Jonah Hill is set to direct and star in the comedy feature Cut Off for Warner Bros.
The film has landed a $10 million California tax credit and is expected to begin production later this year. Cut Off, which has not yet solidified its cast, centers on a pair of fraternal twins whose wealthy parents stop supporting them financially.
Hill recently wrapped production on the Apple feature Outcome, which is slated for release later this year and stars Hill opposite Keanu Reeves, Cameron Diaz and Matt Bomer. Hill produced the film through his Strong Baby banner alongside Matt Dines and Ali Goodwin.
Strong Baby is also behind the Benito Skinner-led series Overcompensating from Amazon and A24.
Hill’s previous movies as director include Mid90s and the Netflix documentary Stutz. His recent onscreen credits include You People, Don’t Look Up, The Beach Bum and Don’t Worry, He Won’t Get Far on Foot.

Although Harrison Ford is currently making headlines for his gruff nature on set, following his works on Captain America: Brave New World, the actor has been completely opposite, during his interviews. So much so that he even made waves for his witty remarks about his Apple TV+ show, Shrinking co-star Jason Segel.

While it was rumored that Harrison Ford wasn’t aware of who Jason Segel was, before collaborating on Shrinking, the veteran legend debunked the gossip with a hilarious anecdote. Appearing on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, promoting the Apple TV+ show, Ford not only claimed to be aware of Segel’s works but also shared a rather interesting reaction to his role in Forgetting Sarah Marshall.

“Elle,” the “Legally Blonde” prequel series, has found Elle’s mom.
June Diane Raphael has joined the Amazon Prime Video project as Eva, joining the previously announced Lexi Minetree as Elle. The series follows a younger Elle Woods, who was played by Reese Witherspoon in the two “Legally Blonde” films, finding her footing in high school.
“Elle” is created by Laura Kittrell, who is an executive producer and co-showrunner alongside Caroline Dries. Witherspoon is executive producing the show through her Hello Sunshine banner, alongside Lauren Neustadter and Marc Platt. The first two episodes will be directed by Jason Moore. “Elle” is produced by Hello Sunshine and Amazon MGM Studios.
The original 2001 “Legally Blonde” film was a box office success, grossing over $140 million worldwide. Its sequel, “Legally Blonde 2: Red, White, and Blonde,” was released in 2003. A direct-to-video third film came out in 2009, which Witherspoon produced but did not star in.

It’s always refreshing when a show learns from its own mistakes. While 2024’s SAG Awards ceremony was a mishmash of tonally dissonant scripting and segments in the show’s first year on Netflix, 2025’s SAG Awards showed a marked improvement rooted in what makes the Screen Actors Guild tick.
The ceremony opened with a pre-taped segment featuring “Hacks” — basically bonus “Hacks” for everyone missing the show since its spring 2024 premiere. Right away this worked better than the kind of opening that arbitrarily forces film and TV crossovers, instead focusing on a show that is about the industry, and a character with a successful performance career, Deborah Vance (Jean Smart).
Like the rest of Hollywood’s awards season since the Golden Globes, the SAG Awards carried the emotional weight of January’s Los Angeles wildfires, from videos dedicated to L.A. on film and the SAG-AFTRA Foundation’s aid for members in need,...

Timothée Chalamet’s expression was one of genuine shock when he heard his name called out at the 31st annual Screen Actors Guild Awards. However, the talented thespian has his sights set on much more than simply his SAG honor for Outstanding Male Actor in a Leading Role. No, Chalamet doesn’t have any intention of resting on his laurels, and the star of A Complete Unknown made it crystal clear during his acceptance speech that he wants to be one of Hollywood's “greats.” Chalamet said:
"I can’t downplay the significance of this award [known as The Actor] because it means the most to me, and I know we’re in a subjective business, but the truth is I’m really in the pursuit of greatness. I know people usually don’t talk like that, but I want to be one of the greats. I’m inspired by the greats. I’m inspired by the greats here tonight.

The SAG Awards, which was livestreaming tonight on Netflix from Los Angeles’ Shrine Auditorium, paid tribute to actor’s roots in everything from soap operas to commercials to Law & Order. It also spotlighted reunions galore, including for series New Girl, Gossip Girl, The X Files and The Good Place (a la Challengers), as well as Forgetting Sarah Marshall.
The fete kicked off with a surprise reunion between host Kristen Bell and The Good Place co-stars Ted Danson and William Jackson Harper, who paid homage to the steamy triumvirate in Luca Guadagnino’s tennis drama Challengers.
Later in the evening, Bell was spotted at the bar alongside former Forgetting Sarah Marshall co-star Jason Segel. The two paid a winking homage to the movie’s breakup scene, in which Segel gets dumped by Bell’s TV starlet character while fully nude. “It doesn’t really have the same effect with the towel over your pants,...

Kristen Bell returned as host of the SAG Awards on Sunday and opened her monologue with a song.
Bell addressed the audience with a tribute that honored the creatives in the room who shared the same dream — to become an actor. “I just want to say everyone in this room, and I do mean everyone, including the camera operators on the side over here and over here, the writers backstage, the director in the booth and all of the actors in their seats. Everyone started out as a kid in ‘Somewhere, comma, Earth,’ going to bed and waking up every morning thinking, ‘It’s going to be me,'” she said. “So yes, Justin Timberlake owes us all a piece of that song. Russell Brand has shut down his addiction and mental health charity, UK media revealed yesterday.
The Sun newspaper reports that the national Charity Commission was told back in September 2024 that the comedian turned online guru’s Stay Free Foundation “no longer operates,” and was removed from the official register of charities last month.
Brand founded the charity following his own recovery from heroin addiction in 2003. He was a frequent advocate for health services to provide more support for addicts, and in 2013 made a documentary about the subject for the BBC.
The move follows a 2023 investigation jointly between Channel 4’s Dispatches programme and The Sunday Times newspaper, in which four women accused him of sexual assault between 2006 and 2013. Brand denies all allegations against him, saying he is the victim of an establishment smear campaign. He recently moved to the US from his home in the UK.

One of the most popular Super Bowl Lix commercials featured The Muppets in an ad for Booking.com. Despite airing late in the fourth quarter when the game was already decided, the commercial had fans talking and the consensus was, the beloved franchise needs to return, and it needs to be done right.
As with many Super Bowl Lix commercials, the one featuring The Muppets debuted about nine to ten days before the big game. As of this writing, it has garnered 93 million views and there is an overall feeling of nostalgia attached to seeing Jim Henson's famous creations again, even if it's a 30-second commercial for a travel booking website.
One fan said it best on X, formerly Twitter (via ComicBook):

Jason Segel is best known for his role as the adorable boyfriend Marshall Eriksen in the sitcom How I Met Your Mother. While he has been a household name because of the show, he finally got his feature film breakthrough with the comedy Forgetting Sarah Marshall (last name not related to Himym). He also wrote the script for the film.
One of the most iconic scenes in the comedy is his fully frontal n*de scene at the beginning of the film. Segel’s scene reportedly caught the attention of actor Harrison Ford when he was offered the role in Shrinking. Ford mentioned that he even sent Segel a note after watching his n*de scene in the film.

Will Ferrell had already notched his next starring role for Amazon MGM Studios way before the poor reviews for his latest flick, You’re Cordially Invited, hit the internet. However, Zac Efron has now been cast in that same project. The Iron Claw and High School Musical actor will team up with Ferrell for the upcoming movie, Judgement Day, which was originally announced back in November 2024. Believe it or not, this will mark the first time that the Hollywood heavyweights have ever worked together.
The comedy is slated to be directed by none other than Nicholas Stoller. Stoller, who just wrote and helmed the lackluster You’re Cordially Invited, also starring Reese Witherspoon, will reunite with not only Ferrell, but Efron, too. Stoller and Efron famously collaborated on the must-see Neighbors (2014) and its less impressive 2016 sequel, Neighbors 2: Sorority Rising. Check out the synopsis for the upcoming venture below (per Deadline):...

If you’re looking for award-contender movies to watch on streaming or on-demand video this weekend, we have some suggestions. Our list includes an Oscar-nominated top pick that recently became available for home viewing, three other new releases on streaming or VOD (one of which is an Academy Award nominee), and a recommendation of a past Oscar nominee that would make for a nice double feature with the top pick.
Top pick: Sing Sing
There aren’t a lot of uplifting prison dramas, so Sing Sing is a unique movie. The true-life drama is a three-time Academy Award nominee: Best Actor for Colman Domingo, Best Original Song for “Like a Bird” by Abraham Alexander and Adrian Quesada, and Best Adapted Screenplay, with screenplay by Clint Bentley and director Greg Kwedar and story by Bentley, Kwedar, Clarence “Divine Eye” Maclin, and John “Divine G” Whitfield. For a long time, it has seemed as though there are just no good comedy movies. Anyone who grew up in the age of Judd Apatow films in the 2000s will surely have noticed the lack of decent big-budget comedy offerings, and that's essentially because studios have all but abandoned them. While laughs still thrive in the indie arthouse world and on television, it's more than a little frustrating that some of the biggest names from the Apatow era haven't used their streaming projects to keep the laughs coming.
Will Ferrell is one example. I don't think it's a stretch to call him one of the funniest men alive, and yet the days of "Step Brothers" and "Anchorman" seem so long ago. Instead, as streaming has come to dominate the moviemaking landscape, Ferrell has been spending his time making uninspired parodies such as "Holmes & Watson" and starring in mixed-bag Christmas streaming movies like "Spirited.

On this week’s episode of The Discourse, host Mike DeAngelo sits down with Nicholas Stoller, the filmmaker behind “You’re Cordially Invited,” a star-packed wedding comedy hitting Prime Video on January 30. Stoller, the mind behind “Forgetting Sarah Marshall” and “Neighbors,” returns with another laugh-out-loud project, this time revolving around two weddings that are double-booked at the same venue. Will Ferrell steps in as the devoted (and increasingly unhinged) father of one bride, while Reese Witherspoon plays the protective, take-no-prisoners sister of the other.

Exclusive: Russell Brand co-hosted one of the BBC’s flagship live television events just months after an employee re-filed a decade-old complaint about his conduct.
In March 2017, Brand was handed a presenting role on BBC Studios-produced telethon Comic Relief, during which he introduced new comedy acts in a bid to raise money for charity.
The Comic Relief booking came after a BBC employee decided in 2016 to re-raise a complaint they originally made in 2007 about Brand urinating in a cup in front of colleagues during the making of his Radio 2 show.
As part of the complaint, the employee also raised broader concerns about Brand’s conduct, including rumors that he would bring “groups of girls” to BBC premises. Brand has always denied wrongdoing.
The revelation shows that the BBC missed repeated warnings about Brand’s behavior, that complaints were not confined to an isolated historical event, and that the...

There is really nothing that is not completely predictable about Amazon Prime Video’s latest big budget romantic comedy, but with Reese Witherspoon back in the genre, and Will Ferrell doing what he does best, the chemistry is there, and so are some laughs, including a real Lol moment involving Ferrell and an uncooperative alligator that is a good reason comedies should probably best be seen with a crowd. Unfortunately, despite its stars and fan-friendly genre, this one is straight to streaming. At least in a Valentine’s Day period, You’re Cordially Invited qualifies more appropriately as a far more pleasant date movie than the horror and action Valentine’s movie the studios have planned this year. It isn’t going to make you forget My Best Friend’s Wedding, Bridesmaids and Father Of The Bride anytime soon, but it’ll do, even as the ‘R’ rating here seems a little harsh.

If there is one song you will be left struggling to get out of your head after watching “You’re Cordially Invited,” it will be “Islands in the Stream.” There are no less than three versions of the Dolly Parton and Kenny Rogers song sung by the cast in the film — but are they actually singing themselves?
Now streaming on Prime, the movie — directed by “Forgetting Sarah Marshall” and “Neighbors” vet Nicholas Stoller — centers on two families who unknowingly have weddings double booked at one tiny inn. One is for Jenni (Geraldine Viswanathan), booked by her dad Jim (Will Ferrell). The other is for Neve (Meredith Hagner), booked by her sister Margot (Reese Witherspoon).
Eventually, Margot and Jim agree to try and share the space for the weekend. They trade off between taking the outside and indoor event space, but when a massive rainstorm hits, Jim and his family are forced to crash the indoor festivities.

“You’re Cordially Invited” marks the first time Reese Witherspoon and Will Ferrell have starred in a movie together. The collaboration felt like a long time coming — for one of them, at least.
“Nick Stoller, who wrote the movie, he did ‘Neighbors’ and ‘Forgetting Sarah Marshall.’ He called me, and he was like, ‘So, I have this movie, and it’s starring Will Ferrell—’ and I was like, ‘I’m in,'” Witherspoon revealed during an interview on “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon” on Wednesday. The actress then explained that she’d been waiting well over 20 years to work with Ferrell when “You’re Cordially Invited” came around.
“The first time I met Will, and the only time I’d ever worked with Will [was] in 2001 when I hosted ‘SNL,'” she recalled.

Will Ferrell and Reese Witherspoon bring the chaos in this wedding showdown.
As a rom-com writer, this is one movie I’ve had on my radar for months – Prime Video is about to drop their film “You're Cordially Invited” on Thursday, Jan. 30. Starring two comedy legends in Reese Witherspoon and Will Ferrell, the story follows Jim (Ferrell), who just wants to throw the perfect wedding for his daughter (Geraldine Viswanathan). But things take a turn when he finds out the venue is double-booked, as Margot (Witherspoon) is planning her sister’s big day at the same time. As you can imagine, neither family is willing to back down and so chaos ensues… along with (what I can only guess) is a love connection? Find out when the film drops on Prime Video.

Weddings are such fertile ground for star-driven comedies it seems impossible to reinvent the sub-genre. A few manage to add a new spin to a setting that has been codified by the likes of “My Best Friend’s Wedding,” “Wedding Crashers,” and “27 Dresses.” “Palm Springs” is an excellent recent example, for instance. “Anyone But You” was less creative but more financially successful thanks to the hottie pair of Glen Powell and Sydney Sweeney.
Into this fray enters “You’re Cordially Invited,” written and directed by Nicholas Stoller, whose efforts include “Forgetting Sarah Marshall” and “Neighbors.” Destined for streaming on Prime Video (like so many comedies these days), this matrimonial romp stars Will Ferrell and Reese Witherspoon. While it’s often funny thanks to an excellent supporting cast, it also drags on too long, and comes to an unearned rom-com conclusion. Let’s just say Ferrell and Witherspoon do not ignite the screen opposite one another,...

If ever there were a season in need of some lighthearted escapism, this winter would surely be it. So audiences may well embrace Amazon’s wedding comedy, “You’re Cordially Invited” — streaming on Prime January 30th — as the equivalent of fast-food comfort. It’s familiar, it goes down easy, and you barely have to make an effort. But when it’s over, you’ll either instantly forget it or wonder why you’ve got such a sour taste in your mouth.
The most surprising thing about this by-the-numbers comedy, in fact, is that it comes to us from writer-director Nicholas Stoller. He updated Kermit & Co. so delightfully in “The Muppets,” tartly reconceived the revenge rom-com with “Forgetting Sarah Marshall,” and scored on the small screen with both “Platonic” and the updated “Goosebumps.”
So it’s tempting to assume that Stoller’s participation here is akin to that of a franchise owner: he set up shop,...

It’s a sign of the times that a good, old-fashioned date movie featuring two of the most bankable movie stars of the early aughts, Reese Witherspoon and Will Ferrell, is bypassing theaters altogether in early 2025. When it comes to writer-director Nicholas Stoller’s latest rom-com — if that’s the word for a film where two adults set out to sabotage one another’s wedding plans — you’re cordially invited to watch “You’re Cordially Invited” at home. The Prime release should play great at any scale while its stars are crossed at one another, but miscalculates their chemistry in a gratuitous and slightly icky epilogue.

I’m unsure what to make of Prime Video’s You’re Cordially Invited. This film has a fantastic pedigree behind it. First, Will Ferrell and Reese Witherspoon are two reliable comedy stars; this is the first film they have starred in together. They share excellent antagonistic chemistry.
Another factor is You’re Cordially Invited’s director, Nicholas Stoller, who has made some of the best comedy movies of this century, including Forgetting Sarah Marshall, the Neighbors franchise of films, and the unfairly underseen (and box office failure) Bros.
However, you have a likable comedy that is too recycled and plays it too safe for its good, never living up to its War of the Roses premise. Albeit, a Saturday Night Live-esque version of such.

Actress and producer Kristen Bell will host the upcoming SAG Awards, honoring the best in acting, the organization announced on Monday.
The star of “Nobody Wants This,” “The Good Place” and “Veronica Mars,” Bell is returning to host for her second time, after taking the helm in 2018 when she was the first-ever host. The show is often run without a host — Megan Mullally (in 2019) and Idris Elba (in 2024) are the only other emcees in the ceremony’s 31-year history.
“Kristen Bell’s wit, warmth and charm makes her the perfect fit for our show — a night celebrating actors and the outstanding performances of the year,” SAG Awards executive producer Jon Brockett said in a Monday statement.” Plus, everybody wants this.”
“Thrilled to be hosting the SAG Awards again this year” Bell added. “I’m honored to be asked back and can’t wait to share the evening with my fellow actors,...

Both wedding parties decide to go through with it, which inevitably leads to comical circumstances as the father of the bride and the sister of the other bride go head to head. Notable funnyman Bill Hader has had an incredible career in movies and television as an actor, director, and writer, though even big fans of his might not know he was also a member of the South Park writing staff. Most people probably know Bill Hader best for his years on SNL, an eight-season run that resulted in some of the show's most iconic characters, including Stefon and Anthony Peter Coleman. Hader's post-SNL career has been arguably more impressive, with his shows Barry and Documentary Now! earning rave reviews.
Even during his time on SNL, Hader was expanding his horizons, dabbling in movies and TV shows outside the purview of NBC. During his time on the show, he was also consulting on the hit animated series South Park. South Park needs little introduction. The Comedy Central show premiered in 1997 and has remained one of the most important cultural touchstones and...

The 2007 teen comedy Superbad has an outstanding ensemble cast full of big-name stars. Most of Superbad's best quotes are from its three main characters, Seth, Evan, and Fogell aka McLovin, who are played by Jonah Hill, Michael Cera, and Christopher Mintz-Plasse, respectively. Directed by Greg Mottola, Superbad is written by comedic partners Evan Goldberg and Seth Rogen, the latter of whom plays Officer Michaels in the film. The protagonists, Seth and Evan, are loosely based on Rogen and Goldberg and their real-life experiences growing up as seniors in high school in Vancouver, Canada.
Superbad was the 21st highest-grossing movie in 2007 with a domestic total of $121.46 million. It was a breakout movie for both Hill and Cera and is widely considered a landmark film in the modern comedy genre. Did Jason Segel almost quit How I Met Your Mother? (Photo Credit – Facebook)
Despite How I Met Your Mother’s success, Jason Segel felt fulfilled. Although he was juggling multiple film roles, including parts in This Is 40 and The Muppets, he admitted, “I was depressed.” Talk about a plot twist! You could pretty much call any adult who sings with puppets to be strange, but Jason Segel has run with it, once being called “weird” and making a career of it. And judging by Forgetting Sarah Marshall, he’s more man than muppet…
Appearing on Today (with Entertainment Weekly), Jason Segel remembered his time working with Judd Apatow initially on Freaks and Geeks, in which he played Rush-loving drummer Andopolis. It was here that Segel – like so many – was taken in by Apatow, who provided the budding actor with advice that would change his course. “It was a bit of an apprenticeship period, where we literally learned how to write a script. And his parting words to me were, ‘Listen, Jace, you’re a weird dude. The only way you’re going to make it is if you write your own material.’ He was right, and it changed my life.

That’s a 25-year-old guy. And this is, I think, a more sophisticated version of vulnerability that you only achieve from life stuff. The hit Apple TV+ series “Shrinking” features an unlikely pairing between actors Jason Segel and Harrison Ford. Despite their 38-year age difference, Segel and Ford have developed strong on-screen chemistry playing opposing therapist roles on the show.

Warning: Contains spoilers for Season One of Shrinking
AppleTV+’s Shrinking, which returns for its second season today, has a provocative premise: Would clients actually be better off if their therapists decided not to lead them toward the insights that would improve their lives, but rather just told them straight up what to do?
The show’s seeming position on this is somewhat inconsistent. Most patients are portrayed thriving when their unorthodox therapist Jimmy (Jason Segel) bosses them around. But Season One ends with therapy client Grace (Heidi Gardner) pushing her emotionally abusive husband off a cliff, after telling Jimmy about her fantasy of doing that, to Jimmy’s enthusiastic affirmation; he’s under the impression that she’s being hyperbolic, but still! You might think a connection to the criminal case might lead Jimmy to abandon his new proactivity; you’d be wrong.
But, all of that is beside my point,...

Actor Kristen Bell reflects on a challenging time in her career when Veronica Mars was canceled. The show, which ran from 2004 to 2007, followed teenage sleuth Veronica (Bell) navigating complex cases in her small town of Neptune, California. Around the same time, Bell filmed the 2008 romantic comedy Forgetting Sarah Marshall, where she played the titular character opposite Jason Segel and Mila Kunis.
Bell recapped the moment when Veronica Mars' abrupt ending coincided with shooting the pivotal breakup scene in Forgetting Sarah Marshall during an interview with Vanity Fair. Despite the transition from a drama series to a comedy film, Bell's experience during that period was marked by the bittersweet task of moving on from a character she embodied for years. Check out her interview below:
That morning I had received an email that Veronica Mars was canceled, so the irony was so thick because I think I was just talking in...

The impressive performances of Shrinking's star-studded cast helped the comedy become a hit series. Shrinking season 1 received a 91% critical score and an 87% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes, with both critics and general audiences impressed by the series' balance between comedy and the exploration of a heartfelt story. Season 1's success led to Shrinking season 2 being greenlit, with the series becoming one of Apple TV+'s most well-regarded comedies.
Created by Jason Segel, Bill Lawrence, and Brett Goldstein, Shrinking tells the story of a therapist, Jimmy, who takes an unorthodox approach to helping his patients by telling them what he really thinks about their problems. While this leads to many comedic situations, the series also explores difficult topics and emotions, as Jimmy, his daughter, Alice, and their loved ones grapple with the death of Jimmy's wife, Tia. Even though Jimmy is the main character, many others in his life, including his colleagues,...

Kristen Bell has a deep history with the romantic comedy genre, and she has finally made a worthy follow-up to one of her best movies with Netflix's Nobody Wants This. Bell began her career in the late 90s and early 2000s, but it was not until 2008 that she landed one of her breakout roles. This was in the romantic comedy Forgetting Sarah Marshall, wherein Bell plays the eponymous ex-girlfriend. In the movie, a man named Peter takes off to Hawaii after a tragic breakup with his girlfriend, Sarah.
After Forgetting Sarah Marshall, Bell acted in several more romantic comedy films, including Serious Moonlight, Couples Retreat, When in Rome, and You Again. While this trend helped establish the actors strength in this genre, she spent many years never really making a rom-com movie that was as great as Forgetting Sarah Marshall. This has changed, as Bell finally has the perfect follow-up to her 2008 film,...
