Brad Pitt’s got that timeless spark — smooth charm, real emotion, and just the right bit of cool. He’s done it all, from serious dramas to wild thrill rides. His latest? A flashy Formula 1 flick, F1, that zoomed into theatres on June 27, 2025. It’s fast and fun, but die-hard F1 fans might spot a few bumps. Still, Pitt owns the screen like always.
That said, it’s no small feat — the film goes big, and Pitt once again brings that weighty, grounded energy to the screen. It’s not his first time making noise with a bold, action-packed project either.
Funny thing is, his biggest hit ever? A globe-hopping zombie thriller from 12 years ago that absolutely devoured the box office. Travel back 12 years, and you’ll land on the movie that still holds the crown as his biggest box office hit. And yes, it totally ate up the box office.

The first trailer for Project Hail Maryblasted onto screens everywhere last week, and not only did it garner acclaim from fans of the book and newcomers alike, but it also smashed a major viewership record. I think my earliest memory of an emotionally resonant zombie movie is I Am Legend. While the film could be classified as a “horror,” it’s emotionally so well done that you can’t help but find yourself in tears even thinking back on it. Over the years, we’ve had many such movies and TV shows. World War Z, very recently The Last Of Us, and not to forget the Asian gem that is Train To Busan. But this genre has reached the point of oversaturation, and unless you bring on a nuanced take like in the Korean drama Kingdom (zombies in the Joseon dynasty), it fails to be memorable in any way. Sure, some scenes can be scary, and some can be interesting because of the CGI, but at the end of the day, we’re going to be forgetting it all if it’s not on a grand scale.

During the publicity tour for F1, it was revealed by director Joseph Kosinski that Brad Pitt and Tom Cruise were circling Ford v Ferrari before it evolved into the movie that finally made it to the big screens. Directed by James Mangold, the racing drama eventually featured Matt Damon and Christian Bale in the titular roles, while Pitt and Cruise satisfied their need for speed with F1 and Top Gun: Maverick, respectively. Both films were directed by Kosinski, who has established himself as one of Hollywood's foremost directors of big-budget spectacles. And less than a week into its theatrical run, F1 has already overtaken one of Cruise's most memorable hits: Days of Thunder.
Designed as a far less airborne retread of the original Top Gun, Days of Thunder united that film's core trio of Cruise, director Tony Scott, and producer Jerry Bruckheimer. However, it failed to live up to Top Gun's high standards,...

There’s a moment in Ridley Scott’s Gladiator when Russell Crowe’s enslaved Roman general Maximus, fresh from eviscerating five foes in short order, throws his arms in the air and asks a stunned arena, “Are you not entertained? Are you not entertained?”
It would not be that far from fiction to picture the organizers of Sunday night’s Golden Bee Awards repeating the same question after the final spectacle had been presented to close out a nearly three-hour ceremony held inside Gzira’s Fort Manoel in Malta. Presented by the Mediterrane Film Festival and hosted by David Walliams, the outdoor show finished shy of midnight and by that point had featured around a dozen musical numbers (complete with props, backup dancers and custom backdrops), a slew of Hollywood presenters (Anna Camp, Chris Perfetti, Jared Harris, Karen Pittman and Thunderbolts* director Jake Schreier), three fireworks displays and even Maximus himself.

Ryan Gosling plays middle school teacher/savior of humanity Ryland Grace in Project Hail Mary, a new sci-fi movie with a lot of impressive names behind the camera. First of all, the movie is based on a novel by Andy Weir, the guy who wrote The Martian, and you may notice some similarities in the plot. In The Martian, one lone man must learn to live by himself on Mars while awaiting rescue. In Project Hail Mary, one lone man must learn to live alone after he's shot into space, since apparently he's the only one with the technical expertise to figure out why the sun is fading away; if he doesn't solve the problem, humanity will go extinct.
When Ryland Grace wakes aboard this spaceship, light years away from home, he has no memory of how he got there. Happily, the trailer is here to fill us in; you can watch it above.

Although Pitt’s film was released a month after Tom Cruise‘s Mission: Impossible 8, both actors’ movies are among the most expensive films ever made. Mi 8 is on the losing side, and it will be interesting to see how Pitt’s film does at the box office. Tom or Brad, whose movie emerges as a box office success at the end?

Two major new releases delivered completely different performances at the domestic box office this weekend. While the Brad Pitt-led sports drama F1exceeded expectations in its first three days of release, the horror comedy sequel M3GAN 2.0underperformed considerably, failing to meet the high benchmarks set by its predecessor three years ago. Total business remained strong this weekend, as the summer movie season heats up with something for everyone. Most audiences, however, seemed to be interested only in F1 — the mega-budget tent pole that unites several key individuals who worked on the smash hit Top Gun: Maverick some years ago.
Directed by Joseph Kosinski and produced by Jerry Bruckheimer, F1generated approximately $55 million in its domestic debut, which represents the second-biggest opening weekend haul in Pitt’s career, behind only World War Z. The film has received considerable acclaim for its kinetic racing sequences and Pitt’s magnetic central performance.

This weekend’s new releases at the box office saw very different results. While Warner Bros./Apple’s “F1” is off to a good start with a $55.6 million domestic/$144 million opening weekend, Universal/Blumhouse’s “M3GAN 2.0” is failing to boot with a $10 million domestic opening that is a third of the launch of its 2023 predecessor.
“F1” is the latest film produced by Apple Original Films to hit theaters with the help of a legacy studio, and by the end of next weekend it will become the Silicon Valley studio’s highest grossing theatrical release, passing the $221 million of Ridley Scott’s “Napoleon.” It also passes the $112 million of “World War Z” to become the biggest global opening ever for lead actor Brad Pitt.
“F1” carried a hefty price tag of at least $200 million before marketing costs shared by Apple and Warner Bros., the latter of which handled distribution. But the...

Star Brad Pitt is eyeing one of the biggest box office debuts of his career this weekend, with the sports drama F1 launching in theaters worldwide. The movie is also expected to deliver the top debut in the history of Apple Studios, ahead of Martin Scorsese's Killers of the Flower Moon, and is aiming for a $55 million three-day haul domestically. F1 is off to a great start, having earned excellent reviews from both audiences and critics. In fact, the movie has earned the best CinemaScore of Pitt's career, in addition to a near-perfect audience score on Rotten Tomatoes.
This establishes director Joseph Kosinski as a particularly skilled blockbuster filmmaker; his last movie was Top Gun: Maverick, which grossed nearly $1.5 billion worldwide and continues to hold a stunning 99% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes. F1 isn't far off that high benchmark; it currently holds a 97% audience score on the aggregator website,...

The Hollywood Insider - '28 Years Later' Shot on an iPhone
One of 2025’s biggest Cinematic surprises, ‘28 Years Later’ was shot not on an iPhone. An iPhone. Can You Believe That? That’s what helmed ‘28 Years Later’. Not an Arri Alexa. Not a Red Helium. An iPhone. The iPhone wasn’t always considered Cinematic. It started with snapping photos, and maybe recording a funny moment. But over time, filmmakers began using it to their advantage. I mean, it makes sense in a weird way. It’s a lot smaller, a lot lighter, and way more accessible. So when it comes to fast-paced action scenes or first-person shots, I can see the appeal. But can the camera quality and sound really compare to a professional camera rig? To think a 6.7-inch device—Apple’s iPhone 15 Pro Max—could take center stage in a franchise film, outpacing technology Hollywood has spent decades refining,...

While it took a lot longer than many filmgoers would have liked, director Danny Boyle and writer Alex Garland finally reunited for "28 Years Later," which hit theaters over the weekend. Serving as a sequel to their horror classic "28 Days Later" (and its follow-up "28 Weeks Later"), the movie picks up with a group of survivors nearly three decades into a zombie apocalypse. It's an intriguing concept that managed to bring out moviegoers en masse, leading to one heck of an opening weekend.
Sony's "28 Years Later" opened to an estimated $30 million at the domestic box office while bringing in an additional $30 million overseas. That wasn't enough to take the crown away from the live-action "How to Train Your Dragon" remake ($37 million), but it's worth noting the latter is a PG-rated family movie that's playing on nearly 4,400 screens in North America. By contrast, "28 Years Later" is an...

This article contains spoilers for "28 Years Later."
It may sound strange — for those of us who lived through it, it's strange to remember — but back before "28 Days Later" was released in 2002 in the UK (and 2003 in the US), the zombie subgenre was all but dead. Director Danny Boyle and writer Alex Garland have been stipulating that the creatures they created are not technically zombies since the film's release, yet the film's rage virus operates in a highly similar fashion to the version of the zombie created and popularized by George A. Romero in 1968's "Night of the Living Dead." While the subgenre of zombie films never entirely ceased after the release of Romero's first movie, it experienced a lull during the 1990s, as genre filmmakers eschewed the typical tropes inherent in the subgenre in favor of experimentation, as seen in films like "Dead Alive," "Cemetery Man," and "My Boyfriend's Back.

Danny Boyle’s much-anticipated sequel kicks off a new trilogy filled with surprises but what does it all mean and what can we expect next?
This article contains spoilers for 28 Years Later
Danny Boyle and Alex Garland have done it again. In the early 2000s, 28 Days Later became the most popular and influential zombie movie in decades, with its fast-moving, virally infected, not-quite-undead marauders rampaging through a post-apocalyptic England. Now Boyle and Garland have reunited with 28 Years Later, easily the most talked-about horror movie since Sinners, and the biggest zombie movie since the PG-13 dilutions of World War Z back in 2013. Compared with the countless familiar zombie movies and TV shows that have popped up since the original movie, 28 Years Later is a thorny, challenging, unpredictable work, which means there’s plenty to discuss now that it’s spent a well-attended weekend in wide release. The revived "Doctor Who" has mostly cast young (or young-ish) actors for its lead role as the Doctor. The benefit of this approach is that the young actor feels fresh to the audience; for instance, Matt Smith was almost completely unknown before being cast as the 11th Doctor, so fans didn't have any baggage from his previous roles affecting their judgment of him.
But fans having a pre-existing relationship with the new actor playing the Doctor isn't necessarily a bad thing. When Peter Capaldi was cast as the 12th Doctor, he was already known for a dozen other memorable roles, a couple of which even happened within the "Doctor Who" universe. On top of that, he had already played a doctor in "World War Z," specifically one who works for the World Health Organization. That's correct: Before Capaldi starred in "Doctor Who," he portrayed a doctor for W.H.O.

When Danny Boyle dropped 28 Years Later, it wasn’t just another zombie sequel — it was a full-blown resurrection of everything the franchise stood for, now infused with new dread, chaos, and cinematic boldness. The man behind 28 Days Later didn’t just return to polish up an old hit. He came back swinging, rebuilding his survival-horror vision from scratch and giving fans something fiercer, darker, and far more apocalyptic than expected. The virus still rages, the atmosphere is bleaker, and this time, the bite is deeper.
What makes this trilogy so addictive isn’t just the screaming infected or bleak British cityscapes — it’s that gut-twisting sense of despair mixed with sharp social commentary and emotionally raw characters. That said, if 28 Years Later got your adrenaline pumping, your mind racing, and your heart thudding in your throat, then it’s time to check out a few more cinematic...

The zombie horror genre has always been popular, but some films did it better than others. Ahead of a new zombie film, the addition in the 28 Days Laterfranchise, 28 Years Later, set to premiere on June 20, the highest-grossing zombie film of all time is making a splash on streaming.
In 2013, Brad Pitt starred in World War Z, which is now having a resurgence on streaming. The film recently headed to a new streaming home, its studio Paramount Pictures' streaming platform, Paramount+. However, it didn't make an imminent impact on the streaming platform, but World War Z reached the Top 10 globally on Netflix,Tudum reports.
World War Z has had a long, complicated relationship with Netflix. The zombie film left the streaming service in October 2024, but it's still available internationally. For the week between June 9 and 15, World War Z debuted in the charts again in seventh place. It received 3.8 million views and 7.4 million hours viewed.

Wade Eastwood was the stunt coordinator and second unit director on “Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning,” his fourth consecutive film in the franchise, capping off what has been an intense 12-year collaboration with the film’s producer and star Tom Cruise.
Before linking up with Cruise, the South African-born stunt performer turned stunt coordinator had been building quite the resume, having worked with Brad Pitt on the star’s biggest pre-“F1” action films, as well as helming the action on “X-Men” and “James Bond” movies. But its been the decade-plus intense collaboration with Cruise that has represented the pinnacle of Eastwood’s career to this point, as the star pushes his team to build upon the previous film’s lessons to propel the next one to even greater heights. Unfairly Maligned $540M Zombie Movie Gets New Lease Of Life On Netflix Following 28 Years Later Hype
A divisive zombie movie looks to be getting a boost on Netflixin the wake of the release of 28 Years Later. Back in 2002, 28 Days Later helped to breathe new life into the largely dormant zombie movie genre. It took a new approach, not making the zombies mindless and staggering creatures of the undead, but rather rage-filled killers who moved quickly like rabid animals. Its success was a reminder that the zombie movie genre still had a lot of potential. The zombie genre continued on with notable entries over the years, with 28 Years Later being the latest.
Just as with 28 Days Later, the long-awaited sequel seems to be reenergizing interest in zombie movies. 28 Years Later's rave reviews have suggested it is a return to form for the genre, which may lead to another resurgence. In fact, the excitement over 28 Years Later's release looks to...

Danny Boyle’s apocalyptic horror film 28 Days Later is officially on the digital map, and for enthusiasts of the genre, it’s a timely refresher sitting on Prime Video. With its highly anticipated sequel, 28 Years Later, releasing on June 20, 2025, Prime Video users have a chance to revisit their franchise and brush up on their zombie knowledge.
But here’s the kicker: one of Boyle’s most acclaimed films is resting on the streaming platform alongside Sunshine, one of his weakest entries. The contrast is almost jarring. Where 28 Days Later is famous for revolutionizing horror with its intensity and realism, Sunshine is often remembered for its tonal derailment and genre confusion. Watching both films compete side by side reveals Boyle’s range and the thin line between visionary gold and cinematic misfire.

Director Danny Boyle has asserted that 28 Days Later (and its sequels) are not zombie films, but that hasn't stopped fans from arguing the contrary. One scene in 28 Years Later could revive heated debate over the series.
In an interview with Jake's Takes, 28 Years Later creators Danny Boyle and Alex Garland were initially incredulous that the word "zombie" was mentioned for the first time in the series. Reminded of a scene (from the sneak peek) where one character calls an infected infant a zombie baby, Boyle mused that the actor might have improvised that line in the moment, and the bit slipped past edits. Garland added that it made sense for the character to say that because he was a foreigner, an outsider looking in.

Brad Pitt's New Racing Movie Debuts With Solid Rotten Tomatoes Score (But It's No Top Gun: Maverick)
Brad Pitt has been a consistent presence in blockbuster action movies for the better part of the past two decades. Though he first rose to fame for his dramatic roles during the 1990s – such as in A River Runs Through It, Legends of the Fall, Interview with the Vampire, Seven, and Fight Club – Pitt found further commercial success by starring in the Ocean's trilogy and solidified his status as a leading man in blockbuster action movies like Troy, Mr. & Mrs. Smith, and World War Z.
Known for his cool and charismatic performances in an array of films, Pitt won his first Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor for his performance as stuntman Cliff Booth in Quentin Tarantino's Once Upon a Time in Hollywood. It hasn't quite been 28 years since director Danny Boyle's beloved zombie movie "28 Days Later" first hit theaters in 2002, but it has been long enough for him to team up with writer Alex Garland for the long-awaited "28 Years Later" anyhow. It's easily one of the most-anticipated horror movies of the summer — if not 2025 overall. It's also a tremendous risk for Sony Pictures, with the studio putting up a sizable budget for not only this movie, but a possible trilogy. The question is, will this risky bet pay off?
"28 Years Later" is currently set to pull in between $42 and $50 million domestically when it opens next weekend, per Box Office Theory. That would be a stellar start, to put it mildly. As Deadline points out, the film is experiencing record pre-sales for the horror genre, currently outpacing "Final Destination Bloodlines," which opened to a bigger-than-expected $51 million earlier this year.

In the fine tradition of guy-cry movies such as The Shawshank Redemption and True Grit, director Nikolaj Arcel's Danish epic The Promised Land was destined to be a home video classic. The movie is proving itself consistently on Paramount+, where it continues to draw massive interest despite competition from major franchise titles. Starring Mads Mikkelsen, The Promised Land remains one of the most acclaimed films of 2023, having competed for the Golden Lion at the Venice Film Festival and made the Academy Awards' December shortlist in the International Feature category.
According to FlixPatrol, The Promised Land was the second-most-watched title on Paramount+ on June 9, behind long-time number one Gladiator II. The movie beat out Tom Cruise's mega-hit Top Gun: Maverick, which made over $1.4 billion at the worldwide box office in 2022. The Promised Land earned 179 points on June 9, compared to Maverick's 161 points. The movie has accumulated a total of 714 points...

We’ve picked 10 insanely scary Asian horror films (all ready to stream!) that’ll take you from ghostly possessions to full-on societal meltdowns. Fair warning: these ones stick with you. Sleep tight!
1. Train to Busan
Streaming on: Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, Rakuten Viki
Picture this: a high-speed train full of ordinary people suddenly becomes ground zero for the zombie apocalypse. But here’s the kicker – the real horror isn’t the infected. It’s watching how different people react when civilization crumbles around them. Some turn heroes. Some turn monsters.

The "John Wick" universe is getting ready to expand as the long-awaited spin-off "Ballerina," aka "From the World of John Wick: Ballerina," is hitting theaters this weekend. It stars Ana de Armas as Eve Macarro, a ballerina-turned-assassin out to avenge her father's death. The spin-off has been in the works for a long time. A big part of that has to do with extensive reshoots, which pushed the film back a full year. So, what's the story with these reshoots, exactly? Director Len Wiseman has cleared the air.
"There weren't reshoots," Wiseman clarified in a recent interview with /Film's Ben Pearson ahead of the release of "Ballerina." The "Underworld" director further explained that these were "additional shoots that we went out to Budapest [for]."
In 2024, it was reported that "John Wick" franchise director Chad Stahelski took the helm for the "Ballerina" reshoots. Reshoots are often seen as a bad thing, signaling potential issues with a production.

Exclusive: Longtime collaborators and friends, producer Graham King and actor Ray Winstone, are tapping into their East End roots for It’s a F*cking Liberty, a decades-spanning crime drama series currently in the works.
King will executive produce for his Gk Films banner alongside Hayley King. Winstone will also executive produce and may appear on the series, which will be written by Paul Tomalin.
It’s a F*cking Liberty is described as an epic crime family saga that tears through sixty years of London’s East End gangland history. The series is a turbulent rollercoaster following the story of a fierce matriarch’s rise to power in the 1970s through the murderous betrayals of an underworld/criminal network of bent cops, and scheming politicians – diving into numerous subplots spanning the post WWII era, the mainland Ira’s bombing campaigns, and 21st century repercussions.
