A hidden gem

I know, I get it, I understand, these seasons are not known as the best but rewatching this episode I must say this is a diamond in the rough! I mean this one truly made me laugh, good story arc, the plot flows well, and it's great to see a Santa's Little Helper centric episode after a long absence. I am surprised it has a low rating.

Too many surreal gags

"Stop, or My Dog Will Shoot!" is an episode that is a bit frivolous and relies heavily on comedic gags that feel very surreal. Normally, this isn't an issue for me as long as it's not done too frequently, but the problem is that they do it for most of the episode here; although I recognize that I found the joke funny when they take the police dolphin to Cletus' house for a domestic altercation. Additionally, the ending is very cruel, even though it was done to preserve the series' status quo, they could have done it in a way that was proportional to the audience's expectations, but instead they opted for an easy and disproportionately cruel ending.
