6/10

A criminal child with no future

The movie is about a teenager, Querô, who is raised by a pimp woman, owner of a whorehouse, after his mother died on childbirth. The old woman treats him badly and he doesn't have the opportunity to get proper education.

To earn some money, and looking for some status, he enters the crime world. One day he is arrested and goes to the FEBEM, the old Brazilian prison for children and teenagers (the same of the Pixote movie).

The plot is interesting, and he suffers a lot, in a verisimilar way, but sometimes the dialogs are not spontaneous, not natural.

Mainly the Querô's monologues are quite forced. The main character is a teenager without education, but still though he philosophize about life in quite an intellectual way, as if he were an experienced adult.

The actors are good and the movie is well directed, except by the fight scenes that are shot too close.

This movie gets 6 out of 10, but if you want to watch a masterpiece on the same theme, you must see "Pixote, a lei do mais fraco".

Sensitizing.

Tipical brazilian kind of cinema and everyday story.

It's not that visually appealing or well finished but it sincerely tells, actually the poor photography and messed executing probably contributes for the overall aspect of the nasty content.

It hurts the soul...

Based on the novel Querô, uma Reportagem Maldita, by Plínio Marcos, but updated and more faithful to the original novel, I still want to read the book, such a PAINFUL portrait, especially because it deals with children and young people marginalized by society and life, in a world marked by determinism, which makes it impossible for them to escape marginality... So many layers... 40 teenagers from the Querô Workshop at the Port of Santos participated... It hurts the soul...

The son of a prostitute, Querô is a poor and orphaned teenager who lives alone in the port region of Santos. Believing himself to be the master of his own destiny, Querô does not bow to the oppressive discipline of Febem, to the easy game of drug trafficking and, much less, to the corrupt police officers who persecute him. He pays a high price for this.
