The talk/variety series “Real Time with Bill Maher,” hosted by Bill Maher, has been running for nearly two decades now, and is showing no signs of slowing down. In fact, HBO has already renewed the series to continue through 2026. So don’t expect Maher to leave airwaves anytime soon.

Even if you have an Egot, it doesn't mean you can stop collecting awards! On the Monday edition of The View, Friday moderator Joy Behar announced that Whoopi Goldberg would be absent this week as she'll be in Italy to collect a prestigious award.
“We are all jealous of Whoopi today because she’s in Italy — I hope it’s 100 degrees…She’s in Italy accepting an award for her book Bits and Pieces, so she will be out this week,” the long-time co-host revealed after easing viewers' minds.
With Whoopi out, Ana Navarro will be sitting in for the week in Behar's usual spot. But have no fear, Whoopi will return to the Hot Topics' table on July 7th following the traditional July 4th summer break.

Bill Maher attempted to clarify his political views during an episode of his Club Random podcast. The Real Time host also had a bleak prediction about the future of the Democratic Party.
Listening to Maher's monologues, interviews, and panel discussions would lead one to assume the comedian is a Democrat. While he's never hesitated to criticize the party, he's been much harsher on Republicans and the conservative movement.
But the late-night TV host doesn't want to be labeled as a Democrat. He said as much during his Club Random podcast episode with actor Esai Morales.
“I never was a Democrat to begin with,” Maher said. “I always like caucus with the Democrats and I generally vote for them."

“I just wanna watch Nathan Fielder”– that’s the rallying cry of HBO Max users frustrated with Bill Maher’s growing presence on the platform. While Maher’s Real Time has long been a staple of HBO’s late-night slate, his critics are speaking louder than ever, calling out what they see as out-of-touch takes and outdated political comedy. The backlash, folks, isn’t only about content. It’s about tone, platform priorities, and the kind of voices audiences want elevated in 2025.
With creators like Nathan Fielder offering experimental, emotionally layered comedy, many viewers feel HBO Max is stuck pushing the wrong brand of relevance. And that disconnect has sparked real talk about boycotts, programming direction, and shifting audience loyalty.

What’s Bill Maher’s latest peeve? “Clueless, useless” dads in pop culture — and on broadcast TV in particular — who, in the comedian’s mind, are part of a problem that sends teen boys into the misogynistic online groups known as the manosphere. “Let’s make the Father’s Day we just celebrated the last one that takes place in a culture where dads have become such punching bags — literally the last demographic group that TV, ads, and movies can still depict as clueless, useless dips***s, basically, just another child that mom has to look after,” Maher said on his show Real Time on Friday, June 20. “Every sitcom is, ‘Tonight on ABC, Larry burns down the house,’ and the tagline in the commercial for every household product is basically, ‘Because your husband is a moron.’” He went on: “You know, I’m not sure when this trend started, but...

Despite the fact that he has no children of his own (if you don’t count the children he drunkenly lectured on his podcast), Bill Maher sure has a lot to say about fatherhood.
Last June, Maher used Father’s Day as a springboard to complain that overly sensitive dads are the cause of America’s teen mental health epidemic — and not, you know, a global pandemic and increased economic insecurity. Although he did draw the line at suggesting that the “trad dads” he longs for should resume giving kids the belt.
Similarly, on the most recent episode of Real Time with Bill Maher, the host’s “New Rules” segment ended with a prolonged rant about the cultural emasculation of the modern father, who Maher argued are the “last demographic group that TV, ads and movies can still depict as clueless, useless dipshits.”

As Bill Maher wrapped up his 700th episode of Real Time, he got on his soapbox to mourn the supposed loss of masculinity in media.

Television City is opening its soundstages to social media influencers amid a historic production slump in California that’s rippled across the entertainment industry.
Hackman Capital Partners announced on Tuesday a partnership with Interwoven Studios aimed at offering creators production services and studio amenities typically reserved for films and TV shows. Since opening, the facility has attracted projects with Logan Paul, Jake Shane and FaZe Clan.
The move comes amid a downturn in filming in Los Angeles driven by movies and TV shows increasingly filming in other states and countries. More than a year removed from the strikes, the entertainment industry hasn’t returned to filming in Los Angeles as initially expected. Shooting levels in the region, exacerbated by reductions in content spend across most studios, in 2024 recorded the lowest figure observed by FilmLA since it started tracking the data (excluding 2020, when filming was halted amid the pandemic). During this week’s episode of Overtime, the YouTube show for those poor lost souls who somehow didn’t get enough of Bill Maher’s opinions on the hour-long Real Time, the host was asked by a viewer for his thoughts on the firing of Terry Moran.
Moran, a correspondent for ABC News, was suspended, and eventually fired, due to social media posts in which he called President Donald Trump and Deputy Chief of Staff Stephen Miller “world class” haters. He also claimed that Miller is “vile.” The network took issue with this, but not because it was defamatory to the vile community.
As reported by The Los Angeles Times, an ABC News rep stated that Moran’s actions “violated editorial standards and his contract was not renewed,” further explaining that “at ABC News, we hold all of our reporters to the highest standards of objectivity, fairness and professionalism, and...

Elon Musk and Donald Trump have been at odds after Musk publicly criticized Trump’s One Big Beautiful Bill Act. Bill Maher recently addressed the escalating tensions between the two while taking a subtle jab at Musk’s Mars colonization plans along the way.
Musk and Trump had a brief but notable alliance during Trump’s presidency. Musk held a significant role that involved a budget-cutting influence in the administration. However, their relationship soured shortly after Musk stepped down from his role as a Senior Advisor to the President.

Watsonstar Peter Mark Kendall has revealed he didn't know his characters' fates, or anyone else's, until each episode script arrived on set. Despite playing a central role in NBC's Watson, which has been renewed for season 2, Kendall shared that the cast was often in the dark about major plot twists and character outcomes until the very last minute. Kendall's comments underscore the intense pace of network TV production. With quick turnarounds and minimal prep time between episodes, actors must rely on instinct and trust in the writing team.

Bill Maher is clearly still dealing with the fallout of his friendly meal with President Trump, which has, so far, sparked a massive fan backlash and inspired a Larry David short story set in Nazi Germany. At least Maher has been celebrated as a modern hero by… Bill Maher.

Although Cheech Marin and Tommy Chong pioneered the stoner comedy genre, the cult film franchise nearly looked much different.
While appearing on Real Time with Bill Maher on Friday, the duo discussed their new documentary Cheech & Chong’s Last Movie and reminisced about the Oscar-nominated director they tried to recruit to helm one of their films.
“One time, I called Terrence Malick—I’m a big fan of Terrence Malick, his movies are incredible—because we were looking for a director,” Chong recalled to Maher. “And we had a little conversation. I knew I was bugging him. I had that feeling. He was like, ‘Who is this?'”
Citing Badlands (1973) as one of his influences, Chong appreciated the “composition … the whole movie experience” of Malick’s work.
He continued, “So, I talked to him. And it was a short conversation. He said, ‘Did you write it?’ And I said, ‘Yes.

Many comedians and media members have made some pretty serious condemnations of Bill Maher since the late-night host spoke highly of President Donald Trump following a private dinner at the White House, but Maher’s critics would change their tune about him shaking Trump’s hand if they knew how Maher feels about Purell.

Scott Jennings has become so much a part of CNN in recent months, one can argue, that he has become almost as familiar as anchors like Anderson Cooper and Jake Tapper. Even so, he doesn’t have to follow the same rules they do.
CNN says Jennings was well within his rights on Tuesday when he made a brief appearance at a rally-like event held in Michigan by President Donald Trump. In journalism circles, such stuff — curling up to an elected official and offering signs of support — is widely viewed as anathema. “Look at these farms,” Jennings said on stage. “I’ve got to get a farm in Michigan — because when you own as many libs as I do, you gotta get a place to put them all.” He later added on social media that he “got caught up in the moment,” and added a few well-placed emojis.

Bill Maher is getting another round of publicity for his dinner with Donald Trump — this time by way of reacting to Larry David's "My Dinner With Adolf" essay for The New York Times. The not-so-thinly-veiled take-down of Maher's cringe-inducing, 13-minute-long monologue about meeting the current U.S. President at a dinner organized by Kid Rock (yep) made waves on social media when it was published, mostly for using infamous Nazi leader Adolf Hitler as a stand-in for Donald Trump. The Curb Your Enthusiasm creator and star's satirical dragging of the Real Time host's claims of journalistic neutrality seems to have hit a nerve with Maher, who balked at the comparison between Trump and Hitler.

Dana Carvey previously admitted that he “can’t do Elon Musk very well,” but his impression of the billionaire businessman is already showing improvement. Carvey once again took a crack at a Musk imitation during his sit-down with Bill Maher on the Real Time episode airing Friday, March 21. “I don’t really do it yet, but I’m working on it,” the comedian said. “We got to go to Mars, because we can’t sustain life on planet Earth,” Carvey said, aping Musk’s mumbling tone. “We gotta go to Mars. Imagine working with someone for years, traveling across the galaxy, facing off against Klingons, Romulans, and an assortment of sci-fi oddities, only to have your biggest battle be with your own co-star. Welcome to the decades-long, interstellar feud between William Shatner and George Takei. If Star Trek was all about boldly going where no one had gone before, their relationship was about stubbornly staying where no one wanted to be, at odds.
This isn’t your standard Hollywood rivalry filled with passive-aggressive award speeches or cryptic social media posts. No, this one has been brewing for over 50 years. It’s like a slow-cooked space stew of bitterness, misunderstandings, and just a dash of ego. As Dana Carvey appeared Friday on Real Time with Bill Maher, he brought a few familiar voices with him.
The Saturday Night Live alum quickly whipped out his impressions of Donald Trump and Elon Musk, noting that he’s “working on” the latter after Musk appeared to be put off by the impersonation during a post-election SNL appearance in November.
“So, Trump’s there, and he’s got the tie, and then Elon is up there talking, right?” he explained. “And I don’t really do it yet, but I’m working on it.”
In his best Musk mumble, Carvey said, “We got to go to Mars, because we can’t sustain life on planet Earth. We gotta go to Mars, it’s just gonna be really cool, Ok? Mhm, mhm, mhm.”
Pivoting to his Trump impression, the comedian responded, “What he said. He’s a smart cookie, he’s a tough cookie,...

Bill Maher raised questions about the evolving language around sex work during the latest episode of Real Time with Bill Maher. In his “New Rules” segment, the comedian addressed how the term “sex worker community” has replaced previous terminology, particularly in the wake of Anora’s success at the Academy Awards.
Maher commented on how language changes over time. “You gotta give me more than a week to get used to a new word or phrase or name for what we call something,” he said. Comparing it to shifts in terminology for homelessness and immigration, he expressed skepticism over the sudden mainstream adoption of “sex worker” as the preferred term.
The HBO host referenced Anora, the Sean Baker-directed film that won five Oscars, including Best Picture and Best Actress for Mikey Madison. Both Baker and Madison used their acceptance speeches to acknowledge the “sex worker community,” which Maher found notable.

After a week of even greater political brinksmanship at home and abroad from Donald Trump, Pennsylvania Gov. Josh Shapiro on Friday weaved around admitting to Bill Maher if he is running for president in 2028.
“I’m not an expert in the DC stuff,” Shapiro said on Real Time as the latest leading Democrat getting exposure off Maher. “I try and stay as far away from that as I can. I live in the real world in Pennsylvania, where we have to balance budgets.”
However, often channeling Barack Obama, the first-term Keystone State governor was clear that he felt Sen. Chuck Schumer and top Democrats in the Senate blew it today. Shapiro was dismissive of their strategy of voting to move forward the GOP’s Trump-approved six-month spending measure and avert a federal government shutdown starting this weekend.

Bill Maher says that Donald Trump is right to try to abolish the Department of Education, but Marc Maron is ready to step up and give the smarmy centrist some schooling.
Despite describing himself as a “practical” liberal, the Real Time host has been comparatively warmer toward the second and significantly more reactionary Trump administration than he was toward the first Trump term. Shortly before Trump’s most recent inauguration, Maher claimed to have a “wait and see” approach to the president’s agenda, but the wait is over. According to Maher’s recent comments, Trump is a mixed bag, and the immediate crashing of the economy, the aggression toward our country’s closest allies, the annihilation of the federal workforce and the deliberate weakening of national security are all balanced out by Trump’s move to shutter numerous federal agencies whose responsibilities Maher doesn’t understand.

Super Bowl Lix is ongoing and has fans of football biting their nails in sweet anticipation. The Kansas City Chiefs are defending their two-time title whereas the Philadelphia Eagles are looking to snatch it away from them. Bill Maher’s “new rule” on the eve of the NFL championship game: “Enjoy the Super Bowl this weekend while you can because it’s probably one of the last ones to be shown on broadcast TV, which is a shame because streaming is ruining football. And that’s Taylor Swift’s job now.”
The “Real Time” host popped off Friday night about digital platforms like YouTube TV and Netflix dipping into live sports, delivering a razor-sharp rant about how digital technology is actually a “reverse improvement” over old-school, linear TV when it comes to watching live events.
“What’s so bad about streaming football, you ask?” he continued. “Well, Ok, for one, I used to be able to switch between two games in just a second — just one second — by hitting ‘previous’ on the remote [audience roars]. Thank you. But on YouTube TV, I have to go back to the homepage,...

Comedian Bill Maher has publicly criticized the National Football League’s move toward streaming platforms, highlighting significant challenges in the digital sports viewing experience. During the latest episode of HBO’s “Real Time,” Maher outlined specific issues that he believes are making football harder to watch.
The comedian focused on technical difficulties that plague modern sports streaming. “I used to be able to switch between two games in just a second,” Maher said during his “New Rules” segment. He described the complicated process of navigating streaming services like YouTube TV, which requires multiple clicks to switch between games.
This critique comes at a critical time for the NFL, which has been aggressively expanding its digital presence. The league has recently secured major streaming deals, including a three-year agreement with Netflix for Christmas Day games and Amazon Prime Video’s exclusive Thursday Night Football coverage.
Maher’s complaints extend beyond game navigation.

As Kanye West returns to the public eye with a vengeance, Bill Maher has some thoughts on his latest antisemitic rant.
On Friday’s episode of Real Time, the comedian quickly turned his attention to Ye in his opening monologue, calling out the 24x Grammy winner’s offensive rant and his friendship with President Donald Trump after West pleaded with the twice-impeached politician to pardon Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs.
“Then of course, Kanye joined the fun and tweeted yesterday, ‘I love Hitler and I’m a Nazi,'” said Maher. “Either he’s trolling or he’s angling for a cabinet appointment.”
West previously called on Trump to “Free My Bother Puff,” referring to the rapper who is awaiting trial on multiple sex trafficking and abuse charges. Combs has pleaded not guilty and was denied bail three times.

Is Real Time with Bill Maher new tonight, February 7? The answer is yes, and the HBO late-night TV is opening its doors to one of President Donald Trump's biggest supporters.
Real Time with Bill Maher has a habit of ruffling feathers on both sides of the aisle. But there's no denying that it has the most diverse group of guests in late-night TV when it comes to political and social views.

As Los Angeles continues to recover from the devastating fires, Bill Maher made light of the tragic natural disaster this week on his show.
During the ‘New Rule’ segment of Friday’s Real Time, the comedian continued his ongoing “Donald Trump is gay” bit and predictably compared a didgeridoo to a bong before turning his attention to the Los Angeles wildfires.
“From now on, when tragedy strikes an American city, let’s just assume they’re strong,” he said. “First, there was ‘Boston Strong’, and then ‘Orlando Strong’, Dayton was strong, El Paso… you guessed it, strong. ‘San Bernardino Strong’, ‘New Orleans Strong’, now there’s ‘Los Angeles Strong’. And we are; Los Angeles is a place where the people are strong, just not the water pressure.”
At least 25 people died in the Southern California wildfires that broke out this month and caused immeasurable destruction, with more than 105,000 receiving mandatory evacuation orders.

Bill Maher Pitches New Grammy Categories: “Best Song That Trump Got Sued for Playing at His Rallies”
If the Recording Academy is listening, Bill Maher has some ideas for new Grammy categories.
With the 67th annual Grammy Awards just days away, the comedian took a moment during the latest episode of HBO’s Real Time to suggest some new creative categories for music’s biggest night.

We're ready to close the books on an eventful January. But one late-night TV show still has to have its say about what happened this month: Real Time with Bill Maher.
The month has given late-night TV a lot to talk about, including the January 6 anniversary and subsequent pardons, Donald Trump's inauguration, the string of executive orders, the LA wildfires, and the deadly airplane crash in Washington, D.C.
What Bill Maher will choose to talk about is anyone's guess. But the good news for fans is that there will be a brand-new episode of Real Time with Bill Maher tonight, January 31.
It's likely Maher will join other late-night TV hosts by responded to Trump's theory that Dei initiatives played a role in the collision between an Army helicopter and a commercial flight. The confirmation hearings for Robert F. Kennedy, Jr., Kash Patel, and Tulsi Gabbard are likely also on the table.

Who’d have thought that the most pointed disagreement between Bill Maher and Matt Gaetz on Maher’s Club Random podcast would not be over Donald Trump or January 6 or allegations about Gaetz having sex with a minor, but about television?
To be sure, the duo did cover Trump, Russiagate, the insurrection at the U.S. Capitol and the accusations against Gaetz, which the former U.S. representative for Florida’s 1st congressional district denied. What did cause fireworks was Gaetz’s evaluation of Maher’s work.
It began with Gaetz praising Maher’s former show, Politically Incorrect, calling it “one of the best shows on TV,” before adding, “It’s way better than your show now.”
A surprised Maher interrupted with “that’s so insulting.”

“Donald Trump is president again, and he’s only 13 percent contained,” Bill Maher said in the January 24 episode of HBO’s Real Time as he criticized Trump’s remarks about federal aid for the ongoing Southern California wildfire disaster. Trump recently told Fox News’ Sean Hannity that he doesn’t think the U.S. government should “give California anything until they let water flow down.” To that, Maher said, “You’re not giving us anything. We’re Americans. This isn’t a casino and you’re comping our room, Ok?” In his Fox News appearance, Trump also repeated false claims that fish conservation efforts in Northern California robbed the Los Angeles area of fire hydrant water, according to the Associated Press. The delta smelt faced extinction in the 1990s because of river water diverted for farm irrigation, so state and federal officials required that some water flow through to support the species,...
