Yesterday, we shared the news that Scream Factory’s line-up of February 2025 4K releases consists of Ghosts of Mars (2001), Humanoids from the Deep (1980), Galaxy of Terror (1981), and Sick (2022). The product pre-order pages for those releases have since all gone up on the Scream Factory website – and the Sick page reveals that the movie is coming to 4K and Blu-ray with three audio commentaries and multiple interviews! Last December, 23-year-old August Ames died by suicide in a park in California’s San Fernando Valley. Ames was more than an adult film actress; she was a legit porn star. In her four years working in the industry, she performed in close to 300 scenes and amassed over 600,000 Twitter followers. After she made controversial and polarizing statements about gay porn actors that many found homophobic, she received intense cyberbullying, which revealed a schism between the gay and straight communities in the porn industry. It ended in Ames (real name Mercedes Grabowski) taking her own life.

And thus, a new era began.

Buffy Season Four is a controversial Season amongst fans. To put it simply – it’s not the favourite for many. This was a bit of an interesting year for the show – for one thing, it lost two of its principle cast members to a newly launched spin-off, the familiar high school location was no more and the characters were officially adults. Times were moving on for Buffy, and the things that we had gotten used to were going to have to change.

Thus, the show moved onto the life of a Slayer at College, and the adventures that ensued. Adventures that are a little, well, daft at times. Don’t get me wrong – Season Four is by no means a failure, and does hit some serious heights on occasion. If anything, it lacks the consistency of Season Three and the brilliance of Season Two.

Once upon a time, there was a goofy little show called Buffy the Vampire Slayer. It’s first TV outing, a mid-season replacement that only contained 12 episodes, premiered to mixed responses. Whilst the potential was clearly there, it was easy to write it off as just a little too silly, a little too… odd. Nevertheless, it was granted a Season Two, which premiered on September 15th, 1997.

And this is where shit got serious.

New York, Apr 0: Porn stars may feel gratified, as a new study suggests that pornography's effects on young people may be minimal.

The study did not show a direct correlation between viewing porn and going out and attempting wild sex acts in real life, suggesting porn is only one factor among many that may influence the sexual behaviors of young people, according to Time.com.

Researchers in the Netherlands conducted an online survey of 4,600 people between ages 15-25 and discovered that 90 percent of the males and nearly half of females had used porn in the previous 12 months.

Dana Vespoli, a performer and director with Sweetheart Video and Evil Angel, said the study demonstrates that blaming porn for society's ills.

The porn industry is back in business - an adult film actor who initially tested HIV positive has been found not to have the deadly virus.

The industry ground to a halt on 27 August when officials at trade group the Free Speech Coalition learned of the health scare, causing bosses at leading firms such as Hustler and Evil Angel to shut down all production in California.

The star in question underwent further testing to confirm the results, but he has now been cleared of the disease.

Free Speech Coalition executive director Diane Duke says, "The industry will be abundantly cautious as we try to nail down the reasons for what now appears to have been a false positive result on a previous test."...

Porn film production in Los Angeles has temporarily shut down after an actor tested HIV positive.

According to trade group the Free Speech Coalition, Hustler and Evil Angel are among the industry leaders who have halted production until further testing can confirm the results.

Officials at the Canoga Park-based porn industry trade group first became aware of the possible HIV case on Saturday and immediately notified adult film production companies across the San Fernando Valley, one of the most prevalent areas of porn production in America.

Today, it’s a Panamanian comedy titled Chance, which tells the story of Toña and Paquita, the long-mistreated maids for the aristocratic González-Dubois family, who have grown tired their situation, and decide to turn the tables on their employer.

Directed by Abner Benaim, and starring Rosa Isabel Lorenzo and Aida Morales as Toña and Paquita, the maids, the film has screened in Panama, Colombia, Spain and Cuba. This, however, will be its New York premiere.

Today, it’s a horror film title that’s new to me titled Evil Angel – a contemporary take on the ancient myth of Lilith, which stars Ving Rhames in a role we rarely see him in, as John Carruthers, described as a tough and resourceful detective, in hot pursuit of a sexy and seductive villainess/murderer.

Evil Angel screens tomorrow, December 2nd, and Saturday, December 4th (both at 8:30Pm) at the Anthology Film Archives theater.

Evil Angel was shown at the Nevermore Film Festival in February and currently the film is moving around on the film festival circuit. The film has its own website listed below and Evil Angel gets a rare review here. This review will argue the benefits of explaining supernatural elements early. Making the villain's powers, modus operandi, and motivations known to the viewer at the beginning of a film makes movie watching more enjoyable. Evil Angel skips Lilith's (villain) reasons for causing so much chaos, but the film really starts to become enjoyable halfway in, or through a second viewing.

Lilith is already killing in the first few frames of the film and viewers will be wondering how she is changing from body to body. Lilith is the first wife of Adam from the Garden of Eve. Adam rejected Lilith in favour of Eve and ever since this event Lilith has been hell bent on revenge.

Evil Angel is one of a few films that this reviewer is looking forward to watching in 2010 (wink, wink - producer send me a screener). The film plays at the Nevermore Film Festival in a few days, and more importantly a trailer, that is action packed is available now. Very graphic, bloody, and sexy, the first trailer for Evil Angel shows what a horror movie is supposed to be, brutal and well-written. The story focuses on the mythical character Lilith, who was Adam's first bride. Rejected by Adam, Lilith goes on a rampage and takes out her frustrations on Adam's children, or the many characters in the film. Although the trailer is off-site, at the sales agency, it is worth checking out (very not safe for work)!

Evil Angel will be at the Nevermore Film Festival beginning Saturday, February 20th at 7:00pm. This film festival has been going strong for 10 years now and 2010 will be even more dynamic and better for this movie market that begins February 19. On October 24th, The Terror Film Festival Claw Awards took place at the Ethical Society Building on the famous Rittenhouse Square of Philadelphia.

The 4th season brought in the most astounding talent from all over the USA, as well as, the world. The 2009 Freak Show Horror Film Festival took place this past weekend in Orlando, and Festival Director Robert J. Massetti just hit Fango with the full list of winners from the latest event.

The three day celebration of the best in independent horror was highlighted by the World Premieres of Herschell Gordon Lewis' The Uh-oh Show (formerly Grim Fairy Tale) and The Black Waters Of Echo's Pond.

Attending the festival were Danielle Harris (Halloween) who starred in two films screening at the festival that included Blood Night and The Black Waters Of Echo's Pond, the “Baby Sitter Twins” Elise and Electra Avellan, and producers and directors of a majority of films that screened at the festival. The festival ended on a high note as an elaborate awards ceremony was topped off by Herschell Gordon Lewis who received the festivals Lifetime Achievement Award to a standing ovation. The 2009 Shriekfest Film Festival has released an update to its recently announced list of film and screenplay finalists; this time, it's a rundown of some of the talent scheduled to be involved in the event in order to represent their films.

The festival's lineup includes such talent as Jeffrey Combs in "Dark House", Ving Rhames in "Evil Angel", Dameon Clarke and Matthew Gray Gubler in "How to Be a Serial Killer", Dean Cain in "Maneater", John Carpenter, George A. It's time to see if your shorts and features made the cut - Shriekfest 2009, which runs October 1st-4th, 2009, has released the titles of those films that have made its 2009 Finalists list.

The judges must be busy with the long list of titles that have made it thus far. Included among them is a short film from some of our very own, "Thirsty", directed by Andrew Kasch, written by Joe Knetter, screenplay by David Rosiak, shot by Buz Wallick, and starring Joe Lynch and Tiffany Shepis. I've seen the film and it's a riot; let's hope the judges agree!

John Frizzell is doing the score for Legion, an apocalyptic action flick starring Dennis Quaid, Paul Bettany, Kevin Durand, Doug Jones and Kate Walsh. The composer, who is best known for his big orchestral scores for Alien: Resurrection and Dante's Peak as well as the quirkier Office Space, has scored a lot of dark subjects lately, including Evil Angel, The Lodger and 100 Feet. Legion is directed by Scott Charles Stewart and produced by David Lancaster and Michel Litvak for release in January 2010 by Screen Gems. The story is about about a group of people who, after a biblical apocalypse, discover that a young woman is pregnant with the messiah.

**Please Note: This will be at the top for a while; be sure to scroll down for updated news stories!** Horror may currently be in a slump, but the 2008 American Film Market has shown a huge light at the end of the tunnel. This year showcased a record number of horror titles and Dread Central was on hand to catch a great deal of them. Some were good, some were bad but all showed that this genre still has plenty of lifeblood left. Many exhibitors were also kind enough to show us movie promos, while others coldly showed us the door (Lesbian Vampire Killers, I’m looking at you). The market will present 513 films, including 102 world premieres and 375 market premieres.

In addition to Freeman and Walken, the Yari Film Group's "Maiden" stars William H. Macy; "Killing Room," from ContentFilm International, stars Chloe Sevigny, Nick Cannon and Peter Stormare along with Hutton; Qed International's "Powder Blue" boasts a cast that includes Whitaker, Jessica Biel, Kris Kristofferson, Ray Liotta and Patrick Swayze.

John Frizzell has recently recorded his orchestral score for The Lodger, David Ondaatje's film which is based on the novel by Marie Belloc Lowndes, previously reworked for the silver screen by Alfred Hitchcock in 1927. Rachael Leigh Cook, Simon Baker and Shane West star in the thriller where a couple begin to suspect that the young and mysterious man who rents their room is a psychotic murderer.
