Back at the end of December 2023, just two days after the 25th anniversary of the release of director Robert Rodriguez‘s alien invasion horror film The Faculty (watch it Here), which reached theatres on December 25, 1998, scooper Daniel Richtman has revealed on his Patreon page that Rodriguez was on board to produce a remake of The Faculty. Now, thirteen months later, Variety has finally confirmed that scoop – and they have also revealed that the screenplay for the remake is being written by Drew Hancock, writer/director of the sci-fi thriller Companion, which reaches theatres tomorrow. JoBlo’s own Tyler Nichols already had the chance to see Companion and gave it a 9/10 review that can be read Here.
Rodriguez directed the original The Faculty from a screenplay by Scream writer Kevin Williamson (working from a story by David Wechter and Bruce Kimmel). The film has the following synopsis: To the students at Harrington High,...

Across the past few decades, Dan Harmon has garnered a progressively thriving following, and his best TV shows reveal exactly why he has such a devoted fanbase. Whether he's writing, directing, or appearing in front of the camera, Harmon's distinct creative voice shows through within every project he's involved with. With his earliest credits popping up in the late '90s, Harmon has a significant number of projects under his belt spanning an over twenty-year career.
In the 2020s, Dan Harmon is most known for specific shows like Community and Rick and Morty, which are both considered among the best comedies of the 21st century. However, Harmon didn't jump from obscurity straight to helming two of the most successful shows of the last few decades. While many of Harmon's highest regarded works are among his most popular, he has also been involved with numerous lesser-known cult classics. As the...

The sci-fi thriller Companion is coming our way from writer/director Drew Hancock and the team behind the 2022 horror hit Barbarian, but even though more than a year has passed since the project assembled its cast and went into production, we have known very little about it… until today. It has managed to stay shrouded in secrecy all this time, but now a trailer has dropped online that reveals what’s actually going on in the movie – and I can see why star Jack Quaid (Scream 2022) has advised potential viewers to avoid the trailer. But if you want to know what Companion is about, go ahead and take a look at the trailer embedded above.
There’s an official synopsis that doesn’t give away anything about the characters or what they’re up to: New Line Cinema—the studio that brought you The Notebook—and the unhinged creators...

The sci-fi thriller Companion is coming our way from writer/director Drew Hancock and the team behind the 2022 horror hit Barbarian, but even though over a year has passed since the project assembled its cast and went into production, we still know very little about it. It has managed to stay shrouded in secrecy all this time… and star Jack Quaid (Scream 2022) says that’s exactly how it should be. A teaser trailer for the film made its online a while back, and Quaid feels that’s all someone should see of the movie before it reaches theatres on January 31, 2025. If someone has already made the decision to see the movie, he advises them to avoid the next trailer when it’s released.

Update: Warner Bros. has delayed the release of Companion by three weeks, pushing it back to January 31, 2025, the date they had previously reserved for Mickey 17. That film has now moved to April.

Earlier this week, New Line Cinema unveiled a teaser trailer for the sci-fi thriller Companion, which is coming our way from writer/director Drew Hancock and the team behind the 2022 horror hit Barbarian. Now, The Hollywood Reporter has learned that Hancock has signed on to write and direct a supernatural horror film called My Wife and I Bought a Ranch for Amazon MGM Studios.
My Wife and I Bought a Ranch is based on a short story by Matt Query that first appeared on Reddit. Working with his brother Harrison, Query later expanded the story to novel length, and the novel was published with the title Old Country. Hancock’s adaptation will follow a couple who move into their dream home in Idaho only to discover that a malevolent spirit inhabits their valley. This is the second time we’ve heard of a Query novel adaptation this year, as Pet Sematary: Bloodlines...

It has managed to stay shrouded in secrecy all this time. Which is a good thing, since its release date is still several months away. Deadline broke the news that Companion won’t be reaching theatres (including IMAX screens) until January 10, 2025.
That release date gives Companion a one week head-start on Blumhouse Productions and director Leigh Whannell’s reboot of the classic Universal Monsters property Wolf Man.

Now she’s continuing to prove it with her career choices, as The Hollywood Reporter has revealed that she’s following up The Boogeyman by signing on to star in the sci-fi thriller Companion, which is coming our way from writer/director Drew Hancock and the team behind last year’s horror hit Barbarian.

Megan Suri, who will soon be seen in both the final season of the Netflix series Never Have I Ever and the horror film It Lives Inside, has signed on to join Jack Quaid (Scream 2022) in the cast of the sci-fi thriller Companion, which is coming our way from writer/director Drew Hancock and the team that was behind the horror hit Barbarian. New Line came out the winner in a bidding war over Cregger’s next film, a mysterious horror project called Weapons. The executives at New Line Cinema were clearly blown away by last year’s horror release Barbarian (watch it Here) – which was distributed by 20th Century Studios – as they have made it very clear over the last week that they are eager to be in business with the creative team behind that film. They made an eight figure deal with writer/director Zach Cregger to ensure that his next movie – something called Weapons – will be a New Line Cinema project. They signed a first look deal with Barbarian producers BoulderLight Pictures so they will develop high concept genre properties for the company. And now The Hollywood Reporter has broken the news that New Line Cinema has put a thriller called Companion on the fast track to production, with Cregger producing alongside BoulderLight and Vertigo’s Roy Lee.

Years before a deluge of women started speaking out about Bill Cosby’s behavior off-screen, the then-beloved comedian revealed that there were some things he didn’t find particularly funny — specifically, the web series “House of Cosbys,” an absurdist animated series created by a young Justin Roiland.
Originally produced in 2005, “House of Cosbys” was one of the first major successes for Channel 101, the screening series/digital platform created by Dan Harmon and Rob Schrab. “Channel 101” featured a number of comedy stars, including Jack Black, Sarah Silverman, and The Lonely Island’s Andy Samberg, Akiva Schaffer, and Jorma Taccone – while also leading to the collaboration between Harmon and Roiland that would eventually give birth to “Rick and Morty.”
It also, however, attracted the ire of Cosby, who for some reason didn’t see the humor in the show. “Cosbys” focused on Mitchell (voiced by Jeff B. Davis, who would...

Many people felt that NBC's Community lost something after series creator Dan Harmon got fired (he's since returned to the helm, of course, for the show’s upcoming season), but they were at a loss to describe precisely what that "something" was. Harmon's brand of controlled insanity was, and still is, a bit mysterious: sweet and dark, practiced and volatile. The new animated series Rick and Morty, about a hapless dork of a teenager and his alcoholic science wizard granddad, won't get us any closer to a workable definition of Harmon's genius, but at least it clarifies that the unhinged quality that Community once had wasn't accidental. Rick and Morty, which debuts on Adult Swim at 10:30 tonight, is a team-up between Harmon and co-creator Justin Roiland, a voice actor, producer, writer, and director on quite a few animated shows, including Adventure Time, Gravity Falls, and Acceptable TV. If the...

Dan Harmon is no longer executive producer and showrunner of “Community.” Sony Television and NBC executives have officially replaced him with former “Happy Endings” writers Moses Port and David Guarascio. The series that launched countless animated GIFs, regular episode recaps, and references to “the darkest timeline” will be something different entirely when season four starts on Friday nights. Harmon was the creative force who resisted mainstream appeal, so it stands to reason that the new showrunners, hand-picked from Sony’s stable, are the more cooperative alternative. In other words: change (Chang) is coming to Greendale.
Harmon was acclaimed by critics and fans for the series’ authorial voice, praising him among the upper echelon of current TV creators. The distinction put Harmon in a league with the much-discussed Matthew Weiner (“Mad Men”), Vince Gilligan (“Breaking Bad”), Lena Dunham (“Girls”), and Louis Ck (“Louie”), among others. Writers that have been granted the...

Community creator Dan Harmon discusses the Community Season 2 DVD, the upcoming third season, paintball, and much more.
Writer Dan Harmon certainly had an intriguing career before creating my favorite comedy on TV, Community. From big-screen movies such as Monster House to co-creating TV shows such as The Sarah Silverman Program, Acceptable TV and Channel 101, and even writing for The Academy Awards, Dan Harmon has proven he is a man of many diverse talents. He created the fantastic series Community based off his own experiences at Glendale Community College in Los Angeles, an idea which spawned one of the funniest and smartest shows on television today. I recently had the privilege of speaking with Dan Harmon to promote both Community: The Complete Second Season DVD release, which hits the shelves on September 6, and Season 3 of Community, which debuts on Thursday, September 22 at 8 Pm Et on NBC. Here's what he had to say below.

MTV launching companion sites to TV franchises
MTV Networks Music and Logo Group is launching more than 20 new online channels next year, the company said Monday.
Called "hyper programmed" online experiences or vertical channels, the sites will target niche audiences by mixing programming with user-generated content.
The channels -- many of which are companion sites to the group's existing television franchises such as MTV's My Super Sweet 16 and VH1's Department of Acceptable Media -- are expected to launch in the first and second quarter.
"We're excited about these new channels because they are part of what the MTV Music Group has historically been about: meeting consumers' tastes," said Brian Graden, president of entertainment at MTV Networks Music Group and president of Logo.
This year, in an effort to experiment with these type of online channels, VH1 launched BestWeekEver.tv as a companion outlet to its series Best Week Ever. The site offers exclusive mobile and video content. In addition, this fall MTV launched Virtual Laguna Beach, which is tied to the popular TV series.
