Forget You Not

I recently saw this at the 2007 Palm Springs International Film Festival. I can't believe I am the only one to leave a comment about the film here as I thought it was a very good film. It's too bad a film like this can't find it's theatrical audience. A large senior segment who hate films filled with violence, car chases, laser beams, loud explosions, gutter language, shaky hand held cameras and over-stylized production values would likely enjoy this simple and sensitive story set in post World War II Italy. This is a story about nine women who are patients in a hospital birthing unit for an extended stay because of pregnancy complications. The women who are all strangers from different backgrounds find a shared camaraderie and solidarity as they bond to face their individual situations. It's definitely a woman's movie with a strong cast including Anna Capriola as Nina with Francesca Antonelli, Emanuela Grimalda and Monica Cervini. Mariantonia Avati, daughter of famed director Pupi Avati makes her directorial debut in this film written by her brother Tommaso Avati. Cinematography by Cesare Bastelli. A nice period piece with a great look to it. A good script and some interesting characters. I would give it an 8.0 out of 10 and recommend it. Not just a chick flick.
