Exclusive: Showtime has rounded out the cast for its upcoming anthology series The First Lady. Aya Cash (The Boys), Jake Picking (Hollywood), Cayden Boyd (The Resident), Marc Hills (Snatchers), Ben Cook (Paterno), Leslie Rodriguez Kritzer (Bridge and Tunnel), Thomas E. Sullivan and Patrice Johnson Chevannes (Chambers) have been cast in the series, joining previously announced stars Viola Davis, Michelle Pfeiffer and Gillian Anderson.

The First Lady, created by Aaron Cooley and produced by Lionsgate TV and Showtime, is a revelatory reframing of American leadership, told through the lens of the women at the heart of the White House. Season 1 focuses on Eleanor Roosevelt (Anderson), Betty Ford (Pfeiffer) and Michelle Obama (Davis).

It remains unclear what Marvel Studios plans to do with The Punisher once they get the rights back. But Thomas Jane, who played the character in the 2004 movie, has just put forth an interesting idea. Jane has said that he would like to direct Jon Bernthal, who starred in the Netflix series, in a project centered on Frank Castle.

Thomas Jane has been acting in Hollywood for more than three decades but he has experience as a director as well. He directed 2009's Dark Country, for example. More recently, he directed an episode of The Expanse. While discussing that in a recent interview, he was asked about the possibility of returning to the role of Frank Castle. Here's what Jane had to say.

Jon Bernthal has stated on a number of occasions that he holds Frank Castle very close to his heart, and he’s still not given up on the idea of returning as the Punisher somewhere down the line. He’s not the only actor to have fallen in love with the comic book vigilante after being cast in the role, though, and fans also remember Thomas Jane’s spin on the character fondly.

Admittedly, the 2004 movie wasn’t great, but Jane was committed to the part and did a solid job in the lead. Unfortunately, however, the plot and script were about as formulaic as it gets, while moving the action from the seedy underbelly of New York City to the more tropical climate of Tampa for budgetary reasons was hardly reflective of the Punisher’s origins.

The 18th Annual Whitaker St. Louis Filmmakers Showcase, a presentation of the nonprofit Cinema St. Louis, serves as the area’s primary venue for films made by local artists. The Showcase screens works that were written, directed, edited, or produced by St. Louis residents or films with strong local ties.

The 20 film programs that screen at Washington University’s Brown Hall from July 13-15 & 20-22 serve as the Showcase’s centerpiece. The programs range from full-length fiction features and documentaries to multi-film compilations of fiction and documentary shorts. Many programs include post-screening Q&As with filmmakers. There are 106 films in this year’s event.

Last week, producer Adi Shankar released the latest installment from his Bootleg Universe, a new short film entitled Power/Rangers. Just a few days later, it was pulled from Vimeo and YouTube after a copyright dispute with Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers creator Haim Saban and his Saban Brands company. But the short film came back online over the weekend. Actor Thomas Jane has been making the publicity rounds lately to promote his new film Vice, which opened last weekend. For many fans, he will always be best known as Frank Castle in the 2004 comic book adaptation The Punisher and the 2012 short film The Punsher: Dirty Laundry. You may recall that, back in May 2013, Marvel reacquired the rights to The Punisher, although the studio has yet to announce any movie or TV plans for this iconic character yet. In 2012, Adi Shankar served as the executive producer for Dredd, a stylish adaptation of the long-running comic series of the same name. Despite positive reviews, Dredd struggled at the box office, therefore dashing hopes for any potential sequels. There has been vocal fan demand for a sequel to 2012's 2000 Ad adaptation Dredd, which flopped in Us cinemas but has been a surprise home release hit.

Superfiend is part of Shankar's 'Bootleg Universe', which also includes the Venom short Truth in Journalism and Punisher short Dirty Laundry.

Tonight sees the UK premiere of the 2000 Ad documentary Future Shock! at the BFI.

We’ve been teasing the animated Judge Dredd miniseries Judge Dredd: Superfiend for a few weeks now, and it’s finally online for all to see. Written and directed by The Junquera Brothers, the miniseries contains elements of the Dark Judges story arc, and it’s done in the tradition of Saturday morning cartoons. It was also produced by Adi Shankar, who produced the 2012 film Dredd starring Karl Urban, so there’s a bit of connective tissue to that take as well. The miniseries is an unofficial production in the vein of Shankar’s other independent ventures, the Punisher short Dirty Laundry and the Venom short Truth in Journalism. Well, here it is... It's not the sequel you were hoping for, or even a live action short like the unofficial Punisher fan film "Dirty Laundry" starring Thomas Jane. Instead, this is an animated mini-series regarding a Judge Dredd stand-in, it's titled "Superfiend," and it's all here for you to watch. Running six episodes long, producer Adi Shankar describes the style as '90s MTV mixed with a Saturday morning children's cartoon, and the crude and inviting aesthetic seems about right. And there's a couple more things he stresses: most importantly, this is not part of the officially sanctioned "Dredd" franchise, and thus the story revolves around "Judge Death," not Judge Dredd. So there are the caveats you need to know. So with that in mind, watch all six episodes below, kicking off with an introduction by Shankar himself.

The full trailer for producer Adi Shankar's animated miniseries Judge Dredd: Superfiend has been released, and I'm completely sold. This thing looks strange, dark, funny, a little messed up, and completely insane… I love it. The trailer comes from Collider, who also got a statement from Shankar on how this miniseries fits in with the previously made "bootleg" short films that he's produced. Those films include "Dirty Laundry," which is based on The Punisher, and "Truth in Journalism," which is based on Venom. While we await any official word on a sequel or prequel to Dredd 3D, producer Adi Shankar has rewarded fans for their loyalty with a new spin-off mini-series entitled Judge Dredd: Superfiend, with the first teaser trailer debuting today. The full trailer will debut Thursday, October 23, with the series itself debuting Monday, October 27 on Machinima.

Judge Dredd: Superfiend is inspired by the "Dark Judges" story line from the original 2000 Ad comic books. The Dark Judges include Judge Death, Judge Fire, Judge Fear and Judge Mortis, who frequently clashed with Dredd and Cassandra Anderson in the comic book. Yesterday we got our first look at a poster and some images from an upcoming animated mini web-series called Judge Dredd: Superfiend. Now today we bring you the teaser trailer! The animation is crude, but I like it, and it still looks like this could be a really fun and insane series.

The web series comes from Dredd producer Adi Shankar, and as we said in our report yesterday, it was inspired by the “Dark Judges” comic book story arc. It's intended as to be kind of a sequel to the movie Dredd, but it's also a part of Shankar’s "Bootleg Universe" series that consists of "Dirty Laundry" and "Truth in Journalism," which are two short films that riff on the Punisher and Venom comic book characters.

The full trailer will be released on October 23rd, and the actual series will be released a couple days later on the 27th.

We may not see a sequel to Pete Travis' Dredd anytime soon, but there's a cool looking animated miniseries that is being released that should tide us over! This seems like somthing that will be really fun to watch, and I'm looking forward to seeing some actual footage.

The seven-part mini-series will center on the Dark Judges from the original 2000Ad comic books, characters which Dredd 3D writer Alex Garland previously revealed would be the focus of a movie sequel, if it were to ever happen. The Dark Judges include Judge Death, Judge Fire, Judge Fear and Judge Mortis, who frequently clashed with Dredd and Cassandra Anderson in the comic book.

The mini-series won't be officially connected to the movie, but it is a part of Adi Shankar's Bootleg Universe, which includes the short films The Punsher: Dirty Laundry starring Thomas Jane and Ron Perlman, and Venom: Truth in Journalism, which featured Ryan Kwanten as Spider-Man's nemesis Eddie Brock/Venom.

I loved Dredd so much when it came out two years ago that I was fairly disheartened when it failed to connect with a massive audience. I rarely approach celebrities in random situations, but the one recent exception was to tell Karl Urban how much I loved that movie. So it's good to hear that we'll be getting a version of Dredd fairly soon, although it's not the cinematic sequel that some of us have been clamoring for. Instead, we're getting a seven part miniseries from producer Adi Shankar that will be released next month for free. There's no word on if Karl Urban or Olivia Thirlby will be participating (though Thomas Jane came back for Dirty Laundry so I suppose it's a possibility) but I guess we'll all find out soon enough.
