DON Part 101

Dav Pech review :

A rehash of Amitabh Bachchan's super hit Don (1978), Kawal Sharma's Dav Pech had Jeetendra in double role as the village simpleton Bajrangi and the city chor called Sikandar.

'Devta haseeno ka. Aashiqui ka Ghulam. Khud ka muqaddar likhne wala. Sikandar mera naam.'

Jeetu danced to this Anu Malik's composition introducing his character. Prem Chopra and Shakti Kapoor played his professional rivals while Bhanupriya was the undercover cop who plants Bajrangi in place of Sikandar. She even got a seduction wala song like Helen did in Don.

A typical 80s fare, Dav Pech had lot of maar dhaad, attempted rape and few needless songs. There was even a much coveted diary which had many secrets stored in it.

Director Kawal Sharma was riding high on success of his multistarrer Jeete Hain Shaan Se (1987) which is memorable for its 'Julie Julie' item number. Sadly, Dav Pech couldnt recreate the success of that movie and fared badly at the box office.

I saw Dav Pech at Badal Bijlee cinema, Matunga in a half full auditorium. Clearly, the audience on cusp of 90s, had outgrown the formula of doppelganger impersonating a gangster. This was a no show from day one!!
