The Walking Dead flagship series concluded in Fall 2022, but it continues to be an icon in pop culture. As the franchise produces new spin-off shows and builds on the stories of long-running and beloved characters, fans consider the events of the original series to shape their perspective of each new installment. The arcs of Maggie Rhee and Negan Smith are of particular interest to viewers as they await the upcoming Spring 2025 release of Dead City Season 2.
Though many viewers stopped watching when The Walking Dead concluded, die-hard fans are dedicated to each new addition to the wider world of the undead. The arc in the original series is monumental to understanding the themes and tropes in the current storylines, especially regarding how the concept has evolved over the years. Analyzing the highs and lows of the season finales offers a deeper understanding of what impresses or disappoints the Walking Dead audience.

During the eleven seasons of The Walking Dead both heroes like Rick Grimes and antagonists like Negan murdered numerous survivors of the apocalypse alongside scores of Walkers and the characters with the highest The Walking Dead kill counts are some of the show's most iconic. This list doesn't include Walkers, as the numbers at that point would be in the 100s. Rather, the Walking Dead characters with the highest kill counts apply to those who have taken the lives of the already living. The Walking Dead saw many deaths over its 11-season run, and a lot of them were at the hands of its main characters.
The Walking Dead's central character, Rick Grimes, left the show in season 9, although until his departure he was the Twd character with the highest kill count. Michonne left shortly after Rick, meaning she couldn't accumulate any more kills either. Other characters, like Negan and Daryl,...

Warning: Spoilers for The Walking Dead: The Dead City season 1, episode 4The Walking Dead: Dead City continues its subtle rewrite of Negan's past, but The Croat's backstory creates a notable Carl Grimes plot hole. The introduction of Jeffrey Dean Morgan's Negan on The Walking Dead was a branching path for the series. The sheer brutality of his introduction turned many longtime viewers off the series, but for those who stayed, Negan became one of the most compelling characters. This is largely thanks to Morgan's performance, but the character's path from repulsive villain to likable anti-hero has been one of the most intriguing arcs of The Walking Dead's later seasons.
The Walking Dead: Dead City is continuing Negan's redemption tour, where he and former mortal enemy Maggie (Laurie Cohan) are forced once again to become reluctant allies. Maggie's son Hershel (Logan Kim) has been kidnapped by new villain The...

Negan is one of the most iconic characters in The Walking Dead — however, one scene almost ruined his character. Negan has been through a lot of development throughout his time on The Walking Dead, evolving from the ruthless villain he entered the show as. Yet, all the hard work that went into building his character redemption arc was almost undone in a single scene.
The Walking Dead's handling of Carl's character toward the end of the series did a great disservice to his character — as Carl's death is regarded as one of the biggest mistakes in the series — but Carl had a major effect on Negan's character, both before and after his passing. Carl was the only one to have faith in Negan's redemption in the beginning, and it was Carl's dream for the future that saved Negan's life. Negan's relationship with Carl was unique; he had a softer...

Living in a post-apocalyptic world is no picnic, that’s for sure, and The Walking Dead has dug deep into the terrible things the survivors have to do to protect themselves and their loved ones over its first decade. No character understands this struggle better than Rick Grimes, who has had to get his hands dirty many times to keep his friends and family safe. In fact, fans often discuss whether he’s really a hero when he’s taken so many lives across the show.
But how many people has Rick killed? Not including the zombies he’s cut down, he’s had to make the difficult decision to end a human life so many times that it’s hard to keep track. Here’s a pretty exhaustive list though as put together by ScreenRant of every death caused by Rick from season 2, when he takes his first victims,...

No one’s going to start writing an obituary for The Walking Dead anytime soon, but compared with past years, Sunday’s Season 8 finale was almost the least-watched of the AMC zombie apocalypse series. On the flip side, spinoff Fear the Walking Dead opened its fourth season right after with viewership it hasn’t seen since 2016.

Reports of the National Football League’s TV demise have been greatly exaggerated. The NFL dominated 2017’s ranker of the most-watched TV, taking up 27 of the slots on this year’s list of the top 100 telecasts (both broadcast and cable) among adults 18-49. That includes, of course, Super Bowl Li, which led the pack among adults 18-49 and total viewers.
Fueled by a thrilling come-from-behind win by the New England Patriots over the Atlanta Falcons — and the first-ever Super Bowl determined in overtime — the 51st Super Bowl averaged nearly 112 million total viewers, down just a tick from last year’s 112.6 million.
Beyond the Super Bowl, NBC’s “Sunday Night Football” claimed 16 slots on the list of top-rated telecasts in 2017. That put it second among TV shows, behind only the Peacock network’s breakout drama “This Is Us,” which landed 18 spots on the top 100.

Let it be known that The Walking Dead‘s season 8 premiere, “Mercy,” will ring in the show’s 100th episode in style.
Championed as an “explosive” start to what has been described as a suitably breathless instalment of AMC’s undead flagship, series showrunner Scott Gimple has consistently assured viewers that both he and The Walking Dead‘s creators have learned from past mistakes – specifically the sluggish pacing and drab story that crippled season 7.
But as Twd director Greg Nicotero tells ComicBook.com, “The First Day of the Rest of Your Life” ended with the threat of war, as Negan and the Saviors prepare to defend the Sanctuary for all it’s worth.
We ended 7×16 with Negan standing in front of the Sanctuary saying, ‘Okay, we’re going to war.’ Everybody’s kind of there and ready to go. So, I would say this is by far the most propulsive...

It’s fair to say that The Walking Dead‘s seventh season was the most controversial run of the smash-hit post-apocalyptic drama to date. Though it still has its supporters, the shocking opening episode and the slow, protracted pace of the rest of the season rubbed many people the wrong way. The final few episodes ramped up the interest again, however, by positioning the people of Alexandria, the Kingdom and Hilltop against Negan and his Saviors.
For season 8, then, things are sure to get a whole lot more action-packed and dramatic. While that’s certainly exciting, those are far from the only reasons why we’re looking forward to the show’s return. Among many other things, there’s also the fact that this year, The Walking Dead will celebrate 100 episodes, and to mark the occasion, AMC is sticking some fun easter eggs into the premiere for fans to pick up on.

Jeffrey Dean Morgan’s Negan is a force to be reckoned with.
He’s a sadist, an unhinged psychopath, and a calculating leader; but he’s also one of the more compelling villains that The Walking Dead has seen in years. First introduced at the tail-end of season 6, Negan arguably hit his stride during the somewhat contentious “The Day Will Come When You Won’t Be,” when he lined up Rick and his ragtag crew before brutally executing Glenn and Abraham.
It was a heartbreaking moment for Twd fans around the world, and one that received a lot of backlash, but if you assume that the show might go a bit easier on us when it returns, you’ve got another thing coming. That’s because there won’t be any letting up at all once season 8 kicks off, as we’ve now learned that The Walking Dead will “thin the herd” this year.

Renown comic book artist Tony Moore has posted his own version of Glenn’s death scene from The Walking Dead, and it’s as grisly as you’d expect.
First spotted by Screen Rant, Moore shared the blood-drenched sketch via Instagram late last week before attending Boston’s annual Comic-Con, and even if you only have a passing knowledge of Robert Kirkman’s source material, you’ll be able to recognize the carefully drawn design in an instant. That’s because Tony Moore has been contributing to The Walking Dead since it first hit store shelves back in 2003, when Kirkman’s vision of a perpetually bleak zombie apocalypse was still in its infancy. It wasn’t until 2010 that AMC tapped his magnum opus for the small screen, and the rest is history.

Ahead of the release of The Walking Dead‘s seventh season on DVD and Blu-Ray, we now have a full breakdown of one of several deleted scenes that will be featured on the boxset.
ComicBook.Com revealed a write-up of what sounds like a great sequence that was ultimately excised from the season finale, “The First Day of the Rest of Your Life.” It sees Michonne inspire the Grimes boys into action when they’re in a dark place. According to the outlet, here’s how it goes down:
Rick and Carl are together in their Alexandria house. Carl is sitting, cleaning and preparing guns. Rick is strapping his belt on and examining his python.
Carl says, “It’s weird not having her here.”
“She’s safe. She’s with family,” Rick said. He is leaving for the “heaps” soon.
“You know what to do if they show up,” Rick said.

With Alien: Covenant on its way — and his announcement that he’d like to helm many more of them — director Ridley Scott also has plans to direct All The Money In The World, according to Deadline. If Season 7 of “The Walking Dead” was about preparing Rick Grimes (Andrew Lincoln) for battle, Season 8 promises to be a fast-paced all-out war with the show’s ultimate villain, Negan (Jeffrey Dean Morgan).
Executive producer Scott Gimple told IndieWire that Season 7 ended on a “strange sort of happy ending.” Rick and his Survivors are bruised and battered, but manage to survive an attack from Negan and the “Saviors.” Even the death of Sasha (Sonequa Martin-Green) gives them an opening to fight back.
It’s a huge contrast to the start of the season, when Glenn (Steven Yeun) and Abraham (Michael Cudlitz) were killed in the most brutal way possible, at the hand of Negan and his barbed-wire baseball bat “Lucille.” Sasha’s death, in contrast, was almost empowering.

“Alexandra will not fall, not on this day!” Ever since Negan lined up Rick and the gang in truly sadistic fashion back when The Walking Dead season 7 premiered, it’s been one harrowing situation after another for our ragtag crew of survivors.
For them, the Saviors have been a constant thorn in the backside, and though it’s fair to say that season 7’s momentum has wavered since kicking off in October, last night’s finale, “The First Day of The Rest of Your Life,” proved to be an overly satisfying conclusion for the Twd faithful, with all eyes now beginning to turn toward the already confirmed eighth season. The Walking Dead has been indulging in extended episodes for most of the seventh season, and for the most part, it hasn't worked out in a way that is positive for the show. The First Day Of The Rest Of Your Life, the season finale, splays out over about ninety minutes of television time, once you account for commercials. Does the show do anything with that elongated running time? Not really; as it has throughout the season, The Walking Dead uses expanded episodes merely to pad the advertising slots for sale, and not so much to advance the story.
With any luck, The Walking Dead season 8 will be all killer and no filler, unlike its predecessor. Spoilers...

This much we know after two years in Minnesota: Choosing to embark on a new season of “Fargo” is akin to inviting tragedy unto yourself. Each year, the opening disclaimer originated by the Coen Brothers in their 1996 film promises bodies: “This is a true story… At the request of the survivors… Out of respect for the dead…” And each year we’ve come to love and lose characters within a very short amount of time. You know what you’re getting yourself into, even if — like the UFOs in Season 2 — you can never predict exactly what you’ll see.

Season 7, Episode 16: The First Day of the Rest of Your Life Plot: The residents of the Alexandria Safe Zone prepare for war as the Saviors come for a visit. You gotta give Sasha credit. If you were living through your last day on Earth, wouldn't you want to spend your waning minutes listening to a little Donny Hathaway?
Because that's how The Walking Dead Season Seven finale begins: with the screen completely filled by the face one of the show's best characters, overcome with emotion as she blasts one of the all-time great R&B empowerment anthems, "Someday We'll All Be Free." She's heading toward a pivotal confrontation between the Saviors and her people. But right now, she's unusually calm,...

Warning: The following contains spoilers for Sunday’s Season 7 finale of The Walking Dead.
In the weeks leading up to Sunday’s Season 7 finale of The Walking Dead, Rick & Co. had acquired everything that they needed to take on the Saviors, from allies (the Hilltop, the Kingdom, the junkyard collective) to weapons (sorry, Oceanside). And, although Alexandria’s leader didn’t know it yet, he also had back in action Carol — an army unto herself. So, were the rebel forces able to defeat the Saviors? Did Negan’s “little birdie” crap all over our heroes’ plans? Did the war even really begin,...

In the season 7 finale of The Walking Dead, titled "The First Day of the Rest of Your Life," Rick and the Alexandrians face down Negan and the Saviors in battle. Things don't go as planned for either group, but since wars are rarely won after a single battle, both sides will live on to fight another day. Meanwhile, a captive Sasha has a tough choice to make, Dwight makes his case as to why Team Family should believe him, and several members of the group have very close calls during the battle. For those of you hoping for some action in this episode, you will not be disappointed.

When poor Sasha charged into the Saviors’ compound guns blazing in the closing moments of last Sunday’s penultimate season 7 episode of The Walking Dead, she probably only counted on one of two things happening: either she’d manage to kill Negan – before almost certainly being taken out herself – or she’d be killed before getting to him. Either way, she must have figured it was going to be a one-way trip, but of course, things didn’t quite work out that way and the situation is now a lot more complicated.
Negan managed to take Sasha alive, and after being forced to choose between death or joining the Saviors, the desperate Alexandrian decided on the latter, probably figuring she could buy a little more time to formulate a plan. Unfortunately, Negan is not the patient type, and after being told about Rick’s betrayal by a “little bird,” the...

Seems like each week there's some new article bemoaning the dearth of creativity and risk-taking in film and television. The prevailing sentiment being that Hollywood is only interested in producing sequels, licensed properties, or reboots. Fair enough, lot of truth in that statement. However, when it comes to nerve, hubris, and flat-out aggressiveness for original content, look no further than the fine folks at Netflix.
Deadline reports that actor Channing Tatum will star as U.S. President George Washington in America: The Motion Picture, a revisionist, R-rated, animated film about the founding of our country; brought to you by the creative teams behind Archer and The Lego Movie. With the Legion of Doom in possession of the Spear of Destiny it would be fun to see how different the world would be with the likes of Thawne, Darhk, Merlyn, Mick, and Snart in charge. It actually wasn't that bad. Thawne ended up becoming the CEO of Star Labs and becoming a successful scientist, Merlyn had his entire family back and even his hand, Darhk was still alive and successfully killed all of Team Arrow and Flash, and Snart was allowed to rob and steal whatever he wanted. The Legends would be changed into fragments of their real self. With Rip being stuck in the Wave Rider he had lost all hope and resorted to being the perfect baker. This episode was a parody of Back To The Future II with Nate loosely resembling Marty McFly.

London-based production and sales outfit Evolutionary Films has closed a deal with Rialto Distribution for Australia and New Zealand theatrical rights to director Polly Steele’s drama Let Me Go, based on Helga Schneider’s best-selling memoirs.

After being abandoned in 1941 at four years-old so that her mother can join the Nazi SS as a concentration camp guard in Auschwitz, Let Me Go follows Schneider returning to face her mother sixty years later. Rookie Blue returned for its third season with a new officer, an old case and our dynamic duo on the outs as Andy jumped into the "The First Day of the Rest of Your Life."
What was up with the skydiving? Andy looked petrified up until she got the call about the tribunal and suddenly her confidence kicked in and she dove out a perfectly good airplane. I've never really understood the need to do that, but after her three month suspension maybe Andy just needed to stretch her wings, so to speak. Or maybe she was just bored.
Three months. Three long months without a word from her. No wonder Sam was ticked. Last season left off with these two not being able to keep their hands off one another. Andy had told him she was all in and, as Sam said, some guy in a white shirt told...

William Shatner may be best known for playing Captain Kirk, T.J. Hooker, Denny Crane and the dad that was notorious for saying a whole bunch of shat $#*!, but the actor is out to prove he's more than just his legendary characters (well, three legends and a one-season grump).
The Emmy winner guest-stars on the season 3 premiere of "Rookie Blue" as Henry McLeod, and as ABC's press release describes him, he's "a belligerent drunk driver with a haunting secret." Punching Dov (Gregory Smith) in the face, while reeking of whisky? Definitely. But there's so much more to his character. More on that in a bit.
I've loved "Rookie Blue" since it debuted two years ago. I have a real fondness for the stars, who I've spoken to on numerous occasions (whether it's on location or in a fancy hotel suite), but there's something about the series that makes me proud. Sure,...

America has long held a fascination with serial killers, and now it looks like France is taking a turn with Blind Man, which Xavier Palud (Ils [Them], The Eye) is set to direct for Luc Besson's EuropaCorp, which also holds French distribution and international sales rights.
According to Variety Palud (pictured right) will be directing Lambert Wilson (Sahara, Of Gods and Men) and Jacques Gamblin (The First Day of the Rest of Your Life, Safe Conduct), both of whom are attached to star in the film, which was scripted by writer-director Eric Besnard (Ca$h) from an original idea by Besson.
Palud's third feature, which goes into production in early September in Paris, has Gamblin as a solitary cop investigating a cold case. He suspects that a blind man (Wilson) is the killer, sparking a battle of wits.

You need a sinister character actor for your movie? Look no further than Vincent Cassel. The guy just oozes malevolence. It seems only fair that, given his character's celluloid misdeeds, sooner or later he'd get the short end of the stick and have to atone for his movie sins. And atone he will in the upcoming flick The Monk.
Variety reports that Cassel will topline in the film, which depicts the rise and tragic downfall of Capucin Ambrosio, a respected Spanish monk. The Monk is an 18th Century-set tale based on Matthew Lewis' Gothic novel.
