Cameron Diaz's Comeback Movie Back in Action Debuts With Unfortunate Rotten Tomatoes Score
Image
Cameron Diaz is one of the most popular comedy and drama actors, and her films grossed billions at the box office. However, the actress stepped out of the spotlight to focus on her family for a decade and her comeback movie is not the success she'd hoped.

Netflix's Back in Action, where she stars with Jamie Foxx, is Diaz's first film in 10 years. The movie premiered on the platform on Jan. 17, and its debut score has just been unveiled. Out of 23 reviews, Back in Action has an abysmal 26% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes, which might fluctuate as more reviews come in. The audience score is currently not available, as there are fewer than 50 ratings at the time of publishing.

What's on TV tonight, Dec. 20, 2024?
Image
Sports, Christmas content, and reruns. That’s what we have in store on broadcast TV right now. That’s especially the case for broadcast TV tonight, Friday, Dec. 20.

It’s Friday, but the CBS dramas are taking a break. In fact, we have some bad news when it comes to Blue Bloods, as the show aired its series finale last Friday. Swat and Fire Country will be back in January, but now it’s time for CBS to air its holiday programming.

National Christmas Tree Lighting, College Basketball, and more

CBS will kick off its holiday programming in style. The network will start with the National Christmas Tree Lighting, which is a favorite event for many, with plenty of songs being played. Adam Blackstone, Stephen Sanchez, and James Taylor are among those singing some holiday favorites throughout the hour.

After that, it’s time for Josh Groban & Friends Go Home for the Holidays.

Happy's Place is now on a break for the rest of 2024 (but there is some good news)
Image
It’s that time of year where a lot of shows go on their winter breaks. Happy’s Place has now aired its last episode of 2024, but there is some good news.

That’s right; there are no more new episodes of Happy’s Place in 2024. In a little bit of good news, there is a rerun on Friday, Dec. 20. This certainly suggests that NBC is happy with the series and wants to keep people tuning in. The episode will follow the airing of Shrek the Halls on the network.

What about the return date, though? We have some great news about that.

Why is Happy’s Place now on a break?

If NBC is happy enough with the show to put on reruns, why is the show taking a break? Well, this is just the time of year. All broadcast networks put a hold on new episodes of their shows this time of year,...

What's on TV tonight, Dec. 11, 2024?
Image
Yes, a lot of shows are on their winter breaks now. No, that doesn’t mean there’s nothing to watch on TV tonight, Wednesday, Dec. 11.

The broadcast networks still have a bunch of shows to check out. Fox still has its usual lineup, and ABC is packed with celebrity specials to keep you entertained. There’s also the start of the end of Survivor season 47!

Survivor, The Masked Singer, and more

CBS has the beginning of the end of another season of Survivor. The series continues to be a huge hit for the network, and this season has been no different. CBS is giving this season a two-part finale, and both parts will be two hours long. Yes, the first half of the Survivor season 47 finale airs tonight, Wednesday, Dec. 11. We’re sure for some major moments as we go into the second half next week.

Meanwhile, Fox brings...

Fall finale date may frustrate fans of Chicago Med, Chicago Fire, and Chicago P.D. as long hiatus begins
Oliver Platt, Steven Weber, Marlyne Barrett, S. Epatha Merkerson, and Jessy Schram in Chicago Med (2015)
Chicago Med, Chicago Fire, and Chicago P.D. will soon begin their long winter hiatus at NBC. This news won’t please some fans.

The One Chicago shows returned in September with new seasons. Each of the NBC dramas brings in millions of viewers every Wednesday night.

As winter arrives each year, the Chicago shows go on hiatus until returning in mid-winter or early spring.

The winter hiatus is expected for nearly every scripted show, but it will seem even longer this time.

The good news is that previous episodes from Chicago Med Season 10, Chicago Fire Season 13, and Chicago P.D. Season 12 will be streaming on Peacock.

We will likely see a few cliffhangers, especially with each show building toward some important stories. The Chicago-based dramas love heading into the breaks with open-ended stories with characters at risk of being killed.

When are the fall finales for Med, Fire, and P.D.

Every Shrek and Puss in Boots Movie in Chronological & Release Order
Image
The Shrek franchise has become one of the most revered animated series of films from the 2000s. Its animation and story drew kids in and let them enjoy its vibrant fantasy world, and the cleverly hidden jokes left something for adults to enjoy, too. Shrek remains a staple of pop culture and was recently added to the Library of Congress, further cementing how important Shrek is in animated history. Even though the first movie is over 20 years old, fans still celebrate its witty jokes and lovable story, and a fifth movie is on its way.

The main character "got green for Christmas" in Shrek the Halls and was Scared Shrekless for Halloween (both 30-minute TV specials), and the franchise continued with Puss in Boots. Its sequel, The Last Wish, was released to rave reviews, bringing the beloved Puss in Boots back to the big screen in what could be the...

‘Shrek 5’ set for Summer 2026
Image
DreamWorks Animation has more green in its future.

The studio announced on Tuesday that the beloved franchise “Shrek” is coming back to theaters with a fifth installment. What’s more, “Shrek 5” has planted its flag on a date two years hence—July 1, 2026, to be precise. The studio made its declaration via social media, deploying Smash Mouth’s “All Star” and its earworm herald of “someBODY once told me.” An ogre-ifi-ed numeral 5 then did a little dance.

Not too Far, Far Away… @Shrek 5 is coming to theaters on July 1, 2026 with Mike Myers, Eddie Murphy, and Cameron Diaz. pic.twitter.com/3j6ctXpPGu

— DreamWorks Animation (@Dreamworks) July 9, 2024

Confirmed for the voices are Mike Myers, the titular gassy ogre with a pure heart, Cameron Diaz as his beloved Princess Fiona, and Eddie Murphy as Donkey, the wisecracking donkey. It is unclear if Antonio Banderas, who voices Puss in Boots, will make an appearance.

The four Shrek movies are all confirmed for 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray in the UK, with extra features too. More here.

While DreamWorks Animation and Universal Pictures make their minds up as to whether we’ll see a fifth adventure in the Shrek series of movies, the first four films are now being bundled together on 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray.

Some Shrek films have already made it to the format, but we’re now getting the original, Shrek 2, Shrek The Third and Shrek Forever After in a 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray set in the UK.

The set has been given a release date by Universal of 10th June 2024, and it’s available for order. You can find more information on it right here.

The Correct Order To Watch The Shrek Movies
Image
It's easy to overlook just how big the "Shrek" movies are given that they are mostly a giant meme factory and a source for a controversial Scottish accent. This is a franchise that changed animation and showed DreamWorks Animation was a powerhouse that could compete with Disney and Pixar. It competed for the Palme d'Or at Cannes, the first animated film in almost 50 years to do so. It won the first Oscar for Best Animated Feature and helped cement the rise of computer animation. There is a reason this is the first animated movie of the 21st century to be selected for preservation in the National Film Registry.

Since then, "Shrek" has grown into a giant franchise, with spin-offs, musicals, and much more ... including a very popular themed rave and even custom Crocs. This is why it might be tough for casual movie watchers to keep track of which movies to watch,...

8 Best Couples In Animated Movies
Image
Animated movie couples set the standard for relationships by depicting love through triumph, perseverance, and non-perfection. Couples don't have to be perfect; they just need to be perfect for each other. These animated couples complement each other's quirky personalities and challenge each other to be better, setting healthy standards of love in animation. Their support, acceptance, and adoration move people to tears and tap into the inner lover in everyone. The relationships of these animated couples, such as Jack and Sally, Shrek and Fiona, Mr. Incredible and Elastigirl, Chel and Tulio, Sergeant Calhoun and Fix-It Felix, Kristoff and Anna, and Rapunzel and Flynn, inspire and serve as examples of love, acceptance, and emotional security. How To Watch Shrek Franchise In Order
Image
Shrek was the first film in the franchise and won the first-ever Academy Award for Best Animated Feature. Shrek's success positioned DreamWorks Animation as Pixar's main competition and spawned spinoffs and sequels. The Adventures of Puss in Boots serves as a prequel to the Shrek movies and remains one of DreamWorks' most successful streaming efforts.

Given the sheer amount of short films and spinoffs, figuring out how to watch the Shrek franchise in order can be surprisingly tough. For starters, viewers of the fairy-tale send-up can either watch the films, shorts, and series in release order or in a more narrative-driven, chronological order. Based on William Steig's picture book of the same name, the original 2001 Shrek kicked off the franchise in a memorable fashion, becoming the first-ever Academy Award for Best Animated Feature winner. Bolstered by its tongue-in-cheek humor and defining voice-over performances, Shrek was one of the year's best films — period.

Eddie Murphy down to play Donkey in another Shrek
Image
Eddie Murphy is ready to make waffles once again, as he has expressed interest in reprising his role as Donkey in the Shrek franchise.

Eddie Murphy discussed bringing back Donkey to Etalk, saying, “I’d absolutely be open if they ever came with another Shrek, I’d do it in two seconds. I love Donkey.” And why not? After all, as Murphy points out, they have continued the franchise via the character of Puss in Boots…although Murphy thinks the series should have focused on his beloved ass. “You know, they did Puss in Boots movies. I was like, They should have did a Donkey movie. Donkey is funnier than Puss in Boots. I mean, I love Puss in Boots, but he ain’t funny as the Donkey.”

But it’s not entirely up to Eddie Murphy, who says the ball is in Dreamworks’ court if they want to get Donkey and Shrek back together.

Spider-Man Animated Movie Has Found Its Miles Morales
Phil Lord
Just months after Sony Pictures confirmed that their animated Spider-Man movie will follow Miles Morales, the studio has finally found their lead voice actor. Shameik Moore (Dope) has signed on to voice this beloved character in the animated movie, with Liev Schreiber also coming aboard to voice an unspecified villain. Now that the studio is in casting mode, it remains to be seen how quickly the other roles will be filled out.

The Hollywood Reporter broke the news today, which comes just over a month after we reported that Ice Cube was being considered to voice Miles Morales' father, although his casting has yet to be confirmed. Ice Cube has previously worked with writers and producers Phil Lord and Chris Miller before, playing Captain Dickson in 21 Jump Street and 22 Jump Street. TV Ratings Report: Did Scream Queens Get a Bump?
Scream Queens is not long for this world. The Fox series was one of the more surprising renewals last year, so losing more viewers can not be a good sign.

Fox: Scream Queens (1.4 million/0.5 rating) ended flat out of encores of Ice Age Mammoth Christmas (2.6 million/0.8 rating) and New Girl (1.5 million/0.5 rating).

NBC: Michael Buble Sings & Swings (5.3 million/0.8 rating) and Tony Bennett celebrates 90 (6.7 million/0.8 rating) pulled in anemic ratings.

ABC: It was Toy Story That Time Forgot (3.4 million/0.8 rating), Shrek The Halls (3.7 million/1.0 rating) and The Year: 2016 (3.8 million/1.1 rating).

CBS: Encores of NCIS (9.8 million/1.0 rating) and Bull (6.2 million/0.8 rating) were on the menu for the eye network.

The CW: Terry Crews Saves Christmas (1 million/0.3 rating) could not save The CW from poor ratings, while Greatest Holiday Commercials Countdown 2016 (0.9 million/0.3 rating) fared just as badly.

TV Ratings Report: Football Carries a Slow Night
Ho Ho Ho! Toss me that football, yo!

With a night mostly filled with specials, comedy, and hour-long dramas that the traditional viewing public has never tuned into, football was all anybody cared about.

And that, still, wasn't anything to crow about.

NBC managed to lose an entire ratings point from the previous week for NFL Thursday Night Football and still win the week with a hefty 3.7 for the evening and about 12 million viewers throughout.

ABC took a chance on repeats of Toy Story that Time Forgot, which remained forgotten with a 0.8 and Shrek the Halls, which did a tick better with 0.9.

View Slideshow: ABC Cheat Sheet: What Will Be Canceled?

At 9, the Great American Baking Show, featuring some really ugly flat, misshapen fruity bread drew 0.9.

At 10 Notorious hauled in 0.5, down 0.4 from last week for it's finale, even though a lead had been kidnapped.

CBS lead the night with a...

ABC Announces 2015 Holiday Programming Schedule
'Tis the season to annoy everyone by using "'tis the season" way too many times when talking about holiday stuff. Halloween hasn't even happened yet, but the Christmas decorations are already taking over drug stores so ABC is just going ahead and announcing its 2015 holiday lineup. TV Ratings: NBC's 'One Direction: The TV Special' fizzles as CBS, ABC split Tuesday
Wilmer Valderrama, Rocky Carroll, Gary Cole, Katrina Law, Sean Murray, Brian Dietzen, and Diona Reasonover in NCIS : Enquêtes spéciales (2003)
Fast National ratings for Tuesday, December 23, 2014. NBC's "One Direction: The TV Special" dominated Tuesday night among females 12-17, but failed to strike a cord in any other demographic as CBS repeats and ABC holiday specials ruled a sleepy Christmas Eve eve on Tuesday. Repeats of "NCIS," NCIS: Los Angeles" and "NCIS: New Orleans" were Tuesday's most watched shows overall, while encores of "Shrek the Halls" and "Toy Story That Time Forgot" led in the key demo for ABC. And NBC's three celebrity-driven specials all did the same weak demo number and drew under 3.7 million viewers. On to the numbers... Among adults 18-49, ABC averaged a 1.1 rating for Tuesday night, edging out the 1.0 rating for CBS in the key demographic. NBC's 0.7 key demo rating, Fox's 0.5 key demo rating and the 0.3 key demo rating for The CW trailed. Overall, though, CBS cruised with an estimated 8.95 million viewers and a 5.7 rating/10 share for Tuesday primetime.

Over on NBC, One Direction’s first-ever Stateside TV special premiered to just 3.1 mil and a 0.7 (though it gave the Peacock a 7 percent boost among female teens). Holiday special encores from Michael Buble and Kelly Clarkson...

Jeffrey Katzenberg Promises “Another Chapter in the Shrek Series”; Visitor Attraction Shrek’S Far Far Away Adventure to Open Summer 2015 in London
Shrek Forever After grossed a series low $239 million domestic in 2010, but still earned over $750 million worldwide to bring the Shrek series total box office to $2.9 billion. For DreamWorks Animation CEO Jeffrey Katzenberg, that's cause to take a break but not give up the golden goose forever (no matter what this Blu-ray box set impiles). In an upcoming interview with Fox Business Network [via Variety], Katzenberg remarked: “We like to let them have a little bit of time to rest. But I think you can be confident that we’ll have another chapter in the Shrek series. We’re not finished, and more importantly, neither is he.” The next chapter could be a television special like 2007's Shrek the Halls, but I expect to see another Shrek movie in my lifetime, if only to reach $3 billion. More Shrek news after the jump. Variety also reports that DreamWorks and Merlin Entertainment will build a...

TV Ratings: 'Hollywood Game Night' Soft in Holiday Return
With Espn's coverage of Monday Night Football airing on affiliates in Atlanta (ABC) and San Francisco (CBS), both networks are subject to adjustments in final returns. But as it stands, ABC topped the night with holiday specials Shrek the Halls, A Chipmunk Christmas and the finale of The Great Christmas Light Fight (1.4 rating adults 18-49). The latter, up 40 percent from its last showing, gave the network a 1.3 adults rating and 5.1 million viewers for the night. TV ratings: 'The Sing-Off' finale drops Monday, 'Christmas Light Fight' finishes higher
Fast National ratings for Monday, Dec. 23, 2013

"The Sing-Off" went out on a low note Monday, recording the smallest finale in its four seasons on NBC. It might, however, still end up as the night's top show in adults 18-49.

That honor currently belongs to ABC's finale of "The Great Christmas Light Fight" and reruns of "2 Broke Girls" and "Mike & Molly" on CBS. Both of those networks, however, had local pre-emptions for the "Monday Night Football" game, so their ratings may come down in the final nationals.

The only other original show on Monday was a special "Hollywood Game Night" on NBC, which finished second in its hour in adults 18-49.

ABC currently stands at 5.05 million viewers and a 2.9 rating/5 share in households, pending updates for the NFL pre-emption. CBS (4.9 million, 3.1/5) is second, also pending updates. NBC averaged 4.6 million viewers and a 2.9/5, followed by Fox (2.15 million, 1.4/2) and The CW (979,000, 0.7/1).

Among adults...

Ratings: The Sing-Off Slips to a Finale Low, Hollywood Game Night Returns Steady
Jane Lynch in Hollywood Game Night (2013)
The Sing-Off‘s Season 4 finale was watched by 5.2 million total people and scored a 1.3 rating on Christmas Eve Eve, down sharply week-to-week (7.3 mil/2.0) and off 13 and 19 percent from its previous, circa-Nov. 2011 closer, thus hitting a series low for a finale.

Leading out of that, a holiday edition of Hollywood Game Night – in which Rachel Bilson rocked the bonus round like a boss — drew 3.5 mil and a 1.0, up 25 percent in audience and flat in the demo versus its Aug. 30 Season 1 finale. (Season 2 kicks off Monday, Jan. 20.)

'Home Alone,' 'A Christmas Story,' 'Wizard of Oz': Favorite Christmas movies to enjoy this holiday
Maybe you've already had your fill of holiday programming, but this is when it gets serious.

With Christmas coming at midweek this year, that still leaves several days for networks to offer signs of the season ... some of which have been shown already this year but still are hugely appropriate for viewing. And maybe even more so, the closer to the actual holiday it gets.

Zap2it has selected a sampling of some of the home-screen gifts being presented in the coming days.

"The Wizard of Oz" (Sunday, Dec. 22, TNT): It had a 3-D and IMAX retrofitting recently, but there's something comforting about going "Over the Rainbow" with the Judy Garland-starring 1939 classic at home.

"Home Alone" (Sunday, AMC): Young Kevin (Macaulay Culkin) makes things tough for thieves (Joe Pesci, Daniel Stern) who invade his house in this 1990 family favorite.

"The Santa Clause" (Sunday, ABC Family): Tim Allen...

Garth Brooks concert tops Friday, doubles Gaga
Garth Brooks
Garth Brooks has been playing to sold-out crowds for last four years in Las Vegas. On Friday, the country legend proved he can still draw an impressive national TV audience too.

CBS’ two-hour telecast of Garth Brooks, Live From Las Vegas delivered 8.7 million viewers and a 1.8 rating among adults 18-49. That’s double the viewers and adult demo rating of a certain other music artist’s prime-time special this week — Lady Gaga’s romp with the Muppets, which aired on Thursday. Brooks easily had the highest-rated and most-watched show among the broadcasters last night. Competition was soft, to be sure,...
