I'll have what he's having

I recently saw this at the 2007 Palm Springs Festival of Short Films and it's a delightful little comedy from Hungarian writer/director Márton Szirmai in his film debut in both roles. Based on a short story by Hungarian humorist András Nagy Bandó, a man goes to an outdoor lunch diner and orders the most common and popular item on the menu, Tripe & Onions with a raspberry soda and a pack of spearmint gum. Also at the diner is a disheveled homeless looking man and the two end up having their lunch together. Zsolt Anger, Tamás Ascher and László Kálday star as the the diners and their casual observer. Award winning cinematographer Gergely Pohárnok photographed this for probably no pay. This is a comedy played deadpan straight from beginning to end with a twist for the comedic payoff. I really enjoyed this very modest and very low budget short and I would give it an 8.5 out 10.

coincidence?

Who thinks it's a coincidence, that this short movie has exactly the same plot than another Oscar and Golden Palm award winner short film titled The Lunch Date (1989) wrote and directed by Adam Davidson?

Check this out: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0100076/

I saw both of them and it really doesn't seem like it happened by chance to use the same shots... Szirmai Márton could at least mention that it is a "remake".

By the way there is also a third movie with the same plot, the Boeuf Bourgignon (1988)

the lunch date (1990) rip off

for now i'm giving this 0/10 because this short has already been made i must admit it was made technically well but this scenario is a rip off of the lunch date made in 1990. It's actually less good than the lunch date. I hope the director marked this as a remake; if not he should be addressed about author rights. A pity i have to type 10 lines I really have nothing else to say about it the timing and characters of the lunch date are better. The food sounds of the eating face off are exactly the same. Shame on you. I hope somebody reads this, and comes to the same conclusion. Just buy or rent the movie DVD American shorts of cinema 16
