The follow-up to Barbarian has been teased by one of its stars. The movie, which is titled Weapons and is set to premiere in theaters on January 16, 2026, is the next film from director Zach Cregger, who made his horror debut with the twist-filled Barbarian in 2022 after a career in comedy projects including The Whitest Kids U'Know and Miss March. The upcoming movie, which is set in Florida, features a cast that includes Josh Brolin, Julia Garner, Alden Ehrenreich, Benedict Wong, Amy Madigan, Austin Abrams, and June Diane Raphael.
Per Collider, Julia Garner was interviewed by Perri Nemiroff on the video series Collider Ladies Night while promoting her upcoming Blumhouse horror movie Wolf Man. Writer/director Zach Cregger’s horror film Barbarian (watch it Here) was a financial success when it was released last year, and it also received a lot of positive word-of-mouth. New Line Cinema was so impressed by it, they forked over $38 million to pick up Cregger’s mysterious new horror project, Weapons. (Beating out Jordan Peele and Universal in the bidding war.) New Line then signed a first look deal with BoulderLight Pictures, the production company behind Barbarian. They have since set up two other projects, a sci-fi thriller called Companion and a haunted house movie called Occupant, that Cregger will be producing. But while the filmmakers move on to other ideas, Barbarian does still has life in it. Our friends at Bloody Disgusting report that a Barbarian video game is now in the works!

The following contains spoilers for I Think You Should Leave Season 3, Episode 2, "I Can Do Whatever I Want," now streaming on Netflix.
For 50 seconds, there were monsters in the world of I Think You Should Leave. The "Darmine Doggy Door" sketch was one of the Netflix show's most terrifying and existential entries. Tim Robinson's sleep-deprived salesman mistook a pig in a Richard Nixon mask for a waking nightmare, and was left to grapple with the existential fallout of his momentary delusion.
"Darmine Doggy Door" instantly entered the pantheon of I Think You Should Leave's other intriguing calls to consumer action, such as "Turbo Team" and "Corncob TV," but introduced a twist. Utilizing genre tropes such as the reliable jump scare and a practical effects creature design, Robinson met audiences at the threshold of horror and comedy. He then demonstrated that the difference between the two can be as thin as a standard-issue doggy door.

Up next from writer/director Zach Cregger (Barbarian) is New Line Cinema’s Weapons, and THR reports that Renate Reinsve (The Worst Person in the World) will star.
Renate Reinsve joins the previously announced Pedro Pascal (“The Last of Us”).
Moving full speed ahead toward a theatrical release, production is anticipated to commence later this year. The upcoming Weapons is from writer/director Zach Cregger, who will also produce alongside his Barbarian producing team: Roy Lee of Vertigo and J.D. Lifshitz and Raphael Margules of BoulderLight Pictures. Vertigo’s Miri Yoon also produces.
The Hollywood Reporter teased, “Plot details for Weapons are being kept holstered but it is described as a multi and inter-related story horror epic that tonally is in the vein of Magnolia, the 1999 actor-crammed showcase from filmmaker Paul Thomas Anderson.”

The filmmaker behind last year's surprise horror hit "Barbarian" has lined up his next movie, and it sounds like Hollywood was absolutely salivating over it. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Zach Cregger will next write and direct a new original titled "Weapons," with Warner Bros. and New Line Cinema winning the bidding war that emerged over the project. What's more, Cregger managed to score an unusually rich deal for the film, but more on that in a moment.
News of Cregger's follow-up to "Barbarian" hit the town earlier this week and, even before that, studios were said to be trying to nab the rights to the film. Ultimately, New Line bested the competition, and a deal was made quickly. Production is expected to kick off later this year, but there is no word yet on who will star in the film, which is described as another horror effort, though plot details are thin for now.

The buzz had been building for more than two weeks. A new project from Zach Cregger, the out-of-nowhere filmmaker behind the cult horror hit Barbarian, was coming.
There were offers sight unseen, some even hitting eight figures, before the project was taken to market. Producers were calling Cregger’s representatives, begging to be involved. No dice. Nobody was getting a peek until it was to hit the market the morning of Jan. 22.
In the 24 hours after Cregger’s new horror project, Weapons, was sent to Hollywood studios, a brief but intense bidding war exploded. And just as quickly, a whopper of a deal was made.
Closing whirlwind negotiations Tuesday, New Line has won the rights to Weapons, signing a deal that seems unprecedented in modern times, especially for a filmmaker with essentially just one movie under his belt.
Yes, there is the money — eight figures to write and direct — according to sources.

Barbarian director Zach Cregger has shared a progress update on his next horror film. Barbarian was a surprise hit in the post-summer season when it took No. 1 in its opening weekend this past September. The film followed a young woman named Tess (Georgina Campbell) whose Airbnb was accidentally double booked with Keith (Bill Skarsgård). While she attempts to ascertain if Keith is telling the truth about his intentions, she discovers that the house has sinister secrets of its own.
Recently, ComingSoon.net sat down with Cregger to discuss the success of Barbarian and his plans for the future. The writer-director is currently working on the screenplay for an as-yet-untitled horror project, and he shared the latest update on his progress. He is currently holed up in an appropriate setting - an isolated cabin in the woods - and making good progress, which has him "feeling very positive." Read his full...

"Barbarian" is one of the hottest horror movies of 2022. The film is cheeky, terrifying, and refreshingly contemporary. It also marks the directorial debut of Zach Cregger, known for creating the hilarious sketch comedy series "The Whitest Kids U'Know." With all the buzz surrounding "Barbarian," a lot of people are wondering what the filmmaker plans to do next. Nothing is set in stone yet, but Cregger has already written some very exciting films that he hopes to get made in the near future. This includes some original work as well as a spin-off of a beloved franchise — Batman.
Like "Joker," "Barbarian" is dark, stylistically distinct, and sprinkled with humor. It also follows a main character unraveling a mystery, much like how Batman follows the Riddler's clues. Cregger wrote the screenplay in his free time and never expected the project to get off the ground. "I didn't write this thinking this would ever get made,...

Horror fans can scream “original horror” all they want but the truth is that risks are only taken when there’s proof of success. Studios and distributors are reactionary and when horror fans vote with their dollars it tells them to take more risks.
2022 has been an excellent year for both the genre and risks. Universal Pictures’ The Black Phone was a massive hit, so much so that discussions are underway to turn it into a franchise. That’s the irony here – an original idea that hits becomes IP and then there’s less room for those risks.
Digressing, it’s all a win for horror fans. And for those complaining there aren’t enough original horror films, you just aren’t looking hard enough. Thankfully, some sneak their way into theaters and continue to prove that these are risks worth taking.

Trevor Moore, a comedian, actor, producer, and co-founder of the sketch comedy group The Whitest Kids U Know, died Friday evening at 41 from an accident. His death was confirmed by his manager, who issued this statement on behalf of his wife Aimee Carlson and the Moore family:
“We are devastated by the loss of my husband, best friend and the father of our son. He was known as a writer and comedian to millions, and yet to us he was simply the center of our whole world. We don’t know how we’ll go on without him, but we’re thankful for the memories we do have that will stay with us forever. We appreciate the outpouring of love and support we have received from everyone. This is a tragic and sudden loss and we ask that you please respect our privacy during this time of grieving.”

Best Male LeadRonald Bronstein"Daddy Longlegs"Beginner's luck? Ronald Bronstein is an award-winning writer-director of indie films. But in writer-directors Josh Safdie and Benny Safdie's film "Daddy Longlegs," he makes his film acting debut. Here he plays Lenny, a divorced father of two young boys who has little grasp on parental responsibility and skill, and even less good judgment. When we first meet Lenny, he pompously mouths off to the school principal in a juvenile defense of his two boys. That scene sets our teeth on edge for what's to come. Lenny takes his sons on vacation with a woman he first met at a bar the night before. He brings the kids to his job as a projectionist, then lets them run wild and even operate the projector—badly. Told he can't bring them again, he gives them a wee dose of sedatives that sends them into Stage 4 sleep for days on end.

Nobody can accuse Christian Slater of not trying to get himself into a hit TV series. First there was 'My Own Worst Enemy,' then this year's 'The Forgotten.' Two swings, two misses. Will the third strike rule apply if his next project fails to make the cut? Whatever the outcome, you gotta give the guy credit for trying. Today, the Hollywood Reporter reported that Christian Slater's been cast in an Adam Goldberg comedy pilot for Fox.
There's action as well as comedy apparently, with Slater playing the leader of a group called Titan Team, a bunch of young, brilliant security experts. He's ex-military and a maverick. Writer/actor Trevor Moore from 'The Whitest Kids U'Know' is also in the pilot. He's the Don Juan and reconnaissance expert.

IFC is going for laughs with its 2009-10 slate, which includes projects starring "Saturday Night Live" alum Chris Kattan and punk food princess Thu Tran.
"We're making huge strides in the comedy genre by creating nontraditional original series that appeal to our core base of men 18-34," said Jennifer Caserta, executive vp and Gm of IFCtv.
IFC's new original series include "Food Party," which premieres June 9, a surreal mixture of puppets, weird special effects and cooking hosted by Tran.
The previously announced "Bollywood Hero," which airs Aug. 6-8, is an original three-part comedy miniseries centering on Kattan, who plays himself as he moves to India, where he's been promised a starring role in a Bollywood film.
The mini, which co-stars Julian Sands, Neha Dhupia, Ali Fazal and Pooja Kumar, is co-produced by Starz Media and executive produced by Kattan and Snackaholic's Ted Skillman and Belisa Balaban.

Warner Bros.' "Watchmen" wilted under the pressure in its second weekend as Disney's family adventure "Race to Witch Mountain" sped to No. 1 with $25 million in estimated opening grosses.
"Watchmen" dropped a big 67% from its opening domestic grosses to register $18.1 million in second place. Universal's Rogue-produced horror pic "The Last House on the Left" bowed in third place with $14.7 million, while Fox Atomic's youth comedy "Miss March" stumbled into theaters with just $2.4 million in 10th place.
Industrywide, the $101 million weekend represented a 16% decline from the same frame last year, according to Nielsen Edi. It was only the second year-over-year weekend decline this year, with industryites citing a tough comparison with a year-ago session topped by the $45 million opening of "Dr. Seuss' Horton Hears a Who!"
The industry boxoffice is tracking 2% ahead of the same portion of last year, at $1.88 billion. But the year-to-date uptick is deceptively modest due to...

Up until yesterday I was having trouble keeping track of all the movies that were contenders for the worst of 2009, and I couldn't decide which one topped the list. Now my head is clear of such decisions. I've seen Miss March. In the film, high school boy Eugene (Zach Cregger) practices abstinence but reluctantly agrees to sleep with his girlfriend Cindi (Raquel Alessi) on prom night. Before he can seal the deal he falls down some stairs and goes into a coma. When he wakes up four years later, Cindi is the new Playboy Centerfold. So he and his idiot best friend Tucker (Trevor Moore) take a road trip to the Playboy Mansion to find her.
How they're friends is one of the movie's greatest mysteries, aside from, you know, the one about how it ever got made. These two morons react to everything with bug eyes and jaws agape,...

Disclaimer: I'm a huge fan of "The Whitest Kids U Know". Groups like "Whitest Kids" and "Derrick Comedy" (whose recent film, "Mystery Team", which was a hit at Sundance) have found major success on the Internet and revived sketch comedy that's either been trampled from "SNL" or dormant since "Monty Python" depending on how you want to interpret the history. As the success of these groups grows online, Hollywood wants in on the action and they've nicked a piece of "Whitest Kids U Know" with writers, directors, and stars Trevor Moore and Zack Cregger in the sex comedy "Miss March". Unfortunately, while Moore and Cregger are funny, the film lacks the insane irreverence of their show, the full-dynamic of the show's five-person cast, and that leaves too much wacky/straight-man dynamic between Moore's lovable, horny-idiot Tucker and ...

Chicago – Zach Cregger and Trevor Moore – best known as members of the TV comedy troupe “The Whitest Kids U’ Know” (now on the Independent Film Channel) – make their directorial feature-film debut with the release of “Miss March”.
Rating: 2.5/5.0 “Miss March,” which opens on March 13, 2009, is a sex comedy that also stars Cregger and Moore as Eugene Bell and Tucker Cleigh, a couple of high school goofs who are looking to score. Tucker is the rampant horny boy in the scenario, while Eugene is a purer soul, hoping to lose his virginity on prom night with his girlfriend Cindi (Raquel Alessi).

Will "Watchmen" turn out to be a one-week wonder?
There appears at least a possibility of that -- though after the pic topped the domestic boxoffice with $55.2 million this past weekend, nobody is likely to shed tears for distributor Warner Bros. if the "Watchmen" reign proves short-lived.
Not that there isn't considerable interest in the question. "Watchmen" was watched for weeks for signs of whether it would open well, so it similarly will be scrutinized for the strength of its legs in the theatrical marketplace.
The visually charged superhero pic won't be helped by the emergence of three wide openers during its sophomore session: Disney's family adventure "Race to Witch Mountain," Universal's R-rated horror film "The Last House on the Left" and Fox Atomic's R-rated youth comedy "Miss March."

It’s no great feat to score laughs in a Judd Apatow production with a clever script, talented castmates, and the freedom to improvise fruitfully. But it takes real talent to get them in a brutal black hole of a comedy like Miss March,co-directed, co-scripted and starring Zach Cregger and Trevor Moore of the sketch comedy troupe The Whitest Kids U Know. If there were an Academy Award for best supporting performance in a dreadful sex comedy, Craig Robinson would win for his inspired turn as a deluded rapper named Horsedick.Mpeg (always remember the Mpeg part) here. About a week ago, we shared with you some video of "auditions" for the raunchy comedy, Miss March, which stars and is written directed by members of The Whitest Kids U Know. That sounds like a fantasy football team, but it's actually a comedy ensemble.
We're hoping to land an interview with the two guys in this video, who just so happen to be the two leads in Miss March, Trevor Moore and Zach Cregger.
I must warn you: This is not a video to play around a kid. This is one of those Nsfw deals. (They talk about and approximate fellatio.)

I'll warn you up front: There's an awful lot of profanity in this video. It's laced with some swear words. Now I'm off the hook...
Two of The Whitest Kids U Know, Zach Cregger and Trevor Moore, have co-written and directed Miss March , a new sex romp comedy in which they also star. There are now some "auditions" for roles in the film, and who should pop up but other members of the Whitest Kids ensemble.
I didn't really care for the one with Darren Trumeter (which you can watch here), but I do like when Sam Brown shows up to audition for Hugh Hefner, a part that will be played by Hugh Hefner.
Miss March opens, oddly enough, on March 13th.
