As early as the Spike Jonze directed video for their debut single “Da Funk” – a surreal but melancholy tale about an anthropomorphic dog wandering through the moonlit streets of New York, solidifying their music as the eternal soundtrack for nocturnal meditations – the electronic duo exhibited a mastery of visual iconography unlike anyone else. Their continually evolving sound and perchance for experimentation resulted in some of the most imaginative videos of their era, but it’s clear that Daft Punk’s obsession with film could not be contained to such minor excursions. Some of these flirtations were better than others – their directorial debut Electroma produced an honorable (if not altogether successful) result, while their tremendous work composing the soundtrack for Tron: Legacy elevated a potentially middling watch into an enthralling exercise in audio-visual synergy – but it was in 2003 that they...

Just when we thought we’d heard the last of Daft Punk, the French funk duo are gifting us with nine unreleased tracks.
The new songs will feature on a new edition of 2013’s Random Access Memories to celebrate its 10th anniversary.
The Grammy winning album was originally released in 2013 and included tracks including “Get Lucky”, “Lose Yourself to Dance” and “Instant Crush”.
The album also features collaborations with the likes of Pharrell Williams, Nile Rodgers and Strokes frontman Julian Casablancas.
The duo, made up of Thomas Bangalter and Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo – who always appear under the guise of helmets – announced the end of the band in 2021.
At the time, the pair revealed the news in an eight-minute video titled “Epilogue” on their YouTube channel. The clip is an excerpt from their 2006 science-fiction film Electroma.
Random Access Memories was their last full album release before their split after nearly 30 years of making music together.

Daft Punk have shared a behind-the-scenes clip revealing the original storyboards for their beloved 1997 Michel Gondry-directed music video for “Around the World.” The video — originally part of the band’s DVD, D.A.F.T., also released in 1997 — showcases hand-drawn storyboards with scribbled instructions.
The original music video features numerous dancers moving around a stage in various costumes, including a group of mummies and women in synchronized swimming attire. The placement of the groups of dancers, drawn as stick figures, can be seen in the storyboards.

Pioneering electronic duo Daft Punk have decided to call it a day. The French group's publicist has confirmed that they have decided to retire. To announce their retirement, the group released a video titled "Epilogue," which is an excerpt from their 2006 film Electroma. Thomas Bangalter and Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo started Daft Punk in 1993, and went to great lengths to keep their personal lives out of the way. They adopted ornate helmets and gloves to assume robot personas, later creating a rabid following and influencing the worlds of electronic and dance music.
In the "Epilogue" video, the Daft Punk members are out in the desert, wearing their iconic helmets, when one of them removes their jacket to reveal an energy pack. The first robot presses a button on the pack and walks away as the other one explodes. The camera cuts to a sunset, while Daft Punk's "Touch" is played in the background.

Daft Punk, the widely celebrated and influential electronic duo, have broken up.
The group announced the decision via an eight-minute sequence, dubbed “Epilogue,” taken from their 2006 film, Electroma, in which two robots — meant to represent band members Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo and Thomas Bangalter — venture into a desert where one gets blown up. An image of two robot hands forming a triangle then flashes on-screen with the time-stamp: 1993-2021.
Kathryn Frazier, Daft Punk’s longtime representative, confirmed the breakup to Rolling Stone but declined to provide any details on the split.

“She’s Allergic To Cats” follows Michael Pinkney (played by Michael Pinkney), a dog groomer in Hollywood who strives to be more than his lowly job. He lives in the shadow of the film industry and resides in a crappy, rat-infested apartment. His mind constantly wanders into a dreamscape that resembles his analog video experiments. B
ut when Pinkney meets Cora (Sonja Kinski), the girl of his dreams, his life soon spirals out of control. On their very first date, they travel through a dark path that descends into surreal chaos where Pinkney’s greatest hopes and worst fears are realized. Breaking down the barriers between fantasy and reality, “She’s Allergic To Cats” dives deep into psychological insanity via experimental video art techniques and romantic comedy tropes. No stranger to the world of film, Daft Punk has provided the scores for Tron:Legacy and Interstella 5555: The 5tory of the 5ecret 5tar 5ystem, made their own film with Daft Punk’s Electroma, and were even depicted (briefly) in this year’s stellar Eden. They’re now getting the documentary treatment in Daft Punk Unchained and today brings the first trailer.
Airing this summer in France, it’ll now hit worldwide sometime later this year and comes from director Hervé Martin Delpierre. This first preview seems to go deep into the mystery surrounding Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo and Thomas Bangalter, but hopefully it also explores the process of making their distinct music.
Featuring interviews with Pharrell Williams, Nile Rodgers, Giorgio Moroder, Kanye West, Michel Gondry, Paul Williams, Peter Lindbergh, Leiji Matsumoto, Pete Tong, and much, check out the trailer and poster below.

It's been a while since we last had a look at a film from the central Asian nation of Kazakhstan in these pages but with Wanted director Timur Bekmambetov hailing from that nation and actively looking to spur and support local production - particularly of action oriented cinema - it seems only a matter of time before we see a whole lot more. Case in point, Kairzhan Orynbekov's Heist He Wrote.Orynbekov's directorial debut after picking up support credits on Daft Punk's Electroma and 2005 action epic Nomad: The Warrior, Heist He Wrote revolves around a group of would-be screenwriters who capture a little more attention than intended when a script they wrote for a competition catches the eye of a local mobster who forces them...

Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo and Thomas Bangalter, better known as the french electronic duo Daft Punk, are noted for straying from conventions and playing by their own set of rules. This could partially explain why the duo’s directorial debut Electroma- 1) does not feature any music by Daft Punk, and 2) does not feature the musicians themselves in their iconic robotic garb (Peter Hurteau and Michael Reich are credited as Robot #1 and Robot #2 in the film).
Take everything you would picture in your mind when thinking about a “Daft Punk movie” and throw it out the window. Instead of creating a musical synth pop adventure for the whole family, Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo and Thomas Bangalter take a much more experimental and moody approach in Electroma. There is no dialogue whatsoever, and the pace of the film is very subdued and deliberate. Some might even consider Electroma to be a tad pretentious,...

You know how a new track will come out and you'll start listening to it constantly? Yeah, that's what I'm doing right now. The first official track for the "Tron Legacy" soundtrack from Daft Punk is out, and it's the tune you've been hearing echoing in the background for the trailers. Despite that, it's still pretty neat to just listen to the pure instrumentals and get a better taste of what else to expect from Daft Punk.Along with that, there's a picture down below of the guys all Tron-ed out. If you're interested in getting the "Tron Legacy" original motion picture soundtrack it'll be out in stores on December 7th. Do you want to purchase it now? If you're a huge Daft Punk fan you probably should because you'll get a movie-sized poster of the guys. Ioncinema.com's Eye Candy of the week is ... -- In what seems to be one of the most existentialist and pretentious films ever made, there is indeed a hint of genius in the teaser for Daft Punk’s Electroma. Not much is known about this film made by regular Daft Punk collaborators Thomas Bangalter and Guy Manuel De Homen- Christo. The film follows the story of two robots, on their quest in becoming human. The film premiered in Cannes in May 2006 to mixed reviews. Specifically for the monotonous pacing.
