The latest trailer has been released for Arkane Studios’ Dishonored 2 ahead of its launch next week, this time taking an in-depth look at co-protagonist Corvo and why the studio decided to give the assassin his own voice in the stealth RPG sequel.
Set 15 years after the events of the first game, Corvo’s primary concern this time around is protecting his daughter Emily, who has seen fit to follow in her father’s footsteps by becoming an assassin.
Due to the way in which Dishonored 2‘s narrative is structured this time around and the close relationship shared by its two playable characters, Arkane has taken the opportunity to give Corvo his own voice.
“He’s seen a lot and is still facing these crazy threats to the throne and to the empire,” says director Harvey Smith in the video, before adding that the developer simply “wanted to see what Corvo felt like with a voice.

There’s a long list of Star Wars videogames that never reached gamers, and today brings us more information on a proposed “sequel” to the Star Wars movies (at the time) which could have made many Expanded Universe fans happy. Come inside to learn more about Shadows of the Sith!
Over the last few months, I've had the good fortune to chat with former LucasArts developers about Star Wars games we all enjoyed. Even more exciting, however, has been the fact that they've revealed some never before heard details on Star Wars games that never saw the light of day. It's been a bittersweet process (as some of these would have been amazing to play), but very enlightening as to the goings on within LucasArts at the time.

When the title for Star Wars: The Force Awakens was initially announced, it was well-received by almost all fans of the saga. The Force Awakens had a healthy dose of mysticism mixed with subtlety and a though-provoking tone. But most of all, it definitely conveyed a message and a promise for something grander. However, there was a time when the seventh movie almost inherited a title from a book that used to be canon.
Pablo Hidalgo, Creative Executive for the Lucasfilm Story Group, told Jedi News:
"For longest time, the Tfa title was the same as an old novel. Thankfully it changed. :) With so many books, it's inevitable... it was Shadow (singular) of the Empire for a while."

Back in 1996, a novel was released which filled in some of the gaps between The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi, but the big difference with Shadows of the Empire was that it was treated like one of the movies, with merchandising and a huge amount of promotion surrounding its release. However, it turns out that Star Wars: The Force Awakens very nearly borrowed this title from the now no longer canon novel as Pablo Hidalgo (Lucasfilm's creative executive and its "in-house Star Wars geek") has revealed the following on Twitter about early plans for the movie: @justinlasalata for longest time, the Tfa title was the same as an old novel. Thankfully it changed. :) With so many books, it's inevitable — Pablo Hidalgo (@pablohidalgo) December 25, 2015 @VegaArts_ @justinlasalata it was Shadow (singular) of the Empire for a while. — Pablo Hidalgo (@pablohidalgo) December 25, 2015 Whether this was actually going...

The Star Wars: The Force Awakens title was announced to generally accepting adulation from fans, though there were a few detractors. Now, it has become a fixture in the franchise lexicon, and it's hard to image the 7th chapter in this longstanding sci-fi series being called anything else. But there was a time when it shared it's title with a book that is no longer considered canon. It would have been a title familiar to longtime fans, especially those who still believe in the acts portrayed in what has since become known as the Star Wars Legends series. Creative Executive for the Lucasfilm Story Group Pablo Hidalgo had this exchange with Jedi News editor Justin Lasalata.
"For the longest time, the Tfa title was the same as an old novel. Thankfully it changed. :) With so many books, it's inevitable. It was Shadow (singular) of the Empire for a while.

Hong Kong-based sales company Asian Shadows has picked up world rights (outside Greater China) to Tibetan director Pema Tseden’s Tharlo, which will receive its world premiere in Venice’s Orizzonti section.
Adapted from Pema Tseden’s novel, the film follows a 40-year-old Tibetan shepherd, who can recite Chairman Mao’s Little Red Book from memory, but whose quiet life changes when he is asked to go to the city to have his photo taken for his first ID card.
The film, which premieres in Venice on September 4, has also been selected for Busan’s Window on Asian Cinema section. It was produced by Beijing-based Heaven Pictures, which also produced Berlinale title River Road and Kaili Blues, which premiered in Locarno.
“Tharlo is typical of Tibetans of the present generation,” said Pema Tseden. “This is a story that shows them in a state of confusion, disorientation and desensitization. The film is in black-and-white as the ruggedness in the...

On the first page of Action Comics #43, Superman- the Big Blue Boy Scout, the Man of Tomorrow, punches a police officer. Luckily, it’s a Shadow monster (an alien race that is Superman’s enemy) masquerading as Sergeant Binghamton, but this punch doesn’t solve problems with the police still suspicious about Superman’s motives and the inhabitants of his neighborbood after they defended him with physical force And to add insult upon injury, Superman still doesn’t have powers and has no secret identity after being outed as Clark Kent as part of the “Truth” arc over in the Superman title. There are plenty of interesting directions a return to the Babylon 5 universe could take. Here are a few suggestions...
I read somewhere that J.M. Straczynski writes every day. That’s not surprising given his extensive body of work for television, motion pictures, novels and comics. He is best known for Babylon 5, of course. I remember what a lot of people used to say about Babylon 5, “How much can happen on a space station?” Well, a lot actually! And after five seasons of the original series, a bunch of made-for-tv movies and a couple of spin-offs, there are still plenty of stories left to tell.
That is why I was excited recently to read that Joe (apparently, he thinks you’re cool if you just call him Joe) was going back to work on Babylon 5. My excitement soon turned to dread when I found out that...

Microsoft has bolstered its line-up of self-published indie games under ID@Xbox, with the likes of Shovel Knight, Wasteland 2 and Magic Duels: Origins all confirmed for Xbox One as part of the program.
Yacht Club Games’ beloved side-scrolling platformer has already launched across Wii U, PC and 3Ds, where it was met with rave reviews. In fact, just yesterday we learned of the studio’s plans to launch a free expansion pack for Shovel Knight entitled Plague of Shadows.
As for Wasteland 2 and Magic Duels: Origins, the former proved to be a Kickstarter favorite back in 2012, while the latter is a free-to-play card battler in the vein of Blizzard’s Hearthstone.
Microsoft didn’t specify exactly when Xbox One owners can expect these indies to be ported over, but now that the publisher has shipped over 1,000 ID@Xbox dev kits to studios around the globe, yesterday’s announcement is evidence...

The Lord Of The Rings series has had it better than most when it comes to videogame adaptations. J.R.R. Tolkein's beloved fantasy epic is not only a great story, and a stalwart of the genre, but it's also perfect material for gaming. Warner Bros. and Monolith have unveiled an all-new cinematic trailer for their upcoming third-person RPG, Middle-earth: Shadows of Mordor, which provides us with a precious insight into the dark and brooding tale of one ranger of Gondor.
For the game, players will step into the ethereal shoes of Talion, a foreboding ranger-turned-Gravewalker who seeks vengeance against Sauron for slaying his family. Channeling Wraith-like abilities, our spectral protagonist thereby ventures toward Mordor — which, thankfully, isn’t a scorched wasteland at this point in the Lotr canon — and will even encounter Gollum on his journey.
In the build-up to release, Warner Bros. has also trumpeted the game’s intriguing Nemesis System, an engine that will render Middle Earth like never before. In essence, the mechanic will add a sense of permanence to the world of Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor by tweaking the reactions of Urks and other in-game races depending on how the character interacts with them.

Microsoft's debut games console, the Xbox, made a big impact on gaming, but not all of its games got the attention they deserved...

The new generation console war may turning towads a two horse race, with Nintendo playing catch up, but wind back a few years, and Microsoft, Sony and Nintendo were all hard at it, competing for your money and loyalty. The PlayStation 2 would go on to win the war of its generation, but Microsoft's Xbox was a tough competitor, giving the company a secure foothold, which it would later take advantage of in the next generation with the Xbox 360's dominance.
The original Xbox had a host of great games, many of which have gone on to become successful franchises, with no better example than Halo, but not all of its good games gained the attention they deserved, even if sequels managed to appear in later years.

Mark the date, folks, for it looks as though Monolith’s anticipated RPG, Middle-earth: Shadows of Modor, will go up against Alien: Isolation for gaming supremacy. Speaking with Game Informer, the company confirmed that the Tolkien-inspired adventure will indeed launch across Xbox One, Xbox 360, PS4, PS3 and PC on October 7th.
Not only that, Warner Bros. also outlined a plethora pre-order bonuses for the title, which include a ‘Test of Power’ challenge mode, access to online leaderboards and a Dark Ranger character skin to boot. What’s more, the latter add-on will allow players to opt for a more sinister make-up for Talion, the game’s protagonist.
Following the brutal murder of his family, our hero must channel his Wraith-like abilities to pursue the perpetrator and, ultimately, his own revenge. From the footage released, it seems as though Middle-earth: Shadows of Modor has learned from its gaming contemporaries, too. By...

Guys, Persona 5 is real. Until recently, though, it wasn’t officially confirmed for Us and Canadian gamers. Thankfully, Atlus has righted this terrifying wrong in a recent press release, confirming not just Persona 5, but Persona Q: Shadow of the Labyrinth, Persona 4 Arena Ultimax, and Persona 4: Dancing All Night.
All four games are available on different consoles, with Persona Q coming to 3Ds, Arena Ultimax hitting Xbox 360 and PS3, Dancing All Night coming exclusively to Vita, and Persona 5 coming, of course, exclusively to PS3. The first two are slated for a Fall 2014 release, while the last two are listed as “2015.”
Atlus included a bevvy of shiny new screenshots, some of which we’ve attached below, as well as trailers for all four games. I personally find the Persona 5 teaser above to be the most tantalizingly awesome of the bunch, but if you’re easily freaked out you should probably just stick with Persona Q trailer.

Welcome to Episode 41 of Gaming Disassembled, where we talk Shadows of Mordor and why it might seem a bit familiar to Assassin's Creed fans, but not to worry, as we also cover whether publisher and Steam sales hurt games in the long run and a bit of Yoshi's Island and Castlevania Lords of Shadow 2. Also on the docket are Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy Xiii, as well as some Hearthstone, Pathfinder, and some Summoner Wars, so take a seat and let the fun begin.

It's been way too long since we last got dosed with the pitch-black sonic evil of extreme industrial metallers Psyclon Nine in the form of their 2009 studio album We the Fallen (check out our review here), and after a couple years of silence I feared they might drop off the map completely. They eventually resurfaced for some new live performances, including co-headlining shows with kindred evil spirits Dawn of Ashes, and frontman Nero Bellum contributed guest vocals to DoA's latest album Anathema. At last, Nero and company returned to the studio to tackle the ambitiously epic follow-up Order of the Shadow: Act I. According to an August interview with Nero in ReGen Magazine, this record is intended to be the band's final full-length release – and while that's very sad news to long-time fans like myself, the pure naked insanity bottled in these tracks makes for a suitably apocalyptic finale...

Shortly before Peter Benchley's book went to press, he still hadn't decided on a title. It was a thriller about a murderous great white shark, and three men's quest to kill it. He went through a long list of potential ideas before eventually settling on a single syllable that later entered into our mythology and culture: Jaws.
To celebrate the 40th anniversary of the book, Ballantine books has put out a special edition, featuring excerpts from Benchley's archives and his own book about the making of the bestseller and the subsequent Spielberg movie.
Courtesy of Ballantine, below you'll find the long list of alternative titles that Benchley considered, along with some of his handwritten notes from the time. While some are pretty chilling ("What Have We Done?"), we're not sure that a book and movie called Phosphorescence or Squam would have had quite the same impact.
What's your favorite alternative title to Jaws?...

The hardest part of suing a magician might be keeping the defendant from disappearing. When we first wrote nearly a year ago about the lawsuit brought by Raymond Teller (famous as the silent half of "Penn & Teller"), we might have assumed otherwise. Teller accuses Dutch entertainer Gerard Dogge of ripping off his copyrighted magic piece called Shadows, putting it on YouTube as an illusion entitled The Rose & Her Shadow, and offering to reveal the secrets for $3,050. The litigation promised to help determine the level of protection that magicians have over their tricks, and to prevail, Teller

With the propensity, if not the overt mission, for contemporary film festivals to project just about anything they can get their hands on digitally, I couldn't help view the beginning of David Gatten's new work at the New York Film Festival, The Extravagant Shadows, with a moment of bemused shock, if not suppressed, ironical horror. Playing in the Views from the Avant-Garde sidebar, the first image of Gatten's first work in digital video is of a closely cropped bookshelf. After a moment, a glass panel, perhaps the bookcase or cabinet door, is slid into the frame in front of the spines, and in its reflection we see both the filmmaker and his Dslr on its tripod. Gatten leaves the frame and we stare, face to lens, at the books impeded by a pane in which we see the image of the recording of its impediment. And then a brush...

Those who plan to purchase the PC version of Sleeping Dogs can look forward to two technological bonuses that the open world game will not offer to console players: a high-resolution texture pack, as well as support for multi-monitor set-ups. Those two things should combine to make the mouse and keyboard offering the best of the bunch – at least for powerful rigs that can support all of the extra detail that will come with those improved textures.
If you’re wondering whether your current gaming computer will be up to the task of running Sleeping Dogs‘ Hong Kong action then you’re in luck. Square Enix has released a detailed list of specifications that one’s rig will have to meet in order to be able to do so.

Above is the first image of what could well be Konami’s upcoming but as yet unannounced sequel to 2010′s Lords of Shadow, which has just made its way onto the interwebs.
The image first appeared on Konami’s Facebook page with a link to a site called The Dragon Returns, with May 31st promised as a reveal date.
Castlevania: Lords of Shadows was a bold new step for the franchise, shifting focus to 3D environments and what many would call a blend of God of War and Devil May Cry combat.
A solid if not sizzling game, it attained good if not great critical reception and sold well. It was also incredibly beefy – in fact some criticised the game being too long.
No spoilers here, but let’s just say it was the ending of Lords of Shadow that truly got people excited for the potential direction the franchise could take,...

Even though Sony has been struggling to get their Uncharted movie adaptation off the ground, that doesn't mean they've given up on the video game business. Reports have come out now that they've hired Josh Trank to direct a big screen version of Shadow of the Colossus.
Ever since Chronicle became an unexpected success, director Josh Trank has been something of a hot commodity. He was rumored to be attached to helm a Fantastic Four reboot for Fox (which has now been confirmed that he Is on the project, but capacity unknown), then it was announced that Sony was wanting him to direct their Venom spin-off movie. He's also been attached to WB's comic adaptation Red Star...in all he's very busy.
Still, he's taking on more projects and Sony has brought him on to direct a big screen adaptation of the PS2 hit, Shadow of the Colossus. Deadline got the scoop on this one,...

Three new nationwide releases attempt to dethrone box office sensation The Avengers this weekend, though it's unlikely any of them come very close. Battleship has the best shot at 3,690 locations, but the rampant cynicism surrounding the project should keep the movie from reaching blockbuster levels. Meanwhile, What to Expect When You're Expecting tries to reach female audiences at 3,021 theaters, while The Dictator will attempt to build on its decent $4.18 million Wednesday opening at 3,008 venues. Battleship is the third Hasbro product to get the big-budget, big-screen treatment in the past five years following Transformers and G.I. Joe: Rise of Cobra. All three Transformers movies made over $300 million at the domestic box office, while G.I. Joe earned a respectable $150.2 million. Those movies were logical extensions of character-driven action figure brands, though, and they had already been proven from a story-telling perspective with comic books and animated TV series. Battleship, on the other hand,...
