Wushu (2008)

Trivia

Wushu

Edit
During the period that they were shooting Sammo Kam-Bo Hung's fight scene a hoax Internet report went out that he had died suddenly. The following day, 9 December 2007 (which happened to be the director's birthday), Sammo's two mobile phones kept ringing constantly as he answered calls from friends, family and the press, confirming that he's alive and well.
During its scripting stage 'Wushu' was selected by the 2006 Taipei TV & Film Festival (23-25 Nov 2006) for presenting to financiers and co-production.
In March 2007 the 'Wushu' feature film proposal was officially endorsed by Mr. Zhang Haifeng, Director General of the State General Administration of Sport - China's top governing body of all competitive sports and national competitors in the country.
Yongchen Liu, the actor who played Xiao Zhang, was sent to hospital twice during the shoot - once when he took a badly timed punch to his temple region from actress Junjie Mao, and a second time when he took a strong kick to his head by actor Xichao Wang during the shooting of their kick boxing tournament scene.
While shooting the kick boxing match between actor Yongchen Liu (playing Xiao Zhang) and Xichao Wang (playing Li Er), Liu was hit unconscious and sent to hospital. Because of that a stuntman was used to double Liu for when Xiao Zhang gets kicked the final time by Li Er out of the boxing ring. The first stuntman ripped a muscle in his left shoulder when testing the fall. A second stuntman dislocated his left shoulder while filming the first shot. Both were sent to hospital. Finally, pressured by the hospitalization of three people in a day, the director Szeto did the stunt himself. He did the stunt several times before getting the shot he needed.
