When you hear the hip-hop-styled piano rhythm of “Pof,” the opening cut on Ari Lennox’s second album age/sex/location, the first thing you’ll notice is her voice, flowing full and wry like Erykah Badu circa “On & On.” Yes, this is a real, honest-to-God soul singer: no autotune effects, no flattening croon that approximates laptop software, no double-time rhythm meant to approximate a rapper’s inflections. Lennox isn’t a traditionalist, though, and her music feels utterly modern. Much like Summer Walker, Chlöe Bailey — both of whom guest...

The film, entitled Schachnovelle, will star Oliver Masucci in the lead role, alongside Albrecht Schuch, Birgit Minichmayr, Rolf Lassgard and Samuel Finzi. Best known for having directed the alpine drama North Face, as well as commercially successful adaptations of Winnetou novels and music videos featuring the likes of Madonna and Rammstein, German filmmaker Philipp Stölzl is now working on a reinterpretation of Stefan Zweig’s literary classic The Royal Game. Schachnovelle tells the story of lawyer Bartok, who, while on a cruise, recalls being imprisoned and tortured by the Nazis in Vienna. In 1938, Bartok gets arrested and taken to the Gestapo’s headquarters before he can flee to the USA with his wife. Because he refuses to cooperate with the Nazi officials and provide information about accounts that he manages, Bartok is sent into solitary confinement. A chess book helps him survive in captivity and overcome the mental suffering inflicted on.
The Chinese mountain-climbing adventure “The Climbers” works best when it’s an old-fashioned macho melodrama about the hardships faced by the first mountaineering team to document their summit of Mount Everest’s treacherous North-side in 1975.
In these scenes, writer-director Daniel Lee (“Black Mask”) and his colleagues deliver a less flamboyant but equally nationalistic mountain-climbing answer to “Top Gun,” one that’s mostly focused on the camaraderie and heartbreak that the (predominantly male) National Mountaineering Team faces whenever their stubborn but resourceful leaders Wuzhou Fang and Qu Songlin (Zhang Yi) press on in the face of avalanches, snow drifts, and other killer weather conditions.
Most action set pieces — which are the movie’s biggest selling point, given its IMAX presentation here in America — are marred by cheap-looking computer graphics and image-compositing, especially whenever the mountaineering team is super-imposed on the side of Everest during helicopter or crane shots. But impressive sound design,...

There’s one spectacularly tacky moment in Disney’s animated film “Frozen.” It’s when the young Queen Elsa, having fled into a wintry self-imposed exile, decides to embrace and then unleash her lethal power to congeal everything in sight into ice. Since she’s already living in sub-freezing temperatures so it’s not really such a big deal. Regardless, upon braying her first “Let it go!” this North Face-attired queen immediately morphs into a Vegas showgirl, decked out in a silver lame gown slit from her high heels almost up to her belly button. That’s female empowerment, Disney-style! Queen Elsa, an embodiment of irrelevant...

You'll also see Arya giving some directions to a dude in a North Face jacket, which led to the realization that some of these photos are behind the scenes as well. "I don't dabble," he says. "I dive in, 1,000 percent." So if he needs sun protection for a hike, of course he goes big. In any case, Leto recently turned 44 — "old,...

Charlie Clouser is a multi-instrumentalist composer, musician, producer, programmer and remix artist who has worked with some of the seminal recording artists of the last twenty years. Charlie came into prominence as a member of Nine Inch Nails from 1994-2000. Before joining the band as keyboardist/programmer, he’d already built a following with his extreme synth work and remixes for Prong, Marilyn Manson, White Zombie, and others. Charlie’s first film scoring effort, Saw, became an instant cult classic. His scores for the subsequent Saw series continue to define the films. Meru may be a meaningless name to those who aren’t a part of the climbing community, but for three American alpinists, veteran Conrad Anker, photographer Jimmy Chin and freestyle extraordinaire Renan Ozturk, making the first successful ascent of the treacherous peak in the Gharwal Himalayas was a goal bordering on obsession. The documentary of their journey weaves together footage from the team’s two attempts, in 2008 and 2011, with interviews with the climbers as well as their loved ones.
Co-directed by Chin and documentary filmmaker E. Chai Vasarhelyi, Meru is a compelling narrative of friendship, teamwork and the triumph of man’s will in the most unforgiving of circumstances. Having won over Sundance earlier this year and taking the Audience Award, the two directors (also husband and wife since 2013) spent a few days promoting the film at the San Francisco International Film Festival,...

Apparently the first look at the upcoming Point Break remake from director Ericson Core was shown during CinemaCon down in Las Vegas yesterday and with that comes the first looks at Luke Bracey and Edgar Ramirez in the film playing FBI agent Johnny Utah and extreme sports enthusiast and criminal Bodhi respectively. The duo are playing roles made popular by Keanu Reeves and Patrick Swayze in Kathryn Bigelow's 1991 film, and for many this remake is completely unnecessary, but it's set to arrive on December 25 nonetheless. One week after Star Wars: Episode VII - The Force Awakens, which is to say... we'll see how this turns out. The Jump's eliminees Dom Parker and Phil Tufnell have opened up about their exit from the competition tonight - promising that they'll reunite on Dom's upcoming chat show.
Speaking to reporters including Digital Spy in Austria after losing out to Jb Gill and Mike Tindall, the duo - who became "good mates" during training - explained that they would love to work together in the future.
"I'll invite him [on the show] - whether or not he turns up or not," Parker joked. "As long as he brings me a box of chocolates."
As Tufnell suggested that he could bring the drinks out, Parker agreed: "Yes, you can be the butler. Who's the celebrity butler today?"
Tufnell added that the duo could go on a skiing holiday together, with Parker adding: "We could do that. A bit of mountaineering, perhaps. We could take on the North Face of the Eiger or something, barefoot.

Jessica Biel kept warm during a Friday stroll with her two dogs by bundling up in sweats and a puffy North Face vest. The actress has been noticeably keeping her figure under wraps after reports surfaced that she is pregnant with her first child. Neither Jessica nor her husband, Justin Timberlake, has publicly commented on the rumors, and Us Weekly reports that they are "enjoying the news for themselves." They may be taking a cue from Justin's fellow Mouseketeer Ryan Gosling, who kept girlfriend Eva Mendes's pregnancy a secret for many months. After Eva and Ryan welcomed baby Esmeralda in September, Eva said she kept her pregnancy under wraps because she wanted to offer her child a bit of privacy. As for Justin, he spent at least part of the weekend apart from his wife, as he was spotted watching the Memphis Grizzlies face off against the Miami Heat in his hometown of Memphis,...

It's Dracula vs. Bane as Luke Evans' name has been added to the mix for Doug Liman's "The Summit" at Sony Pictures.
An adaptation of Jeffrey Archer's historical novel "Paths of Glory", the story deals with the mystery of George Mallory's ascent of Mount Everest. The mountain climber made several attempts to be the first to reach the summit before that of his Australian rival George Finch.
However Mallory and partner Andrew 'Sandy' Irvine never returned from their June 1924 climb. In 1999, Mallory's frozen body was found near the summit on the North Face, and debate has raged ever since about whether he was actually on his way down or up.
Tom Hardy was previously linked for the role of Mallory, seemingly dropped out due to scheduling, but is now apparently back onboard. Luke Evans ("The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug," "Fast and Furious 6") was one of...

Leaves rustling! Hair blowing! Temperatures as low as 50 degrees! Cats and dogs living together! Mass hysteria! It must be winter in Los Angeles. Jimmy Kimmel proved that Los Angeles is a town full of wusses when it comes to cold temperatures by showing a video montage of the local news stations covering the weather. If you were to just go off their TV packages, you would think Southern California was about to fall into total anarchy, complete with raiding of North Face stores and a shortage of slouchy knit caps. "Whenever the weather in L.A. drops below 70 degrees, our local news stations go nuts," Kimmel said before reminding the viewers that everything in the video was real (save for some body parts). A...

Returning home after a sunny vacation in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico, Diane Kruger and Joshua Jackson tasted that oh, so bitter realization that all good things must come to an end.
The cute couple was still dressed in their Mexican adventuring attire, and didn't seem to mind the chilly Los Angeles evening air. 37-year-old Diane wore a white sweater and straw hat, sporting a pair of cut-off denim shorts. Joshua walked beside her with their luggage, also showing off a straw hat, North Face t-shirt, and blue shorts.
In related news, the former "Mighty Ducks" stud awaits the release of his new movie, entitled, "The Affair," a drama premiering at the end of this year.
The TV movie centers on "Noah, a married father of four, who becomes involved with Allison, a married woman mourning the loss of her child, after a chance meeting at the beach."...

They Are What They Are: Renfroe’s Derivative Ice Age
Indie filmmaker Jeff Renfroe returns to Canada for his latest effort, a sci-fi actioneer, The Colony, which makes a serious attempt at thrilling us despite its cobbled together scenario that will put you in mind of plenty classic genre titles concerning post-apocalyptic environmental weather changes or humans trapped in wintry tundra. While it certainly never transcends its B movie trappings, a valiant attempt by its two lead performers helps distract from some of the larger faults and obvious use of distracting CGI.
A new Ice Age has forced mankind underground, the earth’s population severely reduced to a finite amount of humans living together in small colonies, subsisting on plants and animals they’ve been able to cultivate with themselves under the earth. Right before a never-ending blizzard began, mankind had developed a series of towers designed to reverse the dire weather patterns,...

Paul Rudd and Emile Hirsch play two clashing highway road workers in Prince Avalanche, a goofy but rich comedy that adapts an obscure Icelandic film titled Either Way from 2011. Shot with a small crew and featuring a diabolical mustache from Paul Rudd, the film is written and directed by David Gordon Green.
Like a select few before him, Green is an intriguing creative force in Hollywood for his disinterest to stand still, and in the same place. He originally gained recognition by making indie film darlings like George Washington and All the Real Girls, but later challenged any type of genre categorization by following up the dark film Snow Angels with Pineapple Express. From there he went on to direct two raunchy comedies back to back, Your Highness and The Sitter, released in the same year. His latest, Prince Avalanche, continues his interest in comedy, but doesn’t feature the...

While the rest of the world celebrates Britain's bundle of joy, the good folks at Music Box Films are offering you the chance to win your own bundle of despair. Yay! Actually, North Face is a visually stunning hi-def experience based on a disastrous real-life attempt to conquer the the north side of the Eiger just prior to World War II. The Silence deftly navigates the emotional fallout as a series of policemen and civilians relive the murder of a young girl 23 years after the fact. Both films are absolutely riveting and come with some nice special features. Both are depressing as hell. Do not attempt this as a double feature. We've got 3 prize packs. You get a Blu-ray of each film. To win, simply be amongst...

Rickey made history by breaking baseball's color line in 1946 and signing Robinson, while Number 42 went on to made history on the field.
Why We're In: While Helgeland's film is in no way groundbreaking, it is still a dedicated and endearing tribute to two great heroes of American sports. Boseman, an unknown to the big screen, stands out for his commendable portrayal of Robinson, and Ford gives one of his best performances in years.

Untaken Legacy: Stolzl’s English Debut a Clunky, Derivate Actioneer
Originally titled The Expatriate, German director Philip Stolzl’s English language debut gets the dumbed down title of Erased, which unfortunately only makes it an easy target for jokes concerning what the film does with your time. While the film manages to avoid being completely asinine, nicely packaged and more smartly written than your general fare in the Taken vein, Stolzl’s film can never quite manage to feel like an original concept, instead feeling like a European tinged, anemic subset of the Jason Bourne franchise.
Ben Logan (Aaron Eckhart) is an expatriate American living in Belgium, trying to start his life over working for a multinational corporation specializing in high-tech security. Only recently, his 15 year old daughter Amy (Liana Liberato) has left the Us to come live with him, and the two don’t seem to know each other very well,...

Sit down, Lemon Andersen ‘got a story to tell. He grew up in Brooklyn by the ten crack commandments. After both parents succumbing to Aids through their addictions, he took the improbable journey from Rikers to reading his first poem at El Puente Community Center to Broadway earning himself a Tony Award. Or as Lemon simply puts it, he took those lemons and made “the best goddamn lemonade!” He is now the subject of a documentary called ‘Lemon’ by Laura Brownson & Beth Levison which chronicles the journey of his one man play ‘County of Kings; the Beautiful Struggle’ which recently closed the HBO New York International Latino Film Festival and will air on PBS on October 19th as part of Voces, a four part Latino documentary series in celebration of Hispanic Heritage month.
LatinoBuzz: When you think of riding the train, standing room only on a winter day, hoodie and goose down North Face on in Brooklyn—what song pops into your head?
Lemon:“It’s all about the mood I’m in and the scene I’m writing. ‘Cause work controls my life, writing controls my life, performing controls my life. So I don’t listen to any music that’s not an influence on what I’m working on that day. Music is a big influence in my work and sometimes drives the energy of where I want to go. It depends on what character I’m working on because all of my characters are musically driven as far as their language and their style. So it really depends on the day and what character I’m working on. One day I may be listening to Wu-Tang and another day I’m listening to A$AP Rocky, matter of fact I was listening to him on the train yesterday. Right now listening to A$AP Rocky cause I’m writing about some pretty motherfuckers from Harlem”.
LatinoBuzz: Author from any time in history, from any place whose swag should have had them born in the County of Kings in 1975?
Lemon:“I would definitely have to say William Shakespeare, he should have been born in Brooklyn in 1975 because I would have loved to see Shakespeare’s poetic portrayal of that generation and that world. He’s a big inspiration on my writing about that world and on my style. Shakespeare all day man, that’s the Og. I mean, I would pick Sophocles or any one of those guys, but Shakespeare is my kind of writer cause its all poetry. Basically for me Shakespeare is the greatest storyteller ever in the world, ever, period, hands down there is no one better than him and I challenge any motherfucker to question it. Even if they say he wasn’t the one who wrote it, I’m talking about the work not the man; I don’t know that fool, I know his work”.
LatinoBuzz: If St. Cecilia, patron saint of poets, was from Flatbush Ave. What would she be wearing and how would you holler at her?
Lemon:“I live by the code kill them with kindness, blood everywhere, for me it’s always about being the nicest kind of guy. What she would be wearing is something that is independent to her personality. On some hip-hop tip but no brand names totally indie hip designers. Something that really reflects her personality. That’s how I would start the conversation, I would notice something that she’s wearing and comment on it, something like I know the brand or “I’ve seen that in Paris,” and that will strike a chord with her and we’ll talk”.
LatinoBuzz: Three time felon, Tony award winner, one man show and now subject of a documentary film—any regrets to your journey?
Lemon:“I don’t know, I think that if I had any regrets that would cancel out the great people that I have in my life. All the tough stuff that I’ve gone through that I don’t wish on no one else has brought a beautiful community to me. The only thing I regret is the pain that I had to endure because pain sucks, the feeling of pain sucks, I don’t give a fuck when people say “more pain, more gain” no one wants to feel pain”.
LatinoBuzz: What do you tell your children about your parents?
Lemon:“You know, I talk to my kids about my mother’s energy and how she would have loved them. I talk about how kind and polite my father was. So that they have some kind of remembrance that even though my parents died from their addictions and so that they know they were genuine in how they were. That’s what I try to do. I try not to give too many details, though they are not old enough to ask me for details yet”.
LatinoBuzz: What would you rather? Drink wine with Pablo Neruda. Play ‘Cee-lo’ with Langston Hughes, Slap Box with Charles Bukowski or Slow Dance with Sonia Sanchez?
Lemon:“Would be slap boxing with Charles Bukowski cause he tried to protect Langston Hughes cause he owes me on the dice game and Sonia Sanchez is sitting there laughing her ass off with Pablo Neruda sipping wine. I would slap box with Bukowski and I’ll know that he’ll try to go for his. Bukowski stands out for more than anyone, although I love Langston Hughes and I love Sonia, and Pablo Neruda is the most beautiful loving poet of them all. I’m too rambunctious and so Charles Bukowski fits the bill. I would turn those guys down any day to even just have coconut water with Bukowski. So that’s my dude, he rolls big with me, in my work, so yeah I’d slap box with him all day, right on the corner”.
LatinoBuzz: What ritual sends you to your creative realm?
Lemon:“Lately its been getting up in the morning and allowing my kind of madness to grow. By that I mean that I have to allow myself to wake up before I start writing. I wake up I talk to one of my closest friends. I talk to my management team and I get their energy boiling. I get the blood boiling. I get angry, I get hungry, and I go at it, and I don’t stop ‘til I go to bed at night. So I have to get the blood boiling is just not coffee. It has to be that I’m in conversation with people in the morning before the work start because people drive me. Through out the day I listen to music I go to local cafes I hang out with the Mexicans behind the bar let them know that I love and that I’m holding them down, real talk, and that’s my every day”.
LatinoBuzz: If you and Biggie played Hooky—what’s the day like?
Lemon: “Wow, if me and Biggie played hooky I think we’d be sitting at home, that’s the only time I would go back to smoking weed, because I know I’ll be smoking with Biggie. I don’t smoke weed but for Biggie and Bob Marley. I would smoke with him and we would be watching Midnight Express and Brubaker and I would be telling him, “you see these movies that’s why I’m writing ‘Toast’, that’s why I write scripts and not raps.”
LatinoBuzz: Line of poetry or a lyric you wish you wrote?
Lemon:“I never sleep cause sleep is the cousin of death.”—Nas, “NY State of Mind”
LatinoBuzz: What will people say about Lemon when it’s all said and done?
Lemon:“That he believed in a generation not based on race but on class and style, and they had a great story tell and he told it”.

Tom Hardy is in early talks to star in Doug Liman's "Everest", an adaptation of Jeffrey Archer's historical novel "Paths of Glory", at Sony Pictures says Deadline.
Archer's book deals with the mystery of George Mallory's ascent of Mount Everest. The mountain climber made several attempts to be the first to reach the summit. However Mallory and partner Andrew 'Sandy' Irvine never returned from their June 1924 climb.
In 1999, Mallory's frozen body was found near the summit on the North Face, and debate has raged ever since about whether he was actually on his way down or up. Edmund Hillary and Tenzing Norgay were the first to make a successful ascent of the peak in 1953.
Liman and Sheldon Turner have worked on the script and the project will be Liman's first one after he completes filming the Groundhog Day-style sci-fi drama "All You Need Is Kill" with Tom Cruise.

Which raunchy comedy concerning a quartet of male friends and their alcohol-fueled misadventures in a warm foreign country grossed $71m when it was released in the U.K. last year? Surprisingly, the answer is not The Hangover Part II—which garnered a comparatively meager $53m—but The Inbetweeners Movie, a big screen spin-off of a U.K. sitcom about four hapless teenagers.
Those amazed by the record-breaking success of the film, which opens in select cinemas here on September 7, include Iain Morris who co-created the original show and penned the movie with his writing partner Damon Beesley. “Damon has described me often as pathologically pessimistic,...

20. Tim Gunn, Tim Gunn's Guide to Style
Tim Gunn's professorial smarts on Project Runway and his long-gone makeover series Tim Gunn's Guide to Style make his conservative work attire damn fetching. He's a saucy and sexy guy, and I'm not just saying that because I believe my impersonation of him is Nobel-worthy.

Note: Do not read on if you have not seen Season 4, Episode 6 of Bravo's "The Real Housewives of New Jersey."
This week's episode starts with my favorite walking advertisement for birth control (Gia) texting away on her bed. Little sister Milania accuses her of chatting up her booooyfriend, and, like any chick trying to prove that she's not a total liar, she makes a scene that proves she's a total liar. Cue big scary demon spawn eyes and monster mash voice.
Teresa explains that Gia's bad mood and field day antics came as quite a surprise because she truly loves her uncle. The meltdown showed that something was -- and is -- really bothering her darling eldest brat. 'Cause, like, Gia's always been a ray of Jersey sunshine who doesn't have a history of acting like a hell hound.
At breakfast, Teresa presses Gia about what she and her uncle talked about.

Sir Ben Kingsley is apparently itching to be in as many films as humanly possible. He’s currently filming Ender’s Game, he’s set to play the villain in Iron Man 3 which begins shooting next month, he’ll film the crime thriller Cut Bank this fall, and he recently signed on to star in the indie sci-fi comedy Convention. Now comes word that Kingsley will star alongside Stellan Skarsgard, Tom Payne (Luck), and Olivier Martinez (S.W.A.T.) in the medieval period drama The Physician. The film is based on Noah Gordon’s novel and centers on a healer traveling across Europe in the 11th century. Payne will take the lead role of Rob Cole, a physician searching for “the scientific truth of illness and healing in a medieval world dominated by religion and superstition.” Kingsley will play the so-called “doctor of all doctors” while Skarsgard will play Cole’s first mentor.

Mark Duplass has had busy couple of years, directing and writing three films with his brother, and starring in a number of projects including the raunchy FX comedy, “The League,” and in the upcoming sci-fi tinged indie dramedy “Safety Not Guaranteed” with Aubrey Plaza. He’s following up that role with one in another indie film with a sci-fi element, “Convention,” and he’s going to be acting opposite some pretty big names.
Duplass will be playing an inventor who unveils his latest creation at a national box convention: the five-sided box. The mysterious new design initially seems perfect, until Duplass’ inventor learns that each time its special fold is created, he rips a hole in the space-time continuum. It’s up to him and his sister to put things back together and save the role. Jennifer Aniston is circling the sister role and Ben Kingsley is officially signed up...

The Weinstein Company’s newest arm, Radius, have accrued a nice lineup following their recent inception, picking up the remake of Nicolas Winding Refn‘s Pusher and, more importantly, Winding Refn‘s own Only God Forgives. Moving outside territory pertaining to the Dane, Variety reports that they’ve just snatched rights to The Expatriate, an action thriller that stars Aaron Eckhart.
The picture sees Da Dent play a former CIA agent, forced on the lamb with his daughter (Liana Liberato) “when his employers mark them both for termination as part of a wide-reaching international conspiracy.” Olga Kurylenko will play an agent “assigned to track down [the lead], her former partner and lover.”
Philipp Stölzl (North Face) directed the film, which Radius co-president Tom Quinn lovingly refers to as “Bourne meets Taken.” We can expect this one in the fall — via VOD and theaters — and if these new photos from Kinopoisk (via ThePlaylist) are any indication,...
