    Cliched Hero Worship

I guess Chatrapathi came when SSR was still working out his own formula because it is as generic as it gets.

In the lead, Prabhas is Shivaji aka Chatrapathi, yet another messiah of the masses, ideal son to traditional mother (a dowdy Bhanupriya) and dashing lover to typical Telugu movie imported decorative heroine (Shriya Saran). Most of the surrounding cast exists purely to marvel at how awesome Shivaji is. There's a glimmer of interest in the form of a vengeful step-brother who does all he can to poison the bond between the dowdy maa and adarsh beta, but the writing is flimsy and inconsistent, making the character a pompous buffoon. The Srilankan origin of the lead characters is ignored once they reach India, reducing them to standard oppressed basti-walas. Bollywood's Narendra Jha and Pradeep Rawat appear as unlikely Telugu speaking Northie baddies who run the vaguest form of criminal enterprise. I think they're supposed to be brothers, but one is called Bajirao and the other is Raas Bihari, go figure. Without a real script, SSR just bungs in a load of assorted elements. There's an odious parallel comedy track with an obnoxious guy doing assorted movie parodies (in one lengthy scene he apes Vikram's Anniyan performance). Apart from the by-the-numbers hero-heroine songs, there are two item numbers with women who have no other role in the film. The action scenes, with flailing of axes and pipe-wrenches, are mildly interesting but SSR is yet to develop the visual rhythm he brandished in the Bahubali films. Prabhas' introduction scene is at least amusing in terms of having the most unconvincing shark-fighting scene in cinematic history with Playstation1 quality CGI, but the bulk of Chatrapathi is just tedious twaddle.

    Mass Action with Mother sentiment

This movie gives you a glimpse of prabhas cutout How he can handle mass fights that telugu audience crave for, his body is huge plus and the sentiment scenes with his mother will get your tears out.

    okka adugu.......(one step)....mass entertainer!!!!!!!!

one word that describes this movie is "ENTHRALLING"

The specialist mass director Mr Rajamouli delivers it again.....the first half is too good.....and the scene just before interval is mind blowing good and believe me I have seen this movie innumerable times and the scene never fails to induce the goose-flesh till this date.....the dialogs are awesome....shriya too hot....prabhas is good and this movie delivered him all the accolades....second half is relatively dull compared to the first and looks a bit stretched but its OK.....

special mention should be made regarding the little guy (shafi)who played younger brother of prabhas....he was too good and the rage that he expressed through his act was simply awesome....he deserved an award for it....

all in all a must watch for all Telugu movie fans...

Glorifies the hero like most movies but is extremely well made and worth a watch

This is a movie that banks completely on the director's skills.A script that has its moments but slows down in the second half are compensated by the superb background score(one of the best you will ever hear)and very good performance by lead actor Prabhas who looks tailor made for the title role.Choreography, fight sequences and the sets are breathtaking and Rajamouli like in his all other previous movies uses the villain in an efficient way.Shriya is wasted - wonder why she agrees to do such mediocre stuff these days!Bhanupriya is a fantastic actress and lives up to the expectations. The chemistry between her and Prabhas is very good and keeps the movie going. The second half could have been much better but nevertheless its a movie you should watch.Far better than most of the recent flicks. PS:Look out for Venu Madhav's comic track. Its hilarious.

Sivaji: [Bringing Baji Rao's dead body to Appala Naidu after killing him] You said we must be slaves. He's dead! Dare to step into his shoes!

Appala Naidu: No! I don't want to step into his shoes. I'll follow you! You've my full support, just order me.

      Sivaji: One step!

      Appala Naidu: One step?

      Sivaji: One step!

[Making a foot impression on the map with Baji Rao's blood]

Sivaji: This is port area, where my people live. We struggled for years to make two ends meet, we quenched our hunger with our tears. Those tears have become raging fire, anyone nearing us will be reduced to ashes! If any Tom, Dick and Harry tries to rule over us...

      [Hits axe on the table]

Sivaji: No one should step into my area.

      [Leaving office]

Sivaji: Appala Naidu, whether you come with rowdyism or attack us, hooliganism or create factions or even play politics, everyone will be sacrificed in the port. Waves will turn into blood and hit the shore!

      Appala Naidu: [Sits down scared]
