The best award shows have their dubious moments, and the 40th annual Daytime Emmy Awards — which Snicks lovingly liveblogged last night– simply teemed with unexpected and bizarre moments that brought the best (and weirdest) out of many presenters. I also enjoyed planned hilarity like Kathy Griffin‘s presenter speech, in which she quoted four lines of nutty dialogue from nominated soap operas and Betty White‘s tribute to the late game show producer Bob Stewart. But here are five wacky moments I’m still thinking about.
1. Carrie Fisher’s wild introduction to the Best Animated Show category is inspiring, drug-fueled, and maybe poetic.
Carrie Fisher, the goddess who once composed my favorite tweet of all time (and I quote: “Oh BiPolar the way I’m on Letterman tonight w/ my peers Rihanna & Zac Efron pray 4 me”), introduced the Best Animated Show category. Struck me as apparent that she was...

Beverly Hills, Calif. — "Days of Our Lives" won drama series honors for just the second time in 40 years at the Daytime Emmys in a rough-hewn ceremony that included more upsets and an envelope mix-up on Sunday night.
The NBC soap opera that began in 1965 beat out defending champion "General Hospital" and former three-time winner "The Bold and the Beautiful," among others.
The category included the only four remaining soaps still airing on the broadcast networks in addition to "One Life to Live," which has found new life on the Internet after being canceled.
"Days" only other drama series win was in 1978.
The show claimed one other trophy: Chandler Massey as outstanding younger actor.
Doug Davidson of "The Young and the Restless" and Heather Tom of "The Bold and the Beautiful" won lead acting honors.
Davidson earned his first career trophy for a role he's played since 1978. Tom, who previously was on "Y&R,...

Big bucks, expensive vowels, and a million cackling Whammies.
The Daytime Emmys are this Sunday, and for the first time ever, there’s a gay nominee for Best Game Show Host — the marvelous and frightfully funny Billy Eichner. Wahoo! To celebrate, let’s rank the 25 best game shows of all time. Get out your purse and prepare to buy some vowels, gents.
25. Where in the World is Carmen Sandiego?: Sorry Double Dare, but Carmen Sandiego is the greatest kids’ game ever. It made geography cool while highlighting the glamorous felonies of a femme fatale. I wish more TV shows concluded with the entire cast yelling in unison, “Do it, Rockapella!”
24. Let’s Make a Deal: Carol Merrill and Monty Hall could woo you into anything. Though if you’re already wearing a chicken outfit, you probably don’t need much coercing.

I got the memo about Alex Trebek potentially leaving Jeopardy! in 2016, and that sent my mind into a frenzy (accompanied by the ping-pang-pow sound effect of a Daily Double). Alex Trebek's name is synonymous with Jeopardy! for a reason: He is an astoundingly great host who knows so much trivia and loves the learning process. You might think his knack for accents and correcting contestants is pretentious or annoying, but that discipline is so essential to the dignity and respect of the show's difficult material. Hell, this man hosts the National Geography Bee every year. He is a TV legend and it pains me to think of him departing the series.
But the task becomes a little bit easier when I think of some of the qualified people who could replace him. A few names have been thrown about loudly -- particularly Matt Lauer's and Anderson Cooper's...

All3Media, Britain’s largest independent TV production group, is launching All3Media America, an U.S. production hub based in Los Angeles to be run Eli Holzman as president and Stephen Lambert as chairman. All3 Media has had presence in the U.S. via Studio Lambert USA, the Los Angeles-based offshoot of Stephen Lambert’s UK company Studio Lambert, which All3Media had backed, and All3Media’s Lion TV (Cash Cab) and Optomen (Hotel Hell, Kitchen Nightmares). But the company, which has scripted and non-scripted production companies in the UK, Germany and New Zealand, had been looking to set up a centralized U.S. outpost. Instead of building infrastructure from the ground-up, the company opted to use that of Studio Lambert USA, producer of such series as CBS’ Emmy-winning Undercover Boss, AMC’s The Pitch and Lifetime’s upcoming Supermarket Superstars. As part of its original deal with...

Though it might sounds like a blue collar sequel to the trivia show "Cash Cab," the film Cash Truck from producer Joel Silver (The Matrix, Lethal Weapon) is actually just a remake of the French heist thriller Le Convoyeur. Released in 2004, the film follows a father and son who end up driving behind an armored truck when it gets held up by masked gunmen. In the craziness of the job, the child ends up being killed, and the father decides to track down the thieves to deliver his own justice. But it's more than just killing them, as he suspects an inside job and begins working at the armored truck company just to find his son's killers. That last bit of information is what makes this a little bit better than any other revenge thriller, but it doesn't sound all that thrilling. Of course, we haven't seen the original film,...

What if you were already 30 minutes late to a meeting, but you hailed a cab that got you there an hour early?
Wishful thinking? Not when your taxi has gull-wing doors and a Flux Capacitor, as New York fashion design company Nooka (via Mike Lubrano Advertising) has done in a new ad campaign featuring a yellow "Back to the Future"-style DeLorean cab.
Now settle down, New Yorkers. We're pretty sure you can't flag this one down yet, as it's apparent from the pics that this is just a Photoshop mock-up, at least for now. If it does hit the streets for real, we have a feeling Ben Bailey's "Cash Cab" will be quickly usurped for Doc Brown's flaming tread as the most fantasized mid-town ride. One question, though: does it charge by the mile, minute, day or decade?
Needless to say, when this baby hits 88-miles-per-hour, you're gonna see some serious s**t.

Lots of male-pattern casting to get to today. Let's take a gander: Nate Parker (Arbitrage) has boarded director Jaume Collet-Serra's airplane thriller Non-Stop, starring Liam Neeson. I can’t say I was sorry to see Saturday Night Live air its last primetime special of the year yesterday. After all, this means 30 Rock is finally coming back. Plus, Saturday shows that air the same week as a Thursday special never feel like SNL at the top of its game, even when hosted by talented personalities who don’t mind stripping onstage.

'Saturday Night Live' totally slams the Republican Presidential Candidate in a hilarious sketch from the Sept. 20 episode of 'Weekend Update Thursday' -- did You think they went too far? Saturday Night Live is at it again with more mockery from the ongoing presidential election. This time, the comedians took on Mitt Romney for his controversial remarks from a secret video taken during a private dinner. The cast of SNL, acting as the cast of Fox & Friends, pretends they are releasing even more video footage from the dinner where "Mitt Romney" is spotted dehumanizing minorities. This video is from a series of four special 30 minute episodes called Weekend Update Thursday, that will air leading up to the election. The video continues with "Mitt" eating at a McDonalds -- further ridiculing minorities. Finally, "Mitt" and his wife "Ann Romney" find themselves on the hit show Cash Cab -- bashing minorities yet again.

It's an election year, which means "Saturday Night Live" gets an extra half hour every week during "SNL Weekend Update Thursday" to skewer all the ridiculous news that comes up on the campaign trail. The first 2012 edition featured a skit about the leaked Mitt Romney video that made fun of "Fox & Friends" as much as the Republican nominee, along with some feisty Update jokes.
Jay Pharaoh didn't get to take his second stab as official "SNL" Obama impersonator, because naturally the late-night sketch comedy show had to take on the Romney gaffe. !!!Spoiler Alert…Spoiler Alert…Spoiler Alert!!! Update: NBC has posted a clip of the spoof, which we’ve added below. Scroll down to view. You won’t be surprised that Saturday Night Live‘s primetime special SNL Weekend Update Thursday opened with its funniest, and most timely, routine — a send-up of the secret video of Gop presidential candidate Mitt Romney. The show took it on via a parody of Fox News‘ Fox & Friends. (It featured Tarran Killan as Steve Doocy, Vanessa Bayer as Gretchen Carlson, and Bobby Moynihan as Brian Kilmeade.) Their version of the video showed Romney, played by Jason Sudeikis, saying he won’t win the votes of 47% of the country who don’t pay taxes. But he adds “I don’t mean senior citizens. And I don’t mean members of our armed services. And I don’t mean Southern whites…When I say ‘these people,’ I mean black people.

During a Fox & Friends sketch on SNL Weekend Update Thursday, Vanessa Bayer ended the segment saying the show’s fact checkers have “one or two corrections from the first two hours of the show,” before a scrolling list appeared. If you didn’t quite catch them all or were too lazy to rewind your DVR, you’re in luck. Check out the full list of “corrections” below.

Of course, it's called the show fake before, beginning its exposé of the popular series with a 2010 post that delved into the producers' own self-admitted revelation that, "for quicker turnaround," they "sometimes" choose buyers who are already in escrow on their chosen property, rather than buyers who are actually hunting for houses, as one might expect from a ...

We rarely associate hotness with game show hosting, but why is that? It takes bravado, rigidity, and charisma to run a good game show, and I'd say the same rubric applies to male strippers and So You Think You Can Dance contestants. In honor of the late Richard Dawson, the original host of Family Feud and an unforgettable Match Game panelist, I'll be tallying the hottest men of televised gaming. Please remember to phrase your cat-calls in the form of question.
10. Jeff Probst, Rock & Roll Jeopardy
Though he only hosted VH1's Jeopardy! spinoff from 1998 to 2001, Jeff Probst's dimpled cuteness and conversational hosting style were enough to substantiate him as a great emcee. Naturally he's better remembered for hosting Survivor for all of its 5,700 cycles, but he looked mighty fine standing behind Trebek's podium.
9. Richard Dawson, Family Feud
Richard Dawson was most known for smooching contestants and calling out "Survey says!

Comedian Billy Eichner's pedestrian-attacking presence on the Fuse's Billy on the Street is not just funny, it's constantly jarring -- and extraordinary and life-affirming that way.
The gonzo game show combines Eichner's abrupt comic timing, love of pop culture, and tiny cash prizes. It capitalizes on his signature stage delirium, the style that the The New York Times once called "a theatrical phenomenon" in reviewing his 2005 fake late night talk show Creation Nation. Since then, his "Man on the Street" Q&As joined Funny Or Die's clip roster, and that recognition earned him his Fuse show. Since he's still shooting the show's new season, we thought we'd catch up with the delirious comic and discuss his friend Joan Rivers, his new enemy Spike Lee, and what it feels like to bombard Super Bowl-winning football players with questions about Madonna. Follow him on Twitter at @billyeichner and watch Billy on...

ABC’s General Hospital leads the way with 23 nominations for Daytime Emmy Awards.
The television academy announced Wednesday that the venerable soap opera will compete with NBC’s Days of Our Lives, CBS’ The Young and the Restless and the canceled All My Children of ABC for best daytime drama. NBC’s The Bold and the Beautiful has won the trophy three years in a row but wasn’t nominated this year.
Other repeat winners are possible, though: Ben Bailey of Cash Cab was nominated for best game show host and Dr. Mehmet Oz as best talk show host.

"Cash Cab" has picked up its last passenger ... and it just so happened to be Rachael Ray. Yes, the popular Discovery Channel game show is over, host Ben Bailey confirmed the news on "Rachael Ray" (weekdays on ABC).
"Sadly it's true, 'Cash Cab' is parked for good," Bailey told Ray. Bailey, who is still doing stand-up and booking movie roles, said he is in possession of the famous yellow cab.
Ray and husband John Cusimano were the last contestants to ever be greeted by those promising flashing ceiling lights. The duo aced every trivia question Bailey threw at them and won $1,300 for Ray's Yum-o! charity.
Ray's ride coincided with her week-long tribute to game shows and she seemed particularly proud of her "Cash Cab" skills.
"Just so you know, we didn't edit anything out," Ray said of her "Cash Cab" triumph.

Vulture reports that Discovery Channel has cancelled Cash Cab after seven years on the air. A representative for the cable channel confirmed the cancellation.
Hosted by Ben Bailey, the TV series brought an unusual take to the game show genre. Everyday people would hop into a cab and were told that they were on a game show. They would then have a chance to win cash prizes by answering trivia questions while being delivered to their destination.
While Discovery never made a big deal about Cash Cab's ratings, audiences and TV insiders clearly liked the original concept. It won the Daytime Emmy for Best Game Show for three years straight, from 2008 until 2010. Bailey won as Best Host in 2010.

After six seasons of rewarding pedestrians for their trivia knowledge while ferrying them to their (supposedly spontaneously chosen) destinations, Cash Cab has picked up its last (occasionally random, sometimes meticulously pre-screened) fare. Discovery Channel has confirmed a report first floated at Vulture that the incredibly popular, Emmy-winning game show hosted by Ben Bailey has ceased production after more than 200 episodes, though reruns are expected to continue on the network through September and in syndication for long thereafter. It’s also possible that another channel could be interested in picking up the format, which is, after all, fairly inexpensive and ...

The ride's over for Discovery Network's Cash Cab. Vulture has learned exclusively that, after nearly seven years and more than 200 episodes, the cable network has decided to halt production on the Emmy–winning game show. A Discovery PR rep confirmed the demise. Hosted by Ben Bailey, Cab tweaked the conventional quizzer format by recruiting its contestants from the ranks of unsuspecting taxi passengers. Folks hopped in expecting a cab ride but were then told they were on a TV game show and had a chance to win money by answering questions as they drove toward their destination.Because it usually aired outside of prime time, Discovery never made a big deal out of the show's Nielsen ratings, but TV insiders clearly loved it. Cash Cab beat out veterans such as Jeopardy! and The Price is Right to win the Daytime Emmy for Best Game Show in 2008, 2009, and 2010; Bailey...

Discovery’s Emmy winning hit Cash Cab is now airing 5 days a week!
The funniest game show on TV, Cash Cab combines elements of Who Wants To Be A Millionaire, Family Feud and Candid Camera as taxi driver/comedian Ben Bailey picks up unsuspecting people hailing a cab and gives them a chance to win thousands.

Billy Eichner Interviews Triumphant Giants Players About What Really Matters: How Awesome Madonna Is
Billy Eichner is certainly not for everyone. Whereas shows like Cash Cab pretend to give random people on the street the chance to win money (I'm sorry, did I just disillusion you?), Eichner's style is to actually just run up to people and start screaming at them like a crazy person. On his Fuse game show, Billy on the Street, you can see him harassing poor pedestrians with questions like "True or false, Zac Efron looks like he wants to be molested by an older person?" Clearly, this is the kind of thing that viewers will either hate or find laugh out loud hilarious. For those of you lucky enough to fall in the latter category, Eichner's appearance last night on Conan is an almost too perfect heightening of this idea.
