Bartees Strange has released a visual for his song “Flagey God,” off his debut album Live Forever. The black-and-white clip shows Strange singing the club-influenced track, intercut with footage of a woman dancing.
“‘Flagey God’ came from a really natural and comfortable place for me musically, despite its moodiness thematically,” Strange says of the track, which is inspired by his visit to Flagey Square in Brussels.
“No one knew me there,” he adds. “I was super lost in my life at the time and confused about what to do next,...

Bartees Strange and his band performed an NPR Tiny Desk concert in the basement of his studio in Falls Church, Virginia — not too far from both his and NPR’s home base in Washington, D.C.
The indie artist played several songs from his debut album Live Forever, released last year; in light of the intimate setting, Strange smoothed out the hardcore and emo-inspired rough edges of tracks like “Boomer” and “Mustang” into a sound more reminiscent of neo-soul.

Bartees Strange made his late-night television debut with a performance of “Boomer” on Late Night With Seth Meyers Monday, January 25th.
“Boomer” is the perfect introduction to Strange’s singular mix of styles, and the performance found him effortlessly moving between the verses, which mix hip-hop cadences with indie guitar licks, to a chorus that’s pure arena rock. “You can’t save me, I been buried alive by the devil that’s in them hills,” Strange sings on the bridge, which rumbles with a little heartland blues. “You can’t touch me,...

Tonight there's quite a few Brits on television (that's a lie, there's two but one has four shows on tonight) but I'd like to say to all my British readers that I hope all of you and your loved ones are safe and far away from the violence that's erupted in London and other areas. The Us coverage has been spotty at best since most Us based news sources are still wringing their hands over the S&P rating debacle and ensuing stock market nosedive but I've been reading whatever I can get and thank those of you who have posted links on facebook for the information. It sounds truly terrifying. All of you are in my thoughts tonight. Here's your Tuesday night TV:

Andy Samberg has signed on to host the channel’s hugely successful "Shark Week" franchise (and even earned a snazzy new title, "Chief Shark Officer," for his troubles), a move which either sets us up for a bunch of disappointingly mild Samberg jokes, or a horrific tragedy, "Crocodile Hunter" style. Either way, it’s a bizarre route for the Discovery Channel, and who knew Samberg was that into Great Whites? And though it's probably not going to be funny or include any Justin Timberlake cameos (sigh), we're still going to tune in (what can we say, we love sharks) ... and, hopefully, we'll see the following Samberg bits, re-imagined just for "Shark Week."
Shark Bait in a Box
Okay, he doesn't have to wear a mustache or douchey Italian suits (although they'd both work), but Samberg should bring his 'D--- in a Box' bit to the deep waters.

Rochester, NY - Ever wonder why schools today stink compared to decades ago? Every think tank moron has their dubious reasonings that appeases their corporate masters. But the truth is extraordinarily simple: Schools dumped their education films.
Do you remember those days when the gym teacher had to pad out health class by wheeling in the 16mm projector from the Av department? They’d thread up classic tales about your body, narcotics, driving safety and manners. Things which kids nowadays can’t seem to handle.
When the Vcr arrived in schools, the 16mm projector was quickly dumped as teaching tool.
Where did these classic films go? Many arrived at the city dump. However a few lucky tens of thousands found themselves on the racks of the Av Geeks Archive. This repository of cinematic education is overseen by Skip Elsheimer. He started collecting the films after I moved out of the infamous PineHaus.

Sharks and Aliens are back with some force in 2011. It seems every other movie coming out this year involves one or the other. And joining the slew of man-eating fish flicks due to arrive this year is Aussie horror 'The Reef', Halle Berry in 'Dark Tide', a host of shark-related Syfy productions and also David R. Ellis' yet to be named 'Untitled 3D Shark Thriller'. The movie's title came up in a discussion with the director whilst chatting with New York Magazine's Vulture Ellis. Apparently not being a fan of the original 'Shark Night 3D' title, which is what is what previously known as he's been on the lookout for a new and decent re-naming. The gorgeous (and bound to be bikini clad) Sara Paxton (below) stars alongside Dustin Milligan, Katharine McPhee, Chris Carmack, Alyssa Diaz, Joel David Moore, Donal Logue, Sinqua Walls and Chris Zylka.

Gordon Ramsay has hit out at people who drink shark fin soup. The celebrity chef tried the dish in Taiwan as part of Channel 4's Gordon Ramsay: Shark Bait show, which airs this Sunday, The Mirror reports. Ramsay said: “What does it taste of? Gordon Ramsay has described how he and his production team were held at gunpoint during the filming of the upcoming Big Fish Fight for Channel 4. However, during filming Ramsay and crew members were advised by local police to leave the country after gang members kept their guns pointed at them, before pouring fuel over the celebrity chef. Ramsay told The Daily Mail: "It's a multi-billion-dollar industry, completely unregulated. We traced some of the biggest culprits to Costa (more)...

The Wrestler
For all its indie cred, adult language, and exposed body parts, Darren Aronofsky's film follows a well-trod path through sports movie cliches. Still, it's anchored by Mickey Rourke's empathetic, "I've been there and I know that" performance as a world-weary wrestler, and Marisa Tomei and Evan Rachel Wood provide needed counterbalance as a wary stripper and unforgiving daughter, respectively. Also on Blu-ray. Rent it.

Frost/Nixon
Peter Morgan's adaptation of his own stage play supplies all the "based on truth" dramatic hay that's needed, while Michael Sheen and Frank Langella sparkle in the title roles. Ron Howard's movie feels very much like a television production; as an actors' showcase, it's fine for what it is, without illuminating deeper truths. Also on Blu-ray. Rent it.

If a shark approaches, forget about fending it off with chili powder.
The effectiveness of hot chilies as a shark repellent is a myth, as you will learn if you watch this week's two-hour special edition of "Mythbusters," which kicks off Discovery Channel's annual Shark Week in which just about every show on the cable network is devoted to all things shark.
Where'd this chili powder idea come from? "Apparently, Central-American Indians used to drag chilies behind their canoes as a shark repellent," "Mythbusters" co-host Adam Savage said in a phone interview.
