Well acted and directed. Where exactly was it shot? Looked like Hamilton to me, but I'm a west-coaster so I don't know for sure. Hope there's more of the same where this came from! I particularly liked the writing on this show, it was real, not stilted and very believable. Cinematography was also impressive with a gritty (but not overly so) feeling to it....very "real". Characters were strong and held my attention throughout both episodes. Last, but not least, well edited and kept my attention riveted without calling attention to "tricky" stuff. All around very well done! Congratulations Canada on a good show and also good to see that most lead actors were Canadians too.
Now, I first had this movie come to my attention because I like Stana Katic, who some of you might know from the CASTLE TV show and she's in this movie. A friend (who I no longer see) let me watch this shortly after it first aired on his DVR in early 2008. The acting was very good to watch. They felt real, and did a wonderful job portraying the characters. The movie didn't feel like a made up story-line that goes "over the top". It had a realistic feel to it which was very satisfying.
My only regret is that the original airing was as a two-part miniseries (2 hrs each part, which included commercials) which led to a 4 hour movie (minus about an hour of commercials, more or less). I purchased this DVD, which is only half that length (half of 3 hours). Yes, it did get the most important scenes in it, but a lot of little stuff got left out that was fun to watch and added to the characters. For example, there were more "little scenes" to help build up the friendship between Patrick and Jamie, and go into more detail about the challenges and frustrations they had with both the corruption in the department as well as Jamie's addiction. But because it didn't contribute directly to the main plot, some of it isn't on this DVD.
Having said that, I do enjoy this DVD and it is one that I go back and watch every so often. If you might be thinking "Oh, it's from Canada, it's probably a B movie", you'd be wrong. I have two replies to that. First, it's amazing how many top actors out there are from Canada. And secondly, whether you purchase the DVD (as I did), or watch it streaming via AMAZON VIDEOS, you'll be glad you did. (Plus, I got to watch more Stana! If only she was one of the two main leads in the movie!)
