I highly doubt you are who you say you are, but for argument sake if you are...I'm here to tell you that this movie wasn't meant to portray your father in a light you see fit. This movie was a dedication to Amber and her story and how her tragic death gave many children a chance to live due to the amber alert being used across the country. Its a movie of course its dramatized that's why it says BASED on a true story. Get over yourself! This movie was excellent, the acting was excellent, and the story was tragic and should have never of happened. My heart goes out to Amber and her family....This movie should run more often it will be airing on lifetime July 11
silvergoddess, I have never laughed so hard reading a review as I laughed at yours. "U heartless bastards!" "Heartless s.o.b.s!" "You can all go to hell!" LOL, sweetie, these reviews are for the MOVIE, not for what happened to Amber. It's a bad movie with bad acting. Reviews of movies don't reflect the real-life events behind them, they just reflect whether or not the movie is good. It isn't, and it doesn't make anyone a "heartless bastard" to say so. Get a grip.
I reiterate my original review from 2009 (oh, and to the twit 'myspecialparadise' who thinks that I must be offended by Elizabeth Rohm's character in L&O being a lesbian, NOPE- I'm just offended by her lousy acting. I couldn't care less if anyone is gay or plays a gay character, LOL):
Elizabeth Rohm was the weakest actress of all the Law and Order ADA's and her acting is even worse here. Her attempts at a Texas accent are amateurish and unrealistic. Nor can she adequately summon the intense emotions needed to play the mother of a kidnapped child; at times while her daughter is missing she manages to sound only vaguely annoyed, as if she can't remember where she left her keys.
This is an important true story, so it's too bad that the awful acting of the lead actress distracts so much from the message. The rest of the cast is talented enough, but they just can't overcome Rohm's tendency to simply lay on a particularly thick imitation of a Southern drawl whenever actual acting is required.

Amber's Mom: the worst acting I've ever seen. and I patronize community theater. I've lived all over the south including Texas. Unbelievable performance and less believable accents. Creepy Abductor was the best actor and I'm surprised he agreed to be in this thing. Too bad because the story deserved to be told well. Instead, it was a joke. Is this the norm for lifetime movies? I didn't think so, but it's been a long time since I watched such cheesy television. I only watched it because of the connection to real life legislation. And, I'm sure if there was such blatant disregard for the geography (Canada=Texas for gosh sakes?) there was probably such license taken with other historicity. The only thing I came away believing is that there is actually a real Amber Alert--but not because of the movie. Could that woman have actually been so stupid as to allow that guy to babysit that child? There's way more to THAT story.
I give it 2 for at least attempting to tell an important story and raise awareness, but if it wasn't dealing with such a serious issue and I was rating it as a movie alone, it would have to be 0/10.
Much has been written here about Rohm's accent, and as a film fan and someone who dated a Texan, I have to say I was quite shocked. In fact, I am quite convinced many of the words coming out of her mouth were spoken by someone else, or dubbed afterwards. Either way, it was unconvincing to put it mildly.
As a fan of Angel and having watched every episode at least 3 times, I am very familiar with Rohm. I happen to think her performance as Kate Lockley was excellent, so I disagree with the "she can't act" opinions. However she certainly didn't act here, and nor was she alone in that.
The only performance in this movie worth mentioning was that of Jodelle Ferland, who is one of the best child actors around. If she gets the right parts, she will be an Academy award winner, or I'll eat my hat.
Watch it if you want to learn about Amber's story, but don't watch it for entertainment value.

I think Elizabeth Rohm is from Law & Order? I only watch Criminal Intent, so I'm not familiar with any of her other work. But her accent in the Amber movie made it clear that she's not a Southerner. Her accent was such a distraction that I could barely watch the first story.
The second part, with Nichole, was much more watchable. The abductor was perfectly cast (creepy like an obscene phone caller), and the other actresses gave taut performances. I will say, though, that if the real Glen looked anything like the actor version, Sharon should have seen warning signs way before she did. Creepy.

- TriviaAmber was kidnapped on January 13, 1996.
- GoofsWhen the detective is telling the mom what will happen with the Amber Alert, a California Highway Patrol Officer is shown receiving a radio message that a vehicle was last seen going east on "U.S. I-95." Interstate 95 (I-95) runs north and south on the east coast of the U.S., thousands of miles away from California. U.S. 95 is in the western U.S. (a short portion is in California), but also runs north-south. Additionally, the proper term would be I-95 for Interstate 95 or U.S. 95 for a secondary road (as used later in the movie), but not both together.
