Make It Happen will open the annual arts fest in the Scottish capital and run for a week at the Festival Theatre from Aug. 1 to 9.
Set in Edinburgh, the play sees Cox portray Adam Smith, the pioneering Scottish philosopher and economist, and the ghost of fiscal past. Graham’s writing dives into the “unchecked growth, spiralling greed and nail-biting hubris that brought the world’s economy to its knees,” a plot synopsis read.

Emily in Paris season 4 has officially come to an end with the release of part 2 on Sept. 12. Once again, the season finds Emily bumbling through professional and personal woes, but she does so with a bubbly spirit, a great fashion sense, and a catch soundtrack to back her up! And thankfully, there's a new Mindy original in season 4 part 2 for all of us to obsess over.
In the season 4 finale, Mindy joins Emily in Rome and hops on a piano in the piazza to play on an original song she has been writing. When the song goes viral online thanks to a tourist's video, Emily later names the song "Beautiful Ruins," and that's really what the song is: beautiful! Ashley Park couldn't be more talented, and it's so exciting that she sings another original song for the series.

That album — his second — was released 16 days after the rap icon was gunned down to death. Virk, played by Vritika Gupta, jumps on the bed as she and other teenage girls rap the lyrics to “Kick in the Door.” In the second episode of the scripted series following the murder of the 14-year-old Indian-Canadian teen, the lyrical mastermind shows up again when Virk is invited to a vigil her classmates hold in honor of the future Rock and Roll Hall of Famer. The teens live in the suburban municipality located on Vancouver Island in British Columbia.
The eight episodes of Under the Bridge not only tell the story of Virk, but also weave in The Notorious B.

When news broke in early February that Mariah Carey had booked a return ticket to Las Vegas to mount another residency, it was revealed that she would design the set list as a celebration of her 2005 blockbuster album, The Emancipation of Mimi.
It inspired the title of the exclusive run — The Celebration of Mimi — as well as the timing. Carey took the stage at Park MGM’s Dolby Live to launch the 16-date residency on April 12, 2024, exactly 19 years to the day after the album was released. It’s no surprise Carey wanted to commemorate the 14-track effort, which sold more than 10 million copies worldwide and brought the elusive chanteuse back into familiar territory at the top of the charts. The success of Emancipation of Mimi was fueled by the No. 1 smash “We Belong Together” and punctuated by singles “It’s Like That,” “Shake It Off,” “Get Your Number,” “Don’t Forget About Us,...

It’s been almost 20 years since Mariah Carey last won a Grammy, so when she received the Global Impact Award from the Recording Academy’s Black Music Collective, she offered a dose of her signature comical shade.
“Is this a real Grammy? I haven’t seen one in soooooo long,” she said Thursday night as she held the award.
“It’s weird. I don’t know,” Carey continued while laughing as the audience at the Fairmont Century Plaza cheered her on. “We’ll figure out what this is later.”
Carey is easily one of the best-selling acts of all-time and holds the record for most No. 1 hits — 20 — by a solo artist. She’s been nominated for 34 Grammys, winning five: best new artist and best female pop vocal performance (“Vision of Love”) in 1991, as well as three R&b honors at the 2006 ceremony for “We Belong Together” and The Emancipation of Mimi.

It was a family affair for superstar songstress Mariah Carey as she brought her Merry Christmas One and All! tour to the Hollywood Bowl for two sold-out shows on Nov. 17 and 19.
Joining the superstar onstage both nights were her 12-year-old twins (with Nick Cannon), Moroccan and Monroe, or “Roc and Roe,” as the singer put it. Carey’s daughter, Monroe, joined her mom for a duet on a soaring “Jesus Born on This Day,” from Carey’s 1994 holiday album Merry Christmas, with Monroe also fronting a rollicking version of The Waitresses’ “Christmas Wrapping.” Moroccan made a brief appearance for “Here Comes Santa Claus (Right Down Santa Claus Lane).” Upbeat versions — complete with all the “zhuzh,” Carey noted — of her Christmas standards started out the set list with cheer.

Carly Rae Jepsen wants nothing more than to spend time with you (yes, you … really!) for “Anything to Be With You,” but for whatever reason, you don’t seem to be available, and she spends most of the video walking and twirling on city streets alone. “Anything you wanna do, I really wanna do with you,” she sings on the song, which leads off her recently released The Loveliest Time. “I can be friends with your friends, your friends/Anything to be with you.” Maybe she’s coming on a little too strong.

Mariah Carey is famous for topping the charts. In fact, she holds the record for the most number-one hits by a solo artist on the Billboard Hot 100 (19), and she became the first artist ever to hit number-one in four different decades. But of course no one can send every song they’ve recorded to the top of the charts. A number of Carey’s greatest hits didn’t reach the summit, but they belong in any discussion of her storied career. Scroll down for our countdown of her best non-chart-toppers.
Early in her career it was hard to find Carey singles anywhere but number-one. The first four from her very first album reached that position. The 1990s continued at that same pace: a whopping 14 of her chart leaders were released in that decade. The 2000s were less auspicious for her: she had career and tabloid trouble when her movie “Glitter” and its accompanying soundtrack underperformed.

On Monday night, Billy Joel was one of the few faces lingering in the otherwise largely deserted Times Square. His face appeared high in the sky, beamed onto 12 giant digital billboards in the famously chaotic midtown Manhattan neighborhood. It simultaneously beamed into TVs and internet livestreams as part of the Rise Up New York! Covid-19 benefit telethon, which Joel brought to a close with his 1976 New York City anthem, “Miami 2017 (Seen the Lights Go Out on Broadway).” A few blocks away, the lights of the Empire State Building sparkled in time with his piano.

Aside from its slate of international series developed with Zdf and Rai through the Alliance, France Televisions is set to co-produce a flurry of high-profile series aimed at global audiences, notably “Germinal,” “Josephine and Bonaparte” and the adaptation of Guillaume Musso’s bestseller “La jeune fille et la nuit.”
A modern adaptation of Émile Zola’s 1885 masterpiece, “Germinal” tells the story of a coalminers’ strike in northern France in the 1860s. Julien Lilti, the writer of Canal Plus hit series “Hippocrate,” is writing “Germinal” and will likely be collaborating with other writers. Banjiay Rights has come on board to handle international sales on the show which is currently in development.

SquareSpace has released their Super Bowl commercial and it features Keanu Reeves performing some dangerous stunt work on a motorcycle. You know, because Keanu Reeves likes to do things that are physically challenging. The ad is called "Make It Happen" and in it we see him standing on a motorcycle riding on a desolate highway. While doing this he is talking and uttering encouraging self-help inspiring phrases to himself. Then, for some reason, he starts to fly on his motorcycle. He apparently boosted his self-confidence up so much that it gave him the ability to fly. I just like Keanu Reeves so I wanted to share this.

Every week, IndieWire asks a select handful of TV critics two questions and publishes the results on Tuesday. (The answer to the second, “What is the best show currently on TV?” can be found at the end of this post.)
This week’s question: In light of recent “Galaxy Quest” and “Lord of the Rings” news, which movie/movie franchise should be rebooted as a TV series? (question courtesy of Allison Keene)
Pilot Viruet (@pilotbacon), Vice
I have so many ideas for this! During that season we got “Minority Report” and “Limitless,” I got angry about how many of these reboots/remakes/sequels are male-skewering and male-dominated and started making a list of all the movies I’d rather see instead – obviously ones that are more focused on telling stories about women and non-binary folks. “Whip It” could be a fantastic Freeform teen drama series (I’m still angry that...

Bill Skarsgård’s take on Pennywise the Dancing Clown became a pop-culture phenomenon before this year’s “It” even arrived in theaters. First made famous onscreen by Tim Curry in the 1990 miniseries adaptation of Stephen King’s tome, the interdimensional being is many things, but funny isn’t one of them.
Director Andrés Muschietti would appear to disagree, considering the caption to a drawing of Pennywise he’s shared on Instagram: “And here a little sketch i drew for pennywise’s ‘killmouth’ , one of the comedic highlights of the film.”

Jessica Chastain is one of Hollywood’s most outspoken feminists, speaking out about gender inequality and other issues on social media, Cannes press conferences, and talk shows. The two-time Oscar nominee took a more lighthearted approach to the issue on “The Tonight Show With Jimmy Fallon” last night, recording a comic segment in which she endures an increasingly sexist audition. There are many filmmaking workshops, hosted by institutions ranging from Sundance to Ifp, that allow emerging directors to assess their next projects with a group of mentors. Shudder Labs falls in line with that tradition, but comes equipped with a special focus: The new creative retreat is exclusively designed for horror directors. Hosted by Shudder, the horror streaming platform owned by AMC Networks, Shudder Labs was run by former journalist and curator Sam Zimmerman and took place June 11–15 at the Mohonk Mountain House.
Seven filmmakers participated in the lab, taking guidance from mentors that included Sarah Adina Smith (“Buster’s Mal Heart”), Larry Fessenden (director, “The Last Winter”) and Lindsay Peters (Director of the Frontieres International Co-Production Market). The Masters-in-Residence were Mike Flanagan (director, “Ouija: Origin of Evil,” “Hush,” the upcoming Stephen King adaption “Gerald’s Game”) and Nick Antosca (screenwriter, “Channel Zero,” “Hannibal,” “The Forest”).

Cut back to the year 2007...2008. About ten years ago. The horrible accident known as Spider-Man 3 had just come out. While still a financial success, reviews and fans were less than favorable to the film. Regardless, Sony Pictures still had plans for Sam Raimi to develop one more Spider-Man film, but it never happened. Many people blame the studio. Some blame the failure of Spider-Man 3 and the truth is... it's kind of all of the above.
While it's true that Spider-Man 3 was not quite a hit with fans and critics, it still grossed a huge amount of money at the box office, which means, of course, Sony planned on following it up. The real problem was Sam Raimi was exhausted, and kind of disappointed in the previous film himself. He had a plan, but his writing partner and studios wanted more villains, and also wanted Venom. All of...

This year, the Tribeca Film Festival will showcase more TV than ever before, along with robust virtual reality programming and immersive experiences, high-profile conversations with celebrities ranging from Barbra Streisand to Lena Dunham, musical performances from Aretha Franklin and Jennifer Hudson, and whole lot of panel discussions.
So what about the movies?
After years of struggling to find its footing in a highly competitive marketplace, Tribeca may have found its most successful bid for ongoing relevance. Now beginning its 16th edition, Tribeca has less to do with film and has staked its identity on becoming a major multiplatform media event.

A Revolving Door
Getting to this point has required a lot of trial and error. Tribeca has experimented with different ways of supporting filmmakers, including film distribution, and expanded its programming far beyond feature films.

Each year, the Tribeca Film Festival fills out its schedule with a variety of events that extend far past the typical film fest fare, including their signature Tribeca Talks program and a continuing bent towards the possibilities of Virtual Reality. This year’s slate is no different, offering up intimate chats between industry luminaries (did you know that Robert Rodriguez and Barbra Streisand are pals? they are!) and special screening opportunities for projects both new (Ken Burns and Lynn Novick’s “The Vietnam War”) and classic (a “Godfather” one-two punch). There’s a little something for everyone here.

On Monday, HBO issued a press release basically declaring that Big Little Lies — its seven-part limited series starring — has quietly blossomed into a big-ish hit.
Per the cabler, the well-reviewed dramedy is averaging 7 million viewers across multiple platforms ahead of Sunday’s grand finale. Just as noteworthy, is the buzz that Big Little Lies is generating on social media (Sunday’s penultimate episode was trending on Twitter just behind The Walking Dead) and around the proverbial office water cooler (or in TVLine’s case, our fountain-soda machine). I’ve been a Nintendo fan for as long as I can remember, but I have a confession to make: their hardware has never quite grabbed me. The “Big N,” as they’re often called, are well-known for showing toymaker tendencies just as much — if not more — than game developer ones, and that’s often been reflected in the way their consoles and handhelds were built. Though I’ve always had plenty of affection for the chunky, colorful designs and goofy user interfaces of everything from the Nes to the 3Ds, I’ve always preferred my tech to be a bit more sleek and stylish (perhaps as a counterpoint to my own slovenly tendencies; if I can’t be pretty, at least my cache of devices can).

Vincent D’Onofrio has clearly had a lot of fun playing Wilson Fisk on Netflix’s Daredevil show, but ol’ Hornhead has other bad guys to fight and the Kingpin has never really been happy settling down with only one nemesis. So it makes sense that D’Onofrio would be keeping an eye out for other Marvel heroes he could be battling. As reported by Screen Rant, though, there’s one costumed hero he wants to face off against more than anyone else: Spider-Man.
Over the weekend, a Marvel fan page tweeted at D’Onofrio to ask if he’d want to “have a showdown” with current Spider-Man Tom Holland, prompting D’Onofrio to enthusiastically respond that he would indeed be into it.

Given how popular Vincent D’Onofrio’s Kingpin proved to be when he debuted back on season 1 of Daredevil, it’s actually a bit surprising that he hasn’t made the jump to the big screen yet. Especially given the fact that one of the biggest complaints lobbied against Marvel films is that they always fail to present compelling villains. With that in mind, you’d think that the studio would be eager to let Kingpin start doing some damage in the movies, but for some reason, it hasn’t happened yet.
Now that Spider-Man‘s back at Marvel and getting his very own solo film coming in July, many fans thought that maybe, just maybe, D’Onofrio would find his way into the flick for a quick cameo, possibly setting up a future appearance down the road. That’s something which could have worked out real well, but it...

The film isn't actually about the case, though, it's about the Lovings behind Loving v. Virginia. What does it mean to her to get Oscar buzz for this movie?
"That people will know who Mildred and Richard Loving were," she explained. "It surprised me that more people don't know about them, because I think they're a couple that America should be extraordinarily proud of. The world should be proud of."
