An eight-hour drama inspired by Carolyn Arnold’s “Madison Knight” detective novels is being developed by Muse Entertainment and Pop Fiction Entertainment.
Hélène Joy will star as Madison Knight, a daring detective who works to investigate criminals throughout the series. Orion Lee (“First Cow”) will portray Knight’s work partner, Detective Steven Hung. The action-packed crime drama is set on both the Pacific coastline of Sydney, Australia and the wilderness of British Columbia, Canada.
“As I read the books, I was immediately taken with Madison as a leading female character. She is unapologetic, unpredictable and deeply flawed. An extremely reluctant heroine if you will. What I love most is her sardonic nature and deeply sarcastic sense of humor. She doesn’t suffer fools and has little time for small talk,” said Joy, on her new role of Knight, in a statement.
Australian writer Justin Monjo and Canadian writer Lynn Coady are developing the series.

He continued, “Also the beauty that is being taken out of our cities, towns and parks will be greatly missed and never able to be comparably replaced!

With the season coming to a close on CBC darling, Murdoch Mysteries, and new hitting recently that Cracked and Arctic Air will not be returning, CBC has announced several renewals, and a few new shows.
Murdoch Mysteries and Dragon’s Den are the clear no-brainers of the situation, but we’ve got a full list, plus some pretty hot new efforts.
Schitt’s Creek will be coming your way, a show co-created by Eugene Levy and Dan Levy, who star with Catherine O’Hara, and that ought to be all you need to know about this one. Also added to the schedule is new show Strange Empire. Reportedly a very dark show, it takes place in western frontier town and follows the women who find themselves stranded when all the men suddenly disappear.

Syfy launches its new werewolf series "Bitten" tonight, and Steve Lund, who portrays flirtatious and playful werewolf Nick Sorrento, sat down with Dread Central to talk about his character, his co-stars, and what's in store for audiences. We have the details along with a new trailer!
We asked him to briefly describe the show and Nick. "[It] is based on the Canadian novel series Women of the Otherworld, written by Kelley Armstrong, who is a Toronto-based novelist," Lund said. "The story centers around the only non-male werewolf, Elena Michaels, and follows her through her battle between her werewolf life and her desire to have a normal human life."
"My character is Nick Sorrentino, who is one of the resident werewolves at the werewolf headquarters, Stonehaven, and my family has been in the werewolf game for generations. My grandfather was a former pack alpha, and my father is sort of the accountant for the group.

With its new werewolf series debuting tonight, Syfy recently held a press call with star Laura Vandervoort and Kelley Armstrong, author of the Women of the Otherworld series on which the show is based; and we have the Top 6 Things You Should Know About "Bitten" before watching the premiere.
Star Laura Vandervoort really does know martial arts.
Vandervoort elaborates: I grew up doing martial arts. So Elena feels like the other part of me. I relate to so much about her. Obviously not the werewolf part, but the fact that she can take care of herself physically... the writers [even] wrote in some extra hand-to-hand combat scenes. And especially in the finale -- we have this epic fight that I just had a great time doing. We had great stunt coordinators that help us incorporate the animalistic side to the fighting. It wasn't a part of the audition, but I think...

In the 20 years since the release of their platinum-selling debut album "Picture Of Health," Canadian rock band the Headstones have seen the highs and lows of the music business, literally and figuratively.
Just last week, the Headstones took one giant step towards reclaiming their rightful Canadian rock crown with the release of their first studio album in more than a decade, "Love + Fury." "Love + Fury" embraces the group's long-standing ethos of no-holds-barred rock 'n' roll. In an age of pre-manufactured pop idols, one-hit wonders and monkey-toting superstars, the world needs them more than ever.
Rejuvenated by the band's return to the concert stage in February 2011, Headstones lead singer (and "Flashpoint" actor) Hugh Dillon suddenly wondered why it had taken them so long to get back together.

"Love + Fury" embraces the group's long-standing ethos of no-holds-barred rock 'n' roll.
"I had forgotten all about the stuff that I despised about the music business," Dillon tells HuffPost. "It wasn't about putting the band back...

Murdoch Mysteries is one of the best gems to come out of Canadian television in quite a while, and the fourth season is now available on Blu-Ray. Whether you’re a fan already, or new to the show, I have a great giveaway to go along with this release. The first season and the fourth season on Blu-Ray.
The show takes place in Toronto in 1895, and features William Murdoch as a detective/scientist who is keen on incorporating the latest techniques (including the “finger marks” he is so fond of) into his investigations.
Season 4 kicks off with Murdoch butting heads with the new pathologist who has taken Dr. Ogden’s place. A body has been dismembered, and Murdoch has to find some answers using only a couple of pieces of a body which have been encased in cement. It starts off the season well, and gives us the opportunity to miss Dr.

Exclusive: I hear that Ion Television has renewed Canadian-produced cop drama Flashpoint for a fifth season. The broadcast network is picking up all 13 episodes of the series’ fifth season, set to begin production in February 2012. Flashpoint, Canada’s most-watched drama series, has already been renewed north of the border by CTV with a 13-episode fifth-season order. Flashpoint was the first of the recent wave of Canadian scripted series to launch successfully in the U.S. when it premiered on CBS in 2008. Earlier this year, it became the first of the Canadian imports to land a U.S. syndication deal in a complex arrangement with CBS and Ion. Under the deal, Ion acquired all episodes from Seasons 1-4 that had aired in the U.S. on CBS along with 11 first-run (in the U.S.) Season 4 episodes. Since its Ion debut in October, Flashpoint has been growing in the ratings. In its...

Riddick 3 – Katee Sackhoff Hunts Vin Diesel?
It looks like there might be some new cannon fodder joining the cast of Riddick as Battlestar Galactica alumni Katee Sackhoff, along with a few others, are offered the opportunity to have their butts kicked by Vin Diesel.
It’s been seven years since bad boy Riddick graced the big screen with his presence in The Chronicles of Riddick (God, I feel old) but the chrome-dome with the freaky eyes is finally making his triumphant return to the theater, and the casting machine is hard at work with bringing in fresh meat to square off against everyone’s favorite anti-hero in Universal Pictures’ Riddick.
According to the peeps at Bloody Disgusting, Katee Sackhoff, who seems unable to catch a break since playing Starbuck on BSG, has been approached to play Dahl, a Nordic mercenary tracking Riddick. Considering the average lifespan of people that track Riddick,...

Back in September, we brought you the news about Karl Urban (Dredd, Star Trek), who portrayed Vaako, the villainous Necromonger Commander in 2004′s The Chronicles of Riddick returning with Vin Diesel for the third installment of David Twohy‘s franchise.
Now, B-d reports that Bokeem Woodbine (Total Recall) and the always lovely and super-cool Katee Sackhoff (Longmire, Growl) have been offered roles in the forthcoming Riddick sequel. While no information was available on Woodbine’s role, its said that Sackhoff would portray “Dahl”, a Nordic merc tracking Riddick.
In addition to Woodbine and Sackhoff, the site reports that Andreas Apergis (Durham County) and WWE wrestler Dave Bautista (The Scorpion King 3: Battle for Redemption) have also been offered roles in the film.
Synopsis:
Betrayed by his own kind and left for dead on a desolate planet, Riddick (Diesel) fights for survival against alien predators and becomes more powerful and dangerous than ever before.

With pre-production well underway, David Twohy's Riddick is now starting to put together its supporting cast. We previously reported that Karl Urban would be returning to the franchise to star alongside Vin Diesel, and now Bloody-Disgusting has some new casting details to report. According to Bd, offers are out to voice Andreas Apergis (Durham County) Katee Sackhoff (Battlestar Galactica) Bokeem Woodbine (The Rock) and WWE wrestler Dave Bautista (The Scorpion King 3: Battle for Redemption). If Apergis signs on, he'll play play "Krone", commander of the dark theocracy, while Sackhoff would pay "Dahl", a Nordic merc tracking Riddick. I'm definitely up on the idea of Sackhoff playing a merc, and hopefully Woodbine will top his shocked-death face from The Rock. Check out the official synopsis for Riddick after the jump. Three films Tuesday so let's get right into it. Killer Joe, directed by William Friedkin. This is the same guy that directed The French Connection and The Exorcist. He may have had a few clunkers in recent history, but I had some hopes for this. Emile Hirsch plays a kid in Texas who owes a lot of money to the wrong people. With the help of his father and step-mother, he hires a crooked cop played by Matthew McConaughey to kill his mother for the insurance money. Since he planned on paying the cop after he gets the insurance money, McConaughey asks for Hirsch's teenage sister as a retainer. I didn't hate this movie, but it's probably the worst film I've seen so far this year. 90 seconds into the movie is a centre screen shot of Gina Gershon's hairy muff. Some people might like that. Some people might find that revolting.

Hugh Dillon knows, thanks to his "Flashpoint" character, just how bad a day someone can have.
In the Canadian-made, Friday-night CBS police drama's most recent episode, hostage-negotiation-team veteran Ed Lane was trying to get to a hospital for his child's birth while occupied with an on-the-job psychiatric evaluation -- which, he was dismayed to learn, had been ordered by his friend and superior Greg Parker (Enrico Colantoni).
Making matters much worse, Lane got stuck in heavy traffic en route to the hospital, then became the victim of a road-rage shooting. "Flashpoint" fans will learn the outcome of that cliffhanger soon: After two weeks of repeats, new episodes resume Friday, July 8 ... and there's a big hint in the fact that Dillon is still filming episodes for the current fourth season in Toronto.
"My initial reaction was, 'Holy f***!'," Dillon tells Zap2it about his "Flashpoint" alter ego getting shot, "but it made sense.

On a show with far more rain drops than tears, it's Michelle Forbes who provides the heavy heart that forms a large part of this hit AMC murder mystery's core.
Forbes plays Mitch Larsen, the grieving mother of Rosie Larsen in the breakout first season of "The Killing." Set in Seattle -- though filmed in Vancouver -- the show tackles the mysterious killing of the straight A high school student and the collateral damage done to a wide array of people left in its wake. With stoic Sarah Linden (Mirielle Enos) and troubled Stephen Holder (Joel Kinnaman) playing the unlikely pair of detectives charged with solving the case, Forbes' mourning Mitch delivers the viewer a glimpse into the world of pain few can possibly imagine.
With the series' first season winding down, Forbes spoke with The Huffington Post about the show, her character, and those pesky "Twin Peaks" comparisons.

Has the mystery surrounding who killed Rosie Larson left you scratching your head? Well, rest assured, you’re not alone. Michelle Forbes, the talented, and if we may be so bold, Emmy-worthy actress, who plays grieving mother Mitch Larson on AMC’s meticulously crafted and beautifully-shot freshman series, The Killing, is too. Or at least that’s the distinct impression the affable actress left us with during a recent one-on-one in which Forbes took the time to discuss the year’s most addictive new series, the toll playing television’s most honest portrait of grief takes on a person, and why the resolution of spring’s most talked-about mystery may just leave viewers with more questions than answers!
Who killed Rosie Larson?!
Michelle Forbes: I have no bloody idea!
On a slightly more serious note, having finished shooting the season would it be safe to assume that you know the answer to that question?...

Michelle Forbes has been a TV mainstay since the mid-'90s when she was on Homicide: Life on the Street-she's appeared on 24, Prison Break, Battlestar Galactica, In Treatment, and True Blood. But her role on the AMC mystery The Killing as the destroyed-by-grief mother of the dead girl at the center of the story has gotten her more attention than ever. Jace Lacob talked to Forbes about her career, playing the anguished Mitch Larsen, and why committing to a TV show is like an arranged marriage.
Few actors can hope to have as varied a career as Michelle Forbes, the chameleonic thespian who is stealing scenes (and viewers' collective breath) as Mitch Larsen, the grief-stricken mother on AMC's addictive whodunit The Killing (based on Søren Sveistrup's Danish drama Forbrydelsen), and previously as savage, power-mad villainess Maryann on HBO's True Blood. Former exotic dancer Crystal Mangum has been charged with murder five years after falsely claiming three Duke lacrosse players raped her. The latest twist in her case forces the district attorney to walk a legal tightrope, writes David A. Graham.
Just when it appears that the strange and tormented life of Crystal Mangum can't get any more complicated, it does. You know when a U.S. network reworks a European series (in this case, one from Denmark), it's going to be dark and brooding. AMC's 'The Killing' is just that -- unsettling, gloomy and melancholy. Starring Michelle Forbes ('True Blood,' 'Battlestar Galactica,' 'Durham County') as a mother trying to deal with the mysterious disappearance of her daughter Rosie, this is anything but light fare.
Filmed in Vancouver posing as Seattle, 'The Killing' is a 13-episode murder-mystery series, but with such a stellar cast and stark vibe, it ends up offering up more than your standard whodunit. We caught up with Forbes and chatted about her attraction to dark roles, how she channels such raw emotion and if she's ever going to take a break from the intensity.

According to Helene Joy, Durham County, a TV series she stars in, is a slap in the face for those who believe that life is a fairy tale.
For this Canadian actress, the show's dark tone isn't exaggerated. In fact, this gives a "bleak theme to Durham County", something that she feels necessary. After all, even if our life more or less borders on a fairytale, Durham County puts us in front of truths about our society in her opinion.
In Durham County, Joy plays Audrey Sweeney, a nurse who lives in a fictitious suburb of Toronto and who is married to Mike Sweeney, a former homicide detective who is now the superintendent of the Durham Police Department. Besides, her husband is investigating on murders related to drug trafficking along the corridor of the 401 highway. Now that the dust has settled at the end of the second season, Audrey is...

With splashes of blood, guns, corpses and even psychologically disturbed characters Durham County will leave a lasting impression on viewers. However, specified Finstad-Knizhnik, the violence you see in the show she created with Janis Lundman and Adrienne Mitchell isn't "gratuitous".
Shot in Montreal, Durham County follows Mike Sweeney (Hugh Dillon), a homicide detective from a police department of a suburb of Toronto. In the third season of the show, he's investigating on a very brutal double homicide of two teenagers. This double homicide is related to drug trafficking.
