He's fought Graboids in Tremors, turned invisible in Hollow Man, gone mutant in X-Men: First Class, and saved a whole town with the power of dance in Footloose, but with upcoming Prime Video x Blumhouse supernatural series The Bondsman, Kevin Bacon may well have just outdone himself. In the show, created by former Daredevil showrunner Erik Oleson, Bacon plays Hub Halloran, a murdered bounty hunter brought back from the dead by the actual Devil in order to capture straight-up demons who have escaped from literal Hell. Sounds nuts, right? Well check out the trailer for the series below, because it looks nuts, too;
What did we tell ya? Nuts! As trailers go, this one is pretty rammed, quickly whizzing through Hub's grizzly death, hasty resurrection, and blackly comic realisation that he's now in league with Satan. But while there's some stuff in here about familial reconciliation and morality and the stuff of legitimate,...

Kevin Bacon has been plugging away in movies since making his big-screen debut in 1978's highly problematic comedy classic "National Lampoon's Animal House," and has been in so many different kinds of films over the last 47 years that there's a trivia game, Six Degrees of Kevin Bacon, that essentially holds him as the center of the cinema universe. While you can't make as many movies as Bacon has without appearing in more than a few stinkers, I don't think I've ever seen the man give a poor performance. He's been believable as heroes, villains, creeps and milquetoasts, and, despite getting cast in numerous Oscar contenders, has never competed for an Academy Award himself. That's gotta change.
The only bad thing I can say about his most recent project, "The Bondsman," is that it won't get him off the Oscar schneid. That's because it's a streaming horror series for Amazon Prime...

Like a rolling stone gathers no moss, Timothee Chalamet’s awards campaign for A Complete Unknown continues unabated. On Friday, NBC announced Chalamet will host the Jan. 25 edition of Saturday Night Live and serve as the night’s musical guest. The expectation is that Chalamet, who plays Bob Dylan in the new film, will perform Dylan songs on the broadcast.
Regardless of the playlist, Chalamet’s dual role on the broadcast will make some Saturday Night Live history. He’s among a select few non-professional singers or traditional musicians who have served as SNL hosts and performed as musicians on the same show, joining names like Lily Tomlin, Desi Arnaz, and Deion Sanders.
The SNL appearance is the latest high-profile stop on Chalamet’s press tour and awards campaign for A Complete Unknown. The actor has spent the last month promoting his work in James Mangold’s film – including a...

The Mantle Of Matlock: From Past To Present, A Look Into The Andy Griffith And Kathy Bates’ Versions
Don’t call it a comeback if it’s only a reboot by name alone. Even if it’s a name as well-known as Matlock.
Having recently glimpsed the newest iteration in the franchise about a sharp-as-a-tack, wily, aged lawyer, I’m ready to tell viewers a little about what they have in store this fall.
First of all, let me go ahead and get this out of the way now: this is not your grandpa’s Matlock. Now, there are certainly some similarities.
(Courtesy of CBS)
However, if fans of the original are looking for a gender-swapped faithful reimagining, they might find themselves mildly disappointed.
But that shouldn’t discourage you. The other thing I have to say about the upcoming series is that the first episode was Amazing!

Will Smith may have fallen in love with Stockard Channing on the set of 1993’s Six Degrees of Separation, but Channing only felt “motherly” to the rising star, who was 23 and a newly married, first-time father at the time.
Channing — who earned an Oscar nomination playing a New York socialite who connects with a young con artist played by Smith in the film — opened up about working with the rising star in a new episode of The Hollywood Reporter‘s It Happened in Hollywood podcast.
“He made a lot [of money] from his music, or even Fresh Prince [of Bel-Air],” Channing said. “Because I remember we talked about it.” Despite his massive success in music and TV at a young age, “there was no big shot stuff at all” about Smith, she said.
“He had a real survival instinct in him,” Channing added, “which was completely perfect for the part. [There was a] genuine charm and a lovely sweetness about him.

Kevin Bacon may have taken a paddle to the ass in Animal House and an arrow through the throat in Friday the 13th but he gained his first true fame with 1984’s Footloose. From there, with movies like Flatliners, A Few Good Men and, perhaps most importantly, JFK, it seemed like Kevin Bacon had worked with just about every major name in Hollywood. Thus, the greatest movie challenge of all time was born: Six Degrees of Kevin Bacon.
But, as he explained on a recent episode of Podcrushed (via Entertainment Weekly), Kevin Bacon initially thought the Six Degrees game was making fun of him. “I thought that, and this is my own acting insecurity — impostor syndrome — I thought that the joke of it was that the great actors could be connected to a loser actor like me…They were saying, ‘Look, can you believe he can be connected by Meryl Streep?...

Kevin Bacon urges Hollywood studios to cut a deal and end the strikes.
Per Deadline, Bacon made a guest appearance on The Today Show to hype up his new podcast Six Degrees with Kevin Bacon. When the Footloose star was asked about the ongoing writers' and actors' strikes in Hollywood, Bacon made clear that the strikes are not about the highly paid stars but instead those who are overlooked and underpaid. "In terms of rich actors, a very small percentage of our union is doing very, very well. Most of the people are living hand-to-mouth, those are the people that we are striking for," Bacon said.

Kevin Bacon addressed the ongoing dual Hollywood strikes today as he unveiled his new podcast Six Degrees with Kevin Bacon.
In an interview on Today show where he announced the podcast, Bacon was asked about the current status of the strikes and a response to those who would say it’s about rich actors who just want to make more money.
“In terms of rich actors, a very small percentage of our union is doing very, very well. Most of the people are living hand-to-mouth, those are the people that we are striking for,” Bacon said. “My situation is not the same as the majority of our union. When it comes to writers and actors, we are artists, so all of our membership are artists so if you do well you get to make your art. On the other side, they’re dealmakers, so if they do well, they get to make a deal.

Roar Social, a platform at the crossroads of social media and philanthropy, launches its app today in beta after three years of development and with the industry in turmoil. Tweets are out. Roars are coming.
This is another video-sharing app but, layered on top, it’s a tool hoping to nudge Gen Z and young Millennials (16-36 core) to assert their values and channel viral content and engagement to a larger social purpose.
Specifically: users signing up pick one of a dozen “hero” causes from climate change to mental health to animal rights. Each of their posts is tagged with the matching icon, meaning all videos on the site — original content as well as repurposed work from TikTok, YouTube and Facebook Reels welcome — are attached to a cause. There’s no ‘like’ option. Instead, tapping a small cartoon pig automatically donates a penny to the cause through the platform’s proprietary Roar Giving Wallet technology.

As hundreds of black-shirted SAG-AFTRA performers joined Writers Guild of America members outside Netflix’s headquarters for the first day of a historic Hollywood labor double strike, the first in more than six decades, actor and professional DJ Evan Shafran had the volume pumped along Van Ness Ave. He’d queued up his remix of Hall & Oates’ “I Can’t Go for That (No Can Do),” its apropos chorus underscored by a clip he’d sampled from a breaking TV news report about the strike going into effect after the union couldn’t agree to a new contract with the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers. As he periodically upheld one of his amplifiers, like John Cusack in “Say Anything,” toward the streaming giant’s office across the street, marchers urge him on: “You’re killing it, dude.”

[This story contains spoilers to the finale of season two of The Bear.]
Like so many people, The Bear was Molly Gordon’s favorite show of 2022. Unlike most people, she got to join her favorite show when it returned for its sophomore season. Gordon, who played Triple A in Booksmart and starred alongside Rachel Sennott in Shiva Baby, joined the Emmy-winning ensemble series as Carmy’s childhood friend Claire; the two reconnect after a chance meeting in a bodega and as they fall in love, Carmy questions whether he has the capacity to successfully open a restaurant and be happy. “I was very affected by it,” Gordon says of watching the second season for the first time. “I ate it up like candy, even though I was also sobbing. I’m so sad that it’s done, and between this and Succession being over, I don’t really know what to do.”
Here, Gordon — who, actually, is plenty busy readying her...

The following post contains spoilers for "The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special."
If James Gunn called you and asked you to be a major plot point in a project he was doing, your answer would be yes. How could it not be? Gunn makes great -- and, more importantly, fun — movies. Case in point: "The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special," which was released on Disney+ just in time for the 2022 holidays. In the special presentation, the Guardians have taken over their new home base, Knowhere. Christmas is on the way, and the gang is looking for a good present for Peter Quill, aka Star-Lord (Chris Pratt). The guy has had a rough time of it since he lost his love Gamora (Zoe Saldaña) and found out that another version of her from an earlier timeline doesn't feel the same way about him.

Exclusive: NCIS: Los Angeles alum Barrett Foa has been tapped for a recurring role opposite Uzo Aduba in Netflix’s Shondaland murder-mystery drama The Residence, from writer Paul William Davies.
Using Kate Andersen Brower’s book The Residence: Inside the Private World of the White House as a jumping off point, the eight-episode series is described as “a screwball whodunnit set in the upstairs, downstairs, and back stairs of the White House, among the eclectic staff of the world’s most famous mansion.” Its premise: 132 rooms. 157 suspects. One dead body. One wildly eccentric detective (Aduba). One disastrous State Dinner.
Foa will play Elliot Morgan, “the first gentleman” of the White House. He knows nothing about the social culture of Washington or the expectations of his role in the White House.
Cast also includes Randall Park, Andre Braugher, Susan Kelechi Watson, Ken Marino, Jason Lee, Bronson Pinchot, Isiah Whitlock Jr., Edwina Findley,...

If you've ever played the parlor game, Six Degrees of Kevin Bacon, you probably know how prolific Kevin Bacon has been over his 45-year career. The game proves, rather conclusively, that you can tie any actor, working or retired, alive or no longer with us, to a film that also starred Bacon in six associations or fewer. Initially, Bacon distanced himself from the pop-culture phenomenon, but has come around to embrace it and even created a charity based on the trivia game. The 64-year-old has been around the block more than a few times and doesn't show many signs of slowing down. In fact, it's more difficult to tear him away from a guitar and a musical stage these days than anything else. Nevertheless, here are the veteran actor's best film roles.

Irby, billed as a co-producer, is known for penning the New York Times bestsellers “Meaty,” “We Are Never Meeting in Real Life,” and “Wow, No Thank You.” She is currently developing “Meaty” at Comedy Central with Abbi Jacobson and Jessi Klein, and previously worked on “Tuca & Bertie,” “Work in Progress” and “Shrill.

On Nov. 8, Norman Lloyd will celebrate his 106th birthday, which is just one more accomplishment for a man whose nearly-100-year career is filled with amazing milestones. That list includes Alfred Hitchcock, Orson Welles, Charlie Chaplin, Buster Keaton, Elia Kazan, Jean Renoir, Robin Williams, Martin Scorsese, Denzel Washington, Mark Harmon, Cameron Diaz, Judd Apatow and Amy Schumer.
As his contemporary Karl Malden summed up in 2007, “He is the history of our industry.”
Lloyd was born Norman Perlmutter Nov. 8, 1914, in Jersey City, N.J. He took singing and dancing lessons and was a paid professional by the age of 9. He performed with...
