPG elements, making adaptation a unique challenge for Amazon Prime Video. The six-part series will be released in batches on October 25 and November 1, 2024, continuing an exciting trend of video game adaptations.
A sleeper hit for Amazon Prime Video, the Fallout TV series impressed long-time video game fans and newcomers alike. In its first two weeks or so, Fallout drew an estimated 65 million viewers, making the post-apocalyptic drama Amazon Prime Video's second most-watched title ever. Adapting the world of Fallout was a tall order for the show's team. Not only is the franchise bursting with in-universe history and lore, but most entries in the Fallout series are open-world, side-quest-packed action role-playing games that put a player's choices front and center in the story.

The final stage of a great idea has to be when it becomes so ingrained in popular culture that it then belongs to everyone. For example, hardcore horror fans might be aware that the original Frankenstein’s Monster wasn’t green and didn’t have metal bolts sticking out of his neck, but the average person will always associate that imagery with the character even if they haven’t actually consumed any Frankenstein-related media.

Dragon’s Dogma 2 is the sequel to the 2012 title developed by Capcom. The game launched on March 22, 2024, and players looking forward to the title seem disappointed for various reasons. First of all, the performance issues that the game has on PC have been ruining gamers’ experiences.
