The original anime series Neon Genesis Evangelion was ground breaking. It pushed boundaries in terms of animation and storytelling. It originally aired in 1995/6 with an additional two episode Complementary ending in 1997. In the 2000s the Rebuild Of Evangelion was envisioned. The writer-director Hideaki Anno wanted to remake the original 26 episodes in four films. The idea was to have the first three films retell most of the original story with the final film being a radical departure from the original narrative. The first of these films, Evangelion: 1.0 You Are (Not) Alone, was released in 2007. The second, Evangelion: 2.0 You Can (Not) Advance, from 2009, was a massive departure from the original plot. A third, Evangelion: 3.0 You Can (Not) Redo, followed in 2012, and after a nine year wait the 2021 conclusion Evangelion: 3.0+1.0 Thrice Upon A Time.

Anime Hit ‘Evangelion: Thrice Upon a Time’ Heads to Amazon Prime Video

Amazon Prime Video has picked up international rights to “Evangelion: 3.0+1.01 Thrice Upon a Time,” the fourth movie in the “Evangelion” hit anime movie franchise.

The streaming giant will release the film worldwide, excluding Japan, from Aug. 13, 2021. The film, made by a quartet of helmers including original director Anno Hideaki, was released in Japanese theater in March and remains the highest grossing film of the year to date.

The “Evangelion” franchise is a Japanese anime pop culture phenomenon based on the story of Evangelion, an artificial human and multipurpose humanoid weapon, and the Angels, an unknown life-form which takes place after the Earth has been shattered by a cataclysmic event. Production is by Studio Khara.

Amazon Sets Global Launch For Japanese Box Office Hit ‘Evangelion: 3.0+1.01 Thrice Upon A Time’

Amazon Prime Video has set an exclusive global premiere — outside Japan — for anime hit Evangelion: 3.0+1.01 Thrice Upon A Time. The fourth and final chapter of the Evangelion: New Theatrical Edition will launch in over 240 countries on August 13. Aka Shin Evangelion, the film has grossed over 9.6B yen ($86M+) in Japanese cinemas and been seen by nearly 6.3M moviegoers since its March debut. To celebrate the finale of the franchise, Prime Video will also release the three previous entries, Evangelion: 1.11 You Are (Not) Alone, Evangelion: 2.22 You Can (Not) Advance and Evangelion: 3.33 You Can (Not) Redo.

The original TV series first aired in 1995 and was reborn as film series Evangelion: New Theatrical Edition (or Rebuild Of Evangelion) in 2007. Latest ‘Evangelion’ Anime Passes $30 Million in First Week at Japan Box Office

“Evangelion: 3.0+1.0 Thrice Upon a Time,” the fourth film in the Rebuild of Evangelion sci-fi anime series created and co-directed by Anno Hideaki, has earned $30.6 million from 2.2 million admissions in its first week on release, according to distributor figures released on Monday.

Bowing on March 8 on 466 screens, the film has grabbed 45% more at the box office than the third “Rebuild of Evangelion” film, “Evangelion: 3.0 You Can (Not) Redo,” which had a opened in 2012 and finished with $48.6 million.

Also, its first-day take of $7.6 million on 540,000 admissions beat the previous film’s by 24%, despite opening on a Monday instead of the Japanese industry standard Saturday.

But impressive as these numbers are, they do not match up to those of last year’s mega-hit anime, “Demon Slayer The Movie: Mugen Train.” Opening on 403 screens on Oct. 16., 2020, it scored a first-day gross of $12 million and went to top $100 million within ten days. As...

Raya And The Last Dragon delivers $17.6m in international

Disney animation Raya And The Last Dragon received a modest boost at the weekend by opening in three new markets – Saudi Arabia, Hong Kong and Croatia – while also achieving some strong holds.

International takings were an estimated $11.5m (declining 39% in holdover territories), with North America delivering an estimated $5.5m (down 36%). Those combine for an estimated $17m globally, and $52.6m after two weekends of play.
